Coffee Talk With The Cajun Mamas: Beyond the Vehicle: What Really Defines Your Parenting?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Have you heard about the viral mom stereotypes taking over social media? The "White SUV Mom" versus the "Black SUV Mom" debate has become shorthand for different approaches to motherhood—but how accurate are these categories really?
As we celebrate our one-year podcast anniversary (and 75,000 downloads!), we're diving into these hilarious stereotypes while confessing what our vehicles actually look like behind the Instagram-worthy facade. Spoiler alert: there are goldfish crackers everywhere, and neither of us has washed our cars in... well, let's just say it's been a while.
Beyond vehicle preferences, we explore other mom categorizations that have us laughing at ourselves: Are you a hot coffee or iced coffee mom? Crockpot devotee or drive-thru regular? Target shopper or Dollar General warrior? Essential oils believer or "just give them Tylenol" pragmatist? Each revelation brings us closer to the truth—we're all just doing our best with what we've got.
The conversation takes a heartfelt turn when we share the wisdom that's carried us through the chaos of motherhood: "Something's going to get left undone. Make sure it's not you or your family." In a world obsessed with categorizing mothers, we're reminding each other that the state of our vehicles doesn't define our worth as parents.
Whether you drive a pristine SUV or a crumb-filled minivan, this episode is your permission slip to let go of the pressure to fit neatly into mom stereotypes. Because at the end of the day, we're all just running on coffee and prayers!

Right , we are going to discuss some fun stuff today , but first we're going to talk about Acadia , cajun Harvest Country , where they're going to give us all the information we need to know about visiting Acadia .
Speaker 1Parish yes , where we live in grand old Acadia Parish yes , where we live in grand old Acadia . Parish Food . I don't know if you knew this Food is big over here .
Speaker 2We love food . We like to eat . If you like to eat , you know everybody's got to eat . We like rice especially .
Speaker 1Okay , and did you know Acadia Parish is the biggest rice producer in the state I ?
Speaker 2would venture to guess that we probably are .
Speaker 1Yeah , it's true . I mean , this paper says it's true .
Speaker 2This paper says it's true , yeah , and I know very many rice mills around here , a lot , yeah , agree . So we got the rice , babe , and we got the plate lunches boudin , jambalaya , the cracklings there's something to satisfy any Cajun craving . That's true . Y'all come over , y'all come find out , because we got the Boudin Trail . On what is it AcadiaTourismcom ? Yep , there's something called the Boudin Trail . Boudin Trail , cracklin Trail .
Speaker 1Yeah , there's the Meats Trail . I think too , like specialty meats , specialty meats , and the trail is really a map . It's going to show you all the little places to go and hit up and it's really a trail of food you can eat your way through the parish .
Speaker 2There's churches . You know , it tells you all the historical churches , graveyards . Even it tells you where Charlene Richard's gravesite is . Yes , there's so many things to do here , even on a weekend that's bland , but not during October . There are zero weekends that are bland in october true yep , so y'all stop by any of our delicious places to eat cajun restaurants go to acadiatourismcom .
Speaker 1Yep , for a list and maps and
Acadia Parish Tourism Spotlight
Speaker 1details . Okay , on everything you could do , that's right , and come visit us in acadia , parish all right . Okay , today we have such a fun topic okay , sometimes I don't remember where inspiration strikes us for these topics , but we both started laughing when we were talking about it , so we wanted to bring it to y'all , because we're going to tell you a little bit about ourselves . Yeah , through these things .
Speaker 2We're going to call this the white SUV mom and the black SUV mom . If you haven't heard this , it's not something we came up with . This is like a thing right now , okay , or maybe not even right now . We're going to say it is , it's a mom stereotype . Okay , I'm going to read to you about the white SUV mom ,
White SUV Mom vs. Black SUV Mom
Speaker 2because clearly that's what I am Okay . About the white SUV mom , because clearly that's what I am Okay , and then you can read about the black SUV mom . I'm going to hand it over .
