Well, welcome back y'all to Coffee Talk with the Cajun Mamas. We have a very special guest in our house today. This is Kaitlyn Thibodeau. Hello, hello, she's our grand sponsor.
Speaker 2:Our grand sponsor. Yes of November.
Speaker 1:So Kaitlyn is with Evolve Athletics. That's located at 230 North Main Street in Church Point, and this gym is dear to our heart because it's how we came to be, it's how we came together it is the beginning of the story for the cajun mamas it's true, y'all heard us talk about how we met before, and this gym is where we met now. I wouldn't call that. Back then. We were a boot camp first, right, and then we transitioned to a crossfit gym and I'm saying we like this is.
Speaker 3:Absolutely. It's definitely a group effort.
Speaker 1:And then now we're transitioning from CrossFit to Evolve Athletics. That's right, yes. So let me just say a few little things before we get started this conversation. So Evolve Athletics is here to offer you more than just a gym. Okay, they by providing accountability and a community and to have fun in your workouts Mostly fun.
Speaker 3:Mostly fun.
Speaker 1:Oh, sorry my alarm. That's my alarm to go get my children from school, but I got that taken care of, so don't worry about it. Anyway, yes, and so they have. At Evolve there's a variety of different programs. Okay, we have cross-training. We have personal training sessions available, high-intensity, strength, endurance, bodybuilding, Pilates, Y'all something for everybody.
Speaker 2:And you know what? I can't make it to the gym right now with my baby, so Kate sends me at home programming which is perfect for me and my husband in our phase of life right now. So if you are not local, y'all contact Caitlin Thibodeau and she is going to get you the perfect at-home workout that you can do. No problem, yes, anybody can do it.
Speaker 3:It's true, and I love doing that, because I send you yours, which is like postpartum workouts, and then I send Chase his. He's a little bit more competitive, so his is, you know, just a whole level of different. You know movements and intensity, so, and they know, I'm going to check in on them.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and she does. It's the accountability. It's really the accountability that has kept us going for so long.
Speaker 2:I mean six years, right?
Speaker 3:Yeah, you know, six years, that's crazy to think about, and that's why it is. It is all of ours, you know it is a family thing now.
Speaker 1:All right, y'all. So just real quick. You can contact Caitlin Thibodeau on Facebook at their, at her personal page or the Evolve Athletics page Brand new Evolve Athletics page on.
Speaker 2:Facebook book. So this episode is about health and wellness and why it's so important to us as parents, as mamas, as not parents anybody on the face of the earth needs to be, you know a little more, a little concerned, or you probably are a little concerned about your health and wellness, Like it's important to you, Right?
Speaker 1:So that's what we're going to be talking about today. Yes, yes, and I think, especially as women I mean we're not trying to like not talk about the men, but from our experience as women and as mamas and all the roles we play in life, like I can clearly see how being active in the gym has helped me to be able to cope with things and and pick up on my kids and pick up on that big laundry basket and pick up on all them big merch uh boxes I haven't been able to do that I know, and so that's one of the first things I feel like I learned by going to the gym with you was that these movements are about everyday life type movements Functional, functional.
Speaker 3:That's what we call that? Yes.
Speaker 1:Absolutely. And like how you know when you get older. And you, what if you fall on the floor Right? How are you going to get up off the?
Speaker 3:floor.
Speaker 1:A burpee, a burpee Right.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I'm like burpees is how you fall and you get back up. It's true.
Speaker 3:And it's so basic that babies do it like yeah, you know like they just wait.
Speaker 2:They wake up one day and they're like trying to get up. They. That's what Cruz does. Cruz burpees up for everything and I'm like, you see, it's so easy for him because he's not right, you know like a bigger person, but yeah, you know it is. It's something a squat you see, baby squat all the time. It's something that you just like you need to do all the time, and just doing it every day or at least three times a week is just.
Speaker 3:At least you know. It's important. You know, and just speaking of all, that we have so many generations in the gym, so we have kids that come with their parents and the parents bring their parents. So we have the grandparents and you ask, you know, ask our grandparents, you know what do you do this for? It's not to get a heavier deadlift or a heavier squad or to run faster. It is literally so they can keep up with their grand, their grandkids and you know we're all doing it together, right?
Speaker 3:right one of my favorite videos ko you sent me a long time ago. You were playing in the yard, I remember that and she went and she's running after and she grabs her and she does what we call a thruster, where she just squats down, picks her up over her head and she's real.
