She Ignites
This is where power gets raw, healing gets hot, and rebellion becomes ritual. Hosted by Kari Lowe, She Ignites is your weekly dose of fire-starter truth, bold stories, and permission to break every rule that kept you small.
Light the damn match.
It’s time to burn, not behave.
She Ignites
Guilty Pleasures, Real Fuel
What if your “guilty pleasures” aren’t guilty at all, but the exact fuel you need to feel brave, seen, and alive? We dive into the late-night tug of one more chapter and the irresistible pull of true crime podcasts, then reveal the deeper reasons these habits matter: language for hard feelings, proof of survival, and a renewed trust in your own intuition. Along the way, we share a micro ritual you can use anytime, turn the page, strike the match - to transform passive consumption into intentional nourishment.
Books become portals that let us practice being human, try on courage, and return to our lives carrying sharper questions and kinder words. True crime, often judged as morbid, takes on a different shape here: pattern recognition and agency. It reminds us that paying attention is power, that women’s stories deserve daylight, and that listening can teach us when to leave, when to speak, and how to stand tall. Instead of shaming curiosity, we honor it and we show you how to do the same with five focused journal prompts that turn obsession into insight and action.
You’ll leave with a practical way to bless your reading or listening time, a reframed view of “addictions” as breadcrumbs back to your fire, and a nudge to follow what genuinely lights you up. If you’re ready to trade guilt for fuel and treat your attention like the sacred spark it is, press play, breathe deep, and let the story feed you. If this resonates, subscribe, share with a friend who needs permission to indulge, and leave a spicy little review so more

Welcome to She Ignites, the podcast where we burn the rule book, ditch the shoulds, and light up the lives we were meant to lead. I'm your host, Carrie Lowe, candlemaker, confidence dealer, and your favorite fire starter. Around here, we speak boldly, dream wildly, and show up messy and magical. If you're done playing small and ready to own your own spark, you're in the right damn place. Now let's get lit. Welcome back, Firestarters. This is the show where we confess the messy, the weird, and the wildly human parts of ourselves and then find the fire inside them. And today, I'm making another confession. Last week we talked about my candlelit confessions ritual. Today I'm talking about something else. I am addicted. Not to caffeine. Well, maybe that too. Not to shopping. Well, maybe online sometimes. But today I'm talking about books and true crime podcasts. You're gonna see how my so-called addictions are actually lifelines to curiosity, to story, and to survival. And maybe you'll stop shaming yourself for your guilty pleasures and start seeing them as part of your fire. So, my confession: one more chapter, one more episode. I can't tell you how many nights I've stayed up far past my bedtime whispering, just one more chapter. Or when I'm driving down the road and I pull off in a parking lot, waiting to go home because I just need one more episode. My podcast cue is stacked and my to-be read pile of books is so high, I hate to measure. Don't even get me started on how my random murder facts are floating around in my head. For a long time I laughed it off. Like, girl, why can't you just chill? But here's the thing: these addictions, they're not necessarily distractions. They're windows. They are ways I connect with myself, with other women, and with truth. So, books to me are portals. They let me step into other lives, other timelines, other fires. They feed my imagination. They give me language for feelings I don't even know how to name yet. When I read, I feel less alone. And when I finish a book, I feel a little more equipped to face my own story. So I'm gonna talk about true crime right now. Some people think it's morbid, but here's why I love it. It shows women surviving in a world that often tries to silence them. It unearths hidden truths, the stuff people want buried. And it's a reminder that intuition matters, that paying attention matters. And honestly, listening gives me some sense of control. Like if I know the patterns, if I know the stories, I can protect myself and the women I love. At first glance, it looks like entertainment, but underneath, these addictions are about curiosity. I want to know the why behind everything. Connection. Stories always make me feel part of something bigger. Empowerment. Knowledge is power, even when it's wrapped up in thrillers and cold cases. And isn't that the point of She Ignites? To take the sparks wherever we find them and fan them into a flame. So I want to share a little micro ritual with you. Turn the page, strike the match. So light a candle, grab the book you're reading, or cue up your favorite podcast. Before you dive in, take a deep breath and say out loud, This is not wasting time. This is feeding me. Stories are survival. Curiosity is fire. Then sink into the guilt-free. Let it nourish you. So as you know, I'm all about journaling. So let me share some journal prompts with you to help you with your own addiction. Number one, what's the obsession I joke about or feel guilty for? And what does it actually give me? Ice copy? True crime podcasts? Any kind of book that you read? It doesn't matter. Write it down. Number two, what do my favorite books or podcasts say about what I'm hungry for? Dive deep. So, like I said previously, if you're listening to true crime, what is it about those episodes that fill your soul? Number three, how do stories, real or imagined, help me survive, heal, or grow? Sometimes when I am listening to my favorite true crime podcasts and hearing about how women have survived the unthinkable, I just stop with chills all over my body thinking about how amazing those women are and what can I learn from them. Number four, where can I give myself more permission to indulge in what lights me up? You know, life is too short to worry about what other people think. If you want to spend a few hours tonight reading a book, just fucking do it. Number five, how can I turn this obsession into fuel for my own fire? When you look deeper than the surface of the act that you're actually performing when you're reading or listening to a podcast, you can really learn a lot about yourself. What is it you're craving? What is it you love? What is it you desire? So here's the truth. What we call addictions are often the breadcrumbs leading us back to our fire. So yeah, I'll stay up too late reading. I'll keep binging true crime podcasts because these aren't guilty pleasures, they are survival rituals. They're confessions and they're flames that keep me lit. This is SheIgnites. I'm Carrie. And if you ever need a book recommendation or a podcast to binge, trust me, I've got you covered. Just message me. Well, that's it for today, babe. But your fire is just getting started. If you're feeling lit up, go ahead and hit subscribe, leave a spicy little review, and tag me at sheIgnites CandleCo. So I can hype you up. Remember, the world doesn't need a quieter version of you. It needs the bold, blazing, fully expressed view. Until next time, keep glowing, keep going, and never, ever dim your damn light.
