Why AI is making your dental practice invisible and how to fix it. Did you know that AI search tools might actively be blocking patients from finding your dental practice, even if they were referred to you? Most dentists and specialists have no idea that their current online setup is backfiring. In today's episode, we'll reveal the exact mistakes making your practice invisible to AI algorithms. Right now, Google and AI search engines may be quietly hiding your dental practice from local patients. If you're a dentist or specialist relying on old, outdated marketing for online visibility, you are likely making one massive mistake that makes you invisible to AI. Here is how to fix your digital footprint before your competitors do. In today's episode, we're going to be going over one, Google Business Profile and Maps, the AI's source of truth. Two, we'll discuss your website, the AI's context machine. And three, we'll go over the danger of inconsistencies, breaking the AI's trust. And we'll conclude with a three-step leadership action plan that you can implement today. Let's begin. To make this easy to understand, think of AI search engines like Google, ChatGPT, and Apple Intelligence, not as software programs, but as digital matchmakers. An AI matchmaker's biggest fear is looking stupid. If it recommends a dental practice that turns out to have the wrong phone number, a closed office, or a service they don't actually offer, the user loses trust in the AI. To protect itself, the AI will only recommend businesses it is 100% certain about. It builds this certainty through a system called a knowledge graph. Here's how that structure works across your website, maps, and profiles, and how inconsistencies destroy your visibility. For local dental practices, your Google Business Profile and your Google Maps are the foundation of your AI structure. AI treats these as your primary identity cards. How AI reads it? Well, AI doesn't look at just your name. It looks at what they call your primary category and your attributes. If you're an endodontist, for example, but your primary category online is set to a vague quote unquote dentist, the AI gets confused. And when a patient asks for a root canal specialist near me, they're not going to find your website as a result. There's a trap with AI because Google allows users and competitors to suggest quote unquote edits to your hours or address. If Google's AI matches those suggestions with an old scrap of data on the internet, it might change your profile automatically. A fix, you must audit your core categories online. If you are a specialist, ensure your primary category on your Google business profile reflects your specialty. For example, Orthodonists, Peridonis, Oral Surgeon, and Adonis, not just dental clinic. Point number two, your website, the AI's context machine. Your website is where AI goes to learn how you talk about your services and who works there. How AI reads it? Well, AI reads websites using what they call somatic search. It looks at the relationship between words. It wants to see deep educational content. If your page on quote dental implants is just a 200-word paragraph saying you offer them, well, the AI assumes you lack authority. If you have a detailed page explaining the difference between single implants, bridges, and all on four, well, the AI views you then as an expert. The AI trap, the hidden technical code that AI bots look for is called a schema markup, specifically medical business schema for our industry. This is just an invisible code on the back end of your website that explicitly tells AI, quote, this is our phone number, this is our doctor's NPI number, and these are the exact zip codes that we serve. Without this, the AI has to guess your details. Point number three, the danger of inconsistencies. Breaking the AI's trust. This is where 90% of your dental practices become invisible. AI cross-references your website, your business profile, Apple Maps, Yelp, Health Grades, and local chamber directories. It's looking for perfect match. If it finds mismatches, it experiences an algorithmic doubt. When AI doubts your data, it hides your practice. Let me tell you a story. Recently this week, I was pulling a list through my software, thankfully, because it was cutting through the data. But when I was going online to find local oral surgeons, paradonists, endodonists, for example, in my area to mail out these cute little postcards for my podcast, I was blown away and reminded about how many inconsistencies are online. Have you Googled yourself lately? Have you Googled your practice lately? I encourage you to do so. Most practices I have found, one, they may not have even set up their Google business profile. Two, they have, if they have multiple locations, they have inconsistencies in the way their Google Business Profile shows up. Three, providers that are stated on their website is not on their Google Business profile. This may be on health grades, it might be on Yelp, but there are so many inconsistencies out there. Thankfully, through my software, I was able to pull together the right data. But it's for me as a human going through, and I'm in the industry and I know what to look for. And I was still having a challenge being able to find credible practice information online. What is the AI going to do? The AI needs to see 100% confidence in the data being presented, or it's just not going to present you in the search results. This is really a dangerous time for dental practices, especially dental specialty practices, to make sure that you're being seen online when more and more at a very rapid pace. People are using things such as Google Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude AI, Siri to find their search results. No longer are they going just to Google search and scrolling through the manual. When they start to realize how easy AI is, they're going to be using that more and more. And therefore, you are at a time where you need to be more aware than ever. So let's talk about this. So for example, if your business name is Elite Dental Care, but there's another profile online that says Elite Dental Care PC. What the AI is going to think is those are two totally different corporations. Let's talk about doctors. Name Dr. Sarah Jenkins, for example, online. But then in another profile it says Sarah Jenkins DDS. Well, AI is going to think, is Sarah a doctor? Is she the owner? I don't know. So if it doesn't know, it's not going to suggest in the search results. You're getting the point, an address. If even down to, let's say, example, 100 Main Street, suite four. But then in another profile, it just says 100 Main Street. Well, is Suite 4 a separate clinic? Well, AI might say, well, I'm not going to present this as a result because I'm not sure. These inconsistencies are breaking the AI's trust and therefore causing your practice to be invisible andor your practice providers. When these contradictions exist, the AI's confidence score drops. Instead of risking a bad recommendation, the AI simply is going to display your competitor down the street whose data is perfectly clean. So what do we do with all this? I'm going to leave you with a three-step leadership action plan that you can apply today. As a practice leader, you don't need to know how to code. You just need to manage the assets. Here are the three things to task your team or your agency with. Number one, enforce the NAP rule, NAP representing name, address, phone. Pick one exact format from your practice name, address, and phone number. Ensure it is identical on your website footer, your Google, your Apple Maps, and HealthGrades, down to the punctuation. Number two, request a schema audit. Ask your website provider, do we have local business or medical business schema installed on our site? And does it match perfectly with our Google business profile? And number three, claim your doctors as entities. Ensure individual specialists have clean profiles that link directly back to the main practices website. So the AI connects the doctor's personal reputation to the business location. If you'd like some help on getting your practices and providers' online assets visible in this AI era, reach out to me by booking a call. I'd be happy to help. Many of my dentists have shared they just don't know what to do when it comes to AI. They just know it's important. Well, in today's summer slowdown series, I hope today's action plans give you peace of mind knowing that it doesn't have to be scary, but there are certain things that need to be implemented to make sure that your practice is staying visible online.
