S4EP02: Celebrating Season 3 and Moving into Season 4 but First...Sprinting in Disneyland? LOL!

Doug & Daryl Season 4 Episode 2

Send us a text

Have you ever wondered how random encounters can transform into life-changing connections? Or how ordinary consistency can create extraordinary results? In our Season 4 kickoff episode, we're taking a moment to celebrate the incredible journey of Season 3's "Setbacks to Comebacks" while sharing some hilarious recent adventures.

Daryl kicks things off with a tale that had us in stitches - his wife Josephine's unexpected transformation into Usain Bolt at Disneyland, sprinting past thousands of visitors to be fourth in line for the Cars ride while he followed behind with children in tow. It's a perfect reminder that sometimes our competitive spirit emerges when we least expect it!

We then dive into reflecting on the remarkable guests who graced our microphones during Season 3. From Tony Kyaw's inspiring journey through prostate cancer recovery to becoming an active cyclist and coach again, to meeting ultrarunner Ruben Cuevas through a chance 25-second conversation at a race starting line. We spotlight Ted Enea's powerful story of overcoming back problems with a proactive approach and through simple, consistent walking - proving that extraordinary results don't require extraordinary methods, just extraordinary commitment. And of course, we celebrate Team Peach's Death Ride adventures and the wonderful people we met along the way, including Emily, Thomas, and course coordinator John Erickson.

Looking ahead to Season 4, we're excited to explore topics like rucking (Doug's on day 20 of his 30-day challenge), the "jeffing" interval running method that's transforming how people approach distance running, and strategies for maintaining fitness routines during life transitions. We're particularly looking forward to interviewing Josephine and Katie about their half-marathon training using the jeffing technique.

What unexpected connections have transformed your life? How has consistency in small things created big results for you? Join our conversation by sending us a text message through the link in our show notes. Let's continue celebrating everyday people achieving extraordinary results through consistency and community!

Speaker 1:

Hey, hey, hey. Welcome to the Peach Podcast. Just a couple of dudes and an occasional guest breaking open topics from everyday life on purpose, energy, attitude, commitment and health. So, if you're ready, listen in as we live to learn from our losses, gain from our gratitude and laugh as we level up. To learn from our losses, gain from our gratitude and laugh as we level up. Always remember, if you ever feel stuck, all you got to do is just start Come on, let's go.

Speaker 2:

welcome back to peach podcast. This is season four, technically, daryl. Technically this is kind of like our fifth season going around, but we never labeled the first time we got on. We didn't label it until after almost a year of podcasting. We decided to play around and try seasons and, who knows, we may drop the whole season thing, we may stick with it. But right now we're going to stick with it and finish out the year with our seasons and this is officially season four. So welcome to season four.

Speaker 2:

I think last week was our podcast of season four, but we really didn't celebrate it or mention it or anything like that. So I'm doing it now. I'm doing it now and, daryl, we are going to recap the whole season three as best we can the guests we had, things we learned, and then we'll talk a little bit about what's laying ahead. But before we do that, darrell, before we do that, I was on the Zoom with Darrell just chopping it up. He's down in Disneyland right now with his family having a great time and oh my gosh, darrell, you have to share that story about this morning. So, darrell, I'm gonna kind of just set the stage.

Speaker 2:

So daryl sets us, uh, sends that we have this team peach group uh text thread and, um, he sent us a picture of him with had to be at least a thousand, if not a couple thousand people behind him and we're all texting back like what is that? Are you starting a marathon? Are you starting a race? Like we are all making running jokes, because that's what it looks like when you sign up for a big running event. And and we knew that he was at disneyland, but and he never did really get back to us, but he just shared with me what that picture represented. And, daryl, tell the people, uh, tell the people about that photo and what was going on this morning with you, josephine and uh, ava and her friend kylie is that her name?

Speaker 3:

right, right, right yeah yeah, well, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Well, um, as as many people know, when you go to Disneyland, one of the core things is, uh, the morning routine. You get early passes and it's your way to kind of get ahead and get a couple of good rides. And so this morning, uh, we had California adventure and, uh, we kind of missed, miscalled it, but anyway we were, uh we were there and we're in California adventure and instead of seven 30 early time, it was eight o'clock, so we were right up against in California adventure, uh the fourth or fifth, uh people in line with the rope.

