Good morning friends!
Today, we recap some more diamond leagues, chatting through some middle-distance events, and even branch out and look at some men’s races and pole vaulting!
We also reviewed some of the hills you’d be willing to die on… you'll have to weigh in and let us know what you think of no dogs at park runs, listening to music while running with others, and hiding Strava runs.
Finally, we check in to find out how Anna’s postpartum running rehab is going and chat through the highs and lows.

ZOOM0054_Tr3Welcome to Cheeky Run Club, the Welcome to Cheeky Run Club, the social running podcast and community for your everyday amateur runner.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Hello, Phoebe. Hello, Anna.
ZOOM0054_Tr3And hello listeners
ZOOM0054_Tr4Today, we are going to debrief Stockholm and Oslo Diamond Leagues. We're going to review some, actually a lot of petty running hills that our listeners would die on, which I'm very excited for because some of them are very controversial, as in some I really don't agree with, and some I strongly do agree with. Hopefully not much resting on hills today. And then we're going to finish off by bringing back Anna's rehab diaries, which I think it's been a few weeks between updates, and you've got some very exciting updates.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Very exciting, but you'll have to wait. Have
ZOOM0054_Tr4have to wait. Have to wait. Have to wait. And most excitingly, this is our first in-person recording- yeah, with Flossie.
ZOOM0054_Tr3yeah. What was it
ZOOM0054_Tr4Floss. Well, yeah. Well, so since- The extended
ZOOM0054_Tr3Cheeky crew.
ZOOM0054_Tr4last time we recorded in person she was with us, but in your belly. Mm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Wild.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Nice to have you here in person.
ZOOM0054_Tr4know. It is so to be back in Melbourne. But first, as always, we'll kick it off with our notable runs of the week. Anna, let's start off with your best.
ZOOM0054_Tr3my best run of the week was this morning. I did a little session. Yay. My first one. She's back. I- She
ZOOM0054_Tr4have a stress fracture. I don't have a stress fracture.
ZOOM0054_Tr3I don't have a stress fracture. Nice to, know that.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Uh- Sometimes injury anxiety is really just- Anxiety just
ZOOM0054_Tr3Which is crazy, 'cause I actually said to you earlier this morning, it's weird how psychosom- Yeah
ZOOM0054_Tr4like- Yeah you
ZOOM0054_Tr3how you think about, like, psychosomatic things, and then you're like, "That wouldn't happen to me." But- But then-
videoall
ZOOM0054_Tr3a sudden I'm like, "No, my foot is completely fine." Yeah. I've gone from worrying about it literally every single minute of every day- Oh, oh to being- It's not
ZOOM0054_Tr4even in your
ZOOM0054_Tr3No, it's so
ZOOM0054_Tr4that is the, benefit of going and getting something properly checked out. Yeah. And then you can just, like, rest assured that you're like, "Okay."
ZOOM0054_Tr3I'm fine I'm fine." Um, stop worrying. Yeah. Chill, girl. Anyway, my best run was this morning. I did two minutes a little bit faster with a three-minute, very slow jog times four. So it was 20 minutes in total, with eight minutes of work. God, it feels good to just, like- Mm get going a little bit and like- Yeah turn the legs over. did it around the bridges loop in Melbourne, which is just, like, a 2K loop around the river, which I used to do quite a lot of sessions at. It's just f- I don't know, it's so surreal when you go back to, a location that you used to just like frequent all the time. Yeah. And do all this stuff just with, like, a whole new kinda like perspective and,
ZOOM0054_Tr4like- Yeah You looked so happy.
ZOOM0054_Tr3so good. Like, in comparison to, like, what I used to do, it's such a small session. It's like eight minutes of work. But like, I literally felt on top of the world.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah. I was gonna say, it just gives you, I know we speak about this all the time with sessions, but they just give you such a different buzz.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oh, yeah. It, and it's, yeah, there's something about really getting your heart rate up and like just ticking the legs over and, like, putting a bit of effort into it. yeah, it was so fun. So yes, that is my best running activity or running-related
ZOOM0054_Tr4run. Just best run. Just
ZOOM0054_Tr3bloody run. Um, what about you? What's yours?
ZOOM0054_Tr4My best run was Tuesday morning, because I've been in Melbourne all week for work/socializing. I got to come along to run with the Tuesday morning gang.
ZOOM0054_Tr3It was fun. GG. That was almost,
ZOOM0054_Tr4was also, that was perhaps one
ZOOM0054_Tr3almost my best run of the week.
ZOOM0054_Tr4yeah. No, good to, good for us to have different
ZOOM0054_Tr3it up, for sure.
ZOOM0054_Tr4And I still got to run with you this morning, so- Yeah you know, I'm still featuring there. so yeah, we, you and I basically just went for a little run, which we figured out it was the first time we've run together in over 100 days. Yeah. Hundred and-
videodays.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Our first run together in
ZOOM0054_Tr4Our first run together in 132 days. 132 days. Wild. And it was so nice. It just felt like every run we've ever been on together over the years, and we trotted along the river, and because it's Melbourne winter, it was pitch black and dark, but I didn't care.
ZOOM0054_Tr3But I didn't even
ZOOM0054_Tr4then, and then just, like, seeing everyone at coffee afterwards and hanging out there. Mm. I feel like I was able to forget for a moment that I... you know, sickness that's hanging over my he- I don't know. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. That,
ZOOM0054_Tr4was, like, enjoying and, yeah, exactly, enjoying being there.
ZOOM0054_Tr3s- as you said the other week, I feel like coffee at Cheeky post-run is, like, peak Melbourne.
ZOOM0054_Tr4It honestly is. It's just so nice. Um,
videoexperience.
ZOOM0054_Tr3so nice.
ZOOM0054_Tr4and yeah, we're just so happy to be back in Melbourne, back running in Melbourne. Yeah. Um, what was your worst running-related activity?
