Coffee Talk With The Cajun Mamas

From Cajun Kitchens To Thankful Hearts: How Strong Communities And God’s Timing Shape Everyday Joy

Chris Logan Media Season 3 Episode 27

Send us a text

The holidays can feel loud, but gratitude speaks in a steady voice. We sit down with coffee and get honest about the small practices that change everything—naming daily blessings with our kids, leaning on a real-life village, and savoring the funny moments that make family life bright. From grandparents next door to kids with fast comebacks, these are the stories that turn ordinary days into something worth remembering.

We also open up about partnership and risk. What does it look like when a spouse says yes to your biggest leap, or quietly packs every cable, hotspot, and chair so your event runs smooth? Leaving a stable job for a calling takes both courage and logistics, and we share how we balanced faith, finances, and a sense of purpose without losing our humor. There’s a candid bit on the giant-speaker debate versus new tires, because real marriage is part dream and part spreadsheet.

Then the unexpected happened: churches began inviting us to speak. We walked into rooms full of women with no script and left with deeper connections, thoughtful Q&A on living as Christian mothers, and a renewed sense that God writes straighter than we do. A women’s day of reflection affirmed the quiet impact of showing up—one grateful husband wrote to say the day reset his wife’s spirit. That’s why we keep going. We’re grateful for this community, for the chance to point back to God’s timing, and for partners like Hal the Cajun Lady Accent, whose Cajun seasonings and creative gift ideas bring flavor to holiday tables.

If these themes speak to you—gratitude, family, faith, community—press play, share it with someone who needs a lift, and drop a comment with one blessing you’re counting today. Subscribe for more weekly coffee chats, and if this moved you, leave a review so others can find the show.

SPEAKER_03:

We try to get you to move next to us so we can share driveways but not handle us living next towards each other.

SPEAKER_01:

They would give jaloux because we'd spend more time with each other than they would go hang out with each other any of us or not.

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome to Coffee Talk with the Cajun Mamas. Grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and let's dive into real conversations about life, motherhood, and a little inspiration to brighten your day.

SPEAKER_02:

Welcome. Welcome back to Coffee Talk with the Cajun Mamas. We in November already.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh, we say that every month. We've been in such already. We've been such and such already. But it's true. To think we've been doing this for over a year now is insane. And to think it's almost Christmas time. The holidays are here. They're a porter.

SPEAKER_02:

It's a magical time.

SPEAKER_03:

It's a magical time.

SPEAKER_02:

Let's start out by thanking our grand sponsor, our official sponsor of Coffee Talk with the Cajun Mamas this month is Hal, the Cajun Lady Accent. If y'all have been listening to us for a while, y'all have heard us talk about our friend Hal. She you she's your go-to for all things Cajun cooking.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh, for sure.

SPEAKER_02:

She got the recipes down pat and y'all, she even takes the time to give you measurements sometimes. Oh.

SPEAKER_03:

And that's hard. That's very hard as a Cajun.

SPEAKER_02:

To do, but she does it for y'all.

SPEAKER_03:

She does it for y'all.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, you can go to how the CajunLadyAccent.com and check out her whole line of Cajun seasoning. She got some good, all-purpose ones with different levels of heat for you. She's got, oh, my favorite is actually her Mexican fiesta fashion. Oh, that's my favorite.

SPEAKER_03:

I'm out of it right now. I need to go get some.

SPEAKER_02:

Taco meats. We eat probably taco meat at least once a week. And all you need is that uh Mexican fiesta seasoning, you good to go. But she also has a blackening seasoning called blacken that. Um, she's got dry dip mixes, those are so good, and the hit of every party.

SPEAKER_03:

If you go to a party with one of her dry dip, they always accent. Where you got that dip? What kind of dip is that? They always accent, and it's so easy. You just dump the pack in there, and she has what else you need to put? Uh sour cream and mayonnaise.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, that's the good stuff. She's got a whole line of good Cajun seasonings and and mixes, quick little things like that. You need to go check her out at how the Cajun Ladyaccent.com and make sure you're following her on all the social medias Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram. Um, she is just one that you want to keep your eyes on. She's always got something going on. She's funny, she's entertaining, and you're gonna learn something too. She also said go subscribe with your email address on her website because sometimes she sends out little emails to her people, like with sales or anything that she got. New merch drops. Yeah. So thank you, Hal, for being our official sponsor this month. Um, we love you. We love you, Hal.

SPEAKER_03:

Okay, this episode is all about gratitude. Yes. Okay, so you know it's Thanksgiving time, it's time to be thankful, but being thankful, we're thankful all year long. Okay.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. We try to make it a point. Even like every night, like when I say our prayers with my little children, thank you, Lord, for the blessings that you gave us this day. And what you know, name a few what they were. Try to keep in that in that mindset of being thankful all the time. That's so good. You do that every night with your kids.

SPEAKER_03:

That's so good. Yeah. What's something that happened today that was good? That's a good thing to do.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Um, but no, so we're gonna be talking about what we're grateful for, I guess. And this is a good thing.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, it won't be long enough to name all the things that we're grateful for, but we'll try to think of like a you know, some big things.

SPEAKER_03:

What is that song about counting the blessings? I keep counting them, but it's too high.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Uh Knowing I Can't Count That High. Knowing I Can't Count That High. Good Lord. If you've never heard that song, yeah, um I think it's called Counting My Blessings uh by Steph Schuler.

SPEAKER_03:

Yes.

SPEAKER_02:

I love that one.

SPEAKER_03:

It's so good. If you haven't heard that song, please go look it up because even if you are down in the trenches, I'm telling you there's something that you can be thankful for. So let's let's get into it. Let's dive right in.

SPEAKER_02:

Let's dive right in. Um, yeah, so I mean, I always feel like immediately my family, you know, my family, uh just even just today to come here and record this podcast. Um my youngest was sick the last few days, so she's been out of school. And you know, like you don't want to like I don't want to ask a sitter to come or my my mama or my in-law to come sit with her if she's sick. She's better now, but still like didn't want to send her to school, you know, at that point.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I didn't even have to ask. My mama just came over today because she knew that I had this to do. And it's like I'm so thankful for my mama. Yeah. Thankful for my parents. They, you know, I grew up, moved away to the big city of Church Point, 45 minutes from my hometown. And when I had my first baby, that my parents uprooted their whole lives and moved next door, like to be closer to us. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Like one of my main one of my huge videos on Facebook was of me looking out the window, saying, like, my parents would leave it. I'm like, where y'all think y'all going? You know, like living next door to your parents. Some people would be like, Absolutely not.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh no, I would bother her all the time. Yes. If I could.

SPEAKER_02:

But for me, and then my in-laws are right there too. So I got both sets, and it's just a little village out there, and I I wouldn't change it for anything.

SPEAKER_03:

You so blessed in that for sure. And I say that every time we even talk about that. I'm like, man, you so lucky. If I could just put my yard ain't big enough, but we always talk about like a family compound. Yeah. And then we'll all get together and and just powwow in the middle of the yard. And we want to, you know, wouldn't that be nice? Just get together together.

SPEAKER_02:

Get you to move next to us so we can share driveways.

SPEAKER_03:

But not handle us living next door to each other.

SPEAKER_01:

They would give jaloux because we'd spend more time with each other than they're. They would go hang out with each other and give us a long, huh? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

No, but okay, thankful for our families for sure. I'm thankful for for all my little children. Yes, our children. That we were talking about how funny who's the funniest one in the house, Jajo Axley. Oh. Right now. And I'm like, I don't know. Roz is pretty funny, but then brother's starting to get a personality, and it's like, I don't know. Y'all all are so funny to me because they the older ones come up with some little quips and I think Isla has always been quick. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Like she, you can go tit for tat with her.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh, you can. And funny too. And funny, yeah. You know? So she, you know, like they're just all funny in their own way. So just giving me, you know, a family that I can enjoy right now, even if I'm cleaning up all the time after them, I'm still thankful for it.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

But my husband.

SPEAKER_02:

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_03:

I'm thankful for my husband.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Some people they don't like their husbands too much, and I clown, I clown. Yeah. You know, but I'm thankful for the supportive husband that I have. Because let me tell you what, I come up with some wild ideas. Okay. And every time he's like, he knows I'm gonna do it though, Koa. Like he knows whatever I say I'm gonna do, it's gonna happen.

SPEAKER_02:

You know? He's just he's just there. Like he's about it. He's just so bouty. He he's if you bout it, he's he's about it.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh yeah. Like who does that? Not me. Whenever he says something wild, I'm just like, um, you better rein it back in, you know. Rethink that for a minute.

SPEAKER_02:

And and uh-uh, no, I mean, as long as we've been knowing each other, there's only like maybe not even a handful of times that I feel like Chase was like, mmm, you say what now? Like you're gonna do what? And then but once you did it, now it's just like, oh, that's good, you know, like that's nothing now, you know? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

But like I just I look back and there's not too many times that he's been hesitant to support what you want to do. That's crazy. I'm hesitant to support him. Well, stuff like this. Right now he's he's wanting to buy a$500 um speaker for the shop.

SPEAKER_02:

You gotta have music when you're working out.

SPEAKER_03:

Yes, but the size of the shop and the size of the lot tell me that all that is needed is a Bluetooth speaker. Okay, well, you he is trying to have a whole DJ service in. Well, guess who he's been talking to about that? I know. Your husband.

SPEAKER_02:

Can blame my husband on that.