Speaker 1:

We had about 15 minutes, so there's a rope before you go into the park.

Speaker 3:

There's, you're in the park, but they rope it off to a point before the rides.

Speaker 2:

Okay, okay.

Speaker 3:

So, um, so, of course, uh, people start lining up, they get into the park and they start lining up and I took the picture and it could only remind me of wharf to wharf, which we took the picture at, where there were 16,000 people, um, you know, lined up to do the race.

Speaker 3:

And I took a picture and it was kind of funny and uh, about five minutes to eight, by the way. Um, there's probably a couple thousand people in line. Every one of us was going to one ride cars which are in that eight o'clock, okay, and about seven, 55, the lady came out in front of the rope on the other side and said hey, welcome, you've got five more minutes. We want to make sure everybody's clear they're walking. We want to be safety. You know Disney, you know proper, everything else.

Speaker 3:

The, the, the rope comes down and we'll be guiding you over. Most of you guys are going to cars. So I'm there and Josephine just is in front of me and Ava's next to me and Kylie, and they let the rope down at eight o'clock and you can imagine people are pretty excited and there is several thousand people behind us and everybody wants to get there and, by the way, the difference being between the front and probably the back is probably an hour to an hour and a half. Wait, right, and um, so I say no problem, we'll just walk, I'm sure people will run and the line goes down and I see my wife go into a full on sprint.

Speaker 3:

Josephine just starts running and everybody starts kind of going to. Ava grabs my hand it's a little nervous. Kylie grabs the other hand. I've got kids on both sides and my wife is gone. Now my wife, who has the Jeffings, walk one minute, run two minutes approach.

Speaker 1:

Interval was any full out sprint.

Speaker 2:

So you're saying she wasn't doing no intervals at this moment?

Speaker 3:

No, no, no intervals whatsoever. You know, and uh, I joke later that I think she set a PR for the Strava segment between the rope line and cars and I was trying to look for her and Ava. He was like where's mom? I said mom's gone, Mom's gone. So she gets up there, she takes a picture. She was like the fourth person in line. Holy crap, the car's right and starts texting me when are you? Well, I'm like a half mile behind, but the other thousand people that were told to walk and you were told to walk.

Speaker 3:

And uh, it just means kind of a rule follower too, and I've never seen her run that fast in my life, and so the next time she complains about I'm slow, I don't like my 10 minute mile, no, no she was she was flat out, she was a Usain Bolt running to the front of the line.

Speaker 2:

And you know, daryl, we you can actually make your own segments on Strava. And I think we need to go into Strava on your account and make that a segment and uh, yeah, it was good, it was a good morning and uh, and, by the way, um uh, the rope went down at eight o'clock.

Speaker 3:

We were off the ride at eight 20. That's how much we were. And uh, by the way, she was way ahead of me in line and so she looped back around. She like lifted up the things we went under. So we broke like 10 rules at Disney this morning. So hopefully Disney's not listening.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, hopefully Disney's not listening and they uh withdraw your membership. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Doug. Hey, why don't you recap? We had a really great. We were just kind of going through it ahead of time. We had guests and others. Why don't you just recap our season?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah yeah, I'm so, darrell, we're gonna just recap. We'll stay away from all the episodes we're gonna highlight. We're always grateful when we meet new people, which is one of the wonderful things of doing this podcast. And then we get to some of these new people we get to interview and some people we've known and we've interviewed. So we're going to start off with just highlighting some of the guests that have come on and if anything sparks your memory or you want to celebrate something again, then just shout it out. Man, we're going to keep this episode really loose and really light off the cuff and have fun with it. And then, after we're done remembering the people we've interviewed and some of the things we've learned from them, we'll talk about what to look ahead, what's going on ahead. We're not super clear on what's going on ahead, but we'll figure it out with the listeners. How about that?