ZOOM0054_Tr3worst running away activity? Mine was actually on the weekend. Went to Daylesford, 'cause it was a long weekend, which is like an hour and a half out of Melbourne. It's so nice up there. Anyway, we, we were in a group of like 8 or 10 people, and we went for lunch on the Sunday at a pub. Mm. and f- couple of our friends have a puppy called Woody, and then we also had Ted up there. And we were like- Oh we'll just, we'll leave them together in the backyard. And 'cause they were like getting along really well and everything. and Dave and I kind of like, went around the backyard to make sure that it was like secure and stuff, 'cause Ted gets a little anxious so we didn't want him to like try and escape or- Yeah anything. And we're like completely fine. Went to the pub, and there was no reception at the pub. or like it was like very patchy. Mm. And then all of a sudden I like looked and I was like, I've got all these missed calls from this number. Anyway, I called her back. I called the,
ZOOM0054_Tr4Wait, did you have a hunch so as to what had happened
ZOOM0054_Tr3Why were you? Did you have a hunch? So it has to work out? No idea. I literally thought it was like a scam.
ZOOM0054_Tr4it was a scam. I
ZOOM0054_Tr3okay. I was like, "Why do I have all these like random calls?" Oh, no, sorry, I didn't call her back. She was calling i- Oh, okay I was, sorry, the number was calling again, and so I picked up. And there was this lady being like, "Hi, I have your dog,"
ZOOM0054_Tr4Oh, no.
ZOOM0054_Tr3like, "Oh my gosh." Um, anyway, so I asked her where she was and went and got him. Oh. So he had, there were bricks like next to the fence. He'd moved those like with his nose, and then kind of like d- dug like underneath the fence- Oh, no and run out, run across like the main road, and then like saw this, um, then this guy saw him and kind of tried to like lure him in, but he was like a bit scattered kind of thing. Yeah. And then they had a granddaughter who was like in her 30s And then sh- he saw her, and then was like a little bit more kind of
ZOOM0054_Tr4like- Yeah
ZOOM0054_Tr3oh, like, "I'll go with you." Oh. And then they just like kept him in the front yard with them. They were all just like sitting with him. Oh. And he was like terrified. I felt so bad. Oh, no. I got out of the car and s- just started, like as soon as I saw him and I
ZOOM0054_Tr4saw him- Aw I
ZOOM0054_Tr3just started crying and I was like, "Thank you so
ZOOM0054_Tr4was like, "Thank you so much." Oh, well, it's very nice
ZOOM0054_Tr3it was so nice of them. And 'cause he literally, and I think 'cause it was a long weekend, like all of the roads were pretty busy. I honestly don't know, yeah, we were just like so, so lucky that he didn't get hit by a car or anything. but holy hell. I, I know, we know that he's like pretty anxious, but I didn't think he would r- literally dig
ZOOM0054_Tr4I was gonna say to escape I'm, like, surp- I'm really surprised.
ZOOM0054_Tr3So where we, he ended up was back towards like our own accommodation. So I'm thinking that he must have been like trying to get back or something. But yeah, it was honestly terrifying. And there's just something, I don't know, 'cause I think obviously you can't talk to dogs and just be like, "I'm coming back." Yeah. Like, "It's fine." and I, I don't know. I... Like, in my head, 'cause I was like, "Surely you'll have a better time with the puppy, like, playing in the backyard." Yeah. But I, I honestly think, he just would prefer to just be in the car. Yeah. Like, he likes being in the car, 'cause I think he knows that-
ZOOM0054_Tr4like being in the car that's where he's going. Yeah. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr3to me just seems, like, absolutely bizarre. Anyway, what was your worst run or running related activity?
ZOOM0054_Tr4Okay, so my worst was on Sunday morning. Mm-hmm. I have still been really unwell this week. I'm on my way out of it now- Mm-hmm definitely. But I definitely for at least the first half of this week, I was still really sick. I woke up really early on Sunday morning, like so congested and, like, coughing, and, like, so sick. It was probably,
ZOOM0054_Tr3was probably like 6:00
ZOOM0054_Tr4AM still. It was dark. And but I was like, couldn't sleep 'cause I was just, like, so congested, and I was like, "I'll go downstairs and I'll, like, have a nice, like, hot shower, and I'll, like, clear everything out." Yeah. And, like, hopefully that'll make me feel better. So- With your newfound method- With my newfound
ZOOM0054_Tr3of decongestion.
ZOOM0054_Tr4congested. With my newfound methods, which have backfired so badly on me. Oh. So I was in the shower and I was like, step number one, use your, use the nasal wash. Mm-hmm. Like, rinse it all out. Mm-hmm. And so I'm standing there and I'm like, I do one nostril, and I, like, started really, like, gagging. Oh. Like, it was kind of going down my throat a little bit. Oh. I think 'cause normally I do it bending over a sink, and I was doing it standing up in the shower. Mm-hmm. And then I was like, "Oh, that's weird." And then I did the other nostril and sorry, this is too much information, but it must have, like, gone down my, onto my gag reflex. I vomited. In your stomach? I just, no, I just, well, vomited whatever was in my stomach- Oh which was just, like, stomach acid and water, I guess- Yeah 'cause it was just, like, from the night. But for, like, 10 minutes, I could not stop. I was getting the worst, like, convulsive, like just, like, retching. Jesus. And so I was just sitting in the shower at 6:00 AM, like, so sick and, like, vomiting up the- Oh my, like, water and my stomach. And I was just like, "This is such a low point." Were you
videoWere you also
ZOOM0054_Tr3you also crying, or is that just me? I think I
ZOOM0054_Tr4think I was just like yeah. I think I was just, like, so defeated. I then just, like, sat on the floor of the shower just being like, "Oh my God, this is such a low." Like, this is... Yeah. And then I felt so... I, like, took myself off actually for a really nice yoga class, which was lovely. But my stomach was just so unsettled all morning 'cause I think it was
ZOOM0054_Tr3was like- Yeah
ZOOM0054_Tr4it, like, re- I've never, like, had that before. It was just, like, such an intense reaction. yeah, which I didn't even know that was a thing. I didn't either. I know. But when I Googled it,
ZOOM0054_Tr3So what... Yeah, why do you reckon- It
ZOOM0054_Tr4thought, it said you need to be leaning over.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Ah, okay. I think it helps
ZOOM0054_Tr4it just, like, stay, like- Yeah falling out rather than going
ZOOM0054_Tr3Going down
ZOOM0054_Tr4Falling out. But I don't know. Ugh. I haven't used it again
ZOOM0054_Tr3your throat. I
ZOOM0054_Tr4I take back that recommendation.
