Podcast Description
You Don't Need Closure
What if the healing you've been waiting for isn't on the other side of an apology?
In this powerful episode of Letting Go, Living Free, Kathryn Brown challenges one of the biggest myths about emotional healing, that you need closure from the person who hurt you. Through biblical truth, practical wisdom, and honest reflection, you'll discover that peace doesn't come from one more conversation, explanation, or apology. It comes from surrendering your unanswered questions to God.
If you've been holding on to an unfinished chapter, this episode will encourage you to stop waiting on people and start walking in the freedom Christ has already made available to you.
Scripture Focus: Luke 23:34, Ephesians 4:31–32, Proverbs 3:5–6
Healing doesn't begin when they finally understand your pain. Healing begins when you trust God enough to release it.
Hello friends and welcome back to the Letting Go Living Free Podcast. This is where faith meets healing and broken hearts find hope. I'm your host, Catherine Brown, and I'm so thankful you've joined me today. Today's episode may challenge the way you've been thinking about healing. It's called You Don't Need Closure. For many of us, we've convinced ourselves that we can't move forward until we get one more conversation, one more apology, one more explanation, or one more chance to say everything we wish we'd said. But what if closure isn't something another person gives you? What if it's something God grows inside of you? Today we're going to pull the bandage off that lingering wound, confront the lies that keeps us emotionally stuck, and discover how God can bring peace even when the story never gets an ending that makes sense. Now pull up a chair and let's get started. Let's begin with the hard truth. Some people are never going to apologize. Some relationships are never going to be repaired. Some questions will never be answered. Some people will leave your life without explanation. And some chapters will end with a period, not a conversation. You see, the longer we wait for closure from another person, the longer we give them permission to control our healing. Think about that. If your peace depends on someone else's actions, then your healing is no longer in your hands. And that's a painful, painful place to live? We've been taught that closure comes when someone finally explains themselves, when they tell you why, when they admit they were wrong, when they acknowledge what they did, then we'll be okay. But what if they never do? Does that mean you stay broken for another five years, ten years, the rest of your life? Absolutely not. One of the greatest misconceptions is that everyone gets resolution. Jesus didn't. Think about Judas. He betrayed Jesus with a kiss. There was no restored friendship, no heartfelt apology, no conversation where Judas said, I'm sorry, Lord. Jesus still fulfilled his purpose. Think about those who mocked him at the cross. They never apologized. Yet Jesus prayed in Luke 23 and 34, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. Now notice something. Jesus offered forgiveness before anyone asked for it. Forgiