Welcome to Dad, bonds and Dumbbells.
Speaker 2:Guess what we are live and in person for the first time-ish ever, can you believe?
Speaker 1:it. Well, we'll see. We'll see if it comes out Well. Thanks for joining us. If you're on YouTube, make sure you smash that subscribe button you like it. Don't leave any negative comments or dirty pictures, Please, no.
Speaker 2:Do it? Come on, mitch likes that stuff. No, do it Come on. Yeah, mitch likes that stuff, no. Seriously, we've had a YouTube channel. We did a couple of interviews that were videos, but we've been mainly audio for a while here, so excited to get the video portion rocking and rolling here, absolutely. We also got a lot of big things going on, right now man so many different things.
Speaker 1:This is great, we have sponsors.
Speaker 2:We have a couple and, yeah, let me tell you about them.
Speaker 1:They're things that we personally love and are a part of affiliated with this show and why we're doing this, yeah, friends of the show, people that we love already, that are help, that are, uh, helping us reach our goals. So the first one is big boys, run tocom. If you are a big boy, little boy, a girl that likes to wear things, ironically, Check out tomboy.
Speaker 2:No, no.
Speaker 1:I mean tomboys are okay too. Come on, Bart, but go to bigboysrun2, T-O-Ocom and check out all the wear that you have for the winter and the summer.
Speaker 2:We have cool hats.
Speaker 1:We have great hats. We have the Austin Marathon coming. I will be sponsored by Big Boys Run 2, ie my company that I will be wearing all my Big Boys Run 2 stuff and attempting to drink as many drinks as possible during the marathon, again Trying to break my record from last year, so Big Boys drink too.
Speaker 1:Yes, most of us do at least Drink responsibly. Of course, we are also sponsored by SolutionsRx. Solutionsrx is your one-stop shop. It's here, local, but you can do it online as well. Solutionsrx you know I've been going through my own weight loss journey with semaglutide and trizepatide. I've been trying them all out and experimenting with my body and I've found a lot of special opportunities, especially with SolutionsRx. They have all the things you need with GLP-1 options like semaglutide, trizepatide, compound, GLP-1,. Have no idea what any of these things mean, but I do know that it's Well.
Speaker 2:Solutions is a compounding pharmacy, so they're able to create these, and not just in the shot where you put the shot into your belly fat.
Speaker 1:I do. I put it right here.
Speaker 2:Yeah Well, it's just the typical way, but they also now have a solution where you just drop it under your tongue.
Speaker 1:I've heard. Those are almost a little bit more effective as well.
Speaker 2:I guess the science is not quite as effective as the shot.
Speaker 1:It's 100% effective, but still very effective. Yes.
Speaker 2:So the shot is like the. That's why they created the shot, versus just how it made it oral was. It was probably slightly more effective, but still very effective, and for those you were a little nervous about needles might be the way to go. So the thing about solutions and james montgomery, good friend of mine, uh, there's a whole backstory to how I know james his sister introduced val and I the reason my wife and I are together is because I sat next to his sister on a plane coming from new york, Austin, and she's like you've got to meet my friend Val.
Speaker 1:That's cool. So you owe James everything.
Speaker 2:I owe the family everything.
Speaker 1:Yeah, got it the.
Speaker 2:Montgomery family, amazing family, and so anyway. So James has his pharmacy. It's great. What he's done is he's created a telehealth option where you can just go. So there's a link in our show notes. Go there, click on it, fill out the little form and then you're going to get access to um, basically a telehealth appointment for free.
Speaker 1:You don't have to pay for the appointment.
Speaker 2:They have a doctor there and if you basically fill a bunch of information and you answer a few questions and then you get approved right then and they literally get you the medication like ASAP. So whether it's, hair loss rectal dysfunction hair loss. Yeah, dude, I think all the solutions are I think he's putting a big focus on just like men's health. Yeah, you know, 40 plus like our demographic, and so that's why it's a perfect fit for dad bods and dumbbells.
