Welcome back to midlife with courage unfiltered. If you are here, you are supporting my podcast and I appreciate it so much. midlife with courage unfiltered is your opportunity to go a little bit deeper into the subjects I talk about on the regular public podcast. So let's not waste any more time. Let's get started.

Kim Benoy (00:30.704)

Hello, hello. This is another episode of Midlife with Courage Unfiltered and I am Kim Benoy as you well know because you are subscribed to this podcast. Thank you for that so much. I really appreciate that.

Kim Benoy (00:53.52)

So today I am inspired to share my spring thoughts with you. As I'm sitting here in my office where I record my podcast, I am looking out the window and I have a crabapple tree that sits right out right in front of our house right in front of my window.

Kim Benoy (01:21.678)

and it's just starting to bud out, they call it when the, is it leaf out or bud out? I think it's leaf out. The leaves are just starting to come out. It's as I'm recording this, it's mid April, almost late April. And the little leaves are just starting to come out. And I believe this year is the year when I have a really full,

Kim Benoy (01:47.638)

branches get really full of flowers and blossoms and they smell so good and when I open this window in my office the scent comes in and it's amazing for like five minutes. Unfortunately, well I should say I shouldn't say that crabapple trees their scent lasts a little bit longer than like lilacs. Lilacs are really nice too but they they literally are like one day you get a really good scent and that's about it usually. Anyway so today I'm just looking at this crabapple tree and how pretty it's going to be.

Kim Benoy (02:17.6)

And right now you can see the branches and you can see where we had to cut some of them because they were scraping against the house and that's not a good thing for insurance purposes and all the things. But when those branches are full of leaves and flowers, they are going to be so beautiful and I can't wait to see it. and hopefully this year, I don't know if we had a bird nest in there,

Kim Benoy (02:45.442)

almost every year except maybe last year, we've had a Robin come and build a nest there and have babies. So hopefully she'll do it again, or another one will come. We have a lot of them. So yeah, so just it's just got me thinking about how midlife can be a kind of a rebirth of sorts kind of like spring. You know, we go through the winter where it's where I live anyway, in Wisconsin, it's

Kim Benoy (03:15.536)

cold and snowy and wintry and cold and did I mention cold? And then in the spring we start it starts waking up again the earth I mean that kind of sounds cliche but the earth starts waking up again the grass is green yes we get rain and it's mucky and muddy sometimes but the the green and the warmth makes up for that and the flowers come out and like I said my crabapple tree starts blossoming and blooming and and greening up as well.

Kim Benoy (03:45.902)

So it's kind of like midlife where we live our life as young people. do what we have to do, whatever that path is. And we, you know, take care of who we need to take care of. We have our careers, we have our families or not, whatever it happens to be. And then something happens when we get to be, I don't know, for me, it was in my early forties.

Kim Benoy (04:14.319)

where I just realized, gosh, you know, I mean, I love my life, but I know there's more for me. There's more purpose for me to be doing what I'm doing, or there's different things that I could be doing. I think that's probably more of it. And it's just an amazing, it's an amazing time because if you follow that and listen to that voice saying there's more for you, you can do amazing things. You can do wonderful things. And

Kim Benoy (04:42.894)

I think the best part is you can try something and if it doesn't work, or you find out no, that really wasn't what I wanted to do. You just stop and try something else. It's not the all the the dramatic. my gosh, poor me thing. You know, it's just, well, that didn't work. Okay, next. What are we going to do now? And it's like spring when it's you've got this fresh start and a fresh

Kim Benoy (05:12.492)

fresh way to start over and to do something new. Spring just reminds me of that for some reason. So midlife can be like a series of springs. Maybe if we want to say that. Yeah, just don't be afraid to try. Think of it, think of midlife as spring. If we think about it as an ending, that's sad. That's, that's, I don't know, what's the word? I don't know. It's sad. So think of, think of midlife.

Kim Benoy (05:41.184)

my experience has been it's more of a spring. It's a fresh beginning. It's new. It's exciting. Things pop up that you've never seen before, never felt before, or never even heard of before maybe. And take that and enjoy that and and run with it. Follow that energy. I am all about the energy. Lately, I've been very, very attuned to the words that I say, and how I feel.

