Welcome Back And New Year Vibes

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to Dad Bods and Dumbbells. My name is Mitch.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, I'm Bart.

SPEAKER_00

Thanks so much for listening, liking, subscribing, and sharing. We are back, baby.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, we are. Oh my gosh. 2026.

SPEAKER_00

2026. Who would have thought I would have made it this far, babe?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I knew it. You're a rock star. You're indestructible.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, Royers usually don't last past their 40s, but here I am, 41, fresh, new, ready to go with my boy, Bart.

SPEAKER_02

There we go. Yeah, I've been waiting for this. This has been exciting. We've been kind of waiting, you know, get letting the holidays happen, getting the, you know, focusing on family and all that kind of stuff. And then uh, you know, New Year's rolled around, and Mitch and I are like getting our schedules together, and like when are we kicking this thing back off? And here we are.

SPEAKER_00

It's like the holiday hangover where you're just fat and happy, full of food and treats, and you wake up January 2nd, and you're like, oh shoot, like all the stuff that I've pushed off for the new, oh, I'll get it next year, you know, 2026. I'll circle back after the holidays. I was like, oh crap, Bart's whipping me into gear. Yeah, it's time to go, boy.

College Football Reactions And Rivalries

SPEAKER_02

I I like giving the new year a week and a half to kind of marinate a little bit before I start like making all these declarations about how the year is gonna go, you know, because I think we can get a little grandiose, like January 2nd. Yeah, you know, post-hangover grandioseness. Yeah, well, hey, uh, we're gonna go into a lot of cool stuff today. Obviously, thinking about the new year and new goals and what we got on our plates. Uh, we're also gonna we want to introduce a new wellness uh company that we are uh that's sponsoring our show. It's our new wellness provider. And so super excited about that. So we're gonna talk about that in just a little bit too. Uh, but let's uh let's talk a wee bit about college football. Of course. I know everyone's wondering what Mitch thinks about uh Oregon lost horribly. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But good news are from Indiana. I am an Indiana graduate, so I win no matter what. Now, obviously, I wanted Oregon to win. I wasn't conflicted at all. I said, Oregon needs to win this game. I want a natty, all that good stuff, because I think we could beat Miami, but then Indiana came in and it was like watching last year when Ohio State just boat raced.

SPEAKER_02

I felt like this is what would be this is what it looked like if a professional football team played a college football team. That's exactly what it looked like. Dude, like just seemed to see every read and hit every pass. And I'm like, oh, that's what a good quarterback looks like when they're like not just hitting the the getting the pass right, but putting it in the like left shoulder to like make it as far away from the defense as possible.

SPEAKER_00

Mendoza is a freaking rock star. Dante Moore looked like an amateur. I love you, Dante, but like go to the NFL, earn your millions, even though you got probably gonna get paid more at Oregon than you've got you're gonna get in the NFL. But the first play of the game, oh, pick six pick six.

SPEAKER_02

Oh god.

SPEAKER_00

And when he did that, I I saw the pass, and I'm he about before he passed it. I could I could tell he didn't look. Like it was one of those things he had already decided he was gonna throw that ball, right? And I said, No, no, no, no, no. Oh, it's over.

SPEAKER_02

What if I wish we could have the video of Mitch like screaming at the TV? No, no, no, no, no. Like, because once that play happened, I knew uh like this game.

SPEAKER_00

So, funny story. So that first half was horrible. I went upstairs and I changed into all my Indiana gear, and I sat in the chair and I was like, all right, let's go, let's go booster. I've given them money. You know, I always hate college football fans that actually didn't go to those colleges, they're just fans of them. So the fact is, I needed to do this anyway.

SPEAKER_02

I thought about this. I thought, what if Cal State University at Northridge, the matadors, played the UT Longhorns and somehow beat them? That would be amazing. At halftime, I would definitely go grab some C Sun paraphernalia from my from my trunk in the in the back gear in the garage and put it on, be like, what's up?