Speaker 1:Perfect. Well, I love it. Well, thanks so much for in this SolutionsRx. I'm going to get all of my semi-glutide from you, as well as my supplements whatever hair loss I need at all.
Speaker 2:I've already reached out about the hair. Oh dude, it's so bad. Every time I take a video on the top of my head, Yours isn't as bad as mine, but it's hurting.
Speaker 1:Anyway, thank you, SolutionsRx. We are also sponsored by LiftBigEatBigcom, as you guys know. We are powerlifting. Now we are in this, we're going to be entering competitions and we need a plan, and James at Lift Big, eat Big is our man and he's going to help us out with that.
Speaker 2:So let me give you just a little quick synopsis here. So Lift Big, eat Big is the leading fitness brand helping people crush strength sports goals Overall, just like overhauling their whole physique with elite, effective training programs. Now he and his wife, mona and actually I've interviewed them for my podcast, the mindset forge, so you can go to my mindset forge podcast and listen to good interviews, uh, but they're, they've spent their entire career. He's from new zealand, she's from south africa.
Speaker 2:She was like an elite, uh, olympic weightlifter yeah and he's been in the rugby powerlifting all that kind of stuff, so he's the one who's going to train us. But also they have a whole program online that you can access for for work programs on like you know, developing your squat, your dead lift, building mass, all those types of things.
Speaker 2:it's fantastic and it's just so you go to live at. Lift big, eat bigcom. You can also find it in the show notes and they're willing to work with any type of athlete or person who just wants to get strong. So they've got a powerlifting block that we'll be using, but they've got a lot of other components and things that you can utilize Great.
Speaker 1:Check them out. We love it.
Speaker 2:My hope is that we have James on the podcast. Yeah absolutely James DeLacy of Lift Big, Eat Big. Maybe James Montgomery too.
Speaker 1:Ooh, that would be great. We're connecting with Jameses. Let's do it. What's going on with that? I'm all about the Jameses man, and we are also fueled by Devil's River.
Speaker 2:Whiskey, oh my God, out of San Antonio, 21 and over baby 21 and over, drink responsibly.
Speaker 1:If you haven't gotten your tickets yet to the Texas Whiskey Fest, go to TXWhiskeyFestcom. We'll have Devil's River and various other Texas whiskeys all throughout the night. It's a great time. It's April 12th.
Speaker 2:Enjoy that Very smooth, by the way. Very smooth, very good.
Speaker 1:Out of San Antonio Check it out. Thank you, guys. So much for sponsoring. Let's get on with the show man.
Speaker 2:Rock and roll.
Speaker 1:How about that Super Bowl?
Speaker 2:Didn't happen yet, buddy.
Speaker 1:I know, I know it's coming up. How about that?
Speaker 2:Super Bowl matchup. I don't know. I don't even know if I'm going to watch it. I'm still waiting to get invited to a Super Bowl party. Nobody invites me because they all know that I don't like football. So I and I'm always a little sad I gotta say have you ever been to a Super Bowl party?
Speaker 1:I have, back in the day when I cared. Wait, when was the last time you were invited to a Super Bowl party? It's been a while. I don't Really.
Speaker 2:I don't know the last time.
Speaker 1:This is sad.
Speaker 2:It's a little sad, guys, it's very sad.
Speaker 1:Well.
Speaker 2:This is coming out on Thursday Before the Super Bowl. So you, you know, guys, throw me a bone. I might just put my phone number in the show notes.
Speaker 1:You're like text me, text Bart, give him a Super Bowl party. Let me know. If there's a Super Bowl party, I would invite you to my Super Bowl party, but I'm not having one. I get invited to Super Bowl parties, bro, I'm not a big loser.
Speaker 2:Literally. You know NBA finals game seven. You know I'm getting invited to that party into that part, yeah absolutely. But yeah, the people just know like that's not my jammy jam and they don't want to hear me talk about like what's football, is that any good? Or like they don't want to feel guilty eating like gorging in wings and queso. Don't invite the trainer to the fat fest. Yes, the fat fest, the Super Bowl extravaganza, I mean the Super Bowl. Yes.
