Let’s Get Real with Jena Burris
Welcome to Let’s Get Real, the podcast for women who feel like they’re holding it all together on the outside… but falling apart on the inside.
If you’re exhausted from pretending, overwhelmed by the pressure to be everything for everyone, or unsure who you even are anymore—you’re not alone. And you’re not crazy.
Let’s Get Real is where we have honest conversations about the struggles most people avoid—healing emotional wounds, losing yourself in motherhood, rebuilding your identity, and learning how to live whole again.
I’m Jena Burris—wife, mom, and your host. With a background in marriage and family therapy, life coaching, and years spent navigating life behind the scenes of the NFL and Hollywood, I’m passionate about creating a space where real conversations lead to real healing.
Each week, you’ll hear real stories, practical tools, and the reminder that freedom is closer than you think. Because I believe that in order to heal, we have to get real.

Losing Yourself in Motherhood—And Finding Your Way Back
You know those moments where someone asks you something simple like, “What do you do for fun?” and your brain short-circuits?
You draw a blank. You panic.
Because... you honestly don’t know.
That’s a sign that you’ve likely lost yourself in motherhood and is what Jena dives into in this episode.
If you’ve ever felt like motherhood slowly erased the version of you that used to dream, dance, or do anything just for you, this is a must-listen.
Jena shares a vulnerable story of when she realized she had truly lost herself—pregnant with baby number two, stuck inside during the dead of winter, solo parenting while her husband was away.
It all came to a head over smoothies with a friend, when she blurted out, “I feel dead inside.” And they both laughed—but not the happy kind. The kind where you realize, Oh wow... this is serious.
That moment cracked something open. Because the truth is, motherhood can bury you beneath endless snacks, forgotten field trip forms, and the emotional weight of an entire household.
And often, no one sees it—not even you—until something snaps.
Jena walks us through how she began the slow, guilt-ridden process of reclaiming herself. It started with a panic attack in a parking lot that landed her in counseling, physical therapy, and learning to ask for help (without shame).
Her honesty is refreshing, her insight comforting, and her message clear: survival mode is not supposed to be permanent.
She reminds us that healing doesn’t have to be massive. Sometimes it’s five minutes of journaling.
Or joining a dance class because it makes you feel alive. Or simply locking the door while you take a bath—without tiny humans asking you for snacks.
This episode is about recognizing that your needs still matter. That you’re allowed to take up space. And that version of you before the overwhelm? She’s still there, waiting to be seen again.
Motherhood can leave you feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from who you are.