Speaker 2:That was real.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I remember that and she was like I want to do this because you know, I want to keep doing this in the gym, because I want to be able to do this with her for as long as possible absolutely yeah, and that is what it's about. I'll carry my seven-year-old around almost eight yeah so she's like mom, mom, hold me, I can't. You know, I'm not going to say no, I can't, you're too heavy.
Speaker 2:No, baby, I'm going to hold you. I'm going to hold you as long as I can, as long as you want me to hold you.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you want to be able to, it's true. Yeah, I made a joke the other day. Well kind of a know and I want to still be able to pack them around like a sack of potatoes, so I can carry that thing.
Speaker 2:You can carry both of them at the same time, Ooh Lord.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's scary. That's scary. I know I'm going to start with the 50 pound one, but that's just the fruit to show you. Like that, it's not just about gain. I mean, like you know, gaining the looks and the muscle, although that's a byproduct and that's very nice to have.
Speaker 1:But really, when you start thinking about your future and long term and we make jokes like all the time we did a video recently we was like oh, the weather must be changing, my knees hurting and my elbows hurting and stuff and we like thinking about getting older Cause we really just oh, we old souls you know, but we, I'm thinking I don't want, and my parents too, you know, like I don't want them to have to go to the nursing home.
Speaker 1:You know I want them to be able to and myself to be able to live freely, independently for as long as possible. So even just not doing necessarily hard, intense workouts, but like Pilates, you know, like stretching, staying mobile and stuff that how important that is Exactly yeah.
Speaker 3:We have a lot of mottos, we have a lot of things that we say regularly in the gym. One of them is you know, the goal is to keep you guys out of the nursing home because they, statistically, muscle mass starts dropping off, especially for women, like in your thirties at an astonishing rate.
Speaker 1:It's so true.
Speaker 3:And going into the nursing home. A lot of times it happens when an elderly person, or just anyone, can't support their body weight anymore. You have a fall they can't get up Right. And so then the family has to face a decision Like are we going to take on the care of that, which is, these days, we all work?
Speaker 2:That's very hard.
Speaker 3:You know, are we going to find a caregiver? Well, if we can help people maintain their muscle mass and be able to hold up their own bodies for longer, then we can avoid that process of moving into the nursing home. So you know, that is what we try to say.
Speaker 3:Hey, start now learn how to do these things correctly avoid injury, keep your muscle mass up. It is not always about body fat loss, and that's something that I think is a misconception when you join the gym. Most people join because they want to lose body fat. Right, that's the first goal in mind. But as they go through the process of it, they realize like, wow, it does feel good to be able to bring all my stuff onto the beach in one trip. Right, it feels good to?
Speaker 1:yeah, it does feel good to be able to bring all my stuff onto the beach in one trip, right.
Speaker 3:It feels good to pass the mirror and feel confidence and it feels good to meet new people with you know the same goals in mind and they're here to support me and cheer me on and have a spot to put my kids in the child care room Because you know, sometimes you need an hour to yourself.
Speaker 2:And you do? And do you know what I like, you know what I like to go to the gym for? Make sure I can still clean my house.
Speaker 1:And since I'm talking about cleaning, our second sponsor of the month we got longs products out of uh Alexandria, louisiana.
Speaker 2:It's a family owned and operated Louisiana business since 1950. They're in their third generation of operation and y'all these people are golden. They're so sweet, love them. Okay, so they have a Pelican brand chemical product household cleaner that is so popular on TikTok. They make it right there in central Louisiana. The Pine All 80 is my favorite to mop my house, your house.
Speaker 2:I love the way your house smells whenever I go, oh it smells just like your mama was cleaning the house, I swear. And then housekeeping number one a toilet ring remover. Digest, Digest, Digest. I think it might be called Digest or something. I think we're thinking about that all.
Speaker 1:Oh, yeah, yeah, that essential all.
Speaker 2:They have a showroom that's open to the public right off of I-49, exit 83. And they stock cleaning chemicals, mops, brooms, trash bags, to-go plates, fall film almost anything you can think about. That's good. Check them out at longspsproductscom Uh, definitely on the TikTok shop. That's one of my favorite places to shop longs Amazon and you can find them on all the socials at longs products. Yes, very good, okay so we talked about how the nursing home Okay.
Speaker 2:Here's something that people bring up all the time when they think about joining the gym. You know where I'm going with this.
