And That's Okay! When A New Year Feels Heavy

Most of us start a new year thinking we’ll feel motivated and unstoppable. But sometimes, despite our best plans, the year feels… heavy. And if that’s what you’re feeling, it’s not a mistake—it’s a signal worth noticing.
I want to start this episode honestly, because that matters to me.
When this year started, I actually felt motivated.
I didn’t come into January drained or stuck.
I closed out last year intentionally. I reflected. I assessed. I didn’t rush past it.
I didn’t sit down and map out every detail for the year ahead—but I did set daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals.
And that didn’t happen by accident.
That’s something I had to learn over time.
Because there were years where I didn’t do that.
Years where I buried my feelings. Years where I carried things without acknowledging them.
Years where I kept moving forward without listening to what my emotions were trying to tell me.
And what I’ve learned—sometimes the hard way—is that feelings don’t go away just because we ignore them.
They show up later. They show up heavier.
Maybe you opened your planner, ready to crush goals, and instead felt that familiar weight from last year… sitting on your shoulders like an uninvited guest. That’s completely okay.