ZOOM0054_Tr3I, I take back that recommendation. Well, if you're doing it, do it as the packet says.
ZOOM0054_Tr4let's get into our running recap that we
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah,
videoExactly.
ZOOM0054_Tr3exactly. Um, okay let's okay let's get into our running recap-
ZOOM0054_Tr4have.
videothat we have.
ZOOM0054_Tr3because we,
ZOOM0054_Tr4we did ask last week, we said, "Guys, let us know if you like hearing about Diamond Leagues, like hearing about the middle distance girls," and turns out you do.
ZOOM0054_Tr3God. Thank God.
ZOOM0054_Tr4God. Cause we would like to keep talking about it. And there's actually two, two Diamond Leagues, but not a heap of events, to catch up on today, one being Stockholm
ZOOM0054_Tr3being
ZOOM0054_Tr4and one being Oslo.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oslo.
ZOOM0054_Tr4So Stockholm... And we actually, maybe we're breaking tradition a bit 'cause we wanna talk about a few males.
ZOOM0054_Tr3breaking tradition a bit 'cause we wanna talk about a
ZOOM0054_Tr4well.
ZOOM0054_Tr3as well. Ooh. Wow. Um,, So Stockholm was on at the start of the week. I feel like we are being absolutely spoiled at the moment with the Diamond
ZOOM0054_Tr4I know
ZOOM0054_Tr3I know. There's just, they just seem to be on, like, every few days- I know which I'm absolutely loving. Yeah,
ZOOM0054_Tr4and even though the time zone sucks, they have these amazing live replay. Like, sorry, not live replays, but, like, the YouTube channel-
ZOOM0054_Tr3A live replay.
ZOOM0054_Tr4The YouTube channel, which is free, has, like, immediately uploads the links. Yeah, so- Really good quality coverage yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr3So the 800 meters women's was on that we wanted to speak a little bit about, um, that was on in Stockholm, and you'll guess-
ZOOM0054_Tr4Keeley. She-
ZOOM0054_Tr3Keeley. She-
ZOOM0054_Tr4if that was a rhetorical- No a question to the listeners, so I'm like
ZOOM0054_Tr3Being like, "What the hell?" she was running, and she actually ran a PB and a British record. Wait, Keeley
ZOOM0054_Tr4and a British record. Wait, Keeley ran off of f- wait. For 800. For 800 she ran a PB? Yeah. Oh my God, and she still didn't win? Sorry, I've ruined that. I've spoiled it. But she didn't win, and she ran a PB.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Correct. So she- Wow uh, ran a PB of 1:54:33, was the British record and number six all time in the 800 meters. Wow. Um-
ZOOM0054_Tr4Why did I think she already had the world record?
ZOOM0054_Tr3No. The world record- She's close uh, yeah, the world record is one of those ones, Oh semi with an asterisk- Oh, right against it 'cause it's, like, been there for a long time, and it's like... I don't know. It's, like, spoken that
ZOOM0054_Tr4There's question
ZOOM0054_Tr3Special a drug world record. Um. Drug world record. Anyway, but she, uh, was still out... She was out-kicked by Audrey Werro from Switzerland, who moved to number three all time with a time of 1:53:98, which is absolutely crazy. Wow. Um, I don't know if
ZOOM0054_Tr424.
videoshe? Who...
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah, literally, who is she? Who is this girl? So she is actually from Switzerland. she's 23 years old, so- Wow oh, sorry, 22 years old.
ZOOM0054_Tr4young as well, isn't she? Yeah,
ZOOM0054_Tr3Keeley is pretty... Keeley's young, but she's, she's,
ZOOM0054_Tr4been around. She's been around. I mean,
ZOOM0054_Tr3she came second in Tokyo in 2021. Yeah, yeah. So she's been around for a long time. but essentially she kind of was, like, came on the scene, like, was a really good under 20, runner, and then won silver at the 800 in the 2026 World Indoor Champs, so, like, earlier this year. Yeah. and then, came first at the, like, 2025 European under 23 champs. So good, but not, like-
ZOOM0054_Tr4yeah, yeah, not beating world champion. Yeah. Well, although apparently she is at
ZOOM0054_Tr3level. Yeah. And
ZOOM0054_Tr4And it was crazy because Keeley is usually so strong on that home straight.
ZOOM0054_Tr3so strong on that home straight. So strong. And this girl was stronger. And
ZOOM0054_Tr4girl was stronger.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah, and it was also crazy to watch because the person who came third I think ran 1:57 something, so they were... Like, Keeley's even three seconds in front of them. It literally just looked like they were just a class above. Were. It was absolutely bonkers.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Keeley disappointed?
ZOOM0054_Tr3No, she actually, so she came out and said afterwards, which, God, love her. she was just saying, like she was obviously... She was happy, 'cause she ran a PB. Yeah. She's never run that fast before. She was happy with her run, like obviously would've liked to win, but then she just said like, "Hats off to Audrey," like how amazing, and that she, I think she feeds off the competition. She was like, I r- Mm. Like, "This really puts like a fire in my belly." Yeah. Like, "I'm really excited to race her again." Mm. That kind of thing. Which I, I really like that. 'Cause like, fair,
ZOOM0054_Tr4Keeley, she's already world champ at such a young age. Mm. It's probably good to know she's gonna have more, like, fierce competitors.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. So Werro, just to show how much she's improved, so she ran an 800 meter personal best of 1:55:91, at a Diamond League last year, but has now come out and run almost two seconds faster.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Mm. Still, so she's got some really fast times up her belt already.