Speaker 3:Give it to me.
Speaker 2:The people bring up all the time when they think about joining the gym. You know where I'm going with this. Give it to me the money. It's so expensive, but you know what I tell them. Yeah, you know what. It might be expensive, but it's an investment into you. You invest into things all the time. You buy groceries, you buy this, but investing in yourself is the best. It's your own insurance. You know what I'm saying. And then one day you might not be paying that big old medical bill because you took care of yourself.
Speaker 3:Right, you were proactive about it, so it's saving you money in the long run, exactly, and I have to break it down to people like this because it really can't you. You think that big chunk of money's going at one time, but it really comes down to buying a coffee at the coffee shop a day. That's what it costs to come to the gym.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 3:So yeah, like I know there's things that we want to do. If we want to travel, we have to cut other places Right. So it is. It is an investment. It's something that you know you have to put that money towards and know that it'll save you in the long run. But it's not that big if you look at like the daily expense and what you're getting back from it and we used to have one set price point. But I'm all about, you know, evolving to fit the needs of my clients.
Speaker 3:I love the name, yes, so you know I listen to what people want and I realize, you know not everybody can manage it at the one price point. So we've changed it. You can be an unlimited member, which is the highest price point. It's $125 a month. It also comes with a key card because we want it to really be worth your while to have to pay that amount. Um, but we go all the way down to like you can just come once a week.
Speaker 3:I always tell people if you can get to me once a week and then go walk the other days. You know that way, you have that accountability and make sure you're staying active. So, we have different price points for however many times you want to be with us. Um cause it is. It's not a one size fits all approach and you know I can work with that.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I just want to make sure that you're being active, you're getting to us. Whether it's once a week, seven days a week, I'll make sure it fits your. You know your budget and your goals Right and.
Speaker 2:I just like I can't stress that enough. Some people are like, well, that's just too expensive. I say, well, you know what else is expensive Heart?
Speaker 3:disease. Medical bills you know medical bills.
Speaker 2:These are all things that you know may end up happening, but why don't you try to be proactive?
Speaker 3:I don't know Like I'm a big girl. I do work out, though I do, so you know I is the first program or the only program that they've stuck to yeah, it is long time right absolutely consider if you've tried other programs or you've tried. Listen. There's so many great options in town and I love all of them. I'm friends with all of the other fitness owners in town. They're great. But if you're throwing money at it and you're not using it, then it's costing you anyway.
Speaker 1:Right, that was me before I started with you and and the like, the accountability. The certain times too, like class times. It's nice to be able to have that key key card to go whenever I can fit it in, but for me, if you want, that needs accountability and know that your class is waiting on you, so you're going to be at a specific time and you're going to get a call or a text from Kate like hey, you weren't at 430 today, like what's going on, or whatever.
Speaker 3:That is what made me stick with it, and it's not just me. You're going to get a message from your friends. You come into the gym today, right, we all, we all just kind of like bond together and hold that accountability for each other. So yeah it is, you're paying for more than just a gym membership. There is so much that comes with it, including the community, and fun.
Speaker 2:We do try to keep it fun.
Speaker 3:We want to make sure that you're enjoying what you're doing, which is why we offer all the programs, because we understand the cross training which is our CrossFit program that we're doing. I love it. You know I'm a diehard CrossFitter. I always will be, but that's not everyone's, you know.
Speaker 3:Bread and butter some of them really just enjoy doing the strength training, so we have a program just for that. Some of them just want to do the cardio, or they don't want to hang on a rig and work on pull-ups, and that's okay. So we have, we've pulled those pieces out where we can offer just that piece to you, if that's where you're happiest. Yeah, so everyone can find their place there, find their their friends and you know, see results, enjoy doing, be happy with it absolutely.
Speaker 2:This might be a good time to um talk about southern medical training yes, y'all okay.
Speaker 1:So we have uh. One of our sponsors this month is southern medical training. They offer uh in-person phlebotomy training as well as online training. Ok, so you go to learn to stick dot com and you're going to find all the information about this he offers. Well, they offer other curriculums like home medical assistant, ekg, patient care tech. They're accredited through the NHP and approved by the state of Louisiana. They're accredited through the NAHP and approved by the state of Louisiana. They have in-person classes in Welsh Louisiana on Monday and Tuesday evenings, and also some online trainings are available. There's a special going on in November and December too, that you can get your whole training course for $500. So, yes, look into that. Okay, you can call 337-275-7562 or go to learntostickcom.
Speaker 2:And that's learn two oh number two.
Speaker 1:Thank you for saying that. Number two, and that's Southern Medical Training. Thank y'all so much for being a sponsor of Coffee.
Speaker 2:Talk with the Cajun Mamas. Thank y'all so much.
Speaker 1:Now, I wanted to talk about this. Let's do it. The mental aspect of being active. How important.
Speaker 2:It's so important.
Speaker 1:Let me tell you, when I miss the gym, when I go, like if I'm sick or something and I miss a week, I see it in my mood, I feel it in my bones, I feel it everywhere and there's something about going and being active that is so good for your mood and your mind and stuff.
Speaker 2:Talk about that, tell us about that. Oh man, I mean, I feel it, I know it, you know.
Speaker 3:I really think that this is probably the most important part of it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, agree, honestly Agree.
Speaker 3:Honestly, I think this is the most, because I mean you think about it like when you're not in the gym, a lot of us are thinking I need to be there right there's things that I want to change about myself, to feel better about myself I mean that's just the beginning of it. Yeah, but you do. I'm someone that has suffered with anxiety my whole life, um, and then with my children. That was the first time I'd experienced, you know, depression. I wasn't clinically postpartum, but you know, you really get those baby blues.
Speaker 1:You feel that Absolutely yeah.
Speaker 3:I had to be out of the gym and y'all, it made a difference. It made such a difference and so I'd have to like go walk and stuff. But being in the gym and addressing you know, or learning to breathe through difficult things, crosses over directly into my everyday life. When things get tough, right, I can use those same strategies for breathing through those hard moments.
Speaker 1:And you don't. I like, I'm just like realizing this, as you say in this, but it mentally prepares you for hard things. It does and you don't even realize it until like, yeah, like I've done way worse, I've done way harder things, I can do this.
Speaker 3:You know, tell me what's harder than doing 100 burpees for time, Sarah, oh my gosh.
Speaker 2:That was. Let's talk about that for a second. So the first time we, when I first started the gym, I was thinking like this Okay, I'm back where I was. I had two babies since in the six years. So, we working on it, we will get back there, and if we don't, you know what? I'm happy working out and whatever. But when I started, okay, I almost forgot about it.
Speaker 2:Like, I'll never forget that Okay so she pulls out like we this is only my second boot camp, Okay, Cause we would do like six week courses three times, whatever we go and she brings us all to the high school track and she's like we get to the track.
Speaker 3:They knew we meant business.
Speaker 1:Yeah, the track workouts were always. They were so hard. We don't go to the track anymore, don't worry.
Speaker 2:We used to. We used to. They were fun, though we enjoyed them. Um, and she, she pulls out this and she says a hundred burpees and I'm like oh no, not me, she did say that out, loud, not not me I'm not doing a hundred burpees. And then she's like, yeah, yeah, you are. And I'm like, but so at this point I'm like, okay, am I going to run away, Like am I going to it's fight, or flight right, can I leave away?
Speaker 3:like am I gonna it's fight or flight right, can I leave?
Speaker 2:yeah, am I gonna leave or am I gonna fight through this? So I'm I'm telling her like, okay, I need modifications for this because, like I can't do 100 burpees, she's like, yes, you can she gave me everything.
Speaker 3:There was tears, oh.
Speaker 2:I cried.
Speaker 3:She said I'm in a wedding this weekend. They're gonna see scrapes on my knees. I said, yes, babe, but you earned them. Let them know where you got them and they can come oh my god, the bruises that I had on my knees on that first birthday, the whole. And she said this is a joke this is a joke, right, I said it's not a joke. No, it's not a joke. Y'all close the gate.
Speaker 2:We're not leaving here till we finish yeah, and I I seriously thought about leaving, but I'm like you, you're gonna act like that, you're really gonna leave in front of all these people you know.
Speaker 3:So real quick that is how a lot of people feel in that moment is how people feel just walking into the door.
Speaker 2:Yeah so.
Speaker 3:I really want you to tell people how you felt after that.
Speaker 2:Well, we had a time cap, so thankfully, we had 15 minutes Okay.
Speaker 3:You get done what you can do in 15 minutes, I got 75 burpees done.
Speaker 2:Did I cry the whole time? Absolutely, but did I do it? Yes, and you know what? I went back and I kept coming back and I was proud of myself and I went to that wedding when my knees all scraped up and I felt good in my dress. You know what I'm saying Because of the work I had been doing in the gym, but that's a story I tell all the time. Well, when I used to coach, I was like you know what? This is what happened. I might look like because I was all toned and hot. You know I might look like I know what's going on right now, but let me tell you what. I was crying a couple of months ago, a couple years ago, doing burpees. If she would tell me to do 100 burpees now, don't put it in my programming, I might put it in her programming, I would. It's not a problem, because I've already I've already.
Speaker 2:I've already tackled that I've I've done a hundred burpees.
Speaker 1:She tackled the hard stuff. That shows you how much.
Speaker 2:In 15 minutes, like I've done the whole thing before, in less than 15 minutes at my best.
Speaker 1:You know what I'm saying, so I know I can do it Right. That shows you how much it mentally helps. You know that you can do hard things right like, not gym related.
Speaker 3:Even you know when you show up you're not alone no, you're looking around at other people who are thinking the exact same matter of fact I remember everyone looking at you like if she leaves, I'm going, I'm following her.
Speaker 3:Yeah, except for they wasn't crying out loud, you know, but they probably wanted to so you're not alone and so I know a lot of my friends locally know that.
Speaker 3:You know I recently have gone through a really hard time.
Speaker 3:I lost my mom and just the community aspect of this. You know I took the week off of work, we planned all of the funeral things and there was just this daunting feeling of you know I've got to go back and face people and you know I've got to go back and do my job and normal things. But when you walk into that gym and there's prayers written on the board for you because they know you need to see it, and there's hugs waiting for you and you know that when you go to do your first workout it's going to feel like the first time ever but you're never going to be alone in it. That is a big piece for me when it comes to mental health, that the reason I'm able to keep going and to keep getting through this is the community that's standing behind me in that place, in that gym, whether you're in the gym or you're working out from home. Yeah, you know, I know you've got my back and I know you know, I've got yours and that's how we all are together.
Speaker 1:And I guess like we hope that, like people for people listening that are not local, I just hope that maybe this inspires you to take that first step to finding your community to finding your, your, your group, your gang, your, your friends, your, your support system. Do it do it scared, do it scared. You are going to surprise yourself with what you can do.
Speaker 3:The hardest part is getting started, always. That's another model we use. The hardest part is walking through the door. Yeah, um, but you'll never regret it.
Speaker 2:No.
Speaker 3:And even if you have to stop, it's hard to come back but, do it again. Yeah, do it anyway. Come back as many times as it takes.
Speaker 1:Yeah, like we in in this, for like I like this, I like to think about it, like I'm in this for life. You know if I fall, get off the bandwagon, miss a week, miss a month, whatever, which I will not do, never miss a month.
Speaker 2:No, a month's too long.
Speaker 1:But anyway, I'm like I'm going to start over. I'm going to start over because I'm in. I'm in this for life to stay fit and active through my life.
Speaker 3:That's so important I do, I think, the mental health part of fitness in general. And there's studies. Look, I thought about bringing y'all some research numbers and said, no, we're not going to do it that way.
Speaker 2:We're just going to speak from the heart today.
Speaker 3:But you can do it. You can research the health benefits for your mental health that you know, the release of cortisol and all those good things. Um, it's there. You can see it. It's been prescribed by my counselor personally that I must work out weekly you know to help me with the anxiety and those things that I've.
Speaker 3:You know I've gone through and so yeah, I can't recommend it enough for that. Now we'll say this, cause we're talking a lot about community and I've had members who say I want to do your program, I want to be a part of it, but I'm not a people person Like.
Speaker 3:I'm not, I don't have that drive to be a part of a community. That's okay too. That's where the personal training comes in. That's where the personalized programming from home comes in. Very true, and you can still get the accountability without the group setting. You know, or I'll tell them. Well, this is when our least amount of people are in our gym. You can come at this time. So I'm not saying you don't have to be a people person to join, but if you are that's a good point to make.
Speaker 1:You should give it a try. Yeah, and we didn't talk about this, but I just want to touch on it real quick. But you offer nutritional counseling too. We do, and that is huge too, because, oh my Lord, we do.
Speaker 2:And that is huge too, because, oh my Lord, you know, for all the reasons that we said you need to work out is all the reasons you need to be on your nutrition too, because right now I'm like inflamed and I feel it you know.
