Coffee Talk With The Cajun Mamas
How A Viral TikTok Turned Faith, Community, And The Number Sixteen Into A Lifeline
A routine string of toddler troubles—ear infections, poor sleep, constipation—hid a rare diagnosis that would change everything. When Lydia tested positive for Sanfilippo syndrome (MPS III), her mom, Morgan, refused to accept “go home and love her” as the final word. You’ll hear how a nurse-mom turned her grief into a plan, translating complex genetics into a clear mission: fund access to gene therapy before regression begins around age four, when speech and skills start to fade.
We walk through the essentials in plain language: how missing enzymes let heparan sulfate build up in the brain, why clinical trials fill fast, and what a breakthrough designation really means for speed and access. Then we dig into the real bottleneck—the multi-million-dollar manufacturing cost that stands between children and treatment while the FDA review progresses. Morgan shares how three TikToks with zero followers exploded into millions of views, national coverage, and a focused giving strategy: if the crowd sends $16, a six-million-dollar mountain turns into steps we can all climb.
This is a story about faith, evidence, and community doing what bureaucracy can’t do fast enough. You’ll hear the Godwinks that kept Morgan moving, the Cajun community throwing benefit after benefit, and the coalition of families raising funds for roughly fifteen kids, not just one. The goal is urgent and specific: keep Lydia’s bright three-year-old mind safe long enough to receive a therapy that could change her trajectory. If rare disease, gene therapy, and real-world impact matter to you, this conversation offers a blueprint for action—and a reminder that small gifts can become big medicine.
Help us spread the word, share the $16 idea, and if you’re able, give to Lydia’s fund. Subscribe for more human stories at the edge of science, leave a review to boost the signal, and tell a friend who cares about turning hope into outcomes.

If each person sent you$16, that is your six million dollar miracle. And I was like, whoo! Okay. Okay, God, here we go. So of course we got the free things. Like the fact that it was the$16, and that reaches the six million. And my follower had no idea about the 16.

SPEAKER_05:Oh, some flavor for them stockings.
SPEAKER_02:A stocking stuffer.
SPEAKER_05:Pop a little seasoning or a little dip and a little beer salt in them in them stockings, and I promise you, nobody's gonna be mad.
SPEAKER_02:Not to mention, um, if you show up to the family function with some of this these dip mixes made, that's gonna be the hit.
SPEAKER_05:Everybody's gonna be saying, Oh, how you made your dip.
SPEAKER_02:And you're just gonna say, How the Cajun Lady Accent. Yes. She helped me make it. She had it. Um, so that's how the CajunLadyaccent.com. All her seasonings are low in sodium and MSG free, y'all. So that's hard to find out there.
SPEAKER_05:That's important.
SPEAKER_02:That's important. Give her a look and go follow her on all the social media, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube, all of it. She's there.
SPEAKER_05:You probably seen her. You can't miss her.
SPEAKER_02:You can't miss her.
SPEAKER_05:How the Cajun Cajun Lady Accent. Thank you so much for being the sponsor of Coffee Talk with the Cajun Mamas for the month of December and November.
SPEAKER_02:November and December.
SPEAKER_05:I tell you. All right, we have Miss Morgan Rashaw with us today. And we have Lydia and we have Heidi. And we are so excited to have y'all. We are just learning about y'all's story. Um, and how long have you been out there crusading for this?
SPEAKER_01:Well, she was diagnosed in April 2024. So I've really been well advocating for her um for that long. Uh huh. So 19 months, 20 months. Wow. But there's been a recent update with it. So for the last month, I have been really, really. Pushing on. Everyone's here in the store.
SPEAKER_05:Now we're getting it. I see. Alright, we'll start from the beginning. We want to know everything there is to know about Miss Lydia.
SPEAKER_01:Alright, so um, I had a great pregnancy with Lydia. Um, perfect labor, perfect birth.
SPEAKER_05:Come stay with me.
SPEAKER_01:You know, come stay with me.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, it's okay, maybe you have to. Okay, it's okay, you're gonna have to.
SPEAKER_01:It's okay. So paper labor, perfect birth, and um we brought her home, everything was great. Doctor said she was perfect. We were living great, everything was great. And when she turned 18 months old, my mom sends me a TikTok video of a little girl that looked just like her. Could have been her twin. I'll be and it was her mom advocating on TikTok of a disease called San Filippo syndrome, and she was naming how her child got diagnosed and the symptoms that were going along with it. So they were like ear infections, constipation issues, GI issues, um, sleep disturbances, common things babies can have. So I never was never alarmed by anything. And then her mom continues to say it's terminal, there's no treatment options. So I was very alarmed at this point. And so I started researching and you know, googling everything I could possibly do.
