it’s the doorway to healing.
Welcome to Letting Go Living Free, the podcast where faith meets healing and broken hearts find hope. I'm Catherine Brown, and today we're talking about something powerful, uncomfortable, and absolutely necessary for healing. Freedom requires honesty, not perfection, not pretending, not performance, but honesty. Because many people are praying for freedom while hiding the very thing God is trying to heal. And the truth is what we refuse to confront will continue to control us. So today we're going to talk about emotional honesty, spiritual honesty, and the courage it takes to finally tell the truth to God, to yourself and sometimes to others. So open your heart, pull up your chairs, grab your journal, and let's walk forward in freedom together. One of the biggest struggles in the body of Christ is this. Many people know how to survive publicly while suffering privately. Matter of fact, we do that quite well. We know how to shout in church, we know how to post encouraging scriptures online, we know how to smile when people ask, How are you? But inwardly we're angry, we're exhausted, we're bitter, we're disappointed, we're grieving, we're confused, we're jealous, we're resentful, we're hurt, and sometimes even spiritually numb. And because we think honesty makes us look weak, we hide. But hidden wounds do not heal. The enemy thrives in secrecy. God heals in truth. The Bible says in John 8 and 32, then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. And I do believe in certain translations it says will make you free. Notice something important. Jesus does not say feelings would set you free. He doesn't say that pretending would set you free. He did not say avoidance would set you free. He said truth because freedom begins where honesty starts. One of the most freeing revelations you can ever have is this: God already knows. He knows what hurt you, who betrayed you, what disappointed you, what temptation you're fighting, what you secretly fear, and what you haven't admitted out loud yet. And yet he still loves us. Some people are exhausted because they're trying to hide from God who already sees everything. Look at David. David was a worshiper, a king, a warrior, but David also failed. And after his sin with Bathsheba, conviction overwhelmed him. What changed David was not pretending, it was honesty. And we read that in Psalm 51, one of the rawest prayers in scripture. David says in Psalms 51 and 10, create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. That prayer comes from honesty, not image management, not reputation protection, honesty. And some of us need to stop protecting the image and start protecting our soul. Now the world teaches us this. Don't let people see you cry. Stay strong. Keep it together. But biblical strength is not pretending you're okay. Biblical strength is having enough courage to say, I need God. I'm struggling. I'm hurting. I'm disappointed. I'm angry. I'm tired. I'm overwhelmed. Even Jesus expressed honest emotion. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus was deeply troubled. He prayed honestly before the Father. He did not fake strength. He surrendered truthfully. And some listeners today are carrying emotional weight because you've been strong for everybody else while silently breaking inside. But let's be clear. Healing starts when honesty enters the room. Now I want to share with you just a few practical tools for walking in honesty. So let's make this practical. Because freedom is not just emotional inspiration. Freedom is daily work with God. So tool number one is stop using I'm fine as a hiding place. Sometimes I'm fine is a defense mechanism. This week, challenge yourself to be honest with God instead of Lord, bless my day. Say, Lord, I'm hurt. God can handle your honesty. Tool number two, if you are a journaler, journal what you've been avoiding. Write down what hurt you, what triggered you, what you fear, what you resent, and what you truly need healing from. Not for social media, not for appearances, just honesty, pure honesty before God. Because sometimes clarity comes when hidden emotions finally reach paper. Tool number three, identify what you keep numbing. Some people numb with food, shopping, relationships, overworking, scrolling, isolation, dizziness, or constant noise. So ask yourself, what pain am I trying not to feel? The question alone can unlock healing. And tool number four, find safe people. Trust me, not everybody deserves access to your vulnerabilities. But healing often requires wise community. So ask God for spiritually mature people, safe counsel, honest accountability, and people who can handle your truth without weaponizing it. One of the most powerful examples of honesty in Scripture is the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus meets her in John chapter 4. And what does he do? He lovingly confronts her. Not to shame her, but to free her. The amazing thing is the moment she stopped hiding, transformation began. And many people missed this. Her honesty became the doorway to her purpose. The woman who was hiding eventually became a witness because freedom changes your voice. Don't you hear the change in my voice? Some of you listening today are one honest conversation away from a breakthrough, one honest prayer away from healing, one honest surrender away from peace. So right now I want you to pause and think about this question. What truth have I been avoiding? Not what everyone else did, not who hurt you, but what truth have you been avoiding? Maybe the truth is you're exhausted, you're grieving, you're lonely, you're angry with God, you're afraid to start over. You're still hurt from childhood. You're pretending to be healed, or you've been carrying shame for years. Now hear me clearly. Honesty is not condemnation. Honesty on this platform is invitation. God is not exposing you to destroy you, He is revealing things so He can heal you. The enemy tells people, if you tell the truth, people will reject you. But God says, if you tell the truth, I can restore you. Freedom is not the absence of scars. Freedom is when scars no longer control your identity. Freedom is when you stop performing and start healing. Freedom is when you no longer need to pretend to be okay. Freedom is when you say, yes, I went through that, but God brought me through. And listeners, you don't have to stay trapped in emotional silence. There is life after honesty. There is peace after honesty. And there is healing after honesty. Now, before I end this podcast, I would love the opportunity to pray for you. So let's pray. Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray for every listener under the sound of my voice right now. Lord, you know every hidden hurt, every silent tear, every disappointment, every buried wound, every fear, every trauma, every place where people have learned to survive instead of healing. Today, we ask for courage to be honest. Tear down every wall of pretending. Break every spirit of shame and fear. Heal the places we've hidden from people and even hidden from ourselves. Father, teach us that honesty does not make us weak. It makes room for your strength. Lord God, bring freedom to the weary. Bring peace to the anxious. Bring healing to the brokenhearted. Bring clarity to confused minds, and bring restoration to wounded souls. Lord, let this be the season where masks fall off and healing begins. Your word says, whom the Son sets free is free indeed. So today we declare freedom over our minds, our emotions, our hearts, our homes, and our lives. In Jesus' mighty name I pray. Amen. Thank you for joining me on the Letting Go Living Free Podcast.