Speaker 1:But somebody starting out that, like I know I need to eat better, I just don't know what I got to do. Do I have to just eat broccoli and chicken breast? If you don't know, you know there's. You're available to offer that guidance, you know, and you don't have to like when I switch from like thinking I'm going on a diet to lose weight to I'm going, this is the way I eat now to be healthy whatever that mindset switch, you help me make that mindset switch.
Speaker 3:so it is, it's a, it's a lifestyle change. For sure we don't have to call it diet.
Speaker 1:Diet is, we don't use that word and the word die is in there, oh yeah, let's just say.
Speaker 3:Let's just say lifestyle change, right um, I get to do this. That's what we have to remind ourselves, but the, if you look at like the pyramid of importance of you know, your fitness or your health and wellness, nutrition is the first thing.
Speaker 3:It is foundational, like you can't out train a bad diet. I'm going to be honest Now. I do have people who say, hey, I don't need to be, you know, full of the muscle and I'm okay with my body fat percent. I'm here to work out because for my mental health or for the community, and that's okay. That's to work out because for my mental health or for the community, and that's okay. That's, that's what they want to do.
Speaker 1:but you know, everyone should at least one time, get with a nutritional counselor and help guide and learn about the right macronutrients and like just what your body needs to feel. Your best.
Speaker 3:What does overeating, what does under eating? Look like you know, um, and then helping people understand that we want a well-rounded diet, or you know nutrition plates.
Speaker 3:You know we don't want to overdo it in one thing and underdo it in another thing, um, especially if you are working out consistently, it needs to be more of like a balanced approach, right? Um, there are different things for people who have you know more specific needs, um, but yeah, I try to help people understand that and it doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs to be consistent. Like, consistency of a well-rounded a plate is what we're looking for overall, but yes, we do offer that as well. I don't push it on social media as much. It is a lot of work.
Speaker 3:It's a lot of that's where I'm working with people, more one-on-one yeah, tailored, but I have tried to get at least every person in my gym to go through the nutrition program with me at least once and then you know if they can learn the material. Then they go off on their own and they continue. They don't need me to keep going right now um, but yes, it is something that is worth looking into it's very really into yeah consistency is key with the gym and with nutrition.
Speaker 2:It's also important to be consistent in your house cleaning.
Speaker 1:Yes, why yes?
Speaker 2:it is so always remember that Long's Products is here, a family owned and operated Louisiana business since 1950. They are in their third generation of operation and they make their own household cleaners right there in Alexandria, louisiana, and you know what I love to see? Ryan has a TikTok. Okay, longs has a TikTok and he's so funny. He's got like a big, he's got big hair and he's always making funny TikToks.
Speaker 2:But my favorite ones are the ones when he's thanking everybody and he's got like shipments going out because of you know people seeingiktok orders you know, and that is just so near and dear to my heart because we, we family owned business you want to see people supporting local, supporting families, because you know we, we are the future okay, yeah, and he can give you, he, can he.
Speaker 1:He offers to like residential and also commercial, like he has commercial accounts too. So um you, you just contact him for all your cleaning needs oh, he's got what you need.
Speaker 3:Can he just come use the products in my house for me? Let's see if he can come to a demo for us that would be great. You know, we'll call him and ask him you know, the rainbow guys come in and they've got the mattress you know, if you just come to one suite, come off the house.
Speaker 1:Ryan Come on.
Speaker 2:All right. They have free delivery to commercial accounts and you can find them at LongsProductscom, on Amazon and definitely at the TikTok shop. You can find them on all the socials at LongsProductscom. Thank you so much for sponsoring Coffee Talk with the Cajun Mamas.
Speaker 3:I did want to mention just a couple of things that we've been doing lately that are, I guess, newer you could say we have our barbell club and we have been getting these teenagers in. We've been working on learning proper form for all of your foundational lifts so that way, when they get to high school or if they want to try out for a team, they can go in with confidence.
Speaker 3:Right so teaching them to do these things safely and they get a, you know, a leg up foundation, right, right, yeah, um, that has been so much fun, we're loving that. And then my husband just just started. We I mean, we actually haven't even posted on Facebook, so you guys are the first to hear this out loud. Um, a children's like martial arts class, mostly working on like how to fall without hurting themselves or how to protect themselves, things like that.
Speaker 3:Um so, jujitsu MMA, a little bit of that here and there, and it is so much fun. If you want some entertainment, if you really want to stay and watch small.