SPEAKER_05:So And sometimes that's the worst. Yeah, but I tell you not to do it when I was doing it.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, I'll have to scare the heck out of you, but yeah, I would have too.
unknown:Come sit with me.
SPEAKER_01:So and I'm a nurse and I've never heard of any anything like this.
SPEAKER_04:So I'm jaloux now. I use jaloux. I'm jaloux.
SPEAKER_01:So I took it to our pediatrician. We're already going in for her to get a ro7 shot because she had an ear infection. And I was basically like, do not think I'm crazy, but I'm gonna show you these side-by-side pictures and this video that I came across and it alarmed me. So I showed him and he sat down. He basically took his breath away and he said, I've never been asked this before. I'm gonna have to go outside the room and do research myself, and then I'm gonna come back in and tell you what I find. So he leaves and he comes back in and he says, I can't tell you no, she doesn't have it. But just know children come in here all the time with ear infections, they don't sleep through the night, they have constipation issues. But I'm gonna order you the test, and I told him I need to roll it out so I can sleep better at night. So it was a urine test and a blood test. We went to Willis Nightingale and Shreeport and had the testing done because in Acaders they didn't have a way to facilitate that. So we went and had the testing done the very next day, and a week later I was sitting in my mom's living room and she says, Did you pull up the results yet? Have you looked on your phone? And I was like, No, let me let me pull them up. Pulled out the patient portal and it was red. And it was at abnormal. Positive MPS3, which is Sam Fleepo syndrome. Worst on my whole entire life. As you can imagine, how does my child have a terminal disease? And I thought she was perfectly fine this whole entire time. Children usually are not diagnosed early because they seem like your typical toddl.
SPEAKER_05:The symptoms are normal, typical of kids.
SPEAKER_01:So I ran up to my mom's stairs and I just was in a panic attack. And I walked back downstairs and I said, What am I gonna do? And my mom looked at me and she said, which she had already looked up about this options and stuff before she even sent me that video. And she found that there were treatment options where they're only in clinical trials. And it was a gene therapy and enzyme replacement therapy. So the science of it is her body is missing an enzyme that is needed to break down a toxic waste in the body called heparin sulfate. So because she's missing that enzyme, the toxic waste will just continue to build up, will eventually go to her brain, and around four-ish years old, it'll start to three or four years old, start to have brain damage, and that's when they start to lose, start losing their abilities. So she looked, my mom looked at me and she said, I don't look as this is terminal. You get out there and you be her voice and you'll get her those treatments. All right, mama. Oh my gosh. She's my rock, she is my rock. So, you know, I'm just devastated. I was in a very dark place for about two weeks. Um you know, I didn't feel like I could even be a mom. I wasn't eating. Yeah. I didn't want I couldn't go to work. I was just devastated.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:So I was laying in bed one night and something told me to go look up if Lydia meant anything in the Bible. And I, when she was named, I did not know she was mentioned in the Bible. So I Googled, does Lydia mean anything in the Bible? And she does. She is in the book of Acts, chapter 16, verse 14. And she was born on the 16th of October, and I found I was pregnant with her on Valentine's Day, the 14th. I also went on an extra treat with my church about four months before her diagnosis, where I hold heard multiple testimonies about moms with sick children, who had passed away, who we got a miracle, all those things. So I always go back to those testimonies now that I have her diagnosis because they just touched my heart, and I'm able to go back and basically feel what they're feeling now. So the 1614, you know, was my little Godwin, and then I kept reading more into it of she is the woman of purple in the Bible, as she sold very expensive purple cloth. So then I look up what color represents Sam Filippo syndrome, and it was purple. And then I kept reading more into it, and it said that Paul led Lydia to her love for God, and then her and her family members were baptized together. And a year before diagnosis, me and Lydia were both baptized at the exact same time. So I when I saw this, I like sat up out of the bed and I was like, Kirk, look. You know, I was in disbelief, and that just kind of pulled me out of my dark place, and I was like, all right, maybe she's meant to change the world. Maybe this is for her. So I got on my TikTok. You know, I wasn't even a big TikTok person, and I made a Hope for Lydia TikTok, and I had zero followers, and I made three videos, and it was introducing her to the world, her diagnosis, how she got the diagnosis, and all three videos got millions of views with zero followers. I don't know how that happened because that doesn't happen. No, that doesn't do it. Just three. And I was like, okay, maybe I can do this, you know. Maybe I can be your voice. You know, this is you know touching people's hearts. So I just got out there and I advocated and I advocated, you know, but there were still no treatment options when she was diagnosed. They basically told us, go home and love her. There's no treatment option. Just hope she gets into a clinical trial. So I have been advocating since that April 4th diagnosis of 2024. And how old is she now? She's three. She was 18 months when she was diagnosed. So I've been advocating for her and being her voice once I made those TikTok videos. Um, People's Magazine started reaching out to me, Daily News, the Yahoo News. I mean, by the first month, she was on like 15 different news articles around the world. So, you know, that just kind of like gave me motivation. Okay, you can do this, you can do it.