Coffee Talk With The Cajun Mamas
How Well Do These Cajun Mamas Really Know Each Other?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Two friends take a playful deep dive into their friendship while competing for Blue Plate Mayonnaise bragging rights on this laugh-out-loud episode. When Sara's sister Lainey dons her official bow tie and transforms into gameshow host extraordinaire, the Cajun Mamas find themselves facing the ultimate friendship test: how well do they really know each other?
The competition begins with seemingly simple questions about favorite restaurants and TV shows, quickly revealing both surprising connections and hilarious misunderstandings. "Friends or The Office?" becomes an unexpected challenge when Sara and Koa realize they've been overthinking their answers by trying to predict each other's responses.
As the game shifts to "who's more likely" questions, listeners get genuine insights into their friendship dynamic - including Sara's competitive nature that Koa admits "took some getting used to" and their different approaches to food and punctuality. The most revealing moment comes during a discussion of Sarah's favorite relaxation method, where both friends perfectly describe her ritual of watching true crime shows while cuddling with her "tickle head" - a comfort blanket with decorative trim that she's maintained versions of since childhood.
Things get particularly animated during the "silliest argument" segment, where Sara confesses to once conceptualizing an entire jarred roux business that Koa talked her down from: "I spent a million dollars in my mind that day!" Their gentle ribbing and inside jokes create an atmosphere that makes listeners feel like they're eavesdropping on a heart-warming coffee date between lifelong friends.
Throughout it all, the episode showcases Blue Plate Mayonnaise - a Louisiana tradition since 1927 - whose egg-yolk-only recipe creates the perfect tangy base for authentic Cajun cooking from potato salad to po'boys. The competition may have ended in a tie, but the real winner is anyone looking for a genuine, laughter-filled conversation about friendship, Louisiana food culture, and what your mayonnaise preferences reveal about your personality.

Blue Plate Mayonnaise Sponsor Spotlight
Speaker 1Huh, I don't know. Let's talk about Blue Plate first. Blue Plate is our sponsor this month for Coffee Talk with the Cajun Mamas. Thank you so much for sponsoring our podcast. This is a Louisiana tradition since 1927, born in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Speaker 3That's right. Authentic Louisiana food starts with good mayonnaise, oh and donut. I know A nice BLT, oh yeah, simple sandwich. Or a po' boy dressed only in blue plate, dripping, dripping. Oh look, she's got a thing for the mayonnaise. How do?
Speaker 1you say mayonnaise, mayonnaise, mayonnaise.
Speaker 3Mayonnaise.
Speaker 1Mayonnaise, mayonnaise, mayonnaise, mayonnaise, mayonnaise. Yeah, I don't know Mayonnaise.
Speaker 2Say mayo, yeah, mayonnaise, or mayo for short.
Speaker 1So it's perfect for authentic Cajun cooking. Potato salad, po'boys, room a lot, oh, so good. They even have an amazing tortoise sauce. I brought their tortoise sauce to Easter and we fried fish and everybody's like what did you mix with your tortoise sauce?
Speaker 3I'm like I didn't have to, it came out the bottle.
Speaker 1It came out the bottle like that Good. You know like you have to mix your tortoise, yeah you got to make it. So y'all hit up blueplatecom.
Speaker 3Blueplatemayocom friend.
Speaker 1Blueplatemayocom, and y'all get yourselves some. There's all kinds of different products, yeah, so y'all check it out. And blueplatemayocom, that's the good stuff. That's the good stuff. All right, let's get to some more good stuff.
Speaker 3Okay. So I got to say like I'm almost a little nervous because if I don't know the right answers, you're going to think I'm not your friend.
Speaker 1No, because I don't know, I'm just thinking like things about you.
Speaker 3I'm like I don't know if I know that it's going to be fine, it's going to be like we do it, it's for fun.
Speaker 1All right.
Speaker 3Get started.
Friend Knowledge Quiz Begins
Speaker 1All right. So this first question is about Sarah. So, Koa, you're going to answer the question and Sarah's going to answer the question about herself as well, right? And then we'll see if the answers match Match. Okay, here we go. We'll start off easy. What? Is Sarah's favorite TV tv show? She got a bunch. I know you don't even know how to answer that. Okay, I don't know what my favorite tv show is. Okay, I'm just gonna um, I'm gonna write one and we'll see I can think of about three right now. Yeah, me too.