Speaker 2:

But the first guest we had on this year I believe was way back, way back in episode one or two or three is Tony Kya. He's a parent at Ava Jo's school at St Mal's Big shout out to St Mal's. His story was about having cancer and he had prostate cancer. He dealt with that. It kind of mentally knocked him down for a second, but physically he rose above man Kicked butt and Tony's. You know, at this moment knock on wood and praise God that he's cancer free, but when I bring up his name, is there anything from his podcast episode Daryl that rings memories or anything you want to re-celebrate or talk about?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, tony is an amazing person. I remember Josephine making a dinner and I brought it over to Tony when he was recovering, for him and his wife Amazing people, and I think about that and we, literally I brought over the dinner and we ended up sitting in his front entryway talking for about an hour just kind of recapping what he'd been through, and then he was on the podcast. Tony's such a uplifting spirit Overall. Tony went from there to kind of slowly getting back to being a coach at St Mel's um, uh, the the head coach, uh, for track and for the cross country, uh, to running himself. And he just completed a metric century, uh, this weekend on his bike ride. Um, and he's such an inspiration.

Speaker 3:

I've really seen, um, and I know you had some interactions with him, but Tony's so uplifting and so great and I'm just, I'm thrilled one that he made it through the cancer, both diagnosis, treatment and recovery, and he's doing awesome. Yeah, he's doing awesome. So a big lesson for all of us. You know, wake up. You know he could be sitting around, everything's good and you know what Life happens, right, and he dealt with it and he did an amazing job.

Speaker 3:

happens right and he dealt with it and he did an amazing job. So no, tony, big shout out to him and congrats on completing your metric century this weekend.

Speaker 2:

Yes, congratulations, tony and Tony. What I love about Tony is he's a seeker Like. He's always looking to improve himself. We had a few conversations regarding his career and then and we always talked about, you know, just health and fitness and he's just one of those dudes that has that high energy frequency and that vibration about him. Man, it's fun being around him, it's easy being around him and he's really, really super cool dude. But season three was setbacks to comebacks and he kind of kicked it off for us and he did an awesome job. He's in season three and he is in episode two. I'm looking him up right here, episode two. So if anybody wants to go back, if you know anyone struggling with prostate cancer or anything like that, check out season three, episode two. Tony, kya and man. Leave us a text message. You can leave a text message on our podcast site. Under the description. It says text message. Right there. It's all anonymous and help us celebrate these guys who get on with us.

Speaker 2:

The next person I want to bring up is someone we met when you and Eric started going to crazy town. Man, this was like the beginning of crazy town for you and Eric, when you started getting into endurance running and Eric saw this race called silver moon. You could sign up for multiple sections one, a six hour run, a 12 hour run, a 24 hour run or a hundred mile run. And Eric's entry into this whole thing was like, hey, let's do the six hour run, who's doing it with me? And you jumped in. And you jumped in. I wanted to jump in but, as you know and everyone knows, I've been dealing with foot problems, so, but on that, we're standing there at the starting line, right, we talked about earlier.

Speaker 2:

The cool thing about doing this podcast is we get to meet people and there's this dude, man, and he's got this shirt that says something about God. And you know, darrell, we try to be godly men as best we can. We fall short every day of the people that know us. Us, but, uh, and I said something to this guy about his shirt, it was really cool and we ended up talking with him and his his name was Ruben and uh, ruben, he's got his own podcast, uh, and he turns out to be this really cool dude with another guy with some great energy, and we're standing at the starting line and he says, yeah, I'm doing the a hundred miler today and we're like, oh damn man, man and it just, you know, talk to him for a few minutes and I think saw him a couple of times, because on that course it was loops, so you would run across people multiple times here and there.

Speaker 2:

Anyways, got connected with Ruben and was inspired by what he was doing and how he was doing it and asked him to get on and do an interview. But when I bring up Ruben's name, what comes back to you? Daryl?

Speaker 3:

Well, what comes back to me is you know those interactions in your life, literally, doug, we probably spoke to him for 25 seconds before the gun went off for a run and we've made an amazing connection with him. Right, Never leave those unintended things. You saw his shirt, you made a comment to him, he made a comment to you and then since then, we've become friends and he is probably one of the most energetic, uplifting Christian people I look up to. I see his posts, I see his podcast. I'm thrilled to have Ruben in our lives, right and getting to know him. And it's literally that 25 seconds as they were literally counting down for us to go take this run that we connected with him. So that's a big thing I take away when I uh, when I think of Ruben.

