  • A calm Fourth of July memory can turn into a full-blown “did that really just happen?” moment in seconds and that’s exactly where we start. I’m sharing our family holiday highlights, from being together with both my kids to a day at the Alameda County Fair that ends with a sky ride surprise: a bag drops midair with my shoes and water inside. Nobody gets hurt, thank goodness, but it’s the kind of comical chaos you never forget and yes, it’s heading toward viral TikTok territory.

  • From there, I open up a Mindful Monday topic that’s been changing the way I talk to my husband: feminine energy and masculine energy, and the role validation plays in helping a woman feel safe and heard. I walk through what I learned from my daughter Brooklyn, her boyfriend AJ, and their therapist, then share a real example of how dismissiveness can sting when I’m dealing with autoimmune pain and oral lichen planus (OLP). The shift is simple but powerful: state the feeling clearly instead of only telling the story, then invite a validating response that meets the moment with empathy.

  • We also talk about what it’s like to retrain your brain later in life, especially after years of single motherhood, and how both partners can learn new patterns together. If you’ve ever wondered why one small comment can hit so hard, or how to ask for what you need without starting a fight, you’ll get practical language you can try right away.

Subscribe to the podcast, share it with a friend, and leave a rating or review so more listeners can find Mindful Mondays and Wisdom Wellness Wednesdays. What’s your Fourth of July tradition, and what does “validation” look like in your relationship?

Welcome And Mindful Monday

SPEAKER_01

What's up, party people? Welcome to another episode of LQate Your Life. I'm your hostess with the most S. L is in the letter L and key as in the key to your heart.

Fourth Of July Family Highlights

SPEAKER_01

Thank you for so much for tuning into this mindful Monday, July 6th. How was everyone's Independence Day? 4th of July. 250th anniversary of celebrating our freedom. Thank you to all that have served, continue to serve. It was a phenomenal event for my family and I. I had the pleasure of being with both my children who live in two different places. So, along with my husband, we had an incredible time the day before rafting on the American River. And then we went to the Alameda County Fair.

The Sky Ride Bag Drop

SPEAKER_01

You'll probably see the viral TikTok that's happening where we were on the sky ride and my son and daughter, Brooklyn and Branna, were in front of us. And as I'm recording this beautiful, peaceful, serene moment of looking around the park, going across the park on the sky ride, lo and behold, as I get their attention, or Mr. gets their attention, they drop their bag from the Skyride, which had my pair of shoes and a bottle of water. Thankfully, it didn't hit anybody. No one was injured during the filming of this. Uh, it was just one of those comical events that you won't forget. And as I said, the TikTok is going viral. So I'm thinking about posting it on the YouTube. We'll see.

Your Fourth Of July Traditions

SPEAKER_01

At any rate, I'm curious, what is everyone's tradition for Fourth of July? Do you go to family?

SPEAKER_00

Do you have barbecues? Do you what do you do? I would love to hear everyone's thoughts and opinions of if you have any family traditions.

SPEAKER_01

Generally, my husband has to decorate our place with all kinds of American flags and Fourth of July decor. And um, of course, when we go out on 4th of July, we're wearing red, white, and blue. And we had the pleasure of seeing the fireworks at the fair, which was really cool. We didn't get to do what I wanted to do, which was a caricature photo or a black and white photo. But what am I gonna do? Can't cry over spilled milk, right?

Feminine And Masculine Energy

SPEAKER_01

I am curious how everybody feels about this mindful Monday. If you have anything that you feel mindful about, well, I'll share with you something that I learned from my daughter Brooklyn, her boyfriend AJ, and they're a therapist, which is being in feminine energy and masculine energy. And one of the things I learned is if you want your man to be in the masculine energy and you want to stay in the feminine energy, did you know that it's the man's job to validate the woman so that she can be in her feminine energy and feel safe and heard? So something I learned from that therapy session is in speaking to my husband about something that I have to state my feelings, not just tell a story, but like, hey, mister, that really hurt my feelings when you didn't validate me regarding my autoimmune

Asking For Validation With OLP

SPEAKER_01

condition, my what's known as OLP. It really hurt my feelings when I told you I couldn't eat my breakfast taco because my mouth was hurting. And your response was, oh, can I have a bite of your taco? So instead of me like being mad, I'm supposed to communicate my feelings about it, that it hurt my feelings, that I felt unseen, unheard, dismissed, yada yada. And then his job as the man, of course, is to validate my feelings in that moment of I'm so sorry that you felt A, B, and C. I know that you suffer and you're in pain a lot of the time and can't eat, and that really sucks for you. And I'm sorry that that is the case. Anyway, just a little tidbit of something that I learned from their therapists that I thought I would pass along about being in your feminine energy, being in your masculine energy, how to go about doing those things. We,

Retraining Patterns Later In Life

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I myself am 57, going on 58, July 17th. And so I am having to teach myself these things. And it's definitely challenging because I was a single mom for so long that to now not be in that energy of being the mother and the father, or saying what I need, or telling my man what I need. Yeah, definitely having to retrain my brain. And so is my 62 going on 63-year-old husband. So I thought it was some, you know, valid, informative, mindful information that I should share with all of you.