Speaker 1:So it's the Eagles and Chiefs that, just to give you some information about who's playing the Super Bowl, I'll give you a little bit Patrick Mahomes against. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. It's Philly, the Eagles versus the Chiefs again. Blah, they're going for a three Pete.
Speaker 2:The Chiefs are, and I can tell you right now that I've never rooted for Philadelphia ever except for this Super Bowl. So how does Taylor Swift help the Chiefs win? That's all I want to figure out here.
Speaker 1:How can she help them win? I mean, I'm a huge Tay-Tay fan. You know that, are you? Yeah, you're a Swifty.
Speaker 2:Yes, adorable.
Speaker 1:Well, I'm not like a Swifty Swifty, like I'm not going to pay $15,000 for a ticket.
Speaker 2:Okay, you I like her.
Speaker 1:She's pretty great. I love that she's created such a huge brand and she's a billionaire now just because of her music Like awesome, right. So all that to say, I hope that the Chiefs lose horribly, even though I have many friends that are Chiefs fans, because I don't want the 3P. I'm tired of them, like get out. I'm tired of all the commercials.
Speaker 2:I'm just sick of it part I'm, you know what I don't want.
Speaker 1:What.
Speaker 2:Is when Patrick Mahomes, if he wins, then it's like who's the GOAT? And it's going to be like Patrick.
Speaker 1:Mahomes. Oh, Tom Brady. And then they're going to throw LeBron James and Michael.
Speaker 2:Jordan and it's like the GOAT of the GOATs, like who's the GOAT of the GOATs?
Speaker 1:I think I'm done with talk sports. It's brutal.
Speaker 2:It's brutal. So, anyway, it's this Sunday and my prediction is the Chiefs are going to win, even though I don't want them to. Here's what I don't understand how the Super Bowl is like four and a half hours long.
Speaker 1:It's commercialized right. It's unacceptable. And then the halftime show is like 45 minutes long. It's unacceptable. Kendrick Lamar is going to.
Speaker 2:Is it Kendrick Lamar? Yeah, dude, I hope he does his thing.
Speaker 1:Oh, he has to. It won every Grammy. It's not like us. He swept the Grammys, man, it's like a Grammy diss track of Drake, you know. So ultimately, I think when we look at it, it's long, it's boring and it's annoying. Liking the teams that are on the Super Bowl, because typically if you go to any parties, it's always like, oh, that commercial, turn up the commercials. And it's like listen, if you really like the football teams, just sit in your home and watch it by yourself.
Speaker 2:So next time the packers are in the super bowl, I will be like you, at my home, all by myself greatest, the greatest rap line in of this century, well, let's say of this decade, since the is trying to strike a chord and it's probably a minor.
Speaker 2:A minor have to know that, if you have to know enough about music to know that a chord and it's probably a minor, because you have to know that, if you have to know enough about music to know that a chord, like on a piano chord, there's a major and there's a minor, which is the three three key chord but it's also in reference to the facts that he's a pedo, yeah, and so like that, right there, it's like, okay, you know how long it took me to get it like to figure it out.
Speaker 2:Duality yeah, it took me forever the first time I heard it I was like a minor. Oh, because drake has that kind of like yeah, whatever you know like a lame, but it wasn't, it wasn't, it was. Yeah, it was good anyway all right.
Speaker 1:That to say, my super bowl prediction is the chiefs by 10, and I have to say that I don't want that to happen. I want saquon to run all over him and that's that's that.
Speaker 2:Okay, my Superbowl prediction is that I don't get invited to a party. I end up like kind of watching it at home. But my, my son gets bored and then wants to like play football out back, and then we ended up just like throwing the football around and have a much better time than watching the football the Superbowl.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:That's my thought.
Speaker 1:Aw, that's a good one, but I don't gain 12 pounds sitting at a party eating Cheetos. Well, I'll just do an extra needle, syringe full of semi-glutide that I'll throw up if I eat too much.
Speaker 2:Speaking of which check out Solutions Rx.
