Hey, hey, welcome back to the Money Mom podcast. I am so excited that you're joining me on today's episode because it's gonna be a good one. I'm having a hard time believing that it's already March of this year. You know how everyone always says that January is like the slowest month ever. You know, it's like every day just crawls by, but then, for some reason, february hit and then it was like the end of February and we have spring break coming up, and then it's like two months out till school gets out and I'm just, I don't even know. I just feel like we just started this school year.
Speaker 1:March is a fun month because inside Money Mom Club, we are tackling money mindset. In the month of March Decided to do some alliteration with that Money mindset March and I recently received a comment on Instagram. It's kind of funny because a lot of my podcast episodes ends up being like things that I hear from Instagram or feedback from our members or whatever, and then I'm like, oh, I should create a podcast episode about that. And this episode stemmed from a message that I got on Instagram where a woman was basically saying to me that money is evil and that money, all evil, stems from money, and I think a lot of people have this root idea that money is evil, money comes from Satan or an evil source. And I want to tackle this money belief and truly believe that it holds you back, and that is that money is not evil. We've all heard it, the saying before, right, that money is the root of all evil. Rich people are greedy. Wanting more money means you're selfish, and I hear things all the time that people believe about the wealthy and how money works, and I just want to question those beliefs, because are those beliefs actually true? And today I want to bust that belief wide open and rewrite this idea. If you have a deep-seated belief that money is evil, have a deep-seated belief that money is evil. Can we change that belief? Because, truthfully, if you believe money is evil, you're probably repelling it from yourself, you are probably pushing it away from you, and that's you know. Maybe you want to do that. Maybe you don't want more money in your life, maybe you don't want more freedom, maybe you don't want the ease that money can bring. Because here's the truth Money is not evil, money is neutral. And if you're like, yeah, prove it, prove to me that money is not evil, we're going to do that.
Speaker 1:I want you to view money as a simple tool. That's all it is. Money is a tool, just like a hammer is a tool. That's all it is. Money is a tool, just like a hammer is a tool. And a hammer can be used for different things. A hammer can be used to build a house. It can be used to slam nails into boards that build a beautiful home. A hammer could also be used as a weapon to hurt someone really badly. So it's not actually the item that is evil or good. It's what we do with it that makes the difference. And that's exactly what it's like with a hammer. You can do more good in this world with money and you can do more evil in this world with money, but it's not money that is the driving factor for that.
Speaker 1:Let's start by looking at where maybe your idea that money is evil came from. One of the most common places we hear this belief is actually a misquote from the Bible. Now, I'm a Christian born in a very religious household, still very religious, read the Bible and this quote. When I hear this quote, I just cringe. Where it's?
Speaker 1:The love of money is the root of all evil. And even that sometimes I'd have to dissect that, because I don't think it's a bad thing to love money or to be grateful around money or to feel like money is a good thing Because I do. I believe that money is good, I believe that we can do real good with money. But the love of money means greed and obsession and honestly valuing money over people, relationships, those kinds of things. When we make money the most important thing in our life, we're focusing on something that, again, is neutral. It doesn't bring us true happiness, it doesn't bring us what we think it does. And so obsessing over money or that is the one thing that we're going after doesn't actually, it leaves us feeling empty and not getting those deeper feelings of peace and freedom and happiness. So somewhere along the way society twisted that money itself is evil.
Speaker 1:From that saying, and because of that, a lot of us, especially as women and moms, we have this internal conflict. We want to be good people, we want to be generous, we want to be kind, but we also want to have financial security and abundance and the ability to give freely. And if we believe that money is somehow bad, we sabotage ourselves without even realizing it. You cannot give if you don't have. You cannot help other people if you don't have the resources to do that. I had a recent experience that really drilled in this idea that we can't do all the good we want to do without money. I was at a business conference in December and this is a three-day event where there's a bunch of entrepreneurs in the room and we're all talking all things when it comes to running a business and on the first or second day I can't remember what day it was our business coach presents a charity for the week or for the conference that then they present the charity and we are then asked to give to that charity because, again, gratitude and giving is one of the highest energy frequencies that we can obtain and as a human being, it's really important to learn to give.
Speaker 1:So this person came up on the stage and started to present his charity and I had never heard of this charity before, but it's a very popular charity in. It's called Charity Water and he talked about his story of how he created this charity and basically had started going on mission trips to Africa where they go on a boat and ride down the coast of Africa. It's a medical mission where anybody who has anything medical needs that they don't have access to in the country could then go to the coast and go on these ships, and cleft palates are a big one. If you have tumors or anything that needs to be taken care of, they would take care of it on the ship. And he was on the ship for a couple of years. He volunteered.