Speaker 1You're going to hand it to me . Good , because I'm like I don't have that on my phone , but okay .
Speaker 2White SUV . Mom is usually the mom people picture as the more Pinterest-y or Targon run chic . She drives a white Tahoe Yukon Highlander Palisade type SUV , drinks iced coffees , has matching Stanley cups , wears Lululemon , decorates every holiday and a kid show up to practice with coordinated snacks and cute Ziplocs . She is the organized chaos but looks put together , mom .
Speaker 1Wow , that's the white SUV . Mom , that's white SUV . Okay , if you have a white SUV , please let us know if these characteristics describe you in the comments . Let us know Now if you are a black SUV mom . You are usually seen as the no-nonsense boss , energy mom . She drives a black Escalade Suburban Tahoe with tinted windows , hair in a slick back bun , probably blasting 2000s hip-hop or country , while handling business on the Bluetooth . She's a mom you don't want to mess with in a car line . Neither She'll cut you off and not think twice . She's classy , a little bit intimidating and has her life together in a more power move type of way . Now , immediately I thought of somebody that drives a black Tahoe and fits most of these criterias , and that is Ashley Boutte .
Speaker 2That's so , ashley .
Speaker 1Boutte so .
Speaker 2Ashley Boutte , Shout out girl .
Speaker 1We love it . But I'm going to say this is BS . Yeah , because I drive a white SUV and I am definitely not Pinterest-y or Target-y chic at all . No , so what ? I mean what ? And what happens if you drive a silver ? Are you a ?
Speaker 2little bit of both . I drive a silver and I'm ratchet as hell , so I'm definitely a black SUV . Mom . We not coming with organized snacks , we are flying out the house with you know , like we . I don't even know if we have a water bottle sometimes . Sometimes , you know , it's just hopefully we have diapers , you know , and if we do , it's probably because my husband packed them or I had one of the kids back them before we are flying by the seat of our pants , uh , the inside of the vehicle is absolutely disgusting .
Speaker 1I mean , there's always crumbs , always the carpet needs to be vacuumed in there . That's me , that's my white SUV . So I don't know , I'm going to put a little bit of skepticism in those classifications , I'm just going to say yeah , it doesn't matter and the white is always dirty .
Speaker 1I mean , I washed my car for the first time in probably a year this past weekend . Why I hate washing that thing ? Yes , and you know why ? I was , low-key , forced to because my husband said it's time for me to wax the car . Yes , in case you didn't know , my husband likes to wax a vehicle every so often .
Speaker 2Oh my gosh , this is a whole new layer .
Speaker 1So he's like can you and the girls because my kids love washing the car , they ask me to wash the car so they could play with the water hose will you and the girls please wash uh , suzy , that's what we call my , my subaru , wash suzy this weekend because I need a waxer and I'm like , oh , it was like pulling teeth . You hear , I just hate it . I don't know why , I do you know ?
Speaker 2my daddy always had us washing cars , and so I feel like I've done that so much in my life . That's how I used to earn my money .
Speaker 1I would wash my parents' vehicles and my . But you know , my daddy always kept a clean vehicle . Yeah , mine too , and now I just do not care .
Speaker 2To my fault . It was clean and I was just like he's rolling right now because , all right , I'm just rolling . The state of these vehicles , the way that my car is getting washed these days , is through one of those fancy ones that you pay 15 and I hate doing that too and it goes through and puts a wax on and everything . If it's not that I know I can't tell you . The last time I got the brush out and but I did think about doing it , um , recently , thought about it .
Speaker 2I thought about it but , I couldn't because I had a bunch of stuff in my driveway , you know like I have the shop and all that . Yeah , I'm too much going on now , oh , now , oh , it's gonna make a mud hole yeah , it's raining , yeah well , it's just rain tomorrow .
