Marketing Musings
The space for musings on marketing that are too chaotic for a carousel, not strategic enough for an algorithm to deem them valuable, or polished enough for a post. Just honest reflections on the art and psychology of marketing, from someone who loves it, questions it, and lives it.

There's a particular kind of discomfort that comes when everything goes quiet.
Not the quiet you chose, the kind that descends on you. Where the calendar clears, the momentum stalls, the ideas you were pushing hard on suddenly feel like they've hit an invisible wall.
For a long time, I called that failure. Or fear. Or both.
But what if it was actually an invitation?
What if the pause, the fog, the stillness, the space that makes every hustling bone in your body itch is exactly where your best work has always been waiting?
In today's episode, I'm sharing something that's been moving through me in a very real and personal way. A psychic reading that left me unexpectedly deflated, what happened the moment I stopped resisting what it was telling me, and why I now believe that visionaries don't just benefit from space they actually need it to survive.
I'm calling it the fertile void. And I think it might just change the way you see your slowest seasons.
Let's get into it.
I'd love to hear what you thought of this episode!

I'm your host Emma, a (0:36) marketing expert of over a decade.I truly love what I do and I'm bursting with knowledge to (0:41) share with you all, so sit back, relax and let's dive in. Hi and welcome back to another episode. (0:50) I'm currently landing here from a very sleepy space, I have just kind of rolled out of bed, (0:56) got my match up and then I've been sat with my journal and it's a very dark morning here so I've (1:02) got my little desk lamp on and it feels so beautiful actually because I was sat here before I (1:08) went to bed last night writing by candlelight, it was such a beautiful little evening and then I (1:13) kind of just feel like I've gone into a slumber and then arrived back at my desk in this beautiful (1:18) circle where so much is just channelling through me at the moment.I feel like I am writing and (1:24) writing after a period of quite heavy brain fog, I feel like it kind of washed over me, I know I (1:32) spoke about this a bit in the episode on stepping back from social media but I also felt a little (1:39) blurry because I wasn't fully sure what I was doing and I've shared in a couple of these episodes (1:45) about a psychic reading that I had which honestly felt like it was shutting down a lot of my avenues (1:53) and I felt pretty dejected on the call to be honest because a lot of what I had been pouring (1:59) myself into suddenly felt like it had a stop sign placed in front of it. Now I am not somebody that (2:06) will listen to what somebody outside of me says, take it for truth and then act on it but I think (2:14) what I was struggling with the most was that it actually felt true and it actually felt like (2:20) nudges I'd already been saying to myself around like something here just doesn't feel quite right (2:27) and I'm pushing through because I'm convincing myself that it is just fear talking and it's (2:33) just my doubt and I really do think that this is one of the hardest things to decipher between (2:39) because I have a very busy active mind and I also have a very strong intuition and I feel like they (2:47) are constantly in battle with one another and it can be really difficult to hear who is actually (2:55) guiding my decisions. Sometimes it feels like it's intuition when actually the mind is really (3:01) pushing forward because it wants to be disciplined and it wants to follow through on stuff and it (3:06) wants to be bringing things to life and to be having that kind of ego response of putting (3:13) things out into the world and then receiving recognition for them and sometimes the intuition (3:19) is guiding me to maybe say that's not fully it but I can be very good at ignoring those whispers (3:26) even though that pull is really strong and I shared that one of the first things the psychic (3:30) said to me is that your intuition is incredibly powerful and so when those words were landing for (3:38) me I noticed that there was a deep part of me that was feeling the truth in them and then there was (3:45) the other part that felt sad a little frustrated like she just wanted to push through anyway (3:53) and this was coming out on the call I was very much being like okay I hear what you're saying (3:57) but also we're humans with needs and I need to earn money and I need to be working and I need (4:05) to be doing these things and the psychic responded saying I could feel the stress in your nervous (4:09) system and I think I shared as well that I actually went onto the call very sick I had (4:15) actually been like physically purging for days so it felt like maybe there was still a part of me (4:21) holding on to what was ever was being very much cleared through my system at the time (4:28) and I think maybe because I had absolutely zero energy it was kind of a blessing because I very (4:34) much just surrendered into it I spent all of that rest of the day in the garden painting (4:38) watercolours just really letting things land and actually regulating myself and when I was kind of (4:47) back and forthing on okay well what do I really need to put my energy into now I could see that (4:53) the psychic was struggling with that because she kept saying things and then being like every time (4:58) I say it I'm getting from your guides that they just want you to have space and I am someone that (5:05) adores space but is also very resistant to it I've shared on here before but I grew up with (5:12) an Italian family that were very much about hustling harder they came to this country not (5:18) able to speak a word of English have always worked two to three jobs even when they retire they're (5:24) still working and even if they have money in the bank they are very much still in scarcity mindset (5:30) of course because there's some really deep rooted parts at play here and