Speaker 2:

Yes, yes, yes, ruben, Ruben. Uh, I think I can't. I'm just going to mirror what you said about Ruben and, uh, he just his energy is infectious and contagious and a solid, solid man, you know, living for the Lord and doing it the best he can. Uh, last time I talked to Ruben, he was starting um, a, a men's training thing at his church and he wanted to run it by his pastor and he ran it by us to see if it was good. It was a cool plan man and uh, I'm sure I have. You know, I knew we need to follow up with him and see how that's going. It's been it's been a little bit since we've talked to Ruben, but we should definitely follow up with him. If you want to check out Ruben, be inspired from someone who's done multiple runs. What I loved about. I remember about Ruben how he said how he prepared for that. Do you remember how he said how he prepared for the hundred miler?

Speaker 3:

I don't remember, was it a lot of mental?

Speaker 2:

It was all mental and he said if he and he used his daughter I forget how old she was, a two-year-old or toddler or something and he realized that if he could not deal with you know the ins and outs of a young child, then how's he going to deal with running a hundred miles? And so he used raising his daughter as calm as he could and with good energy and lots of love, especially when he didn't have it. Sometimes, when we're working or we're going through crap, we don't feel like being patient. We like just go to your room and shut up. But he used those moments to really discipline his mind and work on his mind and to get his mental wellness. So very interesting story. Go and check him out. He's in Season 3, episode 7, everything is Fuel, with Ruben Cuevas Gathering Strength. I think Gathering Strength is the name of his podcast, isn't it? Yes, yes, yep, all right, and then let's see who's next. Who's next? We also had Ted ted ania, ted ania. I don't know if I'm going in the right order, but I'll.

Speaker 3:

It is ted ted was next and uh ted. Not only was uh on the podcast, get the great story, but also we just come. You just completed his birthday challenge. So it's kind of a double, double whammy this season. So yeah, it's such a cool guy.

Speaker 2:

He is a cool dude. What do you know? His, his, his topic was how ordinary consistency creates extraordinary results with Ted and Nia, and that's season three, episode 10. Anything pop out to you from that that interview?

Speaker 3:

Daryl, yeah, I didn't. I knew Ted and I knew what you had done. I didn't know he came from that huge pain in his back and the recovery he had gone through and that's very, very inspiring, you know. You see, here's so many people that have back problems. I mean, I know I can name probably four or five people Doug that have back problems and generally they stop Right. I mean to be honest with you.

Speaker 3:

I got a back problem, I can't do this, I can't do that, and everything else. He literally took action and look where he's come Right and uh, and so that that was one of the most inspiring that I did not know, um, until we had the podcast, and then his story is just great and uh, the fact that he's so involved in this year with, uh, you know, uh, the charity was at loaves and fishes and everything else there and just the amazing things that he does.

Speaker 1:

Um sorry, meals on wheels. Meals on wheels.

Speaker 3:

Yeah and uh yeah. Just the fact that he's got a great story comes from a pain background to overcoming. And then he really, uh really focused on the charity event this year.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and you know, one of the things I love about Ted is just his uh, he stays in his lane, uh, and he and I knew that about him even well before he used to coach, uh, one of my daughter's soccer team, um, back when she was in high school and whatnot.

Speaker 2:

But he, he's just a very humble man who's he's not out there to impress anyone.

Speaker 2:

And as I got to know him in the fitness world cause we didn't really work out or do any health stuff until much later on, until our kids were adults and stuff so you know, when I connected with him on that level, just seeing how he stays in his lane and how consistent he is, it just always impressed me. And even to this day, like I check in with Ted once a week and he's always talking about you know what he's weighing, what he's doing, if he's struggling and he keeps it real with me, daryl, like he's on vacation in Wisconsin right now and you know he's got this, he's got, he hasn't broken his walking streak but he's been slacking a little on the pushups here and there and we talk and you know I give him a couple smacks and and and he he actually smacks himself, but he's honest and he's real about it and he gets back to it, man, and I love how he stays in his lane, because we live in a world sometimes where you know comparative reality, man, it's like oh.

