Episode 30: How to Quiet a Barking Brain for Busy Moms — with Phyllis Coletta

If your mind feels like it never stops barking — you’re not alone.
Between managing schedules, cleaning up spills, remembering appointments, and trying to keep everyone alive and loved… motherhood can feel like living inside a mental hurricane.

For many moms, the noise never stops.
The lists, the worries, the self-doubt.
What’s for dinner? Did I respond to that text? Am I failing my kids?

But what if the loudest noise in your life isn’t outside — it’s inside your own head?

This week, I sat down with Phyllis Coletta, a former litigation attorney, single mom of three boys, and the author of How to Be a Good Dog: Learning to Sit, Stay, and Heal. Her story is equal parts hilarious, honest, and deeply human. Phyllis has lived through the burnout, anxiety, and chaos that so many of us know all too well — and she’s found a simple, loving way to calm it all down.

Her approach?
Train your mind like a puppy.

Because, as Phyllis puts it:

“Our minds are like untrained puppies — barking, running wild, and exhausting us. But with love, patience, and consistency, they can learn to sit, stay, and heal.”

From Chaos to Calm

Before discovering meditation, Phyllis described her life as “Mach 4 with my hair on fire.”
She was juggling life as a single mom, working as an attorney in a male-dominated field, and constantly running on fumes. Every day was a race — and the noise inside her head only got louder.

By her early 40s, she hit a breaking point. The anxiety, the pressure, the overthinking — it was too much.
“I got sick of myself,” she says. “I knew something had to change.”

What followed was a journey that changed everything. Phyllis found meditation — but not the kind that requires robes, mountain retreats, or hours of silence.
She found a way to make it simple, real, and rooted in everyday life.

Because peace isn’t found in perfection — it’s found in practice.

In This Episode:

💨 What it really means to “pause” and how 10 seconds can change an entire day
🧘‍♀️ Simple, practical ways to meditate when you don’t have time (or quiet)

Why This Episode Matters

If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking, “I can’t stop my mind,” this episode will feel like a breath of fresh air.

Phyllis’s approach is refreshingly real, deeply funny, and full of grace. It’s not about escaping your life — it’s about learning to live it differently.

Because peace isn’t found on a mountain top.
It’s found in the car line, in the chaos, and in the small moments where you choose to pause instead of react.
