Limpias, Energy, and Releasing What Isn’t Yours
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
That “heavy for no reason” feeling can be the loudest clue that you’re carrying energy that never belonged to you. We slow down together, take a real breath, and get honest about how stress can lodge in the body as tightness, racing thoughts, exhaustion, and that constant sense of being on edge when nothing “big” even happened.
We talk limpias as ancestral medicine, not a trend and not something you need to be “fixed” for. We connect the dots between emotional boundaries and spiritual cleansing, including why curanderismo practices like the huevo cleanse, sage, romero, smoke, cleansing water, prayer, and clear intention can help release emotional residue and energetic attachments. We also break down the everyday ways energy sticks to us: overgiving, people pleasing, sitting in gossip-heavy environments, and swallowing anger or resentment until the body becomes the container.
You’ll get a guided release practice you can do anywhere with breath and imagery, plus a reminder to listen to your capacity when your body says you’re overextending. We also share what it looks like to protect your energy while still loving your people, especially during hard seasons and big healing journeys. If you’re ready to go deeper with energy work and coaching, we share how to join the Aimijita Collective. Subscribe, share this with someone who carries too much, and leave a review with the boundary you’re practicing this week.

Breathe And Set The Tone
DoraHey hey, Mijita. I want you to take a deep breath with me. Like really. Inhale and exhale. Because this episode, this one isn't just something you listen to. This is something you feel. Today we're talking about limpias, energy, and releasing what isn't yours. And I need you to hear me when I say this. A lot of what you're carrying right now is not yours. So we'll get all into everything. Go grab your cafecito, tea, beverage of choice, water, and let's dig into today's episode. Let me ask you something. Have you ever felt heavy and you don't even know why? Like nothing happened necessarily, but your body feels tired, your chest feels tight, your mind is racing. And you ask yourself, the preguntas, what's wrong with me? Oh mejita, what if nothing is wrong with you? What if you're carrying just way too much? Not just your own pain or or but your mom's fears, your dad's silence, your family's expectations, or your partner's emotions, or maybe it's some friend trauma that you just encountered. You become the one who holds everything. And somewhere along the way, you forgot to ask, is this even mind? And the reason I say that is because I've been going through my own carrying of everything. And until recently, that I had a conversation with my husband, did I realize that I was carrying the responsibility of like the family well-being, um, the finances, the everybody, you know, logistically being where they need to be, the caregiving for the house and all the chores and things. And sometimes it's like we can delegate. And it feels so good to delegate, especially if you have kiddos or if you have others to delegate too. But the other thing is too, like helping others, right? Like I help my mom out a lot with all the things she needs. People come to me for help. And sometimes it's like I'm holding all these things, right? I feel like I'm juggling all these balls. But sometimes it's okay to let the ball drop. Because we need those boundaries. We need to say, save our energy, and especially right now in the in the era or the season of life I'm at, I need to save and conserve this energy. So again, it comes back to discernment. Is this even mine? Like, is this is this energy or this thing or this responsibility that I'm carrying even mine? I want to take you back because for many of us, this isn't new. This is something we've been raised around. Maybe you saw your abuelita with the huevo in her hand, with an egg, or maybe you remember the smell of herbs, of sage, of candles burning in the corner, incense, and maybe you just didn't understand it then. But your body did. Limpias are not woo-woo. So this is where we're gonna get into how they are ancestral medicine. They are a way of saying I release what I've absorbed, I come back to myself, I clear what doesn't belong to me. And the truth is, our ancestors didn't have the language of nervous system regulation, quote unquote, or emotional boundaries, but they knew that it was energy. They felt it, they worked with it. And ironically, they knew kind of what to do with like how to pray, how to go to how to go about it. And it's similar to me, of understanding like how to move my hands when I'm healing someone, or moving the egg around and then cracking it open, and then how to read the egg also, too, is that inner knowing, that inner knowledge. So most of these practices go back many, many generations, and I've learned through other cultures too, they have similar things. And it's just so surprising to me how these simple practices are able to balance us back into our energy and extrapolate any negative energy that we are carrying. For me, this wasn't something I just learned. This was something I lived. From a very young age, I became the one who held everything together. I was a strong one, the caretaker, the one who didn't have the space to fall apart. And I didn't realize it then, but I was absorbing everything. The tension in the house, the emotions no one talked about, the pain that was never per processed. And as I got older, it didn't stop. It just became who I was. I was the one who people come to, the one who held space, the one who fixed, the one who gave