ZOOM0054_Tr3but- Yeah two seconds-
ZOOM0054_Tr4That's good, yeah
ZOOM0054_Tr3like over 800 meters, that is absolutely crazy. Yeah. So
ZOOM0054_Tr4So
ZOOM0054_Tr3hats off to Audrey. And it was also so exciting 'cause I just feel like it's just gonna make, I don't know, the 800-
ZOOM0054_Tr4is- Yeah
ZOOM0054_Tr3more competitive and more exciting to watch. Yeah. Um, I do also wanna have a little note on the 800 meters. So people might have heard of the 400 meter hurdler from the Netherlands, Femke Bol. Mm. Who is amazing. She's like come, I think she h- has won pretty much like every title you can apart from the Olympics- Mm in the 400 meter hurdles. but she announced earlier that year, this year that she is actually transitioning over to the 800
ZOOM0054_Tr4over to the 800 meters. Really? So
ZOOM0054_Tr3her and Keely, I think are due- Oh to race in the next month or two, which will essentially be her like first
ZOOM0054_Tr4I can't wait to see that. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr3also
ZOOM0054_Tr4love seeing Femke run. Yeah, I was gonna say, if you watch her run, she's also an
videoyeah,
ZOOM0054_Tr3relay yeah, I was gonna say, if you watch her run, she's also an amazing relay runner. Um- Yes she like famously has sort of just like wound back people in like the later stages of a 400 meter- Yeah relay race. So that will be really exciting to watch. So good, yeah. Um, anyway, tell us about our very own Australian, Cam Myers. Yeah Who also raced in Stockholm.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Who also ran in Stockholm. Well, yeah, maybe two other really quick fire updates from Stockholm. One is Cam Myers, who people might know. He's very young. I think he's still 19. Yes. And he is a probably our best 1500 meter runner, um, despite his young age. But this was kind of like, I think one of his first like big dog races in a Diamond League, like racing- Mm the best in the world. So I think even though he always kills it in Australia, like won nationals and everything, it was interesting to see how he'd go against like Yared Nuguse, for example- Yeah, yeah who's Olympic bronze medalist and, a lot of other good runners in the field, and he killed it. I was watching the race. He basically led the whole thing. I mean, he was sitting behind the pacers, but then as soon as the pacers dropped off, he just like pushed the pace, pushed the pace, pushed the pace. And Yared was the only one who could really go with him. And Yared does have an amazing ability to just somehow win, win races. Like-
ZOOM0054_Tr3He's a really good racer,
ZOOM0054_Tr4looks like he's dead, but he just like finds something and like flings himself past
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr4it in the last Diamond. He's just won two Diamond Leagues in a row. so Cam did lose, uh, sorry, did lose he came second.
ZOOM0054_Tr3came second.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Um, and I think he was really just, I think he was really like, not dis- like disappointed is maybe the wrong word, but he was really like, "I
ZOOM0054_Tr3wanted-" He wanted to win.
ZOOM0054_Tr4yeah. Yeah. "And I wanted," he wants to do better and like- Yeah I think, but I think it's gonna be so good for his growth. Mm-hmm. Like now, like racing.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oh, Jared Nugent actually, if people haven't heard of him, he's in a, as Pheebs, you just said, he came third in the Olympics, but he's an American runner. and he, uh, came out as gay late last year. Ooh. And is just an amazing- Yeah I don't... Do you follow him on Instagram? No. He just seems... Oh, you don't have Instagram,
ZOOM0054_Tr4have Instagram. Cheeky doesn't follow him.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Cheeky should follow him. Yeah, sure. We'll follow him. He, uh, honestly just seems like- Yeah the nicest guy, and I feel like the, like, stuff that he's doing in America for the queer community as well, is just amazing. I feel like it would be, I mean, any time would be hard, but like, particularly at the moment, like, coming out when you're, like, a public profile in America. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr4He's very beloved, I
ZOOM0054_Tr3He, yeah. He, yeah, definitely. But, like-
ZOOM0054_Tr4Oh, but still- But it w- Not to say... Yeah, yeah. Yeah,
ZOOM0054_Tr3yeah. and yeah, I feel like if anyone's gonna beat an Australian, like, I'd want it to be
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah, I know. I feel the same. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr3the other quick thing that we wanted to mention from Stockholm is that Curtis Marshall, a- another Australian, he won the pole vault, and cleared 5 meters 90, which is actually I don't know. When you just look- That means
ZOOM0054_Tr4about- It means nothing to me.
ZOOM0054_Tr3I can like- It means nothing, but then if you actually think about, like, nearly six meters up in the air- Yeah, yeah, yeah imagine running towards that with a pole- It is crazy and then, like, having to jump over it. That is just, like, I don't know, pole vault is just, like, completely wild to me. Anyway, the significance of it was that he beat the world record and reigning Olympic champion, Mondo Duplantis, which people might, I feel like a lot of people would've heard of him. Oh, no. I feel like he's a bit more,
ZOOM0054_Tr4a- He's a bit of a pop star. He is. He
ZOOM0054_Tr3actually released a song. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr4music and... Um,
ZOOM0054_Tr3so he's had a, like, 42-event winning streak, and has- hasn't been beaten for over 1,000 days, and-
ZOOM0054_Tr4is such a funny stat.
ZOOM0054_Tr3I know. But, and like, he's also kind of famous for, 'cause I think every time you break a world record- Yeah you get a bonus, and he is like-
ZOOM0054_Tr4by, like, one
ZOOM0054_Tr3he keeps breaking his own world record by literally a centimeter, and then, like, stops. Which, I mean- Yeah credit, like-
ZOOM0054_Tr4yeah, yeah. Why
ZOOM0054_Tr3Why wouldn't you do that? Like, just, like, reap as many rewards as possible. But yeah, that was That and Audry Werro, they were probably the performances- Mm of the meet.
ZOOM0054_Tr4meet. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, very exciting.