Speaker 1A mud hole yeah , it's raining . Yeah Well , it's going to just rain tomorrow . Well , I told him . I said , you know , it's going to rain if we have a clean car . And then I had to go pick up the kids from somewhere . And now we washed her on Saturday and he was going to wax on Sunday . Well , I had to go pick up the kids somewhere Saturday and I was like I hate to tell you this , but every bug in the universe was out on the road . So it got dirty again and I'm like it don't stay clean enough .
Speaker 2Do you know how to clean bugs off your vehicle ?
Speaker 1Is it Dawn ? No , what is it ? It is a dryer sheet oh yes , I had read that one time A dryer sheet with a little water . Water Comes right off .
Speaker 2But if you leave it too long then the bugs bugs , they get implanted into your clear coat and , like you , just got a bug print in your clear coat . That's where I'm at right now .
Speaker 1That's where you're at , but my daddy taught me the uh dryer sheet thing , which is perfect timing because it is love bug season and they are everywhere they are relentless . Just do y'all have the love bugs like we do . You know we're talking about them too .
Speaker 1Them , them , they , you , today in love because they linked up , okay , and they black and they don't sting , thank god , or we'd be in trouble . Um , but they get all over your vehicle and they make a mess . In september is prime blood , blood , blood , love , bug season , oh man . So so might as well not watch your card in . No , I know , but they said that there's acid in them . That's what I was always told like . They're acidic , so if you leave them on your paint , it eats up your paint yeah , so I think that's of all bugs , though probably , you know , I don't know .
Speaker 2I kind of want to go to look at my car right now . I probably got a few dragonflies stuck in there , who knows ? Yeah .
Speaker 1Let us know in the comments Do y'all wash y'all , do y'all keep a clean car , or are you just surviving like us ? Yeah ?
Speaker 2I mean .
Speaker 1I don't know . I feel like I definitely don't want a newer I mean I know my vehicle to get a new new vehicle until the kids are out , because it just can't stay clean in there .
Speaker 2I always wanted a black vehicle Always , and see the way that I'm set up . Ain't no way I could keep a black vehicle .
Speaker 1I had . My first car was white . My second car , which was a nicer car , was a black Honda Accord and I loved it .
Speaker 2But God , the black is so hard to keep clean .
Speaker 1The bugs really show on that and the dirt just the . I mean I lived on a gravel road so it never stayed
Coffee, Crockpots, and Shopping Habits
Speaker 1, it was never clean and you see the way my bank account set up .
Speaker 2I I can't just pay somebody to come wash my vehicle all the time .
Speaker 1No , I would love to pay 87 washes to come and clean my vehicle like once a month .
Speaker 2Maybe I'm going to treat myself to that I should because it's been at least six months At least , and I felt so powerful ?
Speaker 1Don't you feel just unstoppable with a clean vehicle ? I ?
Speaker 2feel like a white SUV mom when my vehicle's clean . True that , but that is not . It's very few and far between .
Speaker 1It is .
Speaker 2I don't know . What do you think ? What are you ? You the white SUV mom or the black SUV mom ? Doesn't matter what color your vehicle is what is your stereotype ?
Speaker 1what's your style ? Yeah , now I thought about a few other little uh like this or that type of moms out there now our friend laurel , though she's definitely a white definitely , and she has a white jeep . Yeah , there you go . Yeah , I know , and I I love it for her yeah , I love that for her . Yes , um , okay , how about , uh uh , ice coffee or hot coffee ?
Speaker 1um , for me yeah oh , I already know this , but tell me um , hot , okay , in my mind the ice coffee moms are like the starbucksers , like you go to starbucks and you get your little ice coffee and you go stroll around target , yeah , if you make it , if you're a hot coffee person , you making that at home , like I'm brewing my coffee at home . It's just very casual , very like basic brew . Oh yeah , that's my .
Speaker 2In my eyes , and I'm definitely a listen . Now you catch us out and about , I'm okay with having a fancy hot hot coffee I do love to go to target , but I just want you to know that I'm we know somebody , too , that goes to Starbucks daily .
Speaker 1Brittany Zabala goes to Starbucks every single day .
Speaker 2I about died when she said every single day I go to Starbucks .