this has very much been (5:37) ingrained within me but as I know everyone listening to this episode will experience (5:44) I very much believe part of my purpose and even part of the purpose of a lot of the people in my (5:50) generation is very much to have this stuff end with us and maybe not entirely but for us to (6:00) rewire and question and do things differently and I know that I have been called into this (6:06) particular rewiring around hustling harder always needing income coming in in certain levels (6:13) and to just always be pushing for more I have done so much rewiring on this and of course (6:21) I'm not someone who believes that we just rewire it and then it's sold like a lot of the marketing (6:25) world presents I know that that part is still very much within me and needs tending to sometimes (6:30) and she really needed tending to in this moment as well because there's a part of her that doesn't (6:35) believe it's safe to have the space and so I really sat with this whilst I was sick and something that (6:42) kept coming through was like I really do need the space I don't want it but I do need it and I (6:49) couldn't quite make sense of why but suddenly my intuition had really come back online and I just (6:56) knew that I needed to take a little bit of a step back where I could trust that I was supported (7:02) and I could still be doing my work in some capacity but this push forward needed to go (7:10) into the background and I was struggling a little bit because I felt like when I was in Costa Rica (7:15) I had all these ideas through and the visions felt so powerful and the energy out there was so alive (7:20) and then I came home and there was this gap between being able to immediately action all (7:25) of those things as soon as I started to it kind of felt like force and pushing (7:31) and like I said I could feel this deeper part of me that actually wanted to stay in that space (7:37) the part of Costa Rica that I loved was that I actually wasn't actioning things I was very much (7:42) just letting it all land and giving it space to really arrive and I think another layer to this (7:49) resistance to space for me is I feel like I have had a lot of gaps in my life where I'm not fully (7:57) sure what I'm doing where it kind of feels like I'm letting something fall and then the next thing (8:03) hasn't fully arrived and I've spoken about this a lot in relation to that fertile void where it (8:10) feels like there is this real gap where things are kind of brewing on the inside and they're landing (8:15) and they're coming to life but we're not fully in that next phase of doing just yet and I since (8:24) taking this space recently have really been anchoring into the fact that this void is so (8:31) necessary for visionaries and I'm reluctant to even call it a void because I do think that many (8:37) of us have negative connotations with that that's why I like to call it the fertile void because it's (8:42) not just blank space with nothing it's where we're really planting the seeds from things and (8:48) we're having realisations and we're giving space to the ideas that we can't really tap into when (8:55) we are so tuned in to noise something I share on a lot is about how visionaries are here to really (9:02) imagine a different way of doing things like I said I think a lot of us are here to undo these (9:08) patterns and these ways that things have always been done and I really feel like this is amplifying (9:13) at the moment with reimagining the new way I think many of us well I know for me maybe for the last (9:20) five years or so at least have very much been in the stage of rewiring and letting things collapse (9:26) and fall away and really kind of I don't know finding that embodiment within myself first (9:33) and now it feels like I'm being pulled into that okay and how do we go about creating a life (9:39) serving others doing this work from that place and I think a lot of the things that I have been (9:46) maybe pushing forward in are still very much of this old way but I'm here to dismantle I'm still (9:53) doing things in the ways that I know because that's what feels safe that's what feels familiar and I (9:59) think this pull for space is really because it's in these gaps that we can actually imagine a (10:09) different way when we stop pushing forward we can actually have that pause that enables us to do (10:17) things differently and I've had this as I said many times but I think something different with this (10:24) time is before I was kind of like oh like okay I know this is here I can kind of accept it but I'm (10:29) really resistant to it and I don't want it and there's still a part of me that really wants to (10:33) push through whereas I think this time I'm anchoring into how necessary this is and how much (10:40) the way that the world is constructed does not give the space that is needed particularly for (10:48) visionaries who need a lot of time to really integrate things to embody what they have (10:55) experienced deeply and to have time where they're not constantly plugged into or pushing forward or (11:02) in a state of doing they need a lot of time in being so that these ideas can find them and they (11:09) can reimagine ways of doing things and they can really actually just have the space that probably (11:17) their life wants to be set out with I know for me something that's coming through a lot is like (11:21) I cannot work in the ways that I used to in terms of volume output capacity like it just cannot (11:29) happen for me and since I've been taking this space I've been sharing how I have been doing a (11:35) lot of crafting yes it's been really brilliant for me because I feel like it helps me mentally (11:41) a lot of people have actually slid into my dms and told me a lot of the health benefits which I (11:46) just love like I am just so tapped into how it feels but I love having the evidence that it's (11:51) actually you know an affirmation of what it is doing like lowering blood pressure and yeah it's (11:57) just incredible how much craft has found me or refound me