ZOOM0054_Tr3okay. And overnight, th- there was the Oslo Diamond League that
ZOOM0054_Tr4it's Thursday morning. It's Thursday morning. This
ZOOM0054_Tr3currently, yeah. And the Oslo Diamond League happened overnight. So again- All right spoiled, with the amount of running content we're able to consume at the moment. Yeah. Curtis Marshall, just on the back of chatting about him, won again overnight, so his second Diamond League win in a week. And also, a longtime Australian record, was broken in the 5,000 meter men's by Kai Robinson. Crazy. Absolutely wild. So he ran a time of 12 minutes 50 seconds for 5Ks, which is- What
ZOOM0054_Tr4he come? insane. Um- Do you know what he placed?
ZOOM0054_Tr3and beat the longstanding record of 12:55 that was set in- Oh, he smashed that 2004 by Craig Mottram. Wow. So that is, like, actually insane. he came eighth
ZOOM0054_Tr4Oh, gosh
ZOOM0054_Tr3But it was pretty close, so the guy who won ran 12:47. Okay And then, yeah
ZOOM0054_Tr4It's pretty good. Pretty, pretty good Pretty impressive. And excitingly, there was another women's middle distance absolute battle for 3,000 meters. A little bit of a different, race. Um, it was between Linden, Linden Hall, Rose Davies, Georgia Griffith, and Lauren Ryan. And Linden took it out.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Linden took it out, so she came sixth ove- overall, but she was actually w- winning. So she was behind the pacers, and then they pulled out after 2Ks, and then she was at the front of the race.
ZOOM0054_Tr4not afraid to lead out a race, Linden. No
ZOOM0054_Tr3she's... I feel like sh- yeah, she's very, she's very brave. So she held on for sixth. Rose Davies then finished ninth in a PB
ZOOM0054_Tr4Oh, huge um,
ZOOM0054_Tr3roughly two seconds behind Linden in 8:29:63. And then Lauren Ryan finished 10th in 8:33, and then Georgia Griffith finished 16th in 8:40. So Georgia Griffith, she's actually the Australian record holder- Mm for 3K.
ZOOM0054_Tr4has she been injured or something? I feel like she hasn't really been- Yeah, I'm not sure around as much this
ZOOM0054_Tr3I'm not sure. so- Hopefully
ZOOM0054_Tr4way back. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr3she's on her way back. Yeah, so she actually set the women's 3K Australian record at this event two years ago in 8:24. Wow. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Wow. Very exciting. And then final update on the professional runners front is just that, well, as we said, we're recording this Thursday morning. Apparently tomorrow, on Friday morning, the first Comm Games athletics team announcement is coming out in terms of selection. So very excited to hear
ZOOM0054_Tr3to hear- Very exciting about that
ZOOM0054_Tr4team.
ZOOM0054_Tr3We'll pop it on our, we'll pop it on Instagram- Yeah, when it comes out when it, when, when it
ZOOM0054_Tr4If, if it does. I don't know, they're not always good with dates,
ZOOM0054_Tr3yeah. I, yeah, but, this episode will obviously come out on Monday, so I wouldn't actually... Hopefully by then we know, but who knows? Um,
videoUm,
ZOOM0054_Tr3who knows? Um,
videoUm,
ZOOM0054_Tr3all right, let's all right, let's go back to the petty running hills, that people are keen to die on. Did you
ZOOM0054_Tr4you see the poll that we did about, warm down versus cool down? Yeah. People hate warm down.
ZOOM0054_Tr3walk down. Pe- I'm gonna say it more. I'm
ZOOM0054_Tr4also, so we put out a call out for, like, okay, does anyone else have, like, a petty Running Hill they will die on? Funnily enough, I was reading through the responses and there were, like, four or five people who completely missed the brief and told us about, like, hills that they didn't like to run
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. I know.
ZOOM0054_Tr4I like this one. Someone
ZOOM0054_Tr3Shout out to you
ZOOM0054_Tr4yeah, I know. I
ZOOM0054_Tr3like it's really cute.
ZOOM0054_Tr4so nice that they responded with, like- Yeah. that would've been the worst question ever.
ZOOM0054_Tr3question ever. Yeah. Imagine times are tough if we're asking you what's your least favorite heel to run on. This
ZOOM0054_Tr4up. Yeah. This person said, so yeah, I s- like, the call out was what petty Running Hill would you die on? And this one s- person said, "The one on our footy oval when we're at the end of our warmup lap at training."
ZOOM0054_Tr3I mean- fair enough. fair enough. Doesn't sound like something that would be fun. Yeah. all right. So Would you die on this petty running hill? Running is better with music even when you're running with a friend.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Oh, my gosh.
videoI've-
ZOOM0054_Tr3I-
videoknow
ZOOM0054_Tr4I know exactly who submitted this.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oh, do you? Yes. Oh, yeah. Actually.
ZOOM0054_Tr4And she does, this is my sister, and she does-
ZOOM0054_Tr3don't know who. I think we're meant to keep these anonymous Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Sorry, Soph. She actually also said at the end, "Queen behavior." I was like- "Okay,
ZOOM0054_Tr3actually also said at the end, "Queen behavior." It is true. Self-appointed queen
ZOOM0054_Tr4behavior it is, it is queen behavior. Like, I'll go on a run with Soph and I won't even bring my headphones, and a few hundred meters in she's like, "All right, pop the headphones in." Why? Um- And so what- No, I die on
ZOOM0054_Tr3talk to you for the rest of
ZOOM0054_Tr4No, she'll just talk, she'll just talk to me over her music. Oh, oh. She's just like- That's very... That's awesome
ZOOM0054_Tr3There's a lot going on
ZOOM0054_Tr4track. She finds it motivating. It also means the pace is so erratic, because if a good song comes on- she's picking up the pace. She's, uh-
ZOOM0054_Tr3Lose
ZOOM0054_Tr4Immediately. She's immediately And
ZOOM0054_Tr3comes on and she's like, "Hang on. Woo, woo,
ZOOM0054_Tr4That is literally what happens. no, I die on the opposite hill of it's really rude when you're running with your sister or your
ZOOM0054_Tr3Or your
ZOOM0054_Tr4Agreed to have music in.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. I'll be walking over this hill.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Okay, one thing that is nice, I've done before with our friend Leesh. Mm-hmm. Um, one headphone each, same music playing.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oh, nice. Yeah. And then, so do you chat or-
ZOOM0054_Tr4Well, this was in a session.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oh.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Oh, oh. Yeah. You
ZOOM0054_Tr3know what? It
ZOOM0054_Tr4a long tempo that's a whole nother area. It was really cool. I wanna do that.