Speaker 1:Check out Solutions Rx. So yeah, so Super Bowl's coming Chiefs are going to win. It's going to suck Three-peat. Here's an interesting fact about a three-peat Okay, Pat Riley, when the Lakers were going for the three-peat.
Speaker 1:in the 80s he trademarked the term three-peat, yeah. So the NFL has already struck a deal with them so they can use three-peat in all of their official merch. All that to be said, that is why the NFL is scripted, because that is why the NFL is scripted, because they've already secured a deal. So they're saying the Chiefs are going to win, the refs are on their side. Anyway, hats off to Pat Riley.
Speaker 2:Yeah, well, he's getting kind of. I mean, there's obviously the Luka Doncic conversation which needs to happen, but there's also the Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah.
Speaker 2:Jimmy Butler has refused to play for Pat Riley in the Miami Heat.
Speaker 1:This is the second time he's done it.
Speaker 2:He did this for the Bulls too. He's willing to go and sign an extension. He is the Suns, but the only way the Suns could do the deal is if Bradley Beal waves his no trade clause, which he will not do. Oh yeah, and so now they're looking at trading Kevin Durant back to the Warriors.
Speaker 1:What I didn't know. Any of this was happening. This is crazy town.
Speaker 2:They're trying to.
Speaker 1:And they got to do it all by Thursday, right, when this comes out.
Speaker 2:By Thursday. Here's the problem. Durant now knows that the Suns are trying to trade him to the Warriors, so now you think he's loyal to them.
Speaker 1:He's like you can't pull this on, Luka, and now you're trying to. They're just $100 million. Babies, you play a sport, guys, get over yourself. But Jimmy Butler, I've always enjoyed play, but man, he is a cancer in the flipping.
Speaker 2:He's great when things are great. Whatever you call it, dugout, when things go bad it's like the locker room.
Speaker 1:that's what it is. Sorry, yeah but Luka Doncic coming from the Mavs, there was not a single person.
Speaker 2:Not one person knew that was happening, except the two people Rob Palenka and Nico Erickson. What an idiot Nico is.
Speaker 1:He's going to go down in history as one of the worst GMs, but here's the thing Worst trade ever. Here's the thing.
Speaker 2:Yes, he could have done it differently. He could have put it out there and got a big slew of cash or of three first-round picks.
Speaker 1:probably you can't get that from the Lakers.
Speaker 2:The Lakers aren't going to give you that. So if you want Anthony Davis, who is in his probably best season in a long time, as like, the number one. He was the number one option for the Lakers and he was, you know, I mean the first 15 games of the season. It was like 30-20 every game. So you're betting on he's not going to get injured as much. He's in the prime of his career. He just came off the Olympics. You know where he was better than Joel Embiid.
Speaker 2:Well, joel yeah, but I mean, you know what I mean, Like he was.
Speaker 1:He did look good in the Olympics yeah.
Speaker 2:So, like again, there's a lot. If AD does AD things and doesn't get injured, you're sitting back going. Brett, great decision. We are defense-oriented. We are dominating in the playoffs because we have a defense-minded team, because Max Christie also a great defender. And then they just traded for another guy, caleb Martin, who's coming in as another defensive.
Speaker 1:So you think it's like they're going back to the finals type vibes?
Speaker 2:because of it, everyone wants to win the trade. Now, no one's gonna know right. What could happen is next year the mavericks could win the whole thing and everyone's like mavericks won the trade lakers, or you know. And then the next three years, luca don just takes the lakers to three feet and then five years down the road you're like oh well, I don't know who won that, but again, this is just how you have to play the game. You know, this is how you have to.
Speaker 1:Now I mean, there's stuff You've got to be happy about it though, right, absolutely.
Speaker 2:All of a sudden. I mean more eyes on the Lakers.
Speaker 1:Luca lost $115 million because he doesn't get the.
Speaker 2:Supermat. You know how much money he's going to make in endorsement deals across the world, being a Laker, I mean.
Speaker 1:The other thing, though, is too, it's all about state tax.
Speaker 2:He lost a lot.