SPEAKER_00

What's up, UT babe? And my wife was charting for work, and so she really wasn't paying any attention. She was watching the game with me, whatever, and she texted me. I'm so sorry, babe. And I said, What do you mean? We're winning. And she looked up and she saw me in all my Indiana gear. It was actually pretty hilarious. Unbelievable. Uh, yeah. So I'm excited for the Hoosiers. It's it who would have ever imagined, not me. Not I have friends that played for Indiana football, and they're just like truly just beyond belief. Nothing we could have ever imagined. Successful year. I don't care if we win or lose, we're gonna win now. So I say we because I did pay money to go to the school. So I'm wearing my Indiana hat right now.

SPEAKER_02

Currently, you can't see it, but he's got his Indiana hat on right now. I got my Indiana underwear on. No sign of any green duck colors.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, I love my ducks.

SPEAKER_02

I love my ducks. But that all that all that's been tucked away in the bottom drawer.

SPEAKER_00

But go who's yours, you know?

SPEAKER_02

Well, hey, uh next you know, Monday is the championship game. Yeah, Miami is gonna have to pull a you know, incredible, like everything's gotta go right.

SPEAKER_00

Indiana's favored by eight and a half. Yeah, they're looking to just boat race him. So that's what's gonna happen.

SPEAKER_02

And Arch Manning is still the best quarterback in the country. Is that what they're I guess? Some some like pundit on like ES Bam was saying he would go number one in the draft. Like still.

SPEAKER_00

Mendoza's going number one of the Raiders, which is crazy. Because who wants to play with the biggest?

SPEAKER_02

I thought he was staying another year.

SPEAKER_00

No, he's gotta go. He can't stay around.

SPEAKER_02

No, I think Beck is going. I don't think I think Mendoza's got one more year, and his brother is a true freshman, and he'll he'll be ready when his when yeah, look into that.

SPEAKER_00

I know he's got one more year of eligibility. It's just determining whether he wants to or not. Yeah, yeah. Like that, that'll be another talk. Maybe they're just saying that right now. He's going number one overall. So, like, it's do you want to be drawn? Arch is gonna come the next year. So, like, now's your time. Like, get your money, get your bag, win the national title, win your Heisman, and have fun. Yeah, like that's kind of how it is. He's built to be a quarterback, and he's gonna be a great quarterback in the NFL. That's just how it is. Go and Dante Moore is gonna be a great quarterback in the NFL as well. Awesome. Let's go, Ducks.

Season Tickets, Schedules, And Fan Life

SPEAKER_02

Well, that was your college football five-minute minute. We love it, we love it. Six minute. Um definitely excited about next year. Uh, you know, it's always so funny. It's like you think about like fake news on social media, and it's like, I get so many things about the Longhorns had the worst portal, like and then the next thing says the Longhorns have won the portal. Greatest portal experience. Like, you know, it's like I can't figure out if we're doing well or not. But you know.

SPEAKER_00

Well, what are you gonna keep your season tickets? Oh, everybody wants to know. Yeah, yeah. Did you like make money this year? Uh by selling? Well, we broke even. Nice. That's all you can ask for.

SPEAKER_02

Well, they got we got Oregon, we got oh, sorry, Ohio State, second game of the season. Nice. And we got Florida, and we got um who is the oh old miss at home and LSU at home. Oh boy, so there's some there's gonna be some great home games. So we'll we'll figure all that out. But anyway, yeah, we've already sign up for the Longhorn Foundation and put some put a little uh donation in to like be eligible. This is the whole process. So that process has started.

