Breathe and Be
Letting Go With The Rhythm Of The Season
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We guide a slow, breath-led meditation set against a November rain, using the season’s pace to practice letting go with care. We move from sensory grounding to gentle release, then return with a single clear reflection to carry into the day.
Have a meditation idea you'd love to hear? I’d be delighted to bring it to life! Feel free to share your thoughts by emailing me at therapy@maryannmsw.com
Return From A Restful Pause
SPEAKER_01Hello, and welcome back to Breathe and Be. I'm Marianne, and I'm so glad you're here. It's good to be here with you again after taking a short pause. Time to rest, to practice what I encourage so often in others. Self-care and balance. Sometimes stepping back for a week is exactly what helps us return with awareness instead of exhaustion. Today's meditation is about letting go in rhythm with the season itself. We'll sit together inside a quiet house, looking out at the cold November rain, the kind that feels like it could turn to snow at any moment. This is the space between seasons, the in-between that invites us to release, to rest, and to trust in the slowing down. Take a slow breath in through your nose and let it ease out through your mouth.
SPEAKER_00Another deep inhale. Let your body settle. Lean into the rhythm of your breathing. You're inside, safe and warm.
SPEAKER_01Outside the window, the world is muted. Clouds stretch low and heavy, and rain taps against the glass in steady patterns. The light is soft, a silvery gray, and the air looks so cold that at any moment the rain might shift. Droplets thickening, hesitating, maybe even becoming sleet before eventually turning to snow.
SPEAKER_00You watch for a moment, just breathing, just noticing.
Imagining Trees And Letting Go
SPEAKER_01Inside the air holds a gentle stillness. All a reminder that you are here, present and alive. The house seems to breathe with you a quiet hum of safety and rest. Let your attention drift to your body now. Notice where it meets the surface beneath you. Notice any tension and give it permission to soften. If your shoulders are holding the weight of the day, let them lower just a little. If your jaw feels tight, part your lips slightly. Let your breath become the rhythm that melts what's been clinging. As you breathe, imagine the trees outside. Most of their leaves have already fallen. To let go, not out of defeat, but from a quiet understanding that letting go makes room for rest. With each exhale, imagine setting something down. A worry that's been circling. An expectation that feels too heavy. A responsibility you've carried alone for too long. You don't have to drop everything. Just one small thing, something ready to be released. Notice how your body feels as you imagine this release. The subtle shift, the ease that follows, the way space opens inside your chest. When you give yourself permission to let go. Spiraling down toward the sidewalk. Each one lands with a quiet, softened sound, like a whisper against the rain slit ground. People pass by below, heads tucked down, jackets held close around them. They move quickly, as if they're not quite ready for the cold that's creeping in.
Street Scene And The Grace Of Slowing
SPEAKER_00Not ready for the long nights or the silence that comes with winter. And yet there's something honest in this moment.
SPEAKER_01The way the world slows down, shows its raw edges. The way the season doesn't ask for perfection, only acceptance. You watch as a gust of wind lifts a few leaves into motion again, spinning them briefly before they settle once more. It's a quiet dance of letting go, reminding you that even in stillness there is movement, even in loss, there is grace. Let your breath flow with that rhythm. In and out, soft and steady, like rain against the window, like the leaves that fall and rest where they land.
SPEAKER_00Now bring your attention back to the warmth inside.
SPEAKER_01The light in the room feels softer somehow, like it's gathered around you in quiet understanding. You might place a hand over your heart. Feel the warmth there. Remember that, like the earth, you have seasons within you. Some are bright, full of growth, and some ask for stillness, for quiet, for release. You are allowed to be in this season of rest. You are allowed to let things lie bare. You are allowed to soften into the stillness. Take a few more mindful breaths. Each one a gentle act of letting go. Letting go of the need to rush, letting go of what no longer serves you.
SPEAKER_00Letting go of the pressure to always be blooming for others.
SPEAKER_01As we begin to return, keep the softness you found here.
SPEAKER_00Notice the room around you, the faint sounds, the temperature of the air against your skin.
SPEAKER_01You might gently wiggle your fingers and toes, roll your shoulders, stretch your spine, tilt your neck from side to side. Move in any way that feels natural. When you're ready, open your eyes if they were closed, and take in the space before you. Perhaps it's shifted to quiet snow. Whatever the weather, it mirrors the cycle of change. The reminder that everything moves, everything transforms, and we are part of that rhythm too. Before you go, take a moment to reflect. What is one thing you might gently set down this season? Something that's ready to rest, even if just for a while. May you move through the season with kindness, patience, and ease. Until next time, take good care of yourself and don't forget to pause when you need to.