Speaker 1:He goes from $0 state tax in Texas to 14% state tax in California. But it is the Lakers, it's different. It's a different market. As much as the Mavs are awesome in Texas, they're a regional team, they're like OKC type thing. So yeah, it's a big move for him and I've always liked Luca.
Speaker 2:Uh, he whines a little bit but like he's, he's fun to watch man, but that's also coming out of the European League like that's a, there's a, there's a big like showmanship to like to, like you know, yelling at the refs or complaining, you know. I kind of like it's part of the showmanship.
Speaker 1:He probably grew up watching D Wade and LeBron do that on the heat and be like well, that's obviously what I'm supposed to do, but he gets to play with LeBron. That's pretty cool Anyway.
Speaker 2:I'm a Lakers fan. I'm down. I'm excited Lakers have been playing amazing.
Speaker 1:They looked pretty good. They beat the.
Speaker 2:Knicks the night of the trade and then last night they beat the Clippers by like 20 oh yeah, it was why brought he went in.
Speaker 1:He's just like it's so wild in Madison.
Speaker 2:Square Garden. They're chanting like put Ronnie in, so what?
Speaker 1:so how does he? Because he was in the D League yeah, did he heard the G League?
Speaker 2:he goes back and forth. So okay, yeah, it's not similar to the minor leagues.
Speaker 1:Right, you can kind of you can.
Speaker 2:How does he? Because he was in the D League, yeah, or the G League. He goes back and forth. Okay, similar to the minor leagues. Then Right, you can play some games in the G League and then come up and sit on the bench and be put in, and that happens a lot. It's all about how much you're only allowed to play, or have a certain amount of people dress, yeah, so a lot of it has to do with, like, who's healthy, who's injured? Yeah, you know, if, like Christian Wood comes back and off, the injury reserve, lift and that might, like bump him back to G-League for a while. You know, it's all about that type of stuff. That's cool. All right, let's get into some nuts and bolts.
Speaker 1:Dude powerlifting's back. I've been lifting.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 1:So let's talk about where we're at.
Speaker 2:This is the meat and potatoes of this podcast here. So again, you don't have to be into powerlifting. We're just going down this road this year because you know, I've been obviously a trainer but I kind of enjoy the bodybuilding style workouts which is more of like an 8 to 15 rep range and like more form and like angles and and in volume and super sets and things like that.
Speaker 2:Uh, and then just you and I've been just enjoying this idea, like let's just get super strong yeah I mean and it's interesting because, like the strength that it takes to lift heavy weight also does build muscle I mean you're not. You're not gonna go from a 250 bench press to a 300 bench press without building muscle to do it for sure. So I mean, you're not, you're not gonna go from a 250 bench press to a 300 bench press without building muscle? Yeah, for sure. So I mean you're gonna get you're gonna get some.
Speaker 2:You know you're gonna get some of the same benefits of doing power lifting then, but it's just fun too, because we're learning a skill yeah, there's a skill to bench press, there's a skill to deadlift and squat and so all those things play.
Speaker 2:And that's where james delacy comes in. You know, I've always known he's, he's the guy, or you know there's a lot of guys that know what they're doing. But that guy can trust or write us a program and we can implement it for the next five, six months, yeah, and then find a body or find a powerlifting show in, you know, may, june, july and, and you know, sign up and go see what we got. Dude, I love I love it.
Speaker 1:You know, start with the idea.
Speaker 2:I'm excited, dude, I want to do it right now, dude, it would be fun.
Speaker 1:Dude, I get. So what I've noticed is I know you were saying the last couple weeks ago you were like man, I just feel so like not cut. You know you feel all bulky and stuff. Are you feeling any less like? Are you feeling lean still?
Speaker 2:You know what's crazy? My weight's been ticking up slow 225, 226. A couple days ago, 227. And then yesterday, 222. And I'm like that's weird, maybe I'm just dehydrated. Today, 222. I'm like where did the five pounds go? Was I walking around constipated?
Speaker 1:And finally got it all out Just dropped five pounds in the toilet. What the? It was just bizarre. What do you think it was?