it all, gave it a thousand and ten percent. But inside, I was tired. It felt happy, disconnected from myself. And it wasn't until I started my healing journey, especially through like going through the motions of feeling. I was living in this kind of my like it was just a hamster wheel of working, working, working, going through those motions, and then coming 10 to the family, and then do it all over again the next day, right? Go to work, come home, da-da-da-da-da. And I got introduced to therapy um and working with a life coach that I was able to start tapping into these emotions. That's when I realized, wow, like I can be angry, I can be sad, I can be happy all at once. And then I got introduced to the spiritual work, working with my shaman, learning how um to go on, like tap into deeper into my intuition, the journeying as a shaman in shamanism, um, what curandarismo means, and then also working through like astrology, human design, but then delving into the Akashic records. There's so much wealth of knowledge that I carry, and for some reason, I'm I feel like I'm remembering things that my ancestors knew already. And that's where I started tapping into the limpias, where um limpia is where you clear out the negative energy, and it could be sent to you, or it could be something that you hold. Um, and I actually, and when I do my limpias on my clients, I usually start with the egg cleansing and then I move on to the sage. And with sage, it gives me the indication like what is going on with the person. And I start from the bottom and then work my way up the chakra system. That's when doing that work, that's when I realized, like when I was doing it for myself, but then I started hearing from others that they needed it for themselves. I wasn't just healing my pain, I was releasing everyone else's too. And that is something that, especially for my mom, watching her like see me evolve into this healing work, and especially now with my cancer journey, it's like I'm able to absorb and I'm able to manage so much healing on so many levels, and I'm able to have this space for others. Like I do have it, but I also have to be very careful on how do I limit my energy, right? How do I know that I'm exceeding myself? Like I give a great example physically. I about, you know, earlier this month I pulled a muscle in my chest. And actually, that same muscle that I pulled is how I found my lump in my chest for my breast cancer. So I'm very thankful for that if it because it happened in that way that it needed to happen. But it made me remember until yesterday when I went back to the gym, it's like those damn push-ups, those are the ones that are getting me. Um, and so I keep on pulling that same muscle in my chest. And so that is an indication that my body's telling me, hey, we're overextending ourselves, we're exceeding ourselves. And I need to take that step back on, okay, what is my capacity? And I need to be honest with myself on what that capacity looks like. All right, let's talk about how energy attaches. Because energy doesn't just come out of nowhere, you absorb energy by, especially when you don't have boundaries, and that's where you are very passive, or you're letting your energy kind kind of like wander around, no limits, kind of free-for-all, and that's where um you can definitely get unwanted energy, energy such as like sadness, or someone's like negative energy, such as um envy, jealousy. Another way you can absorb energy is when you overgive, like you're overextending yourself, and that's where you're overdoing it. Similar to my pulled muscle, like you're overextending, and so you're going that 1000 one, you know, 1,000% kind of thing. You may also be a people pleaser. So the yes, and then kind of caving in, you don't want to upset people, and that's a way also too that you give your energy away. You may also sit in environments that don't feel safe, or like, oh, for some reason it's coming up for me. Maybe somebody listening, this resonates where you go to a party and it's like the cheese may, you know, the gossip is just going all over and all over and all over, and you pick up on things like that, where it's like, oh, the yuckiness of like, oh, we're gossiping and we're laughing and we're bullying people and we're shaming people. Nowadays, obviously that's like not as accepted, but I can always imagine back when I was little and growing up, and some of the people around in my life are still like this, where they just gossip and they just love to shame people. And that's and that's their way of talking about people and passing time, especially when you're at a party or family get togethers. The other way that you absorb energy is when you suppress your emotions. So feeling that anger that or that resentment or the envy or the jealousy, but you're not channel channeling it out somehow, that's where you could definitely have it eat up inside of you. So having a mechanism to channel out somehow, like anger, I love punching the pillow. Um, that is something that I that my life coach taught me that I always carry with me. But your body becomes a container for all these emotions and all these energies. And if you're not releasing, you're holding. And that does show up as anxiety, overwhelm, exhaustion, resentment, and feeling off, but not knowing why. So, mixita, that's not a weakness, that's unprocessed energy. So, what is a limpia? And what does it actually do? So, let's ground into this. Alimpia is not about fixing you because you're definitely not broken. Alimpia is about clearing emotional residue and it's releasing energetic attachments, it's reconnecting to your body, it's creating space for your own energy again. And the