Speaker 3But okay, okay, ready, Ready, wait, do we do it at the same time? Yeah, reveal it, or me first. At the same time Okay, the office.
Speaker 1Koa wrote friends, sarah wrote the office. Probably a pretty good tie, right? Yeah, I feel like if this question were about koa, what would what would your answer be? Because I think I know seinfeld, yeah, yeah, yeah, would it be seinfeld?
Speaker 3yeah, probably because I don't watch much tv anymore these days. Yeah, but I have watched every episode, at least five or six. I definitely thought about that one, and I'm like I don't know what she's gonna.
Speaker 1Which one would she write?
Speaker 3yeah, it was going to be either Friends, the Office or Will Grace. Right, that was my favorite. What did you write, Lainey?
Speaker 1None of them. The Office, the Office. You did Okay. Okay, all right. Next, all right, sarah, this question is about Koa. What is her biggest pet peeve?
Speaker 3Oh, do I even know the answer to that?
Speaker 1You don't know what your biggest pet peeve is. Oh, oh, I don't know. I got a list of about 90 of them, I know, but yeah, oh my God, I don't know.
Speaker 3I don't know how to answer that either, so anything you say is probably going to be.
Speaker 1Y'all want to pass? Yeah, I want, probably gonna. Y'all want to pass? Yeah, I want to pass on that one. All right, okay, sarah. What is koa's favorite restaurant to eat at?
Speaker 3oh okay, um she's probably gonna put something that she don't like, like something stupid, healthy or something. But no, I didn't okay. Good, because if I meet now, no, we're cheating okay, ready. Oh, we're cheating. She said stop talking to each other ready okay dinos, oh, I should have known that dinos is my favorite place to eat out is your favorite place to eat out, sarah wrote zeus, your favorite place to eat out.
Speaker 1Sarah wrote Zeus it is wrong, it's wrong, it's wrong. Okay, she likes Zeus, you keeping track of who's getting more points.
Speaker 3Y'all are getting none, yeah we have none.
Speaker 1It's 0-0. The score is tied.
Speaker 2You trying to feel bad.
Speaker 1No, no, dang it. Okay, zeus, I can't believe I put that these are going to be questions about who is more likely to. Oh, okay, so you guys are going to answer. It's just going to be either you or you.
Speaker 2That's it. Okay, so we don't need to write this down necessarily. I like it.
Speaker 1Okay, who is better at dancing Me?
Speaker 3I don't agree with that. I don't agree. We both could dance.
Speaker 1Oh, y'all got some moves.
Speaker 3Uh-huh, I mean I can keep a beat. I like to move it.
Who is More Likely Competition
Speaker 1We're going to see how good we are soon with that dance you are better dancing than me, because then I'm thinking about that time we did Miss the Weatherall and you was dropping it low, yeah, but you did good too.
Speaker 3You was pregnant at the time, anyway, I still can't, though I don't have no excuses.
Speaker 1So, yeah, I guess we better go with Koa. All right, who's more likely to lose their keys? Sarah, oh, me for sure. And then cry about it and have a heart attack about it. Yes, who is always right? I feel like Koa, yeah I feel like koa's always right yeah I just have big ideas, but she knows that they're not going to get executed in the way like I try to take that idea and figure out how to actually execute it where it will work and happen yeah, where I spend a million dollars in my mind, you know so yeah, I'm gonna go with her.
Speaker 1Who's more likely to win a food eating contest? Oh, oh god, I don't know. You could put down it, yeah, but like you, you know, like your, your stomach is ready for it, because you have to eat so much food with the diet you want I'm not trying to be ugly, no, it's true, like, because when you count, when you count macros, you got to eat so much food to get protein and she gets hungry fast because she's used to having her snacks in the middle of the day.
Speaker 1You know I put down food but it's all the wrong things.
Speaker 3And it's like one meal, Like you eat one big meal.
Speaker 1Yes.
Speaker 3And. I'm eating like big, big and big throughout the day. I don't know, we both are good, we're just going to say Big, big and big throughout the day. I don't know, we both heard it good, we're just going to say you can just say what kind of food would you have at this contest?
Speaker 1Oh, I don't know. What kind of food could you put down I always think of.
