I want you to try something with me for a second. Close your eyes. Well, unless you're driving, of course. Now think of a moment when something, maybe a song or a scent, a view, a memory, stopped you in your tracks. A moment where you felt something shift inside of you. Even for just a second. Got it? That my friend is a beautiful fix.
Today we're diving into what a beautiful fix really is, why it matters and how you can start noticing the ones in your life. And selfishly, I want to hear about yours because this podcast It's as much about you as it is about me. Actually, it's about us, about connection, about remembering that we're in this together.
So what do I mean when I say a beautiful fix? It's not just happiness. It's not just pleasure. It's deeper than that. It's those moments that stop you. That reset you, that bring you back to yourself, the ones that shift your state, your energy, even if just for a moment. For some, it might be stepping outside and feeling the warmth of the sun on your face.
I always love those first few days of spring when I get a chance to walk out on my deck in my backyard and just find that sliver of sun and feel that warmth. For others, it's, hearing the first notes of a favorite song of yours or standing in the ocean or catching a whiff of coffee in the morning.
I'm not even a coffee drinker, but I love the way coffee smells. It's not just about what's beautiful to the eye either, it's about what moves you, what reaches in and grabs you and makes you feel something. For me, I have so many, but my biggest beautiful fix has always been music. And there's one piece of music that does this for me every single time.
You see, I grew up playing classical piano, so I've always been drawn to it. But Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata? That one's different. I don't even remember when I first heard it, but I remember how it made me feel. The moment those first notes play. Something inside me shifts. The music, it lingers. It refuses to be rushed.
It's almost like it's asking you to just be in the moment. Moonlight Sonata, it's delicate, but it also carries so much weight, if that makes sense. It's quiet, but it holds so much power. You don't just listen to it. You feel it. And I don't mean listening to Moonlight Sonata while you're doing the dishes and you're rushing around.
No, no, I mean, I mean listening to it with your AirPods in or your headphones on or you're laying down in your bed and you are focused on feeling this piece of music. And that's just the thing about beautiful things. They hold a vibrational energy. They can instantly lift you just by being in their presence.
They can change your state instantly. And I started noticing how my state would change whenever I'm immersed in something truly beautiful, whether it's music or art or nature or even just a simple moment of connection. So I started seeking it out. I started looking for it.
The corporate world, and I found myself at home with time on my hands to just be for the first time, I think, ever. I've always been doing something. I've always been working. I started working when I was 14 years old. If I did take a break, it was because I was home on maternity leave, or I was home raising my sons when they were really, really, really, young.

So I was always doing something, but this particular time in my life, I found myself with the ability to just be. And people would ask me, well, Tracy, you know, what's next for you? What, what do you love to do? Like, what do you want to do? And I couldn't answer that. I had turned that part of me off. A long time ago, but what I did realize is that anything that made me feel alive, there was this thread going through it.
This thread of beauty again, I'm not talking about makeup or, you know, fashion. I'm talking about. I love being around beautiful things. Sometimes that's real estate. I worked in the real estate world. I loved beautiful, classy corporate office buildings. I also love residential homes. One of the things that I used to love to do while I was working, uh, during my lunch, I would love to sneak away to PaperSource.
Now this was before PaperSource was in, um, a lot of retail stores in Chicago. They used to have one right off of Well Street. I don't know if they still do. But I would sneak away. to paper source and go in there and literally spend my lunch hour just looking at all the beautiful papers and the pens and the journals and the stamps and the ribbon and your creative juices would just start flowing.
And I would often pick up a few things having no idea what I'm going to do with them. But again, it would just make me come alive. I would feel this rush of energy. So, I started to put myself in places where I could experience it or, you Just stop myself in my tracks when I found myself in its presence, when I'm taking a walk in my neighborhood and I look up and I see the sunset.
I would stop myself and really take it in because it's everywhere. It's everywhere. It's in everyone. It's in everything. It's in the stillness. It's in the movement. It's everywhere. It's in the movement. It's in the way something makes you catch your breath and say, wow.
And it's different for everyone. Like they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You see, there are no rules here. There's no right or wrong. So my question for you is, do you recognize it? Do you stop and admire it when you see it? And do you feel gratitude for it? Because the more you notice, the more it finds you.
So, my friend, what's your beautiful fix? Maybe it's music too. Maybe it's a song that instantly shifts your mood. Maybe it's the sound of rain. Or maybe you don't know yet. And that's okay. That's actually exciting because now you get to start paying attention. You get to start looking for it. So here's my challenge for you this week.
Start noticing. What shifts your energy? What makes you feel lighter, more you? What stops you in your tracks and reminds you how beautiful life is?