SPEAKER_03:

No, I don't think he understands what kind of square footage we're dealing with. We're trying to blow the whole block away with$500 speakers. So it's stuff like that where I'm like, I don't know, maybe a dishwasher sounds better.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Can we hold on? Can we put some new tires on the car first? Maybe the left. Oh, don't say that. No, I'm just joking.

SPEAKER_03:

Don't say that. We're good there. Uh, but nevertheless, uh, very grateful for my husband. He he puts up with a lot of stuff.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, I will say the same about mine. And mine is like supportive in a different way. Like, not that he's like not on board with my crazy ideas or whatever, like, but like just say whenever I stepped away from my job, full-time job, to pursue Cajun Mamas full-time and Lime life full-time. That was huge, you know. And he now it had been a while, like I'd been, he knew, like he knew my heart was ready to take that leap of faith, but like it's hard. And for a man, God put in them to be the providers for the family. So financially, he's very smart as far as like responsible and like seeing the bigger picture, you know.

SPEAKER_03:

But even like whenever you stayed home at first with your kids, you know, like he understood the importance of that, and I think that was that's a big deal.

SPEAKER_02:

I know absolutely, yes. Um, but like when he I think really saw I don't know, he just trusted me or if he trusted God or both, but like he was uh he said, Chase your dream, just go for it, ride this out, let's see what happens, and you know, we'll have a plan B if it doesn't work out. And the way he really supports me is like he thinks of things that I don't think of. When we go do a vendor show or something, he's already got the tables, the chairs, the uh the internet, uh blue, the uh what you call it, hot spot things. He's got everything in there loaded up to make sure that what we do is go smooth and is successful, and like that is oh my god, priceless to me.

SPEAKER_03:

So supportive.

SPEAKER_02:

Think about and that's all the time. Yeah. He he does things to make my life easier without me.

SPEAKER_03:

And he does, though. He does, and um, and I got a lot to say about him all the time, but he does, he does support you in that way. And our uh just when we went to the postmaster and we were like, who we gonna hire to come? So and so's not available, so-and-so's not available. He was like, Well, I'll do it. We never even thought to ask him, but he's like our best cajing mom employee. Don't tell him a shame.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, he I didn't we didn't have to worry about it. Like he just he had it.

SPEAKER_03:

He had it, he had it, and I think he likes to help you, you know. I think he likes to to be a part of it. So too. They are good. Um, but uh apart from uh uh the obvious uh we have been given some unique opportunities lately that I just want to say I'm so grateful for.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Uh we went to recently, uh apparently we are on the uh the church circuit now. Okay. This may be something new, yeah. Opening up. We don't know, but we have been contacted by several churches. We went to San Amont in um in Louisiana. Yeah, that's near Bat Rouge. Yeah, Denham Springs area. And they ex they invited us for a coffee talk with the Cajun Mamas morning. Okay. And they basically all we did was we met people, took pictures with them, and there was like what a hundred and there was close to 200 ladies there. That's wild.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

And so there wasn't enough room in the little coffee shop they wanted to do it in, so they had to move it to like their reception hall.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, it was like a hall.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. And it was huge, and in every way, Koa and I never script anything. Okay. So what you see is what you get. Um, and we just went in there blindly and we did. We we were surprised and shocked.

SPEAKER_02:

We just shared our story of how we started out all this and how like we could see God's hand in our story, and we gave little instances of how we know he opened doors for us and um in Cajun Mamas and and also in our personal lives too, with our children and family and everything. And we just like shared our hearts, and the response was amazing. We had quick Q ⁇ A at the end and we got to laugh and cut up a little bit.

SPEAKER_03:

Such good questions, like uh, you know, just really how do you do this as a Catholic mama or or as a Christian mama? And it was just like we had to really think about those things. Yeah. Um, but it was just it was a good time to actually engage with the people that we it was all the time.

SPEAKER_02:

Like we're used to doing a meet and greet, which is just is awesome, you know. Y'all get to come and and take pictures with us, and we we have merch usually and stuff, but this went deeper, and I feel like that connection we made with all those ladies that was something special. That was really special.

SPEAKER_03:

So I'll never forget that because that was the first time we, you know, we did something so spiritual, and it was such um it was evangelization in a way that we would have never thought would have been possible. Correct. And so after that, they went and told their friends, and their friends told their friends how great it was. And we've been contacted by a few churches, and I can't wait to see how that goes because that was perfect. Yeah. Then um we also not long after that did a day of reflection retreat with behold behold Catholic Ministries, which we've talked about on here before.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep.

