21 | The Audacity of Being “Too Much” and Why You Need to Keep Showing Up Anyway
Have you ever been told you’re “too much”? Too polished, too confident, too professional? I’ve heard it, my clients have heard it. And it’s time to call it what it is. In this episode, I share real stories from incredible women who’ve been told to be less of themselves, to shrink, to apologize for their brilliance. I talk about how I’ve internalized that kind of feedback too, and what I’ve learned about rejecting what isn’t mine to carry. If you’ve ever questioned your light because of someone else's discomfort, please listen in.
You don’t need to be less of yourself to make other people more comfortable. Your voice, your presence, your truth—it’s powerful just as it is. And anyone who can’t see that? That’s not your assignment.
Topics I Cover:
- What happened when two brilliant Black women were told to speak less or tone it down
- How racism, sexism, and toxic workplace culture can be hidden under the label of “feedback”
- Why I used to dim my light without realizing it—and how I stopped
- What to do when someone tells you to watch out for “too much flavor”
- What to do when opinions are projected onto you that don’t belong to you
- How your “too much” might actually be your superpower
This week’s affirmation:
“My voice is powerful just as it is, and I will make no apologies.”