Speaker 2:

I wish I could do it. I wish I could do that. Well, why do you wish you can do it and do you know what it takes to do it? And Ted finds solid things like walking, and he does them consistently. Anybody can walk, daryl. Anybody can walk, whether it's 15 minutes a day, 30 minutes a day hour, and you can build up. But it gets boring when you get to day three, day five, day 10, you're like I don't want to do it anymore and Ted deals with that. He deals with that. But because he does what he does and because he's Ted, he shows up regardless and he gets it done. Man, I've I've heard him get out you know 11 o'clock at night going oh shit, I still got to get you know three more thousand steps in. It's raining or whatever. And and he gets it done. He does whatever it takes. So I love his story of consistency.

Speaker 2:

He is season three, episode 10, as I said before, how ordinary consistency creates extraordinary results. With Ted and Nia Check him out. And then we moved on. We talked about mental toughness, we talked about unfinished business. That was season 12. Yeah, season 3, episode 12. Season 3, episode 12. And we had on Team Peach. We had on Team Peach, I think a couple times.

Speaker 3:

The whole team Before and after. Before and after.

Speaker 2:

Yes, and so do you remember episode 12 and season three?

Speaker 3:

I do I do, I do and uh, when I look back on it, to me, uh, this is the, the year of jr, right? Um, yeah, you know, uh, jr uh, who, uh, he's always been an amazing, uplifting person, great, uh, great inspiration. Uh, for me personally, uh, this year, to me I don't know doug it feels like uh, he's, uh, he's had to come back on many, many, many different levels. Right, he'd come off a pretty difficult uh bike accident where he got actually got hit by a car.

Speaker 3:

Uh recovering after, yeah, head injury and everything else, also shoulder and other different things, arm and uh, his consistency and his drive, uh was so great and it's not just about the physical, his mental and just overall. You know, he was pushing us, he was calling us, he was texting us hey, I'm going to go on this ride. Do you want to come with me? Um and uh, the fact that he got it done and it doesn't really matter about the result and the outcome his preparation on the way there was very inspiring. So to me, when I think about Death Thrive, this year it was the year of JR. Yes.

Speaker 2:

Yes, very good, and I think you know. I think it's important for people who are struggling, for people who are dealing with setbacks and feel frustrated and feel like they're not overcoming things. I think it's important for them to listen to season three, episode 12, to hear everyone's attitude about. I'm going to go there, I'm going to get it done. That's what we were all saying. You know, we're going to show up and get it done. And then I'm going to move ahead to season three, episode 14.

Speaker 2:

It says beyond six passes what makes death ride legendary with course coordinator John Erickson. But in that episode we also have Team Peach, because we come back and we interview everyone after. It's the after what we said, what we were going to do, and we also interviewed Emily. Emily was a rider that we met out there on one of our training rides and ended up riding with us on Death Ride and I think you had the lion's share of riding with her. I was dealing with porta potties, but let's talk about Beyond Six Passes and John Erickson. That was a cool connection. You met him at a different event. He was at a booth right, he was at Gold Country or something like that, and you connected with him again. Another moment where you meet someone and then they end up being on the show Like we get to meet some really cool people, so share a little bit about that.

Speaker 3:

Daryl, yeah, we talk about the people you meet along the way, both John Emily and Thomas Thomas with Emily's friend that was also there.

Speaker 1:

Yes, he was on the podcast.

Speaker 3:

But we met with him just super random encounters. These are people randomly we meet, we connect with. Now Emily and Thomas were great because we met them on a random ride the weekend before and we actually somehow find them in the dark because Emily was behind you guys as you guys were talking. I think it was Dave nonstop talker, right, she's like I think I know him, but just really cool people. John Erickson, overall got involved very similar got into cycling, everything else got involved in Death Ride during COVID and others. Now he's one of the top people running the event with a big group and he talked not only about his love of Death Ride but overall cycling in general and really promoting that. And then Emily, just I mean big shout out to her. And Thomas, right, first timers kind of like taking the plunge, like I don't know what we're doing.

Speaker 2:

Right, they did it, I mean like.

