Why This Episode Matters
If you live in Laguna Beach or anywhere in Orange County, you have probably heard people talking about functional mushrooms for focus, energy, and stress relief. You might also feel confused about what they actually do, which ones to choose, and how to use them safely in everyday life.
In this episode of The Tea on Wellness, we look at some of the most talked about functional mushrooms, including Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Chaga, Cordyceps, and Turkey Tail. We explore how they can support mental clarity, nervous system regulation, restful sleep, and long term resilience.
As the only loose leaf tea and spice shop in Orange County with its own wellness podcast, Tea and Turmeric brings you a mix of science, tradition, and local stories from right here in Laguna Beach. You will hear how real people are using mushroom teas and blends as part of their daily wellness routines.
How Functional Mushrooms Support Everyday Wellness
Functional mushrooms are not magic bullets. They work by supporting your body over time. Many of them help with stress response, inflammation, circulation, and brain health, which is why people notice clearer focus, steadier energy, and better sleep when they use them consistently.
In this episode, I share how I personally leaned on our Happy Place Mushroom Tea during a time of fatigue and emotional overload, and what shifted when I started using it in a daily ritual instead of just once in a while. We also talk about safety, dosage, and what to look for in a high quality mushroom product so you are not wasting your time or money.
What You Will Learn
- the unique benefits of Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Chaga, Cordyceps, and Turkey Tail for energy, focus, and rest

Welcome to The Tea on Wellness – Episode 3: Functional Mushrooms for Mood, Energy & Sleep
Hello and welcome back to The Tea on Wellness. I’m Vidya, and today we’re talking about something deeply personal to me and many of you.
Feeling Off Lately?
Have you been feeling off lately? Maybe your energy is all over the place, you’re extra moody, your sleep is poor, and even when you do rest, you wake up exhausted.
Perhaps you’ve tried cutting back on caffeine, changing your diet, adding supplements, meditating, doing yoga, but nothing sticks. Or maybe you feel overwhelmed by all the wellness noise, unsure what’s really worth trying.
If this sounds like you, I get it. I’ve been there too.
My Personal Turning Point
A few months ago, I felt that heaviness creeping back, a low, slow fog that can spiral into depression if you don’t act. This time, I chose to catch it early, before the crash.
This moment sparked the creation of our mushroom and herbal blends, not a trend or a TikTok moment, but a real, personal need. Yours and mine.
Conversations at the Shop
Every day at the shop, I’d hear questions like, “Do you have something for mood?” “What helps with energy without caffeine?” “What do you recommend for sleep that actually works?” “Do you carry lion’s mane?” “Is reishi good for anxiety?” “I heard about cordyceps on TikTok, what’s that?”
At first, I gave advice on existing products, but it didn’t feel right. Something was missing.
My sister Kavita and I had a classic “aha” moment, we looked at each other and said, why not introduce our own blends?
Introducing Functional Mushrooms
Functional mushrooms are different from the button mushrooms you cook with. We’re talking about reishi, lion’s mane, chaga, cordyceps, turkey tail, each with medicinal properties.
Lion’s mane supports brain focus and clarity.
Reishi calms the nervous system and improves sleep.
Cordyceps boosts clean energy without jitters.
Chaga acts as an antioxidant shield against stress.
Turkey tail supports immune defense.
These mushrooms act as adaptogens, helping your body maintain balance amid stress. But they work best with consistent use over time.
Why Blend Mushrooms with Herbs?
Traditional medicine pairs mushrooms with herbs for synergy, which many mushroom products miss.
Our blends combine functional mushrooms with adaptogenic herbs targeting mood, sleep, or energy, creating intentional and grounded formulas.
The Three Blends
1. Happy Place Mushroom Tea – for mood and emotional resilience, with lion’s mane, reishi, kava kava, and stress-supporting herbs. I used this during a tough time, and it helped me reconnect with myself.
2. Restorative Sleep Mushroom Tea – a deep, gentle formula with lion’s mane, reishi, valerian, and more, supporting deeper restful sleep without knocking you out. Perfect for those waking tired after 8 hours.
3. Fountain of Health Mushroom Tea – your daily resilience blend, a combo of five mushrooms supporting immune health, energy, brain function, and balance. Just half a teaspoon a day builds your wellness foundation.
My Wellness Journey
I’ve had two major depression episodes in life. Recently, sensing the darkness return, I made lifestyle changes, cleaned up my eating, walked daily with my dog, prioritized mental health, and used the Happy Place blend daily for six weeks.
It wasn’t magic, but it helped me feel steady and present again. Now, I use it occasionally as needed, not dependent, but supportive.
What These Blends Can and Can’t Do
These blends aren’t pharmaceuticals or replacements for medical treatment. They provide gentle, steady support for your body’s natural rhythms.
Consistent use of three to four weeks brings subtle changes, persistence is key. They aren’t quick fixes, but support your body’s healing process gradually.
Safety & Dosage Tips
Generally safe, but be mindful:
Reishi may thin blood slightly.
Cordyceps might affect blood sugar.
If you’re on blood thinners or diabetes meds, consult your doctor first. Start small, with a quarter teaspoon, and increase gradually.
Each blend costs $17 per ounce, about 50 cents a day at half a teaspoon. They use pure fruiting bodies, no mycelium, fillers, or fluff.
How to Use
Easy to use, stir into tea, matcha, smoothies, or coffee. Mushrooms have an earthy, slightly bitter taste, softened by herbs.
I love mixing the Happy Blend into morning matcha with Sacred Golden Milk and coconut milk; it was my shield against depression.
Final Thoughts
Taking them consistently matters. After a few weeks, your body notices. By week six, you build resilience.
Use Happy or Mushroom Multi in the morning, Sleep Blend 30 minutes before bed.