should I say at this time where I'm (12:06) pouring so deeply into my creativity and something that kept coming through in the psychic reading (12:14) was that I need to be writing and I shared this before and I've shared this many times because (12:19) almost anyone that I have seen in this capacity any tarot readings I've had they've all said the (12:24) same thing and they all say book and I shared this in my previous episode how I have some (12:30) resistance to that but something that was shared within this particular reading is that the book (12:36) is more poetic and I think this is something that I have realised within my work is that I've been (12:43) so on the track of marketing and feeling a little bit of resistance to that and even in naming my (12:50) latest programme the marketing muse I had this resistance even around using the word marketing (12:56) within it and I was like I love the name marketing muse maybe I should make my business that maybe I (13:01) should make that my whole ethos and something was just resistant within me and I couldn't figure (13:07) it out because I love marketing as you know I share about it very passionately on here (13:11) and when I'm working with people on their marketing I find so much joy in it but I also think there's (13:19) been a part of me really wanting to almost create this supplement of marketing where it supports (13:26) my creative work and a few years ago when I went through a very dramatic heartbreak that you know (13:34) the kind where you literally feel like your heart has actually snapped into and I shared the story (13:41) of when I drove my van into the forest and I was just writing for days and days and days by the (13:46) and I actually ended up writing the basis of a book and I kind of wrote it and then as I started (13:53) to heal from the heartbreak I very much put it in the drafts but at that time I'd gone and spent (13:59) new year's eve a little while after in a cabin I don't even know where it was it was just in the (14:05) middle of nowhere and I spent new year's eve by myself and I was writing there but what I was (14:11) actually doing was turning those words into assets and things that I could share and I shared (14:18) them online and not in these spaces just kind of like in the online sphere outside of my typical (14:24) social media channels and of course I went consistent with that for a little bit and then (14:29) I just left it alone and honestly completely forgot about it and then when the psychic said (14:35) this I was like huh that's funny because I've kind of already done that and she was like okay (14:39) and after that call I went back and I had a look at some of the things I shared (14:47) and they had gone pretty viral which is like so classic isn't it I feel like a lot of people (14:52) really try to go viral and they really look at their metrics and over analysing it whereas I (14:56) just like never have that intention I just share because I love to share and then you know a lot (15:01) of the time it barely gets any recognition and I'm like oh well I still love it anyway (15:04) but with this it had really kind of blown up and I was like oh that's interesting because I (15:11) realised in that moment that a big part of my belief is that I can't be working on that kind (15:18) of stuff because it doesn't bring me in the money and it's not a part of my business and it doesn't (15:23) necessarily make sense and there's so many blurred lines around it that I feel resistant to it (15:30) and when I went back to this I was like there is something in this and there is also something in (15:38) exactly where I am in life at the moment where I'm not heartbroken I'm actually not sorry to share (15:44) my love life on here but I'm not really dating and there is this kind of space where it feels like (15:52) the next part of the book needs to be written I envision this in kind of three phases of like (15:59) going through that heartbreak being in that state of waiting for love and then one day having that (16:05) love and it just all started to land so deeply within me of like this space is being granted to (16:13) me at the moment and I have seen this a lot on social media about the fact that you know a lot (16:19) of people who are here to birth this new world are intentionally being given space at the moment (16:24) I even think things like AI taking a lot of jobs and taking a lot of like the things that we spend (16:31) our time on is intentional as well I shared on here that I had a a corporate client that once (16:37) said to me you know AI is either going to be utopian or dystopian and we get to reshape that (16:43) we get to choose which direction it goes in and I very much feel like I am being gifted the kind (16:50) of space even being pulled back to my parents house which was so bizarre like I remember thinking (16:56) like why am I being pulled here why am I coming back to this space you know I have a lovely place (17:02) down in Cornwall by the water like why am I not there and I think it's because like I've shared (17:07) a lot living alone and living away from your family like it does take a lot it takes a lot (17:11) on your nervous system you know even things of like when you get sick there's this element of (17:16) panic and there's this struggle in really taking care of yourself but when I got sick here I didn't (17:21) panic at all I was just safe and watercolouring and just like being in this creative energy (17:27) and I'm starting to see how all of the things arrive together and are very much creating this (17:32) intentional space whereas as young as possible all I ever said I wanted to do was to be a writer (17:39) and to travel the world I feel like I've really checked that one but it was to be a writer and (17:45) my mum was even sharing this the other day she's like I find this so interesting how you have (17:48) like kind of woven in and out of this writer journey and it feels like you are being called (17:56) to actually give it the attention it deserves and in doing so to rewire that this can't be my work (18:04) you know