Get ready for unfiltered dietitian real talk that speaks to your soul and empowers you to live the life you desire. Hello, hello and welcome to the podcast. Today I just wanted to come on and give you some RD real talk on a client that I've been working with and what we have been doing to really get to the root of what is getting in her way, and I think a lot of people can resonate with this. So this is going to be a quick little podcast, a quick RD Real Talk session and a little bit of a reality check for a lot of you maybe. So my question to you is are your actions in line with your expectations? Are your actions in line with your expectations? Because majority of the women I'm working with are working towards weight loss and a better relationship with food. But the thing is, as a coach, as a dietitian, I cannot do the things for you. We can talk, we can have a conversation, we can set up all of the goals, but you are the one that needs to take action. So are you taking action on the goals you are setting out for yourself, or are you completely just leaving them to the wayside and then complaining when you don't see a result?
Speaker 1:So I was talking with a client this week and I was really diving into some deeper rooted issues. So she has been really struggling with her goals with weight loss, and I can just see in her body language that, as we're talking about goals and what we're going to set for the week, and it's something so simple like she wanted to be tracking, she wanted to be hitting water, she wanted to be getting protein at all of her meals and I had to like pump the brakes with her because I could just see in body language that none of this felt good to her and she almost was talking to me in the sense that, yeah, that sounds great, but I'm not going to do it Like I'm not going to do anything we're talking about, and I can pick up on that when I'm having a conversation with a client. So my question to her is like do you want to do this? Is this something you want to actually do? And she said no and I was like why? Why are we here? Then, like, what are we doing? What are we talking about? And her answer was I don't know, and I know I'm not going to do what we're talking about. I already know that I'm not going to do what we're talking about doing and I know that I'm going to fail at this. So this circles back to something so much deeper that many people don't pick up on, and that is the fear of one failure or that inner mean girl coming up and you not believing in yourself and you not willing to take the action and get uncomfortable because you already think that you're going to fail at what we're setting forth. So something you need to know is that before you jump into any goal, you need to understand that the voice in your head that is saying I am not going to do this, I'm a failure, I cannot lose weight, everything I've done before has not worked, so this is going to fail too. I don't know why I'm here. I don't know what I'm working on, because nothing I've ever done works. If that is something you are saying to yourself, you need to pause and take a step back and remember why you are doing this in the first place, and you also need to be able to pull it back and have a small goal.
Speaker 1:So many of you are jumping into your goal for full force. You want to hit your macros. You want to hit your protein. You want to go to the gym five days a week, while right now you're going out to eat five times a week, you're eating every single meal out. You are not getting even half of your protein. Right now, your water is non-existent. You don't go to the gym now, so why are we thinking we can do everything at once? Are we thinking we can do everything at once? You need to take a step back and find one goal that feels good, and you need to prove to that inner mean girl that you can do this. You can do this. So set one goal for yourself.
Speaker 1:That is my lesson to you from this little RD rant. I need you to pick one thing you know you can do, and for this client. You know she went from having all of these goals and really feeling like a failure because she's not reaching them to picking one goal, and I'm like, on a scale of one to 10, how confident do you feel that you can do this for seven days in a row? And she said a nine. So that is what we want to get to. So for her it was something as simple as packing lunch. That's it. No waiting, no, going out for lunch and packing your lunch, packing some snacks so you have stuff, because you're a busy mom, you're running around, pack a lunch so you don't have to stop. So that is literally the only goal we set after having a conversation for a full hour.
Speaker 1:So that is something you all need to realize. Stop going for the all or nothing mentality, because it is the number one thing that is holding you back. You are not reaching your goals because once you decide you want to lose weight or you want to, you know, get stronger at the gym, you set 10 tasks for yourself that if you don't hit every single one, you're failing at the goal you set, and that is the farthest thing from the truth and the biggest form of self-sabotage. So I really want you to understand that these smaller goals, the one goal, the one habit is going to build onto something else. But that's not going to happen if you keep giving up after you know you set 10 goals and don't reach any of them.
Speaker 1:So my RD Real Talk for the day is to one make sure your actions are in line with your expectations. You are not going to lose weight by doing the same exact things that you're doing right now. You have to get uncomfortable with a new routine, with a new you know habit habit, with a new structure in your day, or you're going to stay stuck. Um, so that's my little, my little rant for the day. I hope this was helpful. Please feel free to send me a DM about what you're working on, what is your one thing and how are you getting ahead of your goals. Just some rd real talk for you today. Hopefully this was helpful.