ZOOM0054_Tr3fun I
ZOOM0054_Tr4really cool. Okay. L- yeah,
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. Yeah. That sounds really cool. Okay. Yeah, like- I remember, Dave one time saying, 'cause he isn't a huge runner, and he was gonna run with some of his friends who are also not huge runners. They were, like, going to meetups kind of, and it was like kind of a big thing. Anyway, and then one of them said, 'cause there was three of them, one of them said, "Oh, yeah, just so you know, whenever me and this other guy run together, we just like put our headphones in." And Dave was like, "Wait, so why am I driving-
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr3you to go for a run if we're not even gonna talk anyway?" Yeah. And I was like, "You know what? Fair enough."
videopoint. Yeah. I was like, "You know what? Fair enough."
ZOOM0054_Tr3Um,
ZOOM0054_Tr4okay, I'm gonna pick one for you. Okay, would you on this petty running hill? Dogs shouldn't be allowed on running paths 'cause they get in the way, and a similar version, dogs shouldn't be allowed at parkrun.
ZOOM0054_Tr3dog, whoever wrote this in. okay, I'll, I'll split it into two. So the first, dogs shouldn't, on running paths. Absolutely they can. I just think they need to be controlled, on the leash- Mm preferably. because otherwise I feel like that is dangerous and also a tripping hazard. But, like, there's no reason why a dog can't be- Mm on the running path if, the owner's with them and-
ZOOM0054_Tr4You guys should see Anna's face right now.
ZOOM0054_Tr3I'm literally just so confused right now. I, I have
ZOOM0054_Tr4I have to say, I know that, where I train in Sydney sometimes on, like, a Tuesday morning, that session, there are sometimes people who walk their dog, like, where we're doing the session. Yeah. And they have- often are on a leash. Yeah. But it actually doesn't help because the dog will run across and it's like a crazy tripping hazard, and it is like you're, if you're running towards a pace, like trying to do a session- Yeah and you see someone with their dog, and especially if they're not hyper-aware of you, it's, like, quite nerve-wracking almost. You're
ZOOM0054_Tr3like- Oh, definitely running and you're like- But I w- in response to that, I feel like that's a dog off-lead area, not a specific running path
ZOOM0054_Tr4Where we do the session? Yeah. It's a running path. As in a designated running path?
ZOOM0054_Tr3As in a designated running path?
ZOOM0054_Tr4As in, yeah. As in, what do you mean? I, I think you're allowed dogs there as well. Yeah, yeah. Like, I don't
ZOOM0054_Tr3yeah, that's what- I think yeah, no, no, I more mean, like, it's not as though it's, like, a bike path kind of thing with, like-
ZOOM0054_Tr4No. No, it's just like a path in Centennial Park, like
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. I feel like, dogs are allowed.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah. I think they are, but I also understand why it's really
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oh, it would- if you're doing a session yeah, especially- If you're doing a session I feel like I would get annoyed if I was doing a session and there was a dog. But I- I, but I- At the same time, I don't think they shouldn't be allowed.
ZOOM0054_Tr4I think, no, I agree with that. I think if you... It's your responsibility as the dog owner to, be aware of the people around you. You know what I mean? Like- Yeah, yeah. 'Cause it's fine if you're like, okay, like pull them to the side a bit- Yeah or whatever. But sometimes these people are so unaware, and their dog's like over the other side
ZOOM0054_Tr3and they just, like, don't
ZOOM0054_Tr4And like running around
ZOOM0054_Tr3yeah. I will say as well- Mm there have been times where I've, like, gone for a run with Ted, and it is so annoying. Like, he
ZOOM0054_Tr4Oh, really? He's like- Even for you
ZOOM0054_Tr3cons- Even for you constantly trying to trip me up kind of thing. Yeah. And then I think to the times where sometimes, like, I've taken him for a run in a group, and I'm like, "Oh my God, people must hate that." Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr4No, he's pretty good. Or I
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oh, I feel like sometimes he, he likes to be, like, underneath people's legs, which isn't- Mm isn't amazing. That's- Um, the second part I have a little bit more empathy for- Mm-hmm the dogs at Park Run, just because it is, there are a lot of people. and I can, yeah, I feel like that would actually be annoying. And I also think- Yeah it's, again, a tripping hazard, and if you're trying to, like, run a PB or something and there are, like, dogs around you, that would be so annoying.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Maybe it's like if you have a dog at parkrun, like, you're jogging at the back kind of
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah, 'cause it's not as though, like you're not allowed dogs in a fun run or anything,
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah, no. And that's,
ZOOM0054_Tr3of similar.
ZOOM0054_Tr4No, definitely not.
ZOOM0054_Tr3okay. So, would you die on this petty running hill? People not wearing supportive running bras. Doesn't it hurt?
ZOOM0054_Tr4I would die on that running hill. I think I understand that I definitely have friends who are like, "I genuinely don't need a supportive, a super supportive running bra." Mm-hmm. And, they can wear like a crop top that sort of helps. Yeah, yeah. And, and I think that's okay, but I also
ZOOM0054_Tr3feel
ZOOM0054_Tr4feel like I see people running who definitely do- Need need a supportive running bra, and they're
ZOOM0054_Tr3supportive than they are wearing
ZOOM0054_Tr4They have no idea. Yeah, I feel like especially some of those, like, really cool running bras that, like, cross... bikini top looking ones. Do you know the ones that I mean? They're like the w- the ones people
ZOOM0054_Tr3some of them are like- little strings Yeah, I was gonna say, they're like twisty top ones- Yeah that they're
ZOOM0054_Tr4top ones
ZOOM0054_Tr3Or even sometimes I see people and they're running with like a one shoulder sports
ZOOM0054_Tr4shoulder bra. And, and-
videosports bra. And, and- I'm
ZOOM0054_Tr3like, "You can't be doing
ZOOM0054_Tr4I'm like, "You can't be doing that." Some of them, like, yeah, b- really need, like, look like they need more support, and I'm like, "Oh, I feel like I feel uncomfortable
ZOOM0054_Tr3Watching, yeah, definitely feel good.