Speaker 2:I don't know I mean that's the thing about being over 200 pounds. It's like five pounds is what I mean. It 200 pounds is like five pounds is is what I mean. It's two percent of your body weight, so like you know body, just the fluctuations of water and and like what you have stuck in your you know gut how much you ate yeah you know, just if you overeat some of your weight in the next morning is just the fact that you have more food in you yeah, you know, a pound of extra food, you know.
Speaker 2:So I don't know, I've I mean, I I've been eating well, so maybe some of that I it doesn't really matter what it is, it's you know, but I'm not like as lean as I was three or four months ago, but I don't care, I like a different style.
Speaker 1:I feel strong. Yeah, strong, I don't.
Speaker 2:It's a good feeling I'm not achy, yeah, you know. I just I feel like, uh, you know, and I haven't even started. I mean, james is working up the program right now yeah. He's going to get it to me this weekend, so I'm just kind of deloading this week just to not overdo it. So when we kick off the program it's like okay, my body's fresh. Yeah for sure.
Speaker 1:Well, I think I'm excited about I've always responded really well to lifting heavy weights.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:And so I think this might be something that I'm actually going to probably not excel in, but like enjoy.
Speaker 2:I absolutely agree with that, Because I've already noticed.
Speaker 1:I have to get an extra plate now. I got to get extra plates for it.
Speaker 2:Because we have 330 pounds.
Speaker 1:That's not enough In my gym.
Speaker 2:You'll warm up with it.
Speaker 1:And I was repping it the last, like for the squat and for the deadlift, and I hardly ever squatted I always was a bench press guy, yeah, or deadlift too, and so like there's a few things though that I'm noticing that are really gonna probably get me into trouble. It's technique, um, you know my wife is, is really good at deadlifting and like the the legs portion, so she watches that pretty heavy for me. But I'm a little worried, like when you I was doing the Ohio state strength program which, by the way, I do want to formally apologize I was told by a few listeners that I was a little harsh, uh, about Ohio state and their fans, and so what I want to say is I, if I offended anybody, I apologize, um, with the exception of Ohio state fans.
Speaker 1:With the exception of Ohio State fans.
Speaker 2:So we're doing this. Ever since I found the Ohio State Buckeyes strength matrix, I have a new appreciation for Ohio State football.
Speaker 1:I'm like no wonder these guys are so good. It's the same thing as the Nebraska pyramid. It's literally the same thing I did. It may actually be.
Speaker 2:You probably started one place and then that strength and condition coach moved like, got transferred over to, like got hired by Ohio.
Speaker 1:I'll tell you what's different, because they do three one reps. You know, one rep of three.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no wait. Three reps of one, no, three sets of one rep, yes, yeah, and in the, in the. Nebraska.
Speaker 1:Nebraska when you were doing like three, two and then you do one rep of one, yeah, and then you go back to five. So what?
Speaker 1:I like about it is it does force you to hit heavyweight multiple reps, so you're getting used to or at least what I'll experience is I can move up in weight as we go. So when we do the competition, we'll be like, okay, I'll see how 350 feels, and if I can do that, great. Do the competition and be like, okay, I'll see how three 50 feels, and if I can do that, great. And then I can go to three 55 and three 60. Or the fact is I can always know, oh, I can do three 30. No problem, cause I was repping it out. So I know that I, when we're doing our thousand pound power lift thing, I know, okay, I got three, three 30 is already locked in. So now I got to get a three 50 deadlift, you know three 30 squat or whatever it is. So that's cool.
Speaker 2:It's helping with endurance, definitely of the muscles, fatigue, because typically I'll I'll run out pretty fast, I'll come out strong, and so it's helping with that for sure, and I also like that, like when you, whatever the weight that you're going up to for one rep, you have to do it three times, so a can't be your max.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Because you're not going to get your max three sets in a row. So that's one thing. So it keeps you just under your max.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:But it also trains kind of like the first time you do a new number, even if it's not your true, true max, it's still the most you've ever lifted, or most you've lifted lately, yeah. And so you get it the first round and you're like, oh, I can do that again. You do it again and the second. For me the second set is usually the best, Like cause, I'm, I'm, I. The first set went well.
