The luxury of saying yes: why tiny indulgences matter
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is say yes to yourself. In this episode, I share how my husband and I almost skipped celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary—and why we finally chose to honor the moment (and ourselves) anyway.
We talk about redefining luxury, giving yourself permission to celebrate your life, and how small indulgences can feel like big wins. From our Chicago staycation to the deeper reasons we put joy on hold, this one’s your reminder that intentional living starts with one simple yes.

A Beautiful Fix
The luxury of saying yes: why tiny indulgences matter
I'm curious, when was the last time you said yes to something? Just because it felt good, not because it was logical or the right thing to do, or it was the right time, but just because it mattered to you. Like, are you a celebrator? Are you someone who celebrates your birthday all week or all month? Or how for some people, all season?
I'm not. I've never been. I don't know why I am not a big. I don't make a big deal outta my birthdays or, um, out of Mother's Day or Valentine's Day or any of those things, and. I've kind of started to do that with my anniversaries as well. So I wanna tell you a quick story, but I wanna start with the end in mind.
By the end of this, I want you to really think about your own life and how you celebrate yourself or. Life in general and kind of encourage you to do a little bit more of that. But I'll start with a quick story. So on the 12th, my husband and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary, and, um, which is a big, it's a big deal.
I mean, it's not 30, but it's not nothing. It, and probably the last time that we actually went away somewhere for our anniversary was probably our fifth anniversary. So it's been a while. We tend to just push it off. It just gets lost. It's important to us, but it just gets lost. There's other things that come up.
People come in town, um, you know, life happens and we just always seem to just say, well, we'll just go to dinner. Well, this year we were starting down that same path and we kind of just stopped and we're like, we're doing it. We're gonna, we're just gonna keep it simple and do something. And so we decided to just celebrate our anniversary in our own city.
In the city of Chicago, which is just, I've seen the world, I've traveled the world, I've seen all of, most, most of the major cities. And Chicago is still my absolute favorite. Chicago in the summertime, that's key in the summertime, the fall, the spring, not so much the winter. Um, but anyway, we decided to just go and stay at the peninsula.
Hotel in Chicago for just a couple of days to celebrate our anniversary. Um. You know, we thought, keep it simple. No flights, no airports, just fun. And the big thing that we wanted to do was really enjoy the hotel. Like, make that the destination. And, um, just spot up. We spent the entire day, um, one of the days that we were there the entire day.
We just enjoyed the beautiful spa that they have at the Peninsula. And it was wonderful. I mean, think. Aromatherapy from the moment the elevator doors open. Um, fresh fruit, fruit infused water throughout teas. Soft music. Soft lighting, comfy blankets, steam rooms. Um, they had a hot tub, a lap pool, just. Mm.
The kind of thing where you can just exhale and relax and we loved it. We both got facials. We both got massages. And for any of you guys that know my husband, we are complete opposites. And he talked through his entire massage. I wasn't in the same room with him. We had completely different, um, experiences, but when I came out, his masseuse.
It came up to me and she was telling me all the stories that John was telling her about my podcast, and then she was like, I'm in, I've already downloaded. I'm gonna follow you. I'm, I wanna talk to you about human design, the whole thing. And I kept saying, did John talk to you through the entire massage?
She was like, yeah, pretty much. Meanwhile, I. Learned my, um, the, the person's name. His name was Nick. It's amazing if you ever go to the peninsula and enjoy the spot. Ask for Nick for sure. And I learned where he lived and that was about it because when it comes to massage, I can barely think, let alone talk.
But anyway, you know, we both enjoyed it. Um, so it was absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend doing something like that. You don't need to go far away to just enjoy. Life. It was easy. We did in-room dining. We just really spoiled ourselves and it was only for, you know, a couple of days. So it was absolutely wonderful.
But it got me really thinking how we can't take these moments for granted. 29 years of marriage is huge. I met John when I was 16 years old. We have several friends that, you know, have, have parted ways. And so it's something that I don't wanna take lightly and I don't wanna take it for granted and I wanna celebrate it.
So it was just one of those things that it made me realize the important things in life. So something for you to kind of think about, you know? Is this something you do or maybe not? Maybe you are one who really gets it and takes the time, you know, to celebrate your life. And it, it doesn't have to be luxurious.
It can be things like, you know, you can indulge yourself by saying no to something that you don't wanna do, or that drains you. Or maybe you wake up a little bit earlier just to enjoy some, some time with yourself. Maybe you sleep in. For just a little bit longer, maybe if you do decide to go on vacation, you stay an extra night.
Um, you can order a large instead of a small when you go get your Starbucks. Or maybe take a class instead of just watching, you know, yoga on, um, YouTube. Maybe actually treat yourself to an in-person class. Just little things. Little things. It's not necessarily about the money, it's more so about the intention.
So I ask you, what have you been pushing off until later? What tiny indulgence have you convinced yourself you don't need right now? What if you just said yes to it? So my friends this week. I invite you to find one little luxury, big or small, that one thing you keep saying no to and say yes. It might just be the beginning of something beautiful.
So until next time, keep getting high on life one beautiful fix at a time.