ZOOM0054_Tr4good-" Yeah,
ZOOM0054_Tr3yeah. Yeah, I would, I mean, not that you want my input, but I would die on this running heel. Yeah. But I, and at the same token, I don't know why, like, it doesn't actually make a difference to me, but for some reason it just annoys me.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Okay. Would you die on this petty running hill, not liking someone's Strava activities if they don't like yours? No,
videoyou I
ZOOM0054_Tr4I'd walk over it. I honestly-
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah, I actually would have... I don't know who likes or doesn't like mine. Yeah. I just... And I feel like I, if I'm on Strava, I like everyone's, but I sometimes will probably miss heaps of people's as well.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah. What- Who likes your Strava even? No. Oh, yeah, I, I don't know who likes my-
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah, I feel like that's a- I
ZOOM0054_Tr4don't like everyone's necessarily. Yeah. As soon as I'm just not thinking about liking people's-
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah, you're just scrolling. Kinda looking Yeah but not liking, but doesn't mean- Lurking I'm
ZOOM0054_Tr4liking, but doesn't mean that I'm not like, "Good job." You're lurking in the shadow. Yeah, I'm just lurking. There was another Strava one which, was about, hiding all your runs on Strava is completely unnecessary. No one cares that much. Mm. What do you think?
ZOOM0054_Tr3I would sit on this hill, 'cause I have... I mean, I
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah, you get,
ZOOM0054_Tr3of my, like, when I was, like, when I've been, like, wolf running and stuff. but m- that was more because I didn't want people to judge me.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Was that... Well, well this is what they're saying, no
ZOOM0054_Tr3and- No one cares. Yeah, I mean, no one probably does care- Uh but it makes me feel better, so I care.
ZOOM0054_Tr4The ultimate defense.
ZOOM0054_Tr3ultimate defense. The ultimate defense. What do you think?
ZOOM0054_Tr4I agree no one cares that much, but I also agree with you that it's more about how you feel- Yeah as an
ZOOM0054_Tr3I feel like you can do what you want. I think you're right. And also, if it's hidden, no one knows. going for a walk. Um, okay. Would you die in this? Petty Running Heel. It's annoying to break up your Strava runs to warm up, session, cool down. So essentially uploading three runs for one run. You mean warm up, session, and down. Do you know, I-
ZOOM0054_Tr4to do this when I very first started doing sessions and, like, training with a group, because everyone did it, and I just thought that's what you did.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. And then his first- Yeah, yeah. And then-
ZOOM0054_Tr4And then it wasn't until I came to Melbourne and no one did it, and I had to really quickly
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oh
ZOOM0054_Tr4Oh oh, that's not actually the norm. The norm. But I liked it because it would split up the pace and one run would look really, like, fast.
ZOOM0054_Tr3I also, I mean, I feel like I wouldn't die on this hill 'cause there is a world where it's actually, I feel like you can get a better grasp of, like, how you went in a session- Yeah if it's split up into all three. Yes,
ZOOM0054_Tr4I now also appreciate that it's annoying for other people
videoback to
ZOOM0054_Tr4And she's so cute. Um, but I do appreciate for other people scrolling Strava, it's not very interesting content. Yeah. And I would rather see it all together- Yeah when I'm scrolling. Yeah. So I understand from a viewing experience. Okay, final one. Would you die on this petty running hill? Mm-hmm. It's Anderson Ave, not Anderson Street, and the street sign needs to be corrected.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Okay, so this is for anyone who lives in Melbourne. Mm. Because their, like, f- famous, in quotation marks, hill around the famous, in quotation marks, running track, The Tan, is called Anderson Street. Are they saying that it's technically actually Anderson Ave?
ZOOM0054_Tr4Ave? They are, but I have Googled it, and it's Anderson Street. And I think they're, they're also saying the street sign needs to, to be corrected. So they must just, there must be people who call it Anderson Ave-
ZOOM0054_Tr3call it Anderson Ave. It's
ZOOM0054_Tr4Street and think that it should be. I know. We've only ever called
ZOOM0054_Tr3it Anderson Street. Yeah. No, I- So
ZOOM0054_Tr4let us know who you are. If you're, if you're one of those people who's saying Anderson Ave.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah, I disagree. I th- it's Anderson Street. Yeah. I'll die on that hill.
ZOOM0054_Tr4I'll die on, I'll die on the street, on the hill if it's Anderson Street. I'll literally die on the Anderson Street hill. That is not a petty hill Um, but thank you so much to everyone who submitted a petty Running Hill. Love to bring this back next week. We'll do another poll, um, on our Instagram slash... Yeah, maybe we'll do a poll. I wanna hear if other people think they are, they would die on those petty Running Hills, and then also we'll do a question box to submit some more for next week. but now let's jump into, I'm so excited to catch up about how your rehab and return to running is going. So, um, give us a bit of an update. What have you been thinking about? Yeah. So-
videoI have been loving
ZOOM0054_Tr3give us a bit of an update. What have you been thinking about? Yeah. So I have been loving getting back into running Sure.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Shocked? So
ZOOM0054_Tr3So at the moment I'm running four times a week, so I'm doing like Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday. and my longest so far has been eight kilometers. Mm-hmm.
ZOOM0054_Tr4Mm-hmm. With some strides
ZOOM0054_Tr3with some strides and a session. And a session.