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:So I've been asking since. And, you know, I had my little community in Nacadish has been our biggest blessing because they have done fundraiser after fundraiser. We never had to ask anyone to help us. They just came with us with loving arms and they just loved us. And I want to say it was like 30 plus fundraisers within one year. And you know, we advocating on social media. I think we raised 473,000 um up until a month ago on my GoFundMe. So, you know, there's been no treatment options, and we were I did put her on a wait list for a clinical trial that was in the United States. She did not get into it because it was full. And then I put her on the wait list for well, I applied for her to be in the one in Japan because I was about to go to Japan. Yeah. And she did not get into that one either because there was already enough in the trial at J in Japan. So, you know, I've just was just been hopeful and just praying, you know, something to come available. Um, but the issue has been a funding thing. You know, the government doesn't come in through and fund this, it just is basically the families trying to fundraise for this. So fast forward 18 months later, um four weeks ago, we got told that a pharmaceutical company that had the last clinical trial that I put her on the wait list for, it actually shut down because of funding. So, but they had enough research in it to go ahead and push it to the FDA for approval. So this pharmaceutical company bought it out and said, hey, there's enough research, we're gonna send that to the FDA, and they're gonna send it to the FDA at the beginning of 2026 this year. So, and it also got breakthrough designation, meaning it is going to be expedited because they know how crucial it is to get to our kids, because they know what will happen of their regression if they don't get it. So, four weeks ago, that pharmaceutical company basically said, We know how important this is to get to your children, and we can make extra of the medicine to give to them while waiting for the FDA approval if y'all can come up with the six million dollars to fund it because they cannot fund it. So, you know, six million just seemed like, how are we gonna raise six million by the spring? And we had to raise three point eight million by December 1st. So we were all just like, oh my gosh, how how how is that even possible to do that, you know, within like six weeks, five weeks? So, of course, after we got the news, I got on my social media and I said, I need help now. This is my last chance to save her before brain damage begins. She just turned three years old, she doesn't have brain damage yet. She does have a slight slight speech delay, but as her ability, as you can tell, she is your typical toddler. She is three. So we're expecting the brain damage to start within the next year, and her speech will go first. Um, so got on social media. This is my need, and this is what I need now. And so, and then you know, people saw it, and you know, money just started coming in. And uh then my little Godwink. So her special number is 16. She was born on October 16th, Sam Fleet Ball Awareness Day is November 16th. Um, she is in the book of Acts, chapter 16. She was born at 808, 16. Her diagnosis day is April 4th, 2024, 442024 is 16. So one day I was standing in the Hobby Lobby line at the checkout, and there was this book, and it was purple, and it said the 16 women of the Bible speak, and it was on sale, and the price of it was 1619. And I was like, hmm, I'm gonna get it. Is this a God wink? So then I'm checking out, and the cashier says, hmm, that's a weird price, and I'm like, so I God wink. So I get to my car and I said, Bible verses 1619. And it said, Your witness is in, it was Job, which is J O B job, 1619. It said, Your witness is in heaven and your advocate is on high. And it like hit me, like I have been the advocate this whole time. So then, um, I think it was the next day, I, you know, I've been advocating on the TikTok, and one of my followers, I had 375,000 followers at the exact time. And one of my followers commented on there and she said, You have 375,000 followers. If each person sent you$16, that is your six million dollar miracle. And I was like, Whoo! Okay, okay, God, here we go. So, of course, like the fact that it was the$16 and that reaches the six million, and my follower had no idea about the 16. So I got on social media again and I said, you know, telling her story, and I said, if each person, the 375,000 people sent me$16, y'all can be her miracle and save her life. So ever since I made that video, this number 16 of payment has come, popped up on my phone every minute, constantly. And like I said, we had 370, no, no, no, 473,000 before we got this new potential treatment option news. And we have raised almost 1.6 million dollars.
SPEAKER_05:So the last I saw was 1.4, and I'm like, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_01:1.6, so it's good. 1.6, it's good. Like uh, you know, over a million dollars just in four weeks.
SPEAKER_05:Uh that's crazy. That's incredible though.
SPEAKER_01:That people have like come and like we're gonna be your miracle. Rally around. Yes, rally around beautiful.