Speaker 3:

I mean like legit, like you know, legit taking a chance Right and doing some cool things and you know it's great. We follow Emily and, by the way, we follow her on Strava she's a pretty bad-ass runner too.

Speaker 2:

I'm like, holy crap, all kinds of stuff out there and swimming, I think she's getting ready for a try actually.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you know, I, I, I love that. We, when we got up to death ride this year, doug, we met some people that we had seen before and some new people, and it's a such a cool, cool experience. What we get to, uh, what we get to do, and what would the people get to meet?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and what would the people get to meet? Yeah, it's definitely expanding our sphere of just really cool people in our lives and it's all you know. What's really cool is when we reconnect with the people we've met on Death Ride. It's like time hasn't passed. It's like, hey, how's it going? And you spend a few minutes catching up and then you meet some new people as well.

Speaker 2:

But, yeah, john Erickson he man I loved no-transcript he can to get involved with cycling and then, uh, as he gets older, he wants to make sure that torch is being passed on. Someone's going to take, you know, step into his shoes. He's got, he's got plenty of years left in him, but uh, he's looking ahead and I love how proactive he's, he's being about it. And as far as Emily yes, oh my gosh, what a rockstar. And Thomas, right, here's two people we we didn't know said hi to as we rode our bikes by them on a, on a training ride, and I think every one of us said you guys okay, you guys Okay, and they were like we're good, we're good, we're good. Then we get to the top of uh monitor on the training ride and and chatting for a while and we're waiting on a couple of riders and just connected and she just wanted to, you know, keep on riding with us. And hey, we said hey, we'll see you next weekend at the uh, at the ride, and she's like, well, maybe, cause it's going to be dark out, and sure enough, as you, as you mentioned, she, uh, she heard I think it was JR or something, and JR said little sprocket, is that you? Because somebody said they noticed her with her little. She wears a backpack and it's not just a light little backpack, she got this backpack on while she's riding. Plus she got the hard gears, you know. So she's a badass. And she was like, oh my God, I had no idea I was going to meet you guys. So that was really cool, connecting with her and then her riding with, uh, I think she rode with me up to up, up and down monitor and then she took, then you took her from there and uh, it was just, it was just great, great connection. But yes, she is into multiple sports, she's a swimmer, she's a cyclist, she's a runner, she's a hiker, she does all that. That's, at least that's what I see on Strava. And that girl is just, she's a beast. She's like you, daryl, there's always something on Strava from her.

Speaker 2:

And then, moving from uh, from there, we interviewed the team. You know, man shout out to the whole team If you want to know how team peach did on the death ride. You know, definitely go and listen, go and listen to them and give them all some love. Give them all some love. Remember, you can text message us. In the notes, the show notes, the description, right there it says text message. It's all anonymous, but we'd love to hear from you. And then I think that's that was it for guests, daryl.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I've got one more person I want to call out. You know I'm not quite sure how or why, but you know, as you said, when you're done with an event you have that like day or two after where you're like you're a little bit on that recovery and you're like I need to sign up for something else. And so I looked at this event called Cool Moon it was a 50 miler Right and I was trying to talk Eric into it and we had some questions and Eric emailed the race director he didn't know who it was, but just whatever the contact information and mailed the race director who he didn't know who it was, but just whatever the contact information, and the person's name is Martin Sango and he ended up being the race director. He got back to Eric within three or four hours, gave him the information, gave him some feedback about the event, some questions we had. We signed up for it, we met him, we talked to him up there. We'd become Facebook friends, strava friends and everything else.

Speaker 3:

By the way, he not only runs the event, he's one of the top runners out of Auburn, did the Arizona 300, did Badwater and just completed another one, and he's qualified for Western States and he texts us all the time or sends us notes and says come up and train with us. So just randomly, an email questioning got back to Eric and we're going to reach out. Uh, martin just completed a huge, huge event, uh, this last weekend angel crest, and we're going to see if we can get them on the podcast. Um, uh, in the next season. A big shout out to him. You know like we're some like random new, new newbies, right, and we reach out and he gives us a hand, gives us advice, gives us all sorts of things there. So I just want to really shout out to him. You know people that, uh, as we learn new things, it's awesome that people that have a lot of experience will give us help along the way. So just big shout out to Martin and we'll work on getting him on the next season.