Speaker 3I mean food like a hot dog. A hot dog yeah. So you're down your gullet, yeah, gullet. Where does that come from the office? Okay, I knew there was a reference. I was missing there. Oh my God, okay yeah, but I personally hope I would not ever want to do some type of eating contest.
Speaker 1No, thank you.
Speaker 3It grosses me out.
Speaker 1He grosses me out. Yeah, lainey couldn't be a part of it. She don't like to hear nobody eat. See, he grosses me out. Lainey couldn't be a part of it. She don't like to hear nobody eat.
Speaker 2That is my biggest pet peeve. If.
Speaker 1I have to hear somebody eat, or like crumple, a bag of chips, especially for all my high schoolers. If they putting their hand in the bag every time. I'm like, get a paper towel, get a paper towel and dump it out. You know, to you need to show them that little, uh, that little trick where you open up the back, the back of the bag of chips, like mama does straight out. Yeah, all right, y'all ready? Yep, okay, who's more likely to be late to an event?
Speaker 3me, sarah, although I was late this morning, that's like the first time ever. But that's the first time ever. Yeah, no, it's me.
Speaker 1Okay, who's the most competitive? Sarah, yeah, I am. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I am.
Speaker 3It actually took me a while to kind of get used to that in our friendship. And I'm just like I don't know, and not that you try to make everything a competition, but you're just like, if you're doing it, I'm going to do it, and I'm going to do it more than you.
Speaker 1Or I'm going to at least try to. Well, I've got to shoot for more, and then I end up getting about the same.
Speaker 3But in your mind you're doing it.
Speaker 1Like you set out.
Speaker 3You're like this is happening, Something's got to happen it. It might not be exactly what I. That's a self-motivation thing.
Speaker 1Because, I do the same thing with my coworkers and with you and with you at the gym. You know Like I used to always compare, but it wasn't to really compete, it was For yourself. Yeah, yeah, and I'm like, well, if she's going to do it, I'm doing it. She could do it, I could do it, that's how I know. Yeah, you know right. So it's nothing against you. It's just like we just do everything together. Now she already knows we about to go. Yeah, okay, who's more likely to cry during a sad movie? I'll cry for everything.
Speaker 1Shit, yeah, I'll cry for any although butterfly kisses the other night and I bawled my eyes out at that dance recital Not when none of my kids was in that me neither. You're getting soft.
Speaker 3I'm going to tell you I'm getting too soft, you're getting, I think, some of me is rubbing off on you, I think, so I don't know about that. She used to not like to feel her emotions no, she doesn't ever. And there's a couple times I've made her cry for a couple things and I'm, like you, getting soft.
Speaker 1And if I do cry, it's like a win for her.
Speaker 3She's like I know, I'm like, oh man, that was good.
Speaker 1Who's more likely to try a new, unusual food? Oh, oh, she's, yes, her. You remember when you tried that swirly thing at the Japanese restaurant? Yeah, I wouldn't go near that thing, no.
Speaker 3You did too. I just yeah, I don't mind, I like trying new weird food things.
The Tickle Head Revelation
Speaker 1I'll do it, but not like her. What is the silliest argument you've ever had? I don't know. One time I wanted to make jar of rue and you told me that that was not a good idea.
Speaker 3Oh yeah, Not just in general. She wanted to bottle it and sell it as Cajun Mama.
Speaker 1Rue and you were going to make it. She told me that I was going to make it.
Speaker 3She was like Lainy was behind me, like you, why?
Speaker 1you? Why are you not doing this? Why are you not about it? Like I spent like I did. I spent a million dollars in my mind that day and I was just like man.
Speaker 3There's so much other things that we could do and they have good jarred rue out there already yeah, and I'm like you gonna stand in your kitchen and make big thing, that's of jarroo. She's like no people's gonna do that for me and we're just gonna sell it. And I'm like and apparently it was me, it was me that was gonna do it, yeah I was just like, yeah, this is, this has been a great idea since 9 am and this is gonna work, but I mean
Speaker 2I wouldn't really call.
Speaker 1I mean, mean, obviously we didn't do that and I wasn't mad about it or nothing.
Speaker 2I was just like come on.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 1Koa, you have any?
Speaker 3I don't know. Sometimes she picks at me and I get too soft about it and I'm like, damn, that was mean why you used to. Okay, and I'll just be quiet about it, and then later she'll text me, I. And then later she'll text me, I'm sorry when I said you were boring, or something like that I did that the other night and I was just like I'm sorry.