ZOOM0054_Tr4And the session
ZOOM0054_Tr3which has been really fun. I will say, I mean, I think I've spoken about it as well, you do, I reckon potentially maybe from being quite sedentary, particularly like straight after childbirth, I feel like there must be a lot of muscle wastage, um, because your legs just like feel quite weak. much more so, I think I've even mentioned on the podcast, like much more so than if you're like coming back from an injury or something. So I have been finding, doing, like, gym exercises probably even, like, a lot more helpful than- Ooh pre, pregnancy even. and I think as well that just for injury prevention because I do feel a lot weaker. I feel like everything's probably, like, working overtime. Yeah. another, avenue of injury prevention postpartum, particularly while you're breastfeeding, is just the, like, pregnancy and breastfeeding associated bone density loss. So you increase- Ooh risk for stress fractures. Izzy Smith the endocrinologist, did a post on this, like, years back. but I remember reading it at the time and being like, "Oh, that's interesting." But obviously now I'm like, "Oh, that's really interesting." Yeah, yeah. So- It's relevance essentially, in pregnancy and breastfeeding, bone density decreases by around 3 to 5%. Um, and its bone density returns to baseline, like, 12 months,
videoand
ZOOM0054_Tr4It's bone density returns to baseline like 12 months,
ZOOM0054_Tr3post, weaning the breastfeeding and everything. Oh, wow. And it, it doesn't seem to appear to impact bone density in the long run. However, aside from the pregnancy, breastfeeding is associated with further bone density loss. Um, and the longer you do it for, essentially, the bone density may not actually ever return to baseline, which I found pretty incredible. Wow. Yeah. So studies s- differ-
ZOOM0054_Tr4My God study
ZOOM0054_Tr3outcomes differ slightly, but it seems to be if breastfeeding for over 12 months per baby, or in total of over 24 to 36 months, there is an increased osteoporosis risk of about, two times essentially, which can likely be attributed to longer periods of low estrogen. Wow. but the low estrogen is likely part of why we see a slight reduction in breast cancer with prolonged breastfeeding. Ooh. So,
ZOOM0054_Tr4So- Okay.
ZOOM0054_Tr3saying, like, everything has, like, risks and benefits. Yeah, yeah, yeah. but yeah. So for most women, the transient bone density loss is not an issue. but if you have a low bone density prior to pregnancy, people, sometimes actually recommended to, like, limit duration of breastfeeding or have a break between pregnancies to allow- Yeah bone density to return to baseline.
ZOOM0054_Tr4What about like supplements and so
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. So, she sort of recommends, always getting- your, like, vitamins and minerals and everything just from your diet and that kind of thing. Um, and that you should be able to, like, get enough through that. But she actually says breastfeeding is really the only time that she recommends routine calcium supplementation,
ZOOM0054_Tr4supplementation-
ZOOM0054_Tr3as there is evidence that it might decrease bone loss, and so therefore, like, help prevent stress fractures- Wow in athletes. Which I found pretty interesting. Yeah. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr4to be across.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Good to be across. So
ZOOM0054_Tr4And like just aware that that's a risk and something to keep an eye out for. Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr3I'm gonna have to weigh that that's a risk and tell me to keep an eye out. Yeah. So I think the take-home message is eat all of the ice cream, have as many milky coffees as possible. Eat as
videopossible eat the
ZOOM0054_Tr4milkshakes as you like. And are you taking calcium supplements as
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah, I am. Yeah. Yeah. So I was from the start just because of, um- You're good with
ZOOM0054_Tr4You're good with your dairy intake though. I
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah, I love dairy.
ZOOM0054_Tr4get your dairy. Yeah. Yeah, you hit your numbers.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Um, I hit my numbers. But yeah, I f- yeah, I I had seen it a couple years ago. Um, and I thought it was, like, semi-interesting, but now I'm like, "Oh, whoa, it's actually
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah, it's crazy how much you need to, like, keep, be aware
ZOOM0054_Tr3And yeah, yeah with the kids. And, like, I feel like there's quite a lot of talk, about, like, making sure you're eating enough while you're breastfeeding and all that stuff- Yeah but also obviously matters, like, what you're eating as well. Yeah, yeah. but yeah, so that is this week's Rehab Diaries. So good. I'm excited-
videoMaybe next week's rehab diaries or
ZOOM0054_Tr4obviously matters like what you're eating Yeah, yeah Um, but yeah, so that is this week's Rehab Diaries. So good. I'm excited. Maybe next week's Rehab Diaries or one in the future we can talk about now that you're back sessioning, whether you wanna sign up for any- Races fun runs, which is your your goal for the year. Yeah. So you've got a long way to go. You got, as in you got lots of time to go, but I reckon you can start getting one on the calendar.
ZOOM0054_Tr3you know what? This is, I'm almost like, it feels silly admitting this. I'm scared... I, I feel like I have this, like, bad juju that if I sign up for something, I'll just get injured. Mm. Like, I almost wanna, like, wait- Mm until it's, like, two days before the race,
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah and then
ZOOM0054_Tr3do it."
ZOOM0054_Tr4it. But I think it's the, the training for the event that gets you injured- Yeah not the act of signing up.
videosigning
ZOOM0054_Tr3don't reckon? You don't re- I feel like it's something when I'm, like, typing on
ZOOM0054_Tr4Yeah.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Yeah. to be like, "Register." Yeah. When the funds come out of my bank account.
ZOOM0054_Tr4know.
ZOOM0054_Tr3The injury gods. The injury gods know.
ZOOM0054_Tr4very exciting. And it was so nice, I saw you at the end of your session, and you were just flying along, and you looked so happy. So happy.
ZOOM0054_Tr3Oh, it was so good. Gonna be riding the high all day. So
ZOOM0054_Tr4good to see. Yes.
ZOOM0054_Tr3I think that's all we got time for this week.
ZOOM0054_Tr4this week. Literally. It is. Literally. thanks so much everyone for tuning in this week, and we can't wait to be back in your ears next week. Bye. Bye.
ZOOM0054_Tr3to be back in your ears next week. Bye. Bye.
ZOOM0054_Tr4week, and we can't wait to be back in your ears next week. Bye. Bye.
ZOOM0054_Tr3to be back in your ears next week. Bye. Bye.
videoNice. Oh, was that fun? I can't resist a good battery. I know, I saw that
