Fear Is Fuel

Fear gets a bad rap, but we’re calling it out for what it really is: information and energy. When my hands shake before I hit “post,” when my chest tightens before a bold ask, or when my voice trembles before a hard conversation, that doesn’t mean I’m weak. It usually means I’m close to something that matters. This is a mindset shift for anyone tired of waiting to feel ready, especially creators, entrepreneurs, and women who are done playing small.
I tell the story of posting a behind-the-scenes TikTok from my candle-making business, the spiral of “What if they laugh?” and the quieter truth underneath it: fear wasn’t telling me to stop, it was telling me I was onto something real. We break down how the nervous system can feel the same in terror and excitement, and how the story you attach to sweaty palms and a racing heart changes what you do next.
Then we get practical. I share simple tools to make fear your ally: name it in a way that gives you power, redirect the energy through movement, use fear as a compass when something scares and excites you, and take action before the fear leaves. You’ll also get reflection questions you can use this week to spot what fear is protecting and where it’s pointing you toward growth, confidence, and a more fully expressed life.
If this lights you up, hit subscribe, share the episode with a friend who needs a spark, and leave a review so more firestarters can find us. What’s one thing you’d do this week if you stopped waiting to feel fearless?

Welcome To She Ignites
SPEAKER_00Welcome to She Ignites, the podcast where we burn the rule book, ditch the shoulds, and light up the lives we were meant to lead. I'm your host, Carrie Lowe, candlemaker, confidence dealer, and your favorite fire starter. Around here, we speak boldly, dream wildly, and show up messy and magical. If you're done playing small and ready to own your own spark, you're in the right damn place. Now let's get lit.
Why Fear Is Not The Enemy
SPEAKER_00Welcome back, Firestarters. So today becomes the space where we stop running from fear and we start lighting it up for what it really is. Fuel. So this is all about why fear is not the enemy. Because let's be honest, the self-help world loves to chant, be fearless. We love to wear necklaces that say be fearless or bracelets or even graphic t-shirts. It's a cute slogan, but you know what? It's terrible advice. Fear isn't something you erase, it is something that you reframe. So I hope today that you will start seeing fear differently, not as a roadblock, but as proof that you're standing at the edge of something worth doing.
The TikTok Post That Shook Me
SPEAKER_00So I want to talk about the time that fear almost stopped me. Number one, I have a lot of these moments. So this is all about my business. I'll never forget the time that I hit post on a TikTok video that I was not so sure about. People had been asking me for a behind the scenes look at me making candles. So I did it. My hands were shaking, my chest was a little tight, and my brain screamed, what if they laugh? What if no one cares? What if you look freaking stupid? But underneath the panic, there was something else, a whisper that said to me, This matters. That's when it hit me. Fear wasn't telling me to stop. Fear was telling me I was onto something real. So fear is not the enemy. Fear is energy. It's your body saying, This matters. Pay attention. The same physiological response shows up whether you're terrified or thrilled. Sweaty palms, racing heart, shallow breath. The only difference, it's the story that you attach to it. So fear asks you, what if I fail? Courage answers, but what if I fly? The problem with fearless, what is it? Chasing fearless sets us up to fail. Because the second that fear shows up, we think we're broken. We think I must not be ready for this. But fear doesn't mean you're weak. It means you're alive. It means you care. It means you are stepping out of autopilot into fear. It means that you are on the edge of doing something that matters, either to you or to those around you.
Turn Fear Into Forward Motion
SPEAKER_00So how do we make fear our ally? Name it, of course. I'm all about naming things. Instead of saying I'm scared, try saying my body is signaling to me that this matters. Redirect the energy. Channel that energy into action because movement burns fear into fuel. Shake, breathe, pace, punch a pillow if you need to. Take a walk, whatever it is that you need to do to channel that energy. But use it as a compass. If it scares you and excites you, that's usually the thing that you need to do. And the next step is act while you're scared. Fear doesn't vanish before action, it shrinks after action. The only way out is through. And you know what? Even if what you are trying ends up not to be exactly what you had planned or what you wanted. Example, my TikTok video of the behind the scenes, it's okay. Because why? You are showing up real, even if it's for yourself.
The One Thing You Avoid
SPEAKER_00So I want you to think of something that scares you right now. The thing that you've been avoiding. It might be starting a business. It might be having a conversation with your boss. It might be asking for a raise. It might even be having a conversation with your spouse, a parent, a child, a sibling. It might be walking into a class that you've been wanting to try all by yourself without knowing a soul in the room. Whatever that is, think about it. Feel the fear in your body, the tension, the tightness, the buzz. Now imagine taking that energy and funneling it into a flame that's in front of you. That flame is going to grow brighter, hotter, and wild just because you're fueling it. So now I want you to say out loud, fear is not my enemy. Fear is my fuel. If it scares me, it means it matters. Girl, that fire is in your chest, and it is yours to use. So I want you to ask yourself these questions. What fear has been showing up for me lately? And what is it protecting? Where in my life is fear actually pointing me towards growth? What's one thing I'd do this week if I stopped waiting to feel fearless? How does fear show up in my body? And how can I reframe those signals as energy instead of danger? What would change if I saw fear as my ally instead of my enemy?
Fire Full Over Fearless
SPEAKER_00So here's the truth. The goal isn't to be fearless, the goal is to be fire full. So this week I want you to stop waiting for fear to leave before you act. Strike the match while your hands are shaking. Post the video with your heart racing. Have the conversation with your voice trembling. Because fear, it isn't the stop sign. Fear is the spark. And remember, the women who set the world on fire were never fearless. They were brave enough to burn anyway. Until next time, stay lit, fire starters.