way you do a limpia, it could be with uh egg cleansing, a huevo, where you kind of pass that through your body, starting from the top to the bottom of your feet, um, and you kind of stroke through your whole body. You could do it with herbs. Um, my favorite are is sage and romero. Also, you could do smoke. Um, again, I love this sage smoke. Um, there's a lot of incense, too, that could be done with this. Water is very cleansing as well, where I mean jumping in the shower or your bathtub and kind of going and visualizing how all this negative energy is leaving your body and going down the drain. Prayer also is a very powerful tool where you are giving everything and surrendering to universe God, divine source on all the various things that are, you know, all these feelings, all these emotions, all these thoughts that are coming up for you. Also, intention is key because going through and being very intentional of what is your like what is the purpose of this activity that you're doing, or this cleanse, and what are you extrapolating, right? We go through a pruning process, and it is very healthy to do that. Um, pruning like your body with our with our thoughts and our mind, um, emotions as well, and then spiritually too. This is how we're kind of cleansing what's going on with ourselves, and it's all the same core message is I choose to come back to me. So I want to guide you through something. And if you can, if you're not operating any heavy machinery or if you have to be with your eyes open because you're attending to something, I'll invite you to close your eyes if you can. Take a deep breath in through your nose and release out through your mouth. And I want you to imagine everything you've been carrying, all the stress the expectations the emotions that aren't yours. I want you to picture them sitting on your shoulders. And now, with your breath, I want you to gently begin to release them. And do this at your own breath. Your own speed. You don't have to force it. Just let them fall. Say quietly to yourself This is not mine. I release what isn't mine. I come back to myself. And I invite you to pause this if you need longer. But when you're ready to come back, you can wiggle your toes, your hands, maybe do some shimmy shimmy with your shoulders, shake them. And open your eyes when you're ready. And then take a deep breath in. And exhale through your mouth. This is your work now is not to carry more, but to release more. So I invite you to integrate this practice of releasing what's not yours or what you've been carrying, and you finally identified, hey, I don't like this feeling, this is not mine, or I don't know where it's coming from, and discerning again what's yours and what's not yours, and going through the motions of cleansing, clearing, pruning, whatever that process looks like for you. And not to become stronger for everyone else, of course, but to become softer with yourself. So again, this is back to you. I want you to come back to yourself, be that true authentic self that you are shining so many light, so much light into the shadows, into what needs to be worked on. Healing isn't about doing more, it's about letting go. It's about letting go of shit that's not yours, and it wasn't even yours to begin with. Um, and being able to say no to the things that don't align with you. And I want you to become and be that true essence of yourself and whatever version that looks like today at this moment. Because we we do all have good days and we don't and we also have bad days. Um, who's to say, right? The reality of each one is your reality, your perspective. And being able to respect where you're at right now and give yourself that love and compassion that you so need, hold yourself and be that safe space. Um, I know for the past few weeks I've been struggling with um this challenging circumstances of chemo, and I'm approaching my last one, I have a lot of anxiousness, there's a lot of fear, but I know that those things surface, it's because I'm growing. I'm growing and I'm evolving, and of course, it's coming to me just to give me that bigger learning lessons, even more than I had before. But I'm being shaped and I'm and just know that you're being calibrated into this best version of yourself, that you are in divine timing and you have a plan. There is a plan for you, there's a purpose, and just having that trust and that faith to keep walking step by step because you don't know what the what the next step might hold. It might be a turning point completely for you or a pivotal moment. And as I always love to say, it's the domino effect, right? The sequence of things needed to happen sometimes in a certain order for it to make sense in your life. So I applaud you for being here, for showing up for yourself on a daily basis and going through anything that you go through, knowing that you are resourceful enough to figure it out on your own. And if you don't figure it out, you do have the resources around you and the people and support to lean on for that. You don't have to carry what was never yours. And if this episode spoke to you, I want you to sit with it, journal, reflect, breathe, and if you're ready to go deeper, this is exactly the work we do inside. My coaching sessions and my energy work, and especially in my school community, which is called the Aimijita Collective. And I'm definitely kicking it off. Um, in May, I'm gonna have a lot more things and I'm gonna revamp it and be in there very more frequently. And I would love you to join me. You can definitely click on the link below, but again, you don't have to do this alone. So remember, embrace your raises, reclaim your essencia. I'll see you soon. Love you, bye.
