Should type 1 diabetes be renamed?

There seems to be some confusion. Friends, journalists, chatty strangers and even doctors confuse type 1 diabetes with type 2.
The results? At best, an annoying conversation. At worst, a dangerous misdiagnosis.
Could a new name be the answer? Or will renaming T1D simply reinforce the stigma around T2D?