SPEAKER_05:That is so awesome. Yes, okay. I have to say though, y'all are so close to Charlene here in Church Point. Y'all ought to, you know, Charlene the little Cajun Saint?
SPEAKER_01:Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_05:Y'all ought to go past by her grave.
SPEAKER_01:See, people keep telling me about her, and I read about her, but I didn't realize she was in church point.
SPEAKER_05:She is like maybe 10 minutes away.
SPEAKER_01:Okay, we're gonna go.
SPEAKER_05:You gotta go. We're gonna go. While y'all here, y'all swing by her grave and go pray and have you know, lay her lay herself on there and go there. Go swing by. She's not far away. And I I just feel compelled to tell you Charlene is our little, she's on my shoulder tapping me right now.
SPEAKER_01:Charlene.
SPEAKER_05:We gotta go.
SPEAKER_01:Anyway, she's in church point, though.
SPEAKER_05:It's in it's in Reshort. It's a little brand, it's a little community right outside of Church Point called Reshore, but it's 10 minutes away, you know.
SPEAKER_01:Oh my god brought me here.
SPEAKER_05:That's could be. That might be another God wink there. Um, we love God winks, and we see him all the time in what we do, in the craziest ways. So when the 16 video is what got me hooked. I was like, okay, girl, yes, this is God telling you to do this, and yes, you're advocating for her. But I just see that you you are probably inspiring so many mamas who had no hope for their kids in so many different ways. Um, not just in um, you know, what do I want to say? Um like she's like potential, like it's potential that she could die, you know, pass away or whatever. But like even in in other things, um just daily, I don't know, I feel like you're just encouraging so many women who are or parents who are like maybe just g gave up on their kids and addiction or you know, um there's there's something else going on with their kid, and the doctor said that there was no there's nothing you can do about it but this, you know. I if somebody would have gave me that, I wonder if I would have had the bravery and the courage to do what you do. And I don't know if I would have. I'd have just said, okay, well, there's nothing we can do. But your mama, like what a special person that is to be like, no, there is hope. You just gotta work for it. We gotta do this.
SPEAKER_01:You know, when she was diagnosed, it was you know, almost 20 months ago, I did not think I'd be where I am right now, being in that dark place. And I think my hope and following through Christ, and honestly, I will say that my faith with Jesus was not as strong as it is now. But, you know, whenever you do get into a really dark place and you feel like there's no other option and to look for him. And I feel like he gave me this because he knew I could handle it and he knew of my feistiness, and I don't take no for an answer. And that she was, you know, whenever I was laying in bed that night, that maybe she is meant to change the world, and I already think she is because there's a hundred and twenty raffles going on for her. I lost count. And like the community is just coming together and they're able to watch my story and the God wanks. And they said, if anything, your child is bringing everyone as one, you know, for something great. So I don't think, you know, everyone kept telling me, you know, she's gonna get her miracle, but I don't think like it's going to be God touching her, you know, and killing her and being a miracle. I think it's going to be the world is going to come together and be her miracle. And it doesn't just fun, this isn't just Lydia, the you know, it's like 15 other children that this, you know, 15 children that this can fund. So all the families have come together and we're in fundraising. We've already hit the three million dollar mark. So we have hundred eight hundred thousand to go but before, you know, next week, December 1st. Yeah. And then we have two million after that. But I, you know, just keep pushing and I'm like, I'm y'all's fundraising girl. If anything, we got it. I got it.
SPEAKER_05:Yes. Yes. Oh, I love this so much. I mean, just seeing, just seeing your courage and bravery is just amazing to me. It's so inspiring. Um, I can't imagine, yeah, she's gonna change the world, but so are you. You are a mama force to be reckoned with, and we see that. Um, and we know everybody else is too, and that is why that's why you're going viral right now. You and your babies going viral right now.
SPEAKER_01:You're like, I don't feel famous. Listen, I'd rather not be famous if we're gonna be able to do this.
SPEAKER_05:Saintly, and you know what? Um, I always uh uh tell my husband and anybody who miracles look different. Okay, miracles can be God touching you, but miracles can be small, they can be big. You just never know what God's got planned for you in your life, and he knew all this before you did, before there's too many God winks, and we would be here for hours if I tried to tell y'all them.
SPEAKER_01:But there has been so many God winks in it. You know, it's a miracle to even say that there's a new treat, there's a treatment option available for her because twenty months ago I was like, what am I gonna do? You had no options, and that way to carry yourself into you know, people are like, you have raised a million and a half money for this in a short amount of time. I'm like, it's a miracle, and it's really people, you know, the other St. Fleet famous are like, how are you doing it? And I'm like, it's the down south Louisiana community, and there is something special about that. Super special. So special. I just you know, it's I don't know how to explain it. It makes you speechless, you know. Like whenever someone is struggling or they need your help, Louisiana's gonna get it done.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, yeah, we're coming together.