Speaker 2:

I love that. I love that. And and last week, uh, I had mentioned, um, the last week was the beginning of uh season four, episode one, and I love there. This is something we got to follow up on and we got to keep the listeners tuned in, Don, because I'm sure a lot of our listeners have children still and, um, and new listeners might. But I love that the title of season uh for episode one is a two mile run by a 10 year old man. You want to tune into that because it's very. This two mile run by this 10-year-old man, you want to tune into that because it's very. This two-mile run by this 10-year-old didn't happen overnight. This happened from a lot, a lot of races, lots of bike rides, lots of just activity and being around. You become the people you are surrounded with and this person, because she's 10 years old, has to be surrounded by her family and the spark and the light that's been ignited in her to go do a two-mile run on her own without being pushed or asked. Definitely want to follow up on that.

Speaker 2:

And also, I want to keep track of rucking. I'm on day 19. I got to go ruck later on today, but I'm on day I. I got to go ruck later on today, but I'm on day. I think this will be day 19,. Getting close to day 20, where I'll have 10 days left. Man, so many benefits, having a great time with it, and I look forward to really making it a staple in my fitness routine regimen, whatever you want to call that. So definitely we're going to look forward to some more rucking conversations. Maybe I'll start looking for some people who've been rucking much longer than I have and and whatnot. But we're also going to talk about.

Speaker 2:

We have some guests coming on uh, your wife Josephine and her friend Katie. Is that right, is Katie? Yeah, we're going to be interviewing them soon because they have, uh, caught wind of this running called effing or jeffing, jeffings, jeffings, and it's really. It's been around for a while and I don't know if that Jeffing Jeff is the founder of it, because the interval running has been around for quite a while.

Speaker 2:

I don't know where he fits in with. You know when it started, how it started, but he's got a big following. Started how it started, but he's got a big following, and so a lot of people know him from this, where you like, you can run for a minute walk for a minute or run for two minutes, walk for 30 seconds, whatever it is, whatever you're comfortable with, but somehow some way, when you do that interval running, many people run faster times in their marathons and their half marathons and, uh, and they're not as tired and it doesn't beat your body up as much. So there's a and there's I've been looking it up and there's a lot of science behind, a lot of really cool science behind it. Daryl, we'll have to get we'll have to take a deep dive into that and on one of these episodes, and maybe get somebody who's well-versed on the science behind it all.

Speaker 3:

Um, because it's really fascinating it is, I think. Josephine, uh, you know, kind of a new runner, but um has done several 10 Ks and has two half marathons. And then you've got Katie, who's a pretty seasoned runner. Um and uh, she's been big into uh, this, uh, this, uh three, one, uh, she does the three minutes, uh running, one a minute walking and uh, she's pretty fast, she's pretty fast and uh, I think is uh Jeff, uh Eddins or Effings uh is a gold medalist and he's uh got a whole following. So we'll definitely follow up with both of them. They have got two half marathons coming up, one in September, and then they're doing a Disney marathon in January next year.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, which, apparently, josephine was practicing for this morning.

Speaker 3:

She was on the sprint team sprint team.

Speaker 1:

She was in the.

Speaker 2:

Hussein boat. The Hussein boat lane man.

Speaker 3:

I know, um, uh, wonderful, uh, wonderful season. Um and uh looking forward. We got some good guests coming up, so uh, appreciate it. And, um, you know, moving into the new season even though it's uh early August kids go back to school next week Um and uh start entering, and start entering into the new kind of fall season coming up.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know what? I'm glad you mentioned that when we have guests on during this going back to school period, let's definitely make sure we ask them hey, how do you transition? Are you keeping the same workout routine or are you adjusting things and how are you adjusting? And let's just get inside the minds of other people, because I know a lot of people struggle with transition and change. So if we can add some value, some tips, it'd be a great opportunity to do so.

Speaker 2:

But that's about it, daryl man, nothing else to say. Brother, great recap of season three. Congratulations, brother. We did it and we're doing it. So we're moving into season four.