Introducing Optimize: Our New Sponsor

SPEAKER_00

Sounds good. I love it. Well, let's talk a little bit about our new sponsor, man. I'm excited.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. Um, so this is this is cool because uh a friend of mine is uh an investor in this company, and I've met I've met with the owners and and really interesting guys. Uh, but they've been they've been in the kind of peptide space for a long time, and they just really, you know, there's so many weird things about peptides because peptides, most people that are taking peptides or getting them online, even people that go to concierge, listen to this concierge doctors, the concierge doctors get their peptides from research pharmacy websites. It's wild. And they have to they they literally sign like a document that says we understand these are research. So the doctor is prescribing them research peptides. So all that stuff is just it's crazy. You don't you gotta mix your own you know solution and all this kind of thing? With your BAC water, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a cluster. So anyway, these guys are like, let's let's make this the the best possible experience. So it's called Optimize. Nice. And uh, you know, they're out of Austin here and it's Texas wide, but it's like they they've got they've got uh peptides for obviously like GLP1 peptides and things like that for weight loss, for recovery, for all the typical stuff you've heard about, like uh BPC 157 and that kind of stuff. But they've also um they've got bundled peptides for like specifically for weight loss and but but not losing your muscle and things like that. They've got things that are gonna help with just like fertility and and all this stuff. So very extensive, incredible like staff, doctor, nurse, the people that take you through it. So we're really excited about this because we loved solutions, but they really had a very limited capacity to what they could do. And this really opens up our listeners and ourselves to really the full gamut of peptides.

SPEAKER_00

So well, I love it because I I think what the way you were describing it and the way I've learned is they fit your uh your batch for you. So whatever you're trying, your goals that you're trying to be, instead of just taking, oh, I'm gonna take this peptide because my shoulder hurts, I'm gonna take this. No, it is overarching health and and performance.

Peptides 101 And Personalized Bundles

SPEAKER_02

So it's called so optimize health and performance. Um you do a comprehensive blood test first. Everything is looked at from from through a doctor, like you, you know, so you set up these like um calls with them and get everything squared away, and then they recommend based on what your blood work is, what your goals are, things like that. Peptide or or HRT kind of bundles, things like that. So, anyway, here's the cool news too. Because they have they've asked us to be one of their uh you know, to speak about them. And so anybody who comes uses the website link that's below, uh, put dad bods and dumbbells, you're gonna get$50 off uh every month. So every month that you use the product, you get a$50 discount on forever. Literally, that's right. Every single month. So, you know, and that tends to be what people do is they you know, they find a couple of peptides or a kind of a melange of peptides that are gonna like that make them feel stronger, better, healthier, recover better, all that kind of stuff. And then they kind of like that becomes their their uh their thing. That's cool. So yeah. Uh and you're you're still what what do you what are you doing right now currently just in the in the house?

Recomp Goals, Training, And Marathon Prep

SPEAKER_00

So thank you for asking. So this gets us right into new new year, new us. All right, right? Uh optimize, I'm super excited about them because there are things I want to explore. You know, I have chronic shoulder pain, I do have uh partial meniscus tear. There's a lot of things that kind of go with not from soccer, by the way, which are the season's starting, uh, but I'm doing what we call it's called Reditrutide. And it's designed for bodybuilders because it's it's one of those GLP ones or whatever you call them. I I'm so bad at this. You you just correct me if I'm wrong. Uh the retitrutide is designed to not attack your muscle, but attack the fat cells. And so what I've not seen is a huge shift in my weight, but I've seen a different shift in my body form. So my pecs are formed better. My I'm starting to start seeing like arms and like triceps, and I weigh the same. I weigh 227, and eventually it'll go down because it'll if I what I've heard is you take it more, you'll you'll start building up uh it'll it'll it'll constantly help you. So I've been lifting heavy, but still running some because I I do have the Austin Marathon coming up. So like I've been focused heavy on weight training, and what I've seen are pretty cool changes in how my body type is. I feel less skinny fat, and you know, I can't be mad about it. I'm looking forward to the summer for the first time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and that really goes into the what they call a recomp peptide bundle. Like you were looking for re like not just weight loss, but recomping your body, like building muscle, keeping muscle, losing this, the not just the body fat, but also the visceral fat and all that kind of stuff. Yeah. And so these peptides, and remember, peptides are just like little kind of little uh programs in our body. Yeah. Like that live kind of in our gut and so that that like turn on these receptors in our body to make these small changes. It's not it's not like you're taking a you know a hormone that's that's doing something foreign to your own. It's not HGH. It's yeah, what it's doing is your peptide is like an amino acid blend that's turning on certain uh responses in your body to allow for things that would happen when you're in your 20s now can happen again when you're in your 40s and 50s. So pretty cool stuff.