Speaker 1That's her joy , Like you know . Like just our little coffee at home is our joy , that Starbucks is her joy .
Speaker 2But I can enjoy mini cups when you know mini cups , Mini cups , Mini cups as many as time she goes through it , but , like sometimes , your joy just needs to be indulged .
Speaker 2Indulged , yeah , but I don't know Me . I am the type of mom that is coming in hot and hot coffee . Okay , I do not like to use one of those thermoses , because why would I do that ? I mean , they spill anyway . Because , like , I can't get the top to do what I wanted to , and then I end up with coffee everywhere . So I come in with my mug , my big 15-ounce mug , in my car , and I have figured out the way to balance myself with my hot mug .
Speaker 1As you're driving in a bumpy road , as I'm driving .
Speaker 2Sometimes I'm on the way to your house and I have my big mug and then I put it in the back because I already got to your house and finished the whole thing . But yeah , no , I am that mom that will hold the coffee mug .
Speaker 1The actual coffee mug in the car with no lid .
Speaker 2No .
Speaker 1Taking all the chances .
Speaker 2If the chance , it's the same . Living on a prayer , it's the same , though . Have you ever tried to drink out of one of those ?
Speaker 1With a lid ? Yeah , but it stays so hot you burn your tongue on it , Exactly .
Speaker 2That's not enjoyable to me . No , I'd rather live on the edge . Okay , how about ? Are you a crock pot mom or a drive-thru mom ?
Speaker 1oh , I'm a crock pot mom , all the way . Yeah , what is that ? Is that white or black suv suv ? I would think I guess that's the black suv mom , the crock pot mom oh , and you think the other one's just going through the drive-thru ?
Speaker 2yeah , I'm not . We throwing everything in the pot and if you don't eat it , peanut butter jelly too bad ppb and j or a grilled cheese . That's our default I want one of them . Fancy grilled cheese . Like you begin your teeth she . She sent me a picture of some sourdough grilled cheese on there .
Speaker 1I'm not even standing at the pot you know , and you didn't think I was telling the truth . Neither you said oh yeah , like your kids really want that sourdough , and I'm like you , don't tear it up , crust , and all well , I cut the bottom off . You know the bottom gets hard yeah , they're .
Speaker 1Yeah , I cut the bottom off but they're at the top . They eat that and they and I was honestly surprised like I made one one day . I was like I don't know what to feed y'all . You want grilled cheese ? Okay , can I have sourdough grilled cheese ? Yeah , but let's have some meat too . We try to . I've been trying to get my kids to eat more meat and protein so I'm like let's have some meat to that . And I had some like loose ground beef that I had cooked and I was like I'm gonna make , I'm gonna try something . They loved it , it was good and I put like ketchup and mayo in it too , so it kind of had like a hamburger-y type taste , but it was grilled cheese and they asked for that like three more times after that . So I went through a whole sourdough loaf in like two days , because they ate so many sandwiches .
Speaker 1Which was a problem for me , because you couldn't keep up making them loaves .
Speaker 2Yeah , but I mean it's better for them anyway , it's much better than what I'm buying currently . But yeah , I'm a crockpot mama . What are you ? Yeah ?
Speaker 1same , you're not .
Speaker 2You're not going me , I ain't going to not going through the drive-thru , not even for me okay , sometimes we did , we do , but not when we're trying to behave we're trying to behave right now and I gotta say I'm very . I'm very thankful for you reeling me in on that . I'm saving money . I'm saving bloating . Bloating is better .
Speaker 1My digestion's never been better . Oh , I mean , and you're svelte , you're getting svelte , you're fitting into your pants again you know my lord , I wasn't able to fit into these pants .
Speaker 2Do you remember that I do I do okay , sometimes we like to put on other accents . Yeah , um , okay y'all probably didn't know that about us . No , we like to , we like sometimes that's usually behind the scenes . Yeah , behind the scenes we like to play other accents , um , but uh , this one's just here to stay , okay yeah , what about a ?