SPEAKER_03:

That was really nice. We had about an hour, yeah, about an hour, like a guest speaker type thing, and it was a whole day of reflection with delicious food, and uh Laura Huvall played, and um Christy Christy Christy Domain, yes, was another um speaker speaker, so good. And then just the uh the person who puts on behold and everything. She was just her story was so powerful. Her husband's a deacon. It was just a great whole entire day. Filling our cups, yeah, and seeing so many other women. Okay, so I never told you this, but there was a husband that contacted me. This was a women's day retreat, and he said to say thank you because his wife really needed that date. After saying after uh after the whole and he was like, Thank you so much for spending time with my wife yesterday. She really needed that. And awesome. I just thought that's God. That's God's hand in it. God's hand is always in our story, and we've told y'all the story before. So, as podcast listeners, you obviously have heard our story, how um, you know, surrendering to God, and if you go back far enough, you'll get the whole story. Yeah, um, but just being able to a lot of people say, Oh, y'all make me laugh, and you know, those types of things.

SPEAKER_02:

But but the thought that it what we do goes deeper than just a laugh, that's where I'm just so overwhelmed and thankful at times, you know. It's not something we ever expected or planned would happen, but I'm not surprised looking at it because when God does something, I mean, he does it for his name and for his glory. And as long as we continue to try to live our lives to give glory to his name in our own story, I feel like that's all he wants from us, you know. And if he wants us more to do more, he'll let us know. Yeah, we'll we'll know.

SPEAKER_03:

He's got us working now, right? Um, but I feel like working in a different way, you know, and I just see the evolution and it's I'm so thankful for the road that we on right now. Um don't know what it's gonna bring. Um, I always say it could be gone tomorrow, but at least I know I made an impact on a small portion of the world, yeah. And I did something, you know, to get people close closer to Christ. You know, like and I hope even in our own crazy mama way, you know, yeah, it helps um a little bit. So if you have been listening to us from the beginning, which I know some of y'all have, yeah. Uh thank y'all so much for the opportunity for us to be in your ears every week.

SPEAKER_02:

Um we're very thankful for the platform that we've been given and the just the love that we've been shown and the response from all the people. Um it's overwhelming at times in the best way. You know, it it really is. God is good and we we just appreciate all of it, you know. Sure do. Any other oh I could go on. We could go on and on. But that's yeah, let's let's end it there. But I would love, um, especially if you want our if you're on our YouTube channel, um, to leave in the comments what are what are some things you're thankful for. We let's let's have a little uh praise fest if you will in the comments. Like just it can be anything, but like if it goes deeper than that, uh we would love to hear it. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Anything thankful for this good cup of coffee right now. That's right. It doesn't matter. Yes. So uh somebody I'm really thankful for is how the Cajun lady acts in, though. Having uh a relationship and a friendship with her has been such a blessing to us, and she is our sponsor for Coffee Talk with the Cajun Mama for this month. She is so with that being said, have you tried her Cajun Fry batter?

SPEAKER_02:

I have not. I don't fry much, but now I'm hungry for fried shrimp. I love that. But you said now that you say this, I'm picturing in my mind some crispy fried shrimp. And I actually recently saw she did like some chicken, was it chicken wings? Did you see that video? No, she did some chicken wings with or maybe it was a full piece of chicken. I don't know. It was fried chicken, and it was with her batter stuff.

SPEAKER_03:

With the batter.

SPEAKER_02:

It looks so good.

SPEAKER_03:

Now you see, I I'm always like, okay, seafood. Yeah, you know, but chicken. That's the thing about how though, she uses her stuff in different ways. So keep y'all need to go like, subscribe, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram. She's everywhere. Her seasonings are low in sodium and MSG free, which is very important these days. Yeah, for sure. Um, and she's also got hats and t-shirts.

SPEAKER_02:

So if you are She got t-shirts like the ones we have on.

SPEAKER_03:

I love this one. It's Marty Girl Colors.

SPEAKER_02:

It is Muddy Girl. Muddy Girl.

SPEAKER_03:

So it's Marty Girl Colors. Um, she, if you are a big Hal fan already, you need to go and grab your hats and merch. She's also coming up with some new merch items uh that just dropped on her site. She's got pots with her logo coming up. Oh, what good Christmas gifts that would make. Yes, nice pots.

SPEAKER_02:

Get a pot and put some seasonings in it, like a few little seasonings.

SPEAKER_03:

That would make a seasonings, and you know she's got like some wooden spoons with her logo on it. That's what y'all need to go get for Christmas. For those people you don't know what to get 'em. Yeah. Oh, or you know, like uh white elephant. Yeah. You get a basket and just fill those things up with seasonings and dip mixes and those uh firecracker mixes. That's a good idea. Okay, that's what y'all doing. Okay. That's what y'all need to do. Y'all go check her out at www.how the Cajun LadyAccent.com. Thank you, Hal, for being our sponsor this month. Thank you. See y'all next time.

SPEAKER_00:
