Good girl rules don’t just live in childhood memories, they show up in your calendar, your inbox, your relationships, and the way you say “sorry” when you did nothing wrong. We’re naming the pattern out loud: the pressure to be polite, easy, and grateful, even when it makes you small. If you’ve been craving more confidence, stronger boundaries, and a life that feels like yours, this conversation is your permission slip to stop performing and start telling the truth.

We dig into the gold star trap, how praise and approval can quietly train you to chase validation, avoid conflict, and swallow your real opinions. Then we lay out a practical good girl detox: spotting the scripts you repeat automatically, trying small rebellions that build self-trust, and learning to say no without cushioning it. We also talk about reclaiming anger as information, not something to hide, and why taking up space is a skill you can practice one brave choice at a time.

You’ll get a simple “no” micro ritual you can use immediately, plus candlelit confession journal prompts that cut through the noise: Where am I still performing? What rules about being nice still control me? Who benefits when I stay quiet, and what does it cost me? If you’re ready to be fully expressed at work, at home, and in your own skin, press play.

Welcome To She Ignites

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to She Ignites, the podcast where we burn the rule book, ditch the shoulds, and light up the lives we were meant to lead. I'm your host, Carrie Lowe, candlemaker, confidence dealer, and your favorite fire starter. Around here, we speak boldly, dream wildly, and show up messy and magical. If you're done playing small and ready to own your own spark, you're in the right damn place. Now let's get lit.

SPEAKER_01

Live in her truth in every way.

SPEAKER_00

Wow, today is gonna be a big one. Firestarters, are you ready for this? I want to welcome you back to She Ignites, the place where we stop being nice girls and start being women who blaze.

What The Good Girl Detox Means

SPEAKER_00

Today we're talking about the good girl detox. Because let's be real, most of us grew up with the same instructions. Smile, behave, be polite, don't be difficult, don't be loud, don't make waves. You should be seen and not heard. Translation: bitch, be small, be safe, be good, be quiet, don't make anyone uncomfortable. But good girls, you know what they don't start? Revolutions. Good girls don't light fires. And good girls don't change the world. By the end of this episode, I hope that you will know how to spot where the good girl programming is still running your life and how to detox it out of your system so you can live wild, loud, and unapologetically free.

The Gold Star Trap Explained

SPEAKER_00

So let's talk about the gold star trap. You remember when we were little and we were growing up, I bet all of us were addicted to those gold stars. We loved praise. I loved being the one teachers called such a good student, even when it rarely happened. At home, I wanted to be the easy kid. That also probably didn't happen. But here's what I didn't realize. Every gold star came with invisible fine print. Stay small to keep the approval coming. And one day, I woke up realizing those stars weren't even shiny anymore. They were shackles. So what is good girl programming? It sounds something like this. Don't rock the boat, be nice, don't be difficult, don't be selfish. And it shows up like this. Apologizing for things that aren't even your fault, saying yes when you really mean no, swallowing anger so you don't seem oh so dramatic. Pretending to be smaller, softer, and sweeter than you actually are. So why is it so hard for us to break this? Because being a good girl, it works. It keeps people liking us, it keeps conflict low, it keeps the peace. But you know what it costs us? Our power, our authenticity, and our fucking voice. So let's talk about the good girl detox and how to do

Spot The Scripts And Start Rebellion

SPEAKER_00

it. Number one, we have to spot the scripts. So notice when you hear yourself saying, I don't want to bother anyone, or I just wanted to check. That's the good girl talking. And one of my favorites is when you step in front of someone or you walk into a room and you say, Oh, I'm so sorry, but you apologize for things that you shouldn't be apologizing for. We don't have to say I'm sorry in every sentence we speak. Step number two, start small with the rebellion. Say no without cushioning it. Let an email sit unanswered. Order what you want at dinner without asking, what are you having? The next thing is to reclaim our anger. You know, anger isn't ugly. It's information. Let yourself feel it without apologizing for it, because we have a lot to be angry for as women. Step four, I want you to practice taking up space. Speak first in a meeting, post the opinion that scares you, wear the outfit that makes you feel bold. And I even encourage you to step up and say something when there is someone in the room that is making you uncomfortable. So we're going to talk about the no practice here in a little micro ritual that I love to share.

The No Practice Micro Ritual

SPEAKER_00

So again, as always, if you are driving, don't do this. But otherwise, close your eyes. Picture someone asking you for something that you don't want to give. Your time, your energy, your yes. Now imagine yourself saying no. Not, I'm sorry I can't. Not maybe another time. Just no. Say it again louder. Feel how powerful it is. That's detox in action. It feels good.

Candlelit Confessions Journal Prompts

SPEAKER_00

So we're gonna talk about some candlelit confessions here, otherwise known as journal prompts. So here they are, and I want you to really think about these and reflect when you're writing. Where am I still performing good girl instead of living as myself? What rules about being nice or easy still control me? Is it in your personal life? Or is it work? What would my life look like if I stopped apologizing for existing? You know, like I said earlier. When you apologize just for walking in the room if someone looks your way? What small rebellions can I start practicing this week? And the big one. Who benefits from me being a good girl? But at what cost? What do I lose? Here's the truth. Good girls, they get gold stars, but wild women, we light the sky. And look how much more powerful that is. So this week I want you to practice detoxing the good girl out of your system one step at a time. Say no. Take up space. Let someone call you difficult because damn right you should be. Because your fire, it was never meant to be pretty and polite. It was meant to burn. And let me tell you, the good girl, she's gone. The blaze is here to stay. See you next time on She Ignites.

Wild Woman Wrap Up And CTA

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's it for today, babe. But your fire is just getting started. If you're feeling lit up, go ahead and hit subscribe, leave a spicy little review, and tag me at SheIgnites Candle Co. So I can hype you up. Remember, the world doesn't need a quieter version of you. It needs the bold, blazing, fully expressed you. Until next time, keep glowing, keep going, and never, ever dim your damn light.