Speaker 1:For a couple of years he volunteered and what he realized was that most of the medical issues that stem in these third world countries actually come from not having enough drinking water or not having clean drinking water readily available to their communities and villages. And it was, you know, he saw firsthand how many deaths and diseases there were purely because there wasn't enough clean water in the country, and so he made it his mission. He started a charity and started really small where they would drill wells for these communities. Oftentimes in these small villages the women would go hike for eight hours a day or more to go get clean water, bring it back to their communities so that they could have water for that day, and then they would do that day in and day out to have access to clean drinking water. So he would come in with these wells and drill into the ground near the village, so that these women didn't have to travel eight hours walking to get clean drinking water, and most of the time the water that they got wasn't clean anyways. So, anyways, he started this charity to get clean drinking water. He shared some amazing stories about what they've been able to do. They've been able to bring like 2 million people clean drinking water and have changed lives and just you know, very impactful story that he shared and what he's doing in the world honestly.
Speaker 1:And at the end he asked us entrepreneurs to donate to his charity. And as I sat there in a room full of really successful business owners, I was blown away at the amount. I mean, it gets me choked up the amount of money that people were willing to donate to a organization that they just had recently come in contact with and didn't know the people that they were serving. Right, they didn't know that the individuals that were going to get the clean drinking water but the amount of money people were willing to give to this charity, and again, surrounded by very wealthy individuals, and I sat there thinking I couldn't donate to this charity if I didn't have extra money to give, and so that became a deep value for me and my business is. I want to have a successful business. I want to be able to have extra abundance in my life so that I can give as freely as possible. We're talking tens of thousands of dollars that people, certain individuals, were giving, and that was just a powerful story to me of the power of having money so that I can create more good in this world. You cannot give if you don't have money in the first place. I will always remember that and remember how important it is to give when you have excess. So here's the reframe I want you to sit with today.
Speaker 1:Money is neutral. It's simply a tool and whenever we start to feel negative emotions around money, we go back to that. Money is neutral, in fact, I love. One day I was talking to my sister about this and she said money magnifies the person that you already are. Money just magnifies it. It doesn't turn you into something. But if you're already a little bit greedy, money is going to make you more greedy. If you're already generous, more money is going to make you more generous. Again, we think of money like a hammer. If you're greedy, selfish and only out for yourself, then, yeah, having money is just going to magnify it. But money itself is not the problem. It's the person using it.
Speaker 1:And let's get real for a second. Some of the biggest ways we can make an impact on this world require money, and I've seen this in my life, as I've had times in my life where I haven't had any extra money to give and in times where I have had extra money to give. And the ability to give money or resources or anything to someone else is one of the greatest feelings in the world. When you find a family in need and you can give them something that feels really good. When you want to support small businesses or take a friend to lunch or buy someone a gift, you have to have money to do that. Having money makes it easier to cover your bills and to cover the necessities of life. You need money in order to sustain basic needs, and I know a lot of moms feel guilty for wanting more money, but I want to shift that as well. You don't want more money just to hoard it or to be greedy. You want it so it can fill the values in your life.
Speaker 1:Money doesn't actually give you anything. Money gives you opportunity to then create things in your life that's not selfish. That's responsible. Most people don't actually want money. What they actually want is freedom, peace, happiness, joy. Those are the things that want money. What they actually want is freedom, peace, happiness, joy. Those are the things that people really want, and they believe that money is going to give that to them. Money doesn't actually give you those things, but it creates an opportunity to have those things, and the more financial security you have, the more good you can do in this world. Money gives you choices. It gives you the ability to take care of yourself and others.
Speaker 1:So if you've been carrying around this belief that money is evil or bad, I want you to take a second and ask yourself is that true in every situation that I see? Is every single person that is wealthy that I know evil, or do they do bad things with their money? Or, on the flip side, is every single person who doesn't have money who's poor? Are they good because they don't have money? And is that belief true in every sense and circumstance? And, more importantly, is that belief true in every sense and circumstance? And, more importantly, is that belief actually serving you? Because if a belief is keeping you stuck, it's keeping you stressed, it's constantly making you in fear, then guess what? You have the power to rewrite that script. Here's the new script I want you to tell yourself Money is a tool and I use it wisely to support my family and make an impact. The more money I have, the more good I can do in this world and I am a good person and I will use money to reflect that goodness.
Speaker 1:If you start telling yourself that those statements instead of money is evil or money makes people greedy bad, I promise you your entire financial life will start to shift, and it's these little stepping stones that we create that the bigger ripple effects later on. You have to change the way you show up around money and the way you think about money if you want to change your reality, and most people, I would say, would like more money in their life. So if you think money is evil, is it actually evil? And I hope today we've given you some reasons to believe that it's not, and money can be used for so much good. And I can't wait to dive into this deeper with our members. I'm taking our members through a money mindset course, the 21 day audio program that we have, and each day we tackle different facets of our belief with money and how we show up around money, and so this is just like a little tip of the iceberg. Fun little exercise for you, but if you want to, if you find yourself having really hard feelings around money, it could be your money mindset and the way that you experience money. So get yourself into the Money Mom Club. Go through this with us, because it has the power to completely change your life.
Speaker 1:All right, I hope this episode gave you a new perspective on money. All right, I hope this episode gave you a new perspective on money.