Rethinking Goals Beyond Numbers

Choosing Presence With Family

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, yeah, so yeah, so I mean that kind of goes into ultimately goals. I think uh last year kind of became a cluster for me personally. So I don't even remember what goals I set in 2025, but what I've found is a lot of my life has been set in I hit this number, I set this thing, I'm gonna run a marathon a month, I'm gonna hit this many things. It's all numeric, it's all quantitative. And and for the first time, I sat down for 2026 to really figure out what are my real goals. And I analyzed last year and I analyzed this year of what I want to see when I when it when the clock turns midnight, January 1, what I what would be an accomplishment that I came up with. And for the first time in my life, I broke it up into like four things. So I I came up with discipline goals, I came up with family goals, I came up with spiritual goals, and then of course work goals. But that was the fourth one. I was like, I've always had work being the number one, how much money I'm gonna make, what kind of things I'm gonna sign, how big, uh, how many New York Times bestsellers I'll have. Like it was very much a it was always work related. And for the first time in my life, I didn't put that as my first one. It was kind of actually I forgot to do it, and I was like, oh yeah, crap, I got work, I gotta figure that out. And it was very interesting how this, you know, chat GPT helped with like a plan, and then I just filled it out from there. But uh the main thing that I came from from this was is the first time I came up with a focus statement. Like, what am I what's my statement? And I I I came up with what I want for my family, and you know, my birthday happened, I just turned 41, comes around the same time New Year's, and I always ask the question to everybody on their birthday, what do you want your next year to look like? Uh and Stacy asked me that in front of our friends, and I said, I want to be more present with my family. I'm busy all the time, I'm doing, I'm working all the time, and I just am so sick of being on my phone. I'm so sick of missing stuff. I just want to be present. And that is a very difficult thing to put into perspective or an I always want a number. Okay, I'm I'm I'm this many hours of um of focused on my family, and I'm this many minutes of being kind of oh, I put my phone down 14 times to ask my daughter a question. And what I realized this year was just it doesn't matter what does that mean to me if I feel at the end of the year that I was present, that's good. That's the good thing. And I I I think because this year's taught me, 2025 has taught me, make plans and just it seems like fuck it, dude. Like anything that I thought was 2025, looking into 20. If you would have told me at the beginning of 2025 my 2026 would look like this, I would tell you crazy. What are you smoking, bro? Yeah, so so for and and it's not a bad thing. I'm not upset about it. I think what I'm more crazed about is the fact that it looks so much different than I thought. So, what are the consistence in my life? Well, the one thing that has the one one one thing, it's not my it's not my physical body. I'm actually in the best shape of my life. Um, it's it's my family. That's the one thing that I've missed. And I really want to take the time. It's not about time because I was always around. It's about investing in that good time with my family. Taking and it's being active with my family, and that's where it kind of came to is like, what would I say would be a good investment of my time? Well, it's like, let's go on a bike ride, let's go to the park. The other day I came home from work, I was late, I was tired. The sun's coming down, and my son asked me to go kick field goals at the football field. And I was like, hell yeah, bro, let's go. I didn't say hell because you know I don't want him saying that. But I load him up and I tell my daughter, hey, grab your lacrosse stuff. Because while he's kicking field goals and we're playing, we can we can hit the lacrosse ball. And we had an hour of fun. But I could have easily said, I just got home from work, let's cook dinner. But I was like, no, let's go. I my son asking me to play something, like, let's go. Yeah, and that is what to me means be present with our family.

SPEAKER_02

I love that. Yeah, I mean, I I like you, I've spent a lot of years like crafting, especially when I was a director with Camp Gladiator, it's like it was this whole like culture of like setting massive goals, and like, you know, it was whatever is like how much we were gonna make, or how many like lives impacted, or you know, all these like metrics that were gonna like kind of prove to us that and motivate us, kind of give us the juice to have a big year. But I'm I'm there, I'm right there with you. Like, I am you know, some of that's just like things are good with business, and I'm not I don't feel like I'm I'm about to be 51. I don't feel like the need in the next five years to grow this thing into this this other level of of success. I'm really happy with where I'm at. And so yeah, it's it's relationship with Jack, it's it's my family, it's you know, Val and I just like going to Jack's middle school now.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you know, I I here's a question for you because I remember something you said last year at the same time. You said, I want to be able to go on a vacation and not worry about you wanted to build your business so that you didn't have to worry about being the guy so you could go spend a week somewhere with your family. Like, how did you feel that went this year?