Speaker 1I did that Because I could tell like she got. But you know, like we pick at each other and like she's a sister and I'm not trying to justify it, but like you and I, we are just we could be mean and so, like you're around me all the time, I'm gonna be mean to you and, and I think, maybe I, maybe I didn't have that growing up too, like being by myself.
Speaker 3Yeah, I didn't have that kind of sibling relationship and so it's. But I mean, I know you enough now, but sometimes I'm, yeah, that hurt. I mean quiet.
Speaker 1Okay, but you know Okay. Now we're going to go back to about one another.
Speaker 3I hope y'all are finding this as riveting as we are.
Final Questions and Blue Plate Thanks
Speaker 1Oh man, I'm really having fun with this.
Speaker 3Also more of like almost a you know how we did that episode where we were like frequently asked questions type of thing y'all just getting to know more about more about us our dynamic is a special one.
Speaker 1I tell you, alright, I'm gonna try to get one that y'all can. I know it's not your fault not say something dumb like I don't know it's not your fault.
Speaker 3We apparently just don't know our own selves enough.
Speaker 1Because y'all are thinking about what the other person is going to write. Just write down your first answer. Okay, I did, and it was Zeus and it was definitely wrong. All right, ready, ready, cobo. What is Sarah's favorite color? Color black? What pink is the correct answer?
Speaker 3pink does look great on you and I like when you wear pink, but I would not have picked that as your favorite color.
Speaker 1Black ain't even a color that as your favorite color black ain't even a color you're you're. You're a complex soul pink and teal are our colors.
Speaker 3That is true, pink and teal. Yes, we both love pink and teal.
Speaker 1We do we were like what's your favorite color? Pink and teal, both of us, I missed them. You were like the black outline that's the port seraphine.
Speaker 3No, that is not what I meant.
Speaker 1I'm just thinking, man she, she wears a lot of black like yeah, because I'm a thick girl and that's what looked good on me I'm fluffy.
Speaker 3Well, this is my zeus. Okay, this is, that was my zeus okay, okay, okay, okay, okay here I am picking on her though.
Speaker 1Okay, koa, what is Sarah's favorite type of music? I'm sorry, I forgot to switch.
Speaker 3Okay.
Speaker 1Sarah's favorite type of music.
Speaker 3Sarah's favorite type of music Rock.
Speaker 1Yes, all right, I've got one Ding, lainey Ding, that's Koa. One Sarah, zero. Okay, let's see, sarah, what is Koa's favorite thing to do on a Friday night? Okay, friday night, okay.
Speaker 3This is so lame of me, but Ready. What do I do every Friday night? Work out, yeah, work out.
Speaker 1Friday night lights at Evolve Athletics yes, work out, good job, okay. So Lights at Evolve Athletics yes, good job, okay. So Sarah won, koa won Look at us getting points on the board. I'll tell you what. Okay, okay. What is Koa's favorite holiday?
Speaker 3I need to change my answer. Christmas, christmas, all right, I put my birthday at first. I'm like, no, it's not really that's only one day.
Speaker 1Christmas is a vibe and, yes, I do love Christmas. Okay, what is Sarah's favorite thing to do to relax? I can be very descriptive with this. I already know.
Speaker 2I can be very descriptive with this.
Speaker 3I'm gonna be very descriptive can I tell y'all my answer.
Speaker 2Before y'all reveal, just let me know when y'all are ready.
Speaker 1I feel like we're going to have to do some explaining we will, okay, hold on. Just say it out loud and stop writing a book.
Speaker 3I'm almost done. You can't even read my writing, okay.
Speaker 1You want to say yours first, I want to say mine first and I want to see if it matches. Watch murder shows and tickle on her tickle, is that right? Mm-hmm?
Speaker 3Well, I just put what you did sit in bed or her recliner tickling on her tickle head watching true crime and what is your exact answer? Okay, you gotta know what you have to.
Speaker 1Now tell everybody what a tickle head is oh, y'all even got me better than me, okay? So my daddy, whenever I was little, I had some a baby blanket and it has some rick rack on the around it and I just rub it, you know, and he would do this with it. And he had a sheet and he would rub it on his face like that and he would do that and he would call it a tickle head. So we call my little blanket as a tickle head. Well, I'm 38 years old and that tickle head is no longer, but my nanny would make me new ones and new ones, and new ones. And the last tickle head that somebody made me, you made it for me whenever I had raw.