Speaker 1:Yeah, there's a confidence. Yeah.
Speaker 2:You're like you know, yeah, and then incrementally just moving up from there I, I like it, and you, you.
Speaker 1:Every time I text you I'm like oh, I breezed through that. You're like stop doing less. So I started like the the max of the 330. It's like, okay, I can do 330. And I breezed through it and I didn't fail at any rep. Actually, there was no point where I was like struggling. Yeah, and you're like, and you finally sent it to me. It's like start at 360. You have to, like, you gotta fail at some point, otherwise you're just breezing through it. So now I'm at the 350 to 355 range for squat and deadlift right, I mean that's.
Speaker 2:That's the hard thing. You don't want to.
Speaker 2:You want to overestimate your max and then like, and then you fail in the first week trying it like you kind of want to give yourself a buffer because you're not going to move up five pounds every week. That's not. I mean, even if you're on just a ass ton of steroids you wouldn't get. I mean maybe you would, but like you know, there's, there's a lot of reasons why you as a natural lifter are not going to be able to put on like actual five pounds of strength every week. Now you can adapt slowly with five pound increments to get closer and closer to your one rep, like true run, one rep max, and in the process get stronger and maybe add five pounds over the course of four to six weeks.
Speaker 2:That's so you're better off like just you know, versus like rushing too fast, getting too heavy and then all of a sudden you're either hurt or you're not getting your reps.
Speaker 1:So what's the rule of thumb? So I did the three 50, three 55 full through. Yeah, so does that mean, I can bench three 55?
Speaker 2:That's the estimate.
Speaker 1:yeah, Because the top number is probably 340 or 335. Yeah.
Speaker 2:So, yeah, it's like a 92% to 95% of your true max.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I think I repped the one reps for 310 for the bench it was 310. 310, 310, 310, and I breezed through it.
Speaker 1:The last one I was like eh, but it's fine, my shoulder hurt a little bit. The last one I was like, but it's fine, my shoulder hurt a little bit. But so I mean I'll probably go to the three 50 side just to check that out, and then I'll be benching three thirties and then I need to get another plate, like you said. So we'll see how that goes. But I'm excited about it, man, I think. I think it's going to be fun to see what we do. It'll be fun to be a part of competition environment again, Like it's like you never like.
Speaker 2:But well, and that's the thing. It's like you're doing all this stuff just in your garage, like maybe with your wife watching, or something like that. It's a different deal when you've got judges, people on both sides.
Speaker 2:You imagine like a squat, well, one rep and you're putting on 385 and you've never done the weight before and you got your shoes, your you've got your belt on and all that and you're just like, and the whole world is like this moment right now and it's like you know the adrenaline and that's going to be the difference. That's why, that's why I project those, those projected one rep maxes are higher than what you, what you can. I mean. I've done 250 for sets of one, one one. I haven't gone beyond that yet, but I'm sure in the moment of a competition I could push 265, 270. Right now I would imagine.
Speaker 1:Dude, yeah, you could do more than that. I don't know. I think you're underestimated. The bench is kind of how I feel like my deadlift is going. I'm looking at you like bro, you could push three bills easy right now. What are you doing? It's just like so slow, Like you pause, and you're like you scratch your nose halfway through the rep.
Speaker 2:Well, that's, that's part of it, because, because I've had shoulder issues in the past, I'm just not willing. I don't want to go fast, I don't want to bounce Like I want. I want everything that I earn to be earned, because you know in a bench press comp, in a powerlifting competition, you gotta bring it down, pause and you get the okay to go.
Speaker 1:Really, yeah, you're not just oh dude, I need to know that yeah, that's why.
Speaker 2:Well, that's why we're going to a powerlifting competition this weekend oh yeah so saturday in dripping springs at a at a local gym they're doing a like a small powerlifting competition so we'll be able to watch. You know people compete, learn some of the. You know some of the rules and like what techniques people are using but just implementing like, uh, leg drive. You know. Position of the shoulders like I was watching a video.
