SPEAKER_00:

There's a moment before every binge where something inside you disappears. A moment where you no longer feel like you. A moment where your body screams for comfort. This moment has a name. I call it the Quiet Depletion. And once you understand it, everything starts to make sense. Welcome back to the Plus One Theory Podcast. And if you're new here, I am so glad you found your way to this space. I'm Pam Dwyer, your host, best-selling author, and creator of Delay the Binge Method. Today is a special episode because we're starting something new. Something gentle, powerful, and deeply needed. But before we dive in, I want you to hear me say this clearly. You are not broken. You're exhausted. And your binging isn't a failure. It's a signal. This episode is dedicated to understanding that signal and giving you tools to finally interrupt the cycle in a way that is compassionate, simple, and doable. Even if you've tried everything else. So let's get started. There's a moment before every binge where something inside you disappears. A moment where you no longer feel like you. I mean a moment where your body screams for comfort and your brain shuts down its ability to think clearly. This moment has a name. I call it the quiet depletion. And once you understand it, everything starts to make sense. Let's break this down. So today's episode becomes a foundation. Quiet depletion is that state where you've pushed past your limits for so long that you stop feeling your own needs. It looks like emotional numbness, chronic exhaustion, functioning on autopilot. Just get through today mode and disappearing inside yourself. It's the long-term wear and tear on your nervous system. I give it a simple name because you can't heal what you can't identify. Quiet depletion is your soul running on fumes. So you'll hear me talk a lot about lower brain chatter. This is the survival brain, the part of your mind that reacts instantly when you feel overwhelmed. It's fast, it's loud, it wants relief now. It doesn't think, it reacts. It's very short term. This is the voice that says, eat it now. You need it, you're stressed, you're anxious. Buy it, scroll it, drink it, or I just want to escape. It's the same system that fires when you touch something hot. It's not logical, it's protective. This is the higher brain. So now let's talk about the frontal cortex re-engagement. This is the higher brain. You know, it's the part responsible for clear thinking, language, speaking, rational decisions, long-term goals, self-awareness. Here's the neuroscience that will blow your mind. Your lower brain does not control speech. Your frontal cortex does. So when you speak an emotion out loud, even saying, I feel an urge coming on, you automatically pull the frontal cortex back online. This is why naming your feelings softens the urge. It's not emotional, it's neurological. My approach is simple. It's not a quick fix, it's not a diet, and it's not a discipline program. It's based on three pauses. Pause number one is you gotta name it. You gotta say out loud, I'm feeling overwhelmed right now. I feel empty inside. This is an urge. This is an unhealthy urge for me. This brings the frontal cortex online instantly. Pause number two is you locate it. Where is it in your body? Is it in your chest, your stomach, your throat? This interrupts the survival loop. And pause number three, you meet the need. You ask yourself, what do I actually need right now? Rest, reassurance, comfort, support, stillness, connection. Binges aren't about food. They're about an unmet need. So we learn all of this together in the delay the binge collective. And I notice that some people don't join right away. I think they're hiding or they're ashamed. They think they should just fix it alone, and they fear being exposed. They don't want to talk about feelings, and they're depleted and have no energy for something deep. They don't know what the collective actually is yet. So let me make this safe and simple. You don't have to share, you don't have to talk, and you don't have to participate at all. You can simply listen. There's no sales funnel here, no pressure, just belonging to a group of people struggling in the same way you are. We were originally planning to launch this months ago, but our community wasn't quite ready. So here's the update. We are planning to launch the Delay the Binge Collective in early January of the new year, 2026. Because January is the perfect time to analyze, reset, restore, breathe again. We'll confirm the exact date as soon as enough people join the wait list. You can join at delay the binge.com, and when you do, you'll get the Holiday Urge survival kit immediately. Totally free. No gimmicks, no catch, just support. The Delay the Binge Collective is like a weekly podcast style experience with a guest who's struggling with the binge pattern. And I sit beside them, not as a coach, but as a guide, a connector, a thinker, someone who's been through the same thing. We explore the patterns, we find their pause, we uncover their depletion, and we identify their needs and we circle back to see how they're doing. This is the impact of real people sharing real struggles. This is inside the pause, real connection with me at your side. And yes, I need guests. You can come on anonymously if you prefer. And we will be inviting mental health professionals, wellness experts, nervous system specialists, bariatric specialists, trauma-informed guests, nutrition support, and there's emotional resilience experts. So many, all sharing perspectives that help you understand your urges in a way that finally makes sense. So why does this method work when others don't? Well, diets focus on food. Willpower focuses on self-punishment, and therapy is a wonderful, wonderful thing to do. But it's often about the past. Delay the binge focuses on the moment. The moment you are in, the pause, the need, the identity restoration. Habits change when your identity changes. This method is compassionate, simple, trauma aware, nervous system aligned, and designed for people who are exhausted, not broken. You don't have to change everything. You just have to pause long enough to come home to yourself again. I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was filled with lots of plus one moments. My family gathered and we shared food, stories, and our goals for 2026. Mine is to finally launch Delay the Binge, and I can't wait for everyone to learn from my own experiences and to share this with anyone that needs it right now in their life. Thank you for spending this time with me today. If anything in this episode resonated with you, even a little, I want you to know something. You're not failing, you're not weak, and you're not alone. You're just tired. And tired people don't need discipline. They need a pause, they need devotion. So join us at delaythebench.com. Get your free holiday kit and be part of something new.
