22: Millennial Mamas: Authentic Parenting & Mental Health

Episode 22

I feel so BLESSED to be surrounded by some AMAZING professionals/entrepreneurs who have so much knowledge on the chapter of motherhood, as I myself prepare for it! Lauren is another gem that I have had the pleasure of bonding with over the past 7 months and she is the proud owner of Millennial Mama Therapy! This episode is jam packed with some valuable information for future mom's, soon-to-be mom's, current mom's, seasoned moms, veteran mom's...you name it! We discuss the importance of finding support and connection, challenges of motherhood, postpartum anxiety/depression, resources and supports for moms. We explore the expectations faced by millennial moms during the transition to motherhood, the pressure that is put on moms, and the unrealistic standards set by social media. We debunk a few myths that are out there related to doing "all the things" as a mom. We describe the concept of matrescence, which is the identity shift that occurs when becoming a mother. There's some valuable reminders in this episode for moms that we all need to hear! Reminders like: there's no right or wrong way to be a mom, giving oneself grace, & being "good enough" versus perfect. I had so much fun recording this, despite mother nature's intervention initially! We powered through because my gut told me that Lauren's knowledge needed to be shared with my listeners!

Key Takeaways:

  • Lauren's business, Millennial Mama Therapy, focuses on supporting millennial moms and parent couples through the challenges of motherhood.
  • Both Stefanie and Lauren emphasize the importance of finding your niche and aligning your business with your authentic self.
  • Social media often sets unrealistic standards for motherhood, and it's crucial to debunk the myth of the perfect mom.
  • Holding space for new moms and providing support without judgment is essential during the transition to motherhood.
  • Matrescence is a significant identity shift that occurs when becoming a mother, and it takes time to adjust to this new role.
  • Hormones and anxiety play a significant role in the postpartum period, and it's important to seek support and practice self-compassion.
  • There is no right or wrong way to be a mom, and being a good enough parent is more than sufficient for your child's well-being.
  • Parents don't have to be perfect, but they should model imperfection and make repairs when they make mistakes.
  • It's important for millennial moms to hold space for themselves and celebrate their wins.
  • Self-judgment is common among moms, but it's important to realize that we are all doing the best we can.