Business Balance And Smarter Rest

SPEAKER_02

Oh, this this year was a perfect example of how that was true. You know, and and just also like just undering understanding the ebb and flow of of like high-end clients, too. It's like when you're training clients that are kind of like you know, middle class, upper middle class, January is a great time. Everyone wants to be working out, but for my high high-end clients, nobody's around, they're all skiing, they're all like have these extended uh holidays that that go for you know, and so it's it's and that same thing happens in the summer, you know, July, August, it's hot as hell here. Yeah, people are not around. So it's like some of that is just like learning when to take the vacations. Like, you know, don't take the vacations when everyone's here, take the vacations when everyone else is taking their vacations. You minimize that too, and uh, and then having support so that the people that are here can train with other clients. So that that's been a cool thing because that is one of the sticking points of being a trainer by the hour or something like that. So um, but I I want you know, this question is posed to the listeners. Listeners, uh you know, because we we part of our excitement about 2026 is in our podcast really wanting to up our game in terms of adding value and content. Absolutely. Not just doing a weekly podcast that's kind of funny and and and you know lightly sprinkles in some uh some knowledge or something, but like you know, to start to up our game with with guests, with topics that are that are relevant to you know the guys out there listening that are in their 40s and 50s that are kind of going through some of the same things we are. And so uh I'd be interested to hear uh from any of you guys out there that are that are setting goals, yeah, uh whether they're family-based goals or or fitness-based goals or even uh even you know work-based goals. Like, what are you doing? Um what's you know, how are you thinking differently this year? Because that's really for me. I like I like that you walked in today with that same with that perspective. It's like it's exactly the way I'm feeling. Yeah, I'm not feeling the need to like put these big numbers up. I'm feeling the need to like invest in quality of time and in the mo big moments. Yeah.

Building Community And Better Topics

SPEAKER_00

I think we're in a unique position because dad bods and dumbbells was started with the idea that I'm 40, you're 50, you've been where I've been, you can see where we're going. And it it's more of talking about our kids are about the same age. It's understanding what these different phases of life look like. And I think some of our most successful podcasts we've had over the years, over this last year, have been people that are ordinary people that have keen insight, that have real life issues, real life situations that we can all relate to. We've we've had very, very famous people on our podcast, and those aren't our most popular podcasts. And I think this year what I really want to focus on is giving because I want to invest in in dad bods and dumbbells because I think it's important, the same way I want to bring stuff to the community to give support, to build connection with people, to build a real community around what it means to be a better man. And I don't want to eliminate those females, but this is designed towards dudes. And the majority of people I talk to are dudes. And where we're struggling and where I'm struggling is the exact it seems like to the exact same issues that most men are struggling, and most men are succeeding. So, where can we be better together? I can't tell you how many men I've texted over the last few weeks because in the first of the year, hey, how can I support you with your goals this year? Do we need to after work get together and work out? Do we need to X, Y, and Z? Because I'm struggling, they're struggling. It doesn't mean we struggle, it just means there's moments of ebbs and flows. And I think if you know me like you know me, which is sometimes I have moments of just like I disappear. I don't want to do that anymore. I don't, I don't want to be like, I can't deal. So I'm just gonna disappear for weeks on end and not respond to anything because you've challenged me on that. I want to be a present friend, I want to be a present husband, and I want to be present father. And I I know I'm not the only one dealing with that that's listening.