Speaker 3:I think we have like maybe 10 kids and we're doing our first round right now, but it is so fun to watch and the kids love it. It gives them. He's very patient, so he lets them jump around. He lets them you know, they do this thing where they like run up the walls and yeah he's way more patient than me when it comes because he's just a big kid and he he likes to play with them.
Speaker 1:We didn't even bring.
Speaker 2:Skeet up, not one time. He's going to get his own episode. He'll have to come.
Speaker 3:He'll have to come, he's going to get his own episode. So that's something you were doing that we're really excited about, so I wanted to throw that out there, if there's something that you're looking for your kids to do. He's been dabbling in martial arts for as long as I've known him. I think he started in college with judo. I think that's the one he started in college with, so yeah, and Pilates.
Speaker 2:Let's not forget about Pilates. Can we talk about Pammy? Oh my, gosh. She needs her own episode too.
Speaker 3:She needs her. Let's get her on here. I freaking love Pammy.
Speaker 2:Um, but she, she does the uh, she does the Pilates class and she is just like my heart. I just love me some hammy, but she's so good and like she's got a good little class. I hadn't been in a uh in a bit, but like when I, when I would go, she has her regulars yeah.
Speaker 3:Um, we're we're picking up some new ones here and there, but she's just a soothing person, that's just her personality, so she's very she fits well for this role. And, um, she, she's done pilates, I think, since before I was born. I mean, she's been doing pilates her whole life.
Speaker 1:Well, look at that bod oh, she's amazing, and there's those long, lean legs that she can just throw up oh yeah, in the air I'm like oh yeah, I always think I'm in shape until pam hits with some core work where she does like a double eight count.
Speaker 3:Oh yeah, I'm like. Oh yeah, I always think I'm in shape until Pam hits with some core work where she does like a double eight count. Oh yeah, I'm on the first set of eight and I'm I can't yeah, and. I'm like Pam is whipping me right now, but she's great.
Speaker 3:She knows a lot with style and class too, baby absolutely, and her lipstick on, oh, I love it and she sets the vibe, she puts the mute, the right music on, she hits the lights down low. Yes, and it's just very relaxing. All done from the seated in the lay down positions you don't have to worry about.
Speaker 2:You know, we're not slinging weights in there or anything for a class, it's just yeah, it's a great time right and I love that and um, and not to mention, you can modify any workout whatever you know like. For me, it's, all of my workouts have to be modified right now, postpartum, but it doesn't even matter Like they modify workouts.
Speaker 3:And we program a lot of Pilates for you with that.
Speaker 2:Yes, I get a lot of Pilates and. I'm okay with that. So Evolve Athletics y'all. That is our Grand Café. It's a café, it's a coffee, it's y'all.
Speaker 1:That is our grand cafe. It's a cafe, it's a coffee. It's a coffee, it's not a consang. Why?
Speaker 3:do we? I don't know. I said, oh, maybe I need to hit the gym a little more, I don't know.
Speaker 2:Okay uh, it's, it's evolved athletics located at 230 north main street in church point, louisiana. Um we, you know, we talked about what, what they offer, what we offer there.
Speaker 1:Yeah, what we offer.
Speaker 2:It's just a great place to work out, very near and dear to Cole and I's heart because you know that's where we met. Family, very family, very family. So y'all contact Caitlin Thibodeau, yes, and join the Evolve Athletics page and, like you said, if you're not local, but you want some nutrition counseling, some at-home programming.
Speaker 1:Get started on this health journey, y'all.
Speaker 2:You're not too far away, you're not no, it's so important it's confusing for people.
Speaker 3:We were CrossFit Church Point before this, so this is our new name.
Speaker 2:Evolve.
Speaker 3:Evolve Athletics. We have evolved and we chose the name because of what it says. I mean we've evolved over the last seven years as a gym. We'll continue to do that for our clients and help them evolve into their best lifestyle as well.
Speaker 2:And so, yeah, we have our own name. I love that. Well, thank you so much for being our Grand Cafe sponsor this month and thank you for listening to Coffee Talk with the Cajun Mamas.
Speaker 3:Thank you.
Speaker 2:Get out and walk to those mailboxes.
Speaker 1:Yeah, go walk to your mailbox. Okay, go up a flight of stairs instead of taking the elevator, Okay we love y'all and thanks for listening. We'll see y'all.
