SPEAKER_02:

Hey everybody, it's Randy and Beverly. Welcome to the Heart vs. Head Podcast. Hi, Beverly. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. It is uh the the end of season one of The Heart vs. Head. It is hard to believe that on Valentine's Day earlier this year, we we started this podcast, put out an episode a week and some bonus episodes along the way, and have made uh lots of new friends along the way. So Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all of you, whatever you're celebrating this time of year. We are gonna take a week off, spend some time with family next week, so uh won't have an episode, but we will be back with season two of Heart versus Head on January 7th, Wednesday. We post every Wednesday morning and uh try to keep our episode short. Uh today, what we wanted to do is give you the gift of if you are new to this podcast and you say, Okay, Randy Beverly, what would you tell me to go listen to if I had to binge something around the holidays? What episodes should I go listen to? So we went and picked some of our favorites and some of them that we think, and so we just want to give you a quick recap of a couple episodes to go to go listen to. First of all, there there are there are two that we kind of we both liked. There are two that I I I think are important, and there are two that Beverly thinks are important. So let's start with the two we both like. Beverly, you had one episode that I liked, you liked. What episode was that?

SPEAKER_01:

Space Aliens was my favorite. Space Aliens. And I think the reason why that one uh is one of the top for the year for me, is that I refer to it all the time with clients. It's one of those things where I think humans, partly because the way our brain has these mirror neurons, is we're always assuming that we're like the person that we're with. And what I always have to keep pointing out to my clients is that we are absolutely two different people. And I think it just helps with expectations and needs. It helps with getting uh upset with someone or offended, thinking that someone's silence or why haven't they answered my text message has to do with this or with that. And at the end of the day, we're all so dang different.

SPEAKER_02:

We have no idea what the other person's thinking, feeling, going through, any of those things. The the episode is called They're All Space Aliens, and you can find it in the in the history in season one. Um, for me, it really was the the episode This Made Me Happy. I I think for heads, we spend so much time trying to make our partner happy. And that episode set me free in a lot of ways, because Beverly said something along the way in that episode that that really was was so crucial and so important uh to kind of help me figure out uh w where I'd been going wrong even in our relationship. She said, you know, I don't know how you spend so much time and effort trying to make me happy. I don't even know what makes me happy from moment to moment. Um, because hearts are are constantly changing and the emotions that that hearts have with that are are always ebbing and flowing, and and that's just the way life is. Yeah, fluid. Um so go back, check that one out. The episode is called This Made Me Happy. Um, and that was that was my uh my personal favorite in that regard.

SPEAKER_01:

I think from a practical standpoint, the 10-minute vent is is a great episode if you're looking for hands-on solutions, techniques, tips to use. That one really gives you a way to have conversations, to keep them positive. We're all looking to have less negativity in our life uh this time of year or all the time. So I really do think the 10-minute vent is a great one to tap into if you're looking for a unique uh way to show up in your uh in your relationship.

SPEAKER_02:

And a and a practical one uh you know, from my perspective is are you a heart or a head? It it really is that episode, are you a heart or a head, really kind of defines all the the stuff behind where we came up with the theory of heart and head and how how we fit into it and how people fit into it in their relationship. So if you want to get a broad understanding of what in the heck are Randy and Beverly talking about every week when they talk about heart and head, go check out Are You a Heart or a Head. What's a what's another episode that you connected with, Beverly?

SPEAKER_01:

Um, Cockroaches and Kittens is just funny and really shows how differently we we view things and just the the humor, I think, that is so necessary in a relationship. I think it really comes across in that podcast. Sometimes we take on more of a serious tone just based on the day, our our own things that we're going through, or based on the content. That one was just a definite fun moment, fun podcast. So check it out if you haven't.

SPEAKER_02:

Cockroaches and kittens. That was an early one. It was it was way back in the the very beginning of all of this, and to this day ranks as one of the the most listened to because I think the people see the title and they're like, Cockroaches and kittens, what does that have to do with relationships and what does that have to do with anything? Well, if you haven't heard it, I guess you should go check that one out. Finally, the episode that was key for me was the moment. Screw you, Nicholas Sparks. Um, and that's a that's a uh kind of a a joke that we have running in the family. Um Nicholas Sparks, a great writer, but it's really these moments in our relationship where we realize that we've let our partner down. When are these moments? Because those moments are so critical. There's a moment in every relationship where your partner says or does something, and you feel the disappointment, you feel the sadness, you feel the disconnect that you felt in all your other relationships, and it's a really tough moment for relationships, and it may it may not be the big crux of the fight that that you're having now, but it's the moment that things began to decay, and the ability to recover, and the the desire and and all of those things change in a relationship. So go check out the moment. Screw you, Nicholas Sparks. Beverly, it's been an awesome ride through season one. I have enjoyed it immensely. I'm really excited that we haven't thumped each other or anything like that. We seem to get along very well together on the podcast. You had I'd say we get along together off the podcast off the podcast, maybe not as much on the podcast, but anybody can hang out for 20 minutes, Randy. Really?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay.

SPEAKER_01:

Without fighting, I would hope. So I don't know. Maybe not. Depends on the day. That's true. Um, I want to leave with one parting gift. Uh, you know, it is the holidays, and and gifts abound, and it's better to give than receive.

SPEAKER_02:

Hit us with it, Santa Beverly.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay, so the biggest holiday truth, I think, that most couples miss is that when we go through the holidays because of the stress and the excitement and so forth, the expectation of it of it all, whatever we're going through is going to be amplified. So, for example, if we're feeling stress going through the holidays, stress is gonna get louder. If we're feeling uh unappreciated or not a priority, we're gonna feel that even more. And what we need to recognize is that the holidays sometimes seem like it's about maybe these gifts or things externally, but at the end of the day, it's beyond this week or two of holidays. It's about the whole year, it's about our life, our relationship. And so remember your partner. Remember that whatever you're feeling, they're probably feeling. It's good to take a breath, to connect for a moment, to check in, to ask what we can do, what what does my partner need? And uh just remember that when we feel safe, when we feel that we're connected, when we know we're a priority, when we just have these small moments, they make all the difference in the world. The the greatest gift of all is really your relationship, and it's already there. Let's not neglect it, let's pay attention to it.

SPEAKER_02:

And that's one of the things that we've been successful at. Your last name, my last name, different, Beverly Craddock, Randy Hampton. But we we always talk about Team Crampton. Team Crampton to the point that the kids talk about it and make up your own cute, lovely name, uh or or whatever you want for your team, but you are on the same team. Give yourself some grace, give your partner some grace. Happy holidays, everybody. Thank you for tuning in. Be sure and and like, follow, subscribe, do all the stuff that you're supposed to do that apparently helps the algorithm to help us keep doing this, and that'd be a marvelous gift for us. And tell your friends, please. This has been a fun ride, season one, and and we are really looking forward to season two. We'll see you with episode one, season two. That will be coming at you uh on January 7th.

SPEAKER_01:

Yep.

SPEAKER_02:

We'll we'll talk to you all soon.

SPEAKER_01:

Aloha.