Kim Benoy (06:10.993)

And especially when I try something new, and then I have, maybe it's something that I'm a little bit afraid to put out into the world. Like recently I decided to offer sponsorships on my podcast and it took me a while to get to that point where I was able to just put it out, which I did. And the way I got there was,

Kim Benoy (06:40.162)

I've been kind of working under a scarcity mindset and with the, know, I can't afford this. can't, I, you know, this isn't affordable or I'm not making money and, whatever it is, it doesn't have to be money. can be other things too. can be joy and, whatever it happens to be. But I was in that scarcity money mindset. So I decided to change that.

Kim Benoy (07:09.02)

I listened to some affirmations in this podcast called limitless life, the limitless life. And she has these great every month she has affirmations and the month of March she had the scarcity, the non scarcity, I guess, affirmations about about money. I mean, let's be honest, we need money to live and to function in our world.  And so every morning, I would listen to that and

Kim Benoy (07:37.84)

In April, she changed, she had new affirmations, which were kind of expanding on it or going to the next step, which is already expecting that what you want is already there or it's on the way. And, and I'm not saying that that is why things have changed for me, but that's part of why I was more confident in creating a sponsorship program for the podcast and the subscription. Even, you know, you that are listening, you're part of that as well.

Kim Benoy (08:06.871)

asking people to pay me for my podcast, basically, and what I'm offering to the podcast. But it took me a while to, to realize that what I'm sharing with you is more than just other women's stories. There's more to it. There's connection and there's beauty and there's confidence and there's courage, of course, midlife with courage. But, and that is something that lights me up. It brings me to where I want to be.

Kim Benoy (08:36.72)

and it's beautiful and I love it and yeah it's okay to ask for money for that and when I I did get to that point without without like I didn't say that to myself this is the first time I'm really saying that but it just I I came to that point kind of gradually but I knew that it was right and it was okay and I

Kim Benoy (09:05.802)

it out in the world and it's bringing me success to be honest. At this point, why would I say to be honest? It's bringing me success. I'm going to leave it there. Okay. And I do have one sponsor for sure, signing in and there will be more. I know there's more interest in someone else has contacted me about it. So, and I'm not, I'm not, I don't feel like it's a bad thing.

Kim Benoy (09:35.252)

or not bad. I don't think it doesn't feel awkward to me anymore. It feels like the next logical step. And so that's what I'm doing. So now I'm trying to figure out how did this episode start from talking about spring to me sharing about sponsorships, but no, it will follow will follow the line. It makes sense. It will make sense when I listen back to this. So yeah. So what's your spring?

Kim Benoy (10:04.177)

What are your thoughts on this? How can you take the springtime concept and apply it to you and your life? Spring doesn't just have to be a date on the calendar. Spring can be whenever you want it to be. What's your rebirth? What's your new thing? What are, what's something that you haven't noticed before? What's something that you you've got in the back of your mind that you really want to try? You really want to do it, but something's just holding you back.

Kim Benoy (10:34.832)

Just think about that and write it down and think about what you would do to get whatever that thing is. All right.  hopefully that makes sense. So let me know, send me a text. I changed the send a text to talk to Kim in the show notes. So if you see that, that's where you can click on that and leave me a message and, or you can email me or if you know me personally, you can just send me a message or a text or whatever. So,

Kim Benoy (11:04.452)

Yeah, so thank you for that. And next time I will, I'm not even sure what I'll be talking about. I'm kind of waiting to be inspired a little bit. I do have some podcast episodes coming up that are going to be very, well, they're going to be dealing with mental health, me as mental health awareness month. And so I've got some thoughts on that and that's probably what our next month's episodes are going to be kind of focused around.

Kim Benoy (11:33.337)

We'll go a little bit deeper into those topics and share some personal thoughts and experiences with that. All right, ladies, thank you so much for your support of the Midlife with Courage podcast through this subscription and through your positive comments and your constructive feedback and everything you do. And I hope to talk to you soon and I hope that you have a beautiful day. Thank you so much.