like I said I love marketing I want to do it I pour so much of my time and energy into it (18:09) because I want to but also there is this part of me that does feel denied because it feels like (18:14) I'm writing for my marketing and actually not giving space to the creative really heartfelt (18:21) deep words that are slain dormant in my journal and I think that the fact that I logged in and (18:29) I saw that a lot of these words had gone viral was kind of the nudge I needed and what I'm kind (18:34) of looping back to here sorry I've gone on a big tangent is that I would not have reached this space (18:41) where I'm currently writing a book which feels weird to say out loud but actually technically (18:44) I've been writing a book for years and I've also had another idea land of a book that I also want (18:51) to write and it's funny because as I said I had so much resistance around like being told you're (18:57) supposed to write a book so I was like leave me alone but actually in the space it's all coming (19:02) through so clearly and I'm loving it I'm spending like all my mornings and my evenings at my desk (19:06) writing and pouring into it in a way that I could only dream of like it feels so beautiful (19:12) and I wouldn't have reached that space if I didn't just not be pushing forward so much and (19:19) that's not to say that we need to be dramatic and we need to quit everything and let everything fall (19:23) away if that's how it happens I know that's very much been the way things have happened for me (19:26) not necessarily by choice in the past then so be it but I'm kind of in this space at the moment where (19:32) you know I'm really tending to my nervous system of doing this marketing work and supporting myself (19:38) financially and also giving myself enough space where these visionary ideas can really come (19:44) through where those little nudges and niggles that we just ignore in the day-to-day when we (19:50) busy ourselves with so many other things actually get the attention that they need because something (19:56) I am really rooted in at the moment is now is the time for us to not just be imagining a new way (20:03) yes we need the space to really let those ideas land but to also be exploring and experimenting (20:09) with them I think many of us have been like right I'm going to start my own business I'm going to (20:14) opt out of the corporate and deny the status quo and set my own standard and then have very much (20:21) found ourselves back in similar cages that we've escaped from you know like running our businesses (20:26) with all of these rules and all these set ways of doing things and outsourcing our genius externally (20:32) and I feel like we're really being called full circle in that to be like actually what do we (20:38) really want to be doing can we allow for space so that we can root into that and for it to come to (20:45) life and can we explore can we add this element of play to things because I really think that I (20:53) know for myself as a creative and for many of the people listening to this episode we need more (20:59) space than the world tends to grant us we need more of these fertile voids where we can explore (21:06) and we can really let things land and where we're not always pushing forward and I think this is (21:12) uncomfortable because we don't necessarily have the guarantee that in doing so we will be able to (21:17) financially support ourselves and we will be able to build businesses and take care of ourselves (21:23) and you know all the different elements that are very much the human part of us that is still (21:29) relevant and necessary and I'm really like trying to rewire the part that there's nothing wrong (21:36) in doing so there's nothing wrong in like not pushing forward on my business growth at the (21:40) moment there's nothing wrong with you know something's not working out because I'm actually (21:44) being granted space instead there's nothing wrong with not having the answers and I think this is (21:50) something that I'm realising with visionaries is that you know we really have to break out of the (21:54) confines and we know this we speak on it all the time but we really have to be deeply embodying it (22:01) it's one thing to know it like I used to always speak on like how I'd found freedom in my business (22:06) and how I was doing what I love and actually beneath the surface of that was still very much (22:11) in this corporate mindset and in this process of really rewiring that and I think that visionaries (22:18) have to think so far out of the box and we need a lot of space to be able to do that we exist a lot (22:24) of the time in our imagination in our journals in being in our body and when we're always pushing (22:32) forward we're always on we're always churning out we really don't have the space that we need (22:38) to fully be in that visionary energy that I believe now is really the time to be in service of (22:47) we're speaking a lot about how like influencer era is collapsing a lot of people are losing their (22:53) jobs a lot of the things that were working are not working anymore people are doing drastic (22:57) things like deleting social media it's not even drastic but it feels it because we're in this (23:03) revolutionary time where I believe it's now visionaries time to really step forward and I (23:08) shared this at the start of the year how 2026 is the year for visionaries and I feel like I shared (23:13) that but like wasn't fully stepping into it myself which does make sense because it's in the depths (23:18) of winter and I very much believe that new year starts in spring and it's so funny that I am (23:24) sharing this episode at that time and really anchoring into this energy now and I sat down (23:30) at the mic today with this strong pull but people need to hear this in this moment so that is where (23:36) you meet me and as always I'd love to know how this lands for you if there's anything you want (23:40) to share how you feel about taking space and whether you've been able to really grant it for (23:45) yourself and