Speaker 2:I'm from a french, you know like powerlifting champion, just talking about like I should probably watch your video and all this stuff, all those little pieces are like a you know, a couple pounds here, a couple pounds there, like a little bit more uh, that you can, you know, be able to access for that, for that lift, and so all those things matter. I mean, last time I was doing the, the matrix with deadlifts, and it said, you know, I was like two at 380, 385, 390, and then my third set of 390 for one, I just did two and I'm like, oh okay, I just did two.
Speaker 1:That's what I'm supposed to do for one.
Speaker 2:So the next week I did 395 for two and I'm like, okay, well, if I can do 395 or two in the gym with no energy other than just me working out, then I could probably pull through 420. Yeah 425.
Speaker 1:So did you try.
Speaker 2:No, it's not worth it. That's the thing, like it's not worth. So what are?
Speaker 1:we going to actually max out and see where we're at? Are we going to have a special pod for that?
Speaker 2:I mean, I'm going to talk to. I'll talk to James about what his thoughts are. Oh yeah, we got a trainer and like the point, the whole point of this is that, like you know you're, it's, it's the way from what I understand about strength training and powerlifting training it's like you never there's only so many times you can go absolutely balls to the wall as hard as possible. You know it's. You know you can't it. You can't train for an MMA fight by just fighting as hard as you can that's what Sean Strickland does.
Speaker 1:He only spars.
Speaker 2:But sparring is not champion of the UFC. My point is just that he's not going into the ring every day with somebody who wants to kill him and goes to like five rounds to see who dies first. Right, like he's, he's sparring with top guys, you know. But there is a certain element of like practice to it. Right, the same thing goes with like its technique. There's ways to like, you know. I'm sure that I've seen people deadlift where they stop halfway, like right at the shins, and then keep going. So it's like a half point pause to like, develop more like, so that as you're pulling up you have to stop and then keep going yeah so it develops more like drive from the upper part of your deadlift.
Speaker 2:I mean, there's a lot of stuff that I have no idea about, which is why I'm loving it, because I think for me as a trainer and as somebody who's been lifting for a good amount, of years you get a little stagnant.
Speaker 2:It's like the same kind of stuff. This is like a whole different world that I don't know anything about and I've never really been that strong. I mean I was 19 or 20. I think I benched 255 for six. That was pretty good you could have benched three. Yeah, and the crazy thing is, I remember I never maxed out.
Speaker 1:Huh.
Speaker 2:I was always like six Were you afraid of it? No, it was. I was a body, I was. I was training for bodybuilding. So I was like I was always in the in the like the bodybuilding you know world of like six to 12 reps Right, like, so it never occurred to me like shit, I just did you know 255 for six.
Speaker 2:Why don't I just throw on three plates and see if I could do it? Never, never occurred to me. But anyway, my point being is just that this is a new world, this is a new type of training, yeah, and I love it because a I'm learning and I'm just I'm super excited about it. But also I'm gonna be able to translate that to some of my clients, yeah, who want to get stronger, and I'm will be able to translate that to some of my clients who want to get stronger and I'm we'll be able to kind of just provide more value to them.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I think it's cool and I'm excited to be a part of it because I think it's something that I could excel in. I think I'm going. I'm a lot stronger than I ever thought. I've always thought I was strong, but it's the first time in my life that I think I can get 400 at one of those spots, like a 400 bench. I mean, that was never. That was always the fat guys that could do that. Like. I'm really starting to think. Like I think if I put my mind to it, barring any injuries, yeah, I could probably get to four bills by the end of the year. So there you go, there you go. I think it's awesome. Well, I'm appreciative of of you pushing me to do something I want to do but also get out of our comfort zone.
Speaker 1:I'm looking forward to the power lifting competition on Saturday to see what it's all about. I'm looking forward to James DeLacy and his program, and then I'm also excited about jabbing my stomach full of more semi-glutide from SolutionsRx.
Speaker 2:Perfect.