Speaker 1So I would have a nice presentable tickle head to bring to the hospital yep, because the rest was had holes and it was all.
Speaker 3The rick rack was coming off the sides and everything. But that's how you like them. You like when the rick rack, when they start coming off.
Speaker 1That's when they good and prime, you know. So I rub, I rub on a blanket, but I know that I ain't the only person that still does this. Okay, and we'll take it on a drive to Lafayette too, to make sure. Well, but I don't like to get all kind of germs over it, so I definitely make sure that I hand sanitize my hands Before you get to touch it Before I touch it but I don't bring it to lafayette all the time but long car trips, long car rides, though, for sure.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, long car rides. Yeah, I was a little haunt whenever I was gonna have to share a room with somebody and I was gonna have it, you know, like a hotel oh yeah, but then I was like ah, people do worse, uh, weirder stuffs, absolutely so. Anyway, there's the story of my tickle head. If you have some kind of bear or bunny or tickle, head blanket let us know in the comments.
Speaker 1If you don't say anything, I know you lie. Okay, now this is going to be about each other, okay, so write down an answer for yourself and your co-worker. Okay. What's their favorite thing about their job? Okay, wait what? What is koa's favorite thing about her job and what's your favorite thing about your? Okay?
Speaker 3I could be more like broad or specific, and I chose to go the specific route. Okay, what you got? Going thrifting, going thrifting. Yeah, we got it.
Speaker 1All right, we each have three Ding ding, so let's do a bonus round. Okay, to wrap it it. All right, we each have three, so let's do a bonus round. Okay, to wrap it up, All right, okay, whoever gets this next one is the ultimate winner. The winner Of best friends, who they get to bring that fresh Jorah Mann ass home.
Speaker 3Oh, and it belongs to you and it is actually mine, so I'm going to be fighting for it.
Speaker 1Okay, okay, which Hanson brother is the other's favorite? Okay?
Speaker 3What if we both?
Speaker 1got it.
Speaker 3Easy, yeah.
Speaker 1Yours is Zach too. We both were Zach lovers.
Speaker 3yeah, what about my baby Taylor? I love him, but I mean growing up.
Speaker 1Growing up. But if you want to know my favorite one, you know it's Zach. Yeah, okay, okay, man Still tired.
Speaker 3Try for something else.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 3Look, I'm using all areas of this board. I know you just gotta be so, so efficient.
Speaker 1Look, and I'm just like two answers.
Speaker 3Hmm, I'm stumped hmm, you're stumped you ain't got no more questions.
Speaker 1You ran out of questions I have more questions, but like none, that's none, that's going to be a tiebreaker.
Speaker 3Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1You know, because then I'm going to have to ask one of you, mm-hmm.
Speaker 3Okay, well, I mean, we could call it a tie.
Speaker 1We could call it a tie.
Speaker 3But we know that who's not going to be happy about that she's not getting my mayonnaise.
Speaker 1She is not getting my jar. A blue plate, it's coming home. A chance for the mayonnaise, oh well. Well, that was definitely fun. Thank you for putting so much time and effort into, yeah, doing this with us including the bow tie including the bow tie.
Speaker 1I don't know if any of y'all know, but that is a cork bow tie okay um, thank you so much, laney, for joining us today and being our game show host, and thank you to blue plate mayonnaise for sponsoring the cajun mamas coffee. We'll talk with the cajun mamas podcast today. Blue plate is a louisiana tradition since 1927. Their mayonnaise is only egg yolks.
Speaker 3Yeah, rich creamy taste, that's right, the perfect tanginess. But they got a spicy mayo. I haven't tried that spicy mayo yet. I can't wait to get it.
Speaker 1Yeah, a tartar sauce that is to die for and we having fried fish soon with that tartar sauce, because it is good, it's so good.
Speaker 3Watch, okay. Do you like to mix your ketchup in with your torti sauce? No, uh-uh, you can do that on a po' boy.
Speaker 1You can mess around and do that on po' boy. But whenever we're dipping the fish, uh-uh Gotcha.
Speaker 3All right.
Speaker 1So let's think yes.