Speaker 1are you a Target mom or a Dollar General mom ? Oh , I hate the dollar store .
Speaker 2You do Uh-uh , I'm ordering . You won't go to the dollar store If I absolutely have to ? I didn't know that about you . I have been , but I will try to order things online that you normally get at the dollar store , just so I don't have to go in there .
Speaker 1Like I know you would just rather Amazon it .
Speaker 2Oh , absolutely , like I get my toilet paper for some type of person , and Sam's helps me out , oh Sam's , and there's really no need for me to walk into a dollar store unless you know like there's a last minute item . You know I'm just not Okay Because , first off , it stinks in there most of the time , okay , um , unless it's dollar tree , then that's a totally different animal oh , I didn't specify what dollars .
Speaker 1I said dollar general .
Speaker 2That's yeah , yeah , okay you're right they stink just all of them , and , and a lot of times there's one . Well , I'm just talking , I'm , I'm you talking ?
Speaker 1about church point Dollar General , my local .
Speaker 2You are correct in that there is one stinky one , and there's nobody wants to work over there Cause the air conditioning never works and it's just like that is not the type of life that I want anybody living , so why would I support it ? Why ?
Speaker 1would you support it ?
Speaker 2Yes , now I like to go to the other one on the other end of town because that one's nice yeah . And he tells me see you tomorrow , correct ?
Speaker 1And they say , don't ? They say Jesus loves you too .
Speaker 2On the outside , none but the Jesus music in there all day long .
Speaker 1I enjoy that dollar store a lot , yes , so I'll take it back . But that , yeah , I know what you mean . But if you had a choice family dollar , dollar general , which one Dollar general on the rod side , okay , throw in a dollar tree and that puts all the rest away , you would go dollar tree all day long . A thousand percent .
Speaker 2A thousand percent . Okay , they don't have , like , the name brands , but if I'm going to just what's piddle , piddle . If I want a piddle , I'm going to just what's piddle , piddle . If I want a piddle , I'm going to Dollar Tree for sure .
Speaker 1Yeah , I got you Last thing I could think of and I ain't going to get too in . We ain't debating too much about this so don't get crazy in the comments . Oh , essential oil mom . Oh , okay , no , no , no , no , no , no Essential oil mama . Or just give them some Tylenol . Okay , what kind of mom ? What kind of mom are you ? I was actually for a while I tried being the essential oil mama yeah uh-huh
What Really Matters in Motherhood
Speaker 1. But now I'm like just give them the Tylenol Mm-hmm , Mm-hmm .
Speaker 2See my first two children . I was definitely essential um and , but I did give Tylenol .
Speaker 1I'm kind of a mix , yeah , um but like I remember , uh , for the first , like when Brynn was born , um , and taking her for like her checkups and shots and stuff like that , they would say give Tylenol before you go , like as a preventative , and I remember thinking absolutely not , why would I give her medicine that she don't need ? And then , but my mother-in-law was like , give her some ibuprofen and I was like nope .
Speaker 2And then when she cried , I was like I should have gave her the Tylenol you know I'm like , oh see , now it's got to be bad for me to give them the Tylenol they got to be running fever . I don't usually the Tylenol they got to be running fever . I don't usually give Tylenol just for no reason .
Speaker 1Okay .
Speaker 2You know , like it has to be obvious because I don't want them always on medicine , or like I don't know . No , who knows .
Speaker 1Okay , correct , correct .
Speaker 2So I did try the essential oil for a while , and I still love essential oils , me too , I do . But I'm going to give the Tylenol Two .
Speaker 1You know , yeah , I just will . Did you think of anything else ? Like , what did you think I was going to say whenever I was talking ? I don't know , I was very scared . You were nervous . I was like , oh God .
Speaker 2I thought it was like something that we argue on and we don't meet eye to eye . Oh , no , no , no , I can't even think of one thing that is . But surely there's got to be something , Surely there is something we don't see eye to eye on .