SPEAKER_01:It's very special, and uh that's my biggest blessing during this whole journey is uh our community who, you know, started from Nacadish but has expanded, and there's you know fundraisers going for her out of town, out of state. It's just everywhere.
SPEAKER_05:All over.
SPEAKER_01:All over.
SPEAKER_02:We have an escapee at the door. Oh she tends to do. She's following her big sis, she's trying to follow her big sis.
SPEAKER_05:Well, we are so glad that you came on here uh and shared this story with everybody. Um, tell us where we can find you.
SPEAKER_01:Tell us where we can help you in Macadosh, Louisiana. But our um GoFundMe is www.gofundme.com slash save lydia, and then all of our social medias, all of the rest of them, like on Instagram and TikTok is at Hooke for Lydia. My main Facebook where I do the daily updates is Morganweaver Rashell. And I also have my VM on there, but you gotta watch out for that one because we got a lot of scammers trying to be mean. But we we're still getting there, even though that.
SPEAKER_05:So okay, so and we'll put this information in the comments. You'll be listening to this after December 1st, but don't worry, she they're still gonna need another influx before the spring. Correct. Correct? So you're not too late if you want to give. Um it's the season of giving right now.
SPEAKER_02:Yes, and uh whatever you feel God calling you to do, pulling at your heart, don't ignore it. Be a blessing, pay it forward. If this was your child, like I just keep, oh, if this was my child. It's not like begging for money.
SPEAKER_05:Like this is there's nothing that you wouldn't do for your kid. No, and that's what she's doing right now.
SPEAKER_01:So it's very humbling to ask the world for money.
SPEAKER_02:Yes.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_02:Buy something from my kids for dancing. So I can imagine how humbling that is.
SPEAKER_01:Husband's biggest struggle. Yeah. He's the supporter, you know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:He's having to what God is calling you to do, and you don't know how many lives you're gonna touch through this whole thing. Like, I just keep hearing what the enemy means for harm, God will use for good. And there's so many miracles in such small ways, big ways, it's all gonna come from this, and one day you will see how many lives her life has affected, and you too, by being obedient and and not giving up. Keep going, girl.
SPEAKER_05:Keep going, keep going, we listen, and we watching.
SPEAKER_02:We watching the beginning of the story. Like, yeah, there's oh, I'll get the frissons because it's in God.
SPEAKER_01:I said, make this my testimony.
SPEAKER_02:I forgot hands of the earth, Lord, and speak of your goodness. But I want, but give me a story, give me something to speak about. Yeah. So, yes, y'all, just whatever you feel the Lord calling you to do, it will be much appreciated. And you know, you can play a part and have a small uh part in this story. So and what a special story it is. Yes, yes. Um, let's end it out uh by saying thank you to our sponsor, How the Cajun Lady Accent. How the Cajun Lady Accent is the the purple heart too.
SPEAKER_05:She's the purple heart too, so that might be one of your god wings, too. Yeah, it's a godling. Yeah, take everything. Uh how the Cajun Lady accent, she's our friend, she's got amazing seasonings. Uh what we got, Creole.
SPEAKER_02:Creole's nautical, Cajun Waltz, um, Mexican Fiesta, which is one of my personal favorites.
SPEAKER_05:I have several in my cabinet right now. You can't go without Mexican Fiesta.
SPEAKER_02:No, um, spaghetti mix too, and chili mix. Oh, yes. Yeah, you just brown your ground meat and throw that in there. It's a quick and easy meal for your family and so tasty.
SPEAKER_05:I'm hungry right now.
SPEAKER_02:Yes, I know. You're making me hungry right now. Now, if you want the seafood, like you got some ball shrimp or something, she has ball that seafood butter that you can dip it in, like garlic butter. You can use it on your boil, your vegetables too.
SPEAKER_05:Yes, that garlic butter. The garlic butter, she's got the seafood boil in the uh seasoning and in the liquid form. So listen, she has no shortage and she also has a fry bada too. Do you know? Yeah. I need to try that. I haven't yet. Where's she at?
SPEAKER_02:She's on how the CajunLadyaccent.com is gonna be the best way to get it, but she's in a lot of grocery stores around here, too. She's stocked at a lot of places. Um, and if you're a merch type of gal, she has hats and t-shirts and stuff too. So y'all sign up for emails on her website so you can get the latest info of what she's got dropping.