Rebuild Mindset: Discipline And Faith

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I agree. And uh and the other the other thing I just think is you know, we are you and I are very flawed. You know, and it's funny, I I told one of my old high school buddies we got to hang out a couple months ago at a little reunion, and I texted him like, man, you are so beautifully flawed. I love you. And he was just like, he keeps bringing it up. He's like, he's like, oh yeah, I'm so beautifully flawed, aren't I? But I mean, like it's it is in the sense of like the the older we get, like you know, the more you realize like everyone is flawed, and if you don't want people to see that, or you don't aren't willing to show that, have vulnerability around it, yeah, like you're probably putting on a front, yeah, which means you're hiding a big part of yourself that you don't want people that you you're ashamed of. Yeah, and you know, even if if showing your flaws and and and talking about them, you know, doesn't make you cool anymore, yeah. I think it's just a healthier place to be, a healthier mindset to be in, um, you know, and and not just trying to put this persona out there that like you got all your shit to you know put together. Because I have to tell you, being being tall and fit, like everyone just assumes like I'm Mr. Discipline.

SPEAKER_00

I'm this you got no problems, bro.

SPEAKER_02

And that's and and and so I mean I can't change their point, their perspective, but and I'm not gonna get fat just to change that perspective either. But but I mean I I it's not my problem. Yeah, it's not my problem to like I I want to continue to kind of just open up and share. So uh that's good. I I just want to and again uh challenge you guys if you're listening and you want to share, sometimes you know, a great way to have a little bit of uh more momentum or or energy behind a goal is just to share it. Yeah, absolutely. Use my email, it's on the it's in the show notes. Send us uh send me your your goals, and I'd love to see them and just keep you accountable to it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I think there's also questions about goals. Hey, how would I hit this? How would I do this? Um, I want to encourage all the guys out there listening, all the people listening, is uh I've been working with one of my best friends who is one of those guys that kind of shares it all, he's open to all and makes you feel comfortable. He created a brand called Rebuild, and it's designed around the idea of building your faith, your discipline, your strength all in one. And he is the model of that. Now he would say, No, I'm not that um, but he is focused on his relationships, he's focused on his his his fitness, he's focused on the discipline of doing something hard every day and working on himself first because he's rebuilding his life, yeah. And it doesn't mean that you have to, and so for me, I've kind of sounds like a great guy to have on our podcast, right? I absolutely have to have him because what he built with rebuilt for me has challenged me to be like, I don't have to be a divorced dad, I don't have to be an addict. I can be rebuilding right now, and that's not a negative. And I think people put it in, and what he's done is made it a positive. And I want to encourage anybody out there, especially in this new year, is like rebuilding isn't a bad thing. Rebuild does defines a discipline and a strength that you can find. And the reason I love the new year is it gives us an opportunity to really drive something home and say, I'm gonna do this because new year knew me, new year knew us.

Self-Respect, Vulnerability, And Leveling Up

Well, and the reality is if if you're if you have a new year's goal or if you have a goal to be a better dad or a better husband or to show up better for your family, yeah, it starts with working on yourself. Yep. Because the reason that we check out or get selfish or scroll you know, death scroll on our phones is because we are we don't feel enough about who we are or we're we're we're missing something. We're not we're we're letting we're detaching from some feeling that we don't want to feel instead of engaging with all this beauty around us. Right.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I I think you and I have had similar, like it seems like our feelings about ourselves have been intersected. But I remember one guy challenging me and saying, Mitch, do you even love yourself first? Because I think I and I don't want to take it to the extreme, is do you love you? It sounds so gay, but it's true. Like, do you love you? Because I've hated myself many for a long time, and I've been unable to really love myself the way I need to be loved. And I think being present starts with that. Because if we don't like who we are, we're never gonna like the situation we're in, we're never gonna be present for where we are. So, first and foremost, you have to find a way to love you, and that starts with discipline. That starts with everything we're talking about, and it's not a shame thing because I've done all of the shameful things, like it's not those things. So please, anybody that has that, I want to hear it. We want to hear it because I think these topics we're gonna talk about are gonna be hard-hitting, they're gonna be real, they're gonna be stuff that we're dealing with, and this year is a year of being better together and leveling up. I that's what I want.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I I'm I'm down with all of that.

SPEAKER_00

That's why we partner with Opti Optimize, that's why we've partnered with Solutions Pharmacy. Like we choose these partners for a reason, and it's because we want to level up in many different ways, but I think we can level up as individuals and be better men.