Speaker 1but I just like oh God , am I going to go on a rant about this ? Oh , no , no , no , no , just because , like you know , that topic of medicine and stuff can be polarizing and I don't want to get into that , because if you think you're right or you're , if you think you're right , you're right because that's what you think that's for you , your children exactly you know best for them , but anyway .
Speaker 1But yeah , no matter what type of mom you are out there , let's just say you're doing a great job . Yeah , there's what you got with , what exactly you can be . Any type of way is going to be the best way for your child , because God has chosen you to be their mama . So you just keep on .
Speaker 2As long as you're taking care of your kid , then that's all that matters . You're seeing about them , you're seeing about your children and you're trying your best .
Speaker 1That's right , that's all we can do . That's all we can do . We should do our best and we trust god to do the rest that's all I can do .
Speaker 2Oh , that's how we live amen amen no , I don't know . I just I feel like , um , we put a lot of pressure on ourselves as mamas . There's a reason my car looks like that .
Speaker 2That's because I'm tending to other things . My kids , kids . They happy , they fed . You know , I make sure that they , you know they have everything they need , and that's why there's shoes all over my car and there's goldfish all over my car and there's trash , you know . Luckily I have those big girls now . They help me pick up , you know , but it's just like they're happy , they're fed . I'm getting them where they need to go and we need to go Doctor's appointments , things like that , and so yeah , like my mama tells me something's going to get left undone .
Speaker 1Something is always going to get left undone . Make sure it's not you or your family . Oh , that's good , the rest can wait . There's always going to be dishes . There's always going to be clothes . There's always going to be dishes . There's always going to be clothes .
Speaker 2There's always going to be messy cars , but make sure your family is seen about first , so most important is is that and I'll have plenty of time to worry about all the rest one day I'll be driving around a clean car maybe and or maybe not , I don't know um , or be cleaner than it is now .
Speaker 1But you know what the crazy part is like we that don't , just those things don't matter anymore . Like I remember I mean this was before I had kids like when I said I had , oh , I had that black accord , and after that I had a , a nice nissan maxima . I loved that car and , baby , I kept a clean car . That was a different time in my life . Like now . The girl back then would would have looked at my car now and been like what , what even is this , you know ? But now , like I do not care no .
Speaker 1I mean , of course I don't want like gobs of trash and stinking in there and stuff , no , but I'm talking about the little things like it . Just that doesn't . It's not a priority at this point in my life . No , and that's okay .
Speaker 2Yeah , I think so too , and one day it might be , but it's not . I'd love to see my young self look at me now . I'd love to see what she thinks of everything .
Speaker 1And have a little talk and be like , oh baby , those things just don't matter .
Speaker 2You know , like all these things you think matter , no they don't , they really don't , and that's why I mean I just that's why so many times I look back and I'm like man . If only you knew , I sound like my mama .
Speaker 1Oh , we all turn into our mamas , oh yeah .
Speaker 2If only you knew . Oh , you know , I just yeah , what you're gonna do it's all part of the life experience . But white suv mom , black suv mom , it really don't matter . Take care of your children , take care of your family , take care of yourself . That's right , because if you're not well , then , who's gonna do it ?
Speaker 1yeah , we can't do it all . We can't pour from an empty cup , that's right , so make sure you're spending that , that , that j Jesus time filling up your cup with what really matters .
Speaker 2Absolutely .
Speaker 1And good coffee . Hope you're filling up your cups with good coffee too . Yeah , we're running on coffee and prayers y'all .
Speaker 2Jesus and prayers .
Speaker 1That's right .
Speaker 2Thank y'all so much for hanging out with us today . If you are wondering what the heck these hats are doing , oh , let's talk about that .
Speaker 1Um , if you can't see them and you're listening on spotify or apple , uh , head on over to our youtube channel so you can see what we're talking about right now . You'll have a visual . We got some new merch on our on our website , y'all we I , we love these hats .
Speaker 2Okay , I have . Uh , I love them a lot . Um , I just think they so cute . Like my daughter , absolutely love the red one .
Speaker 1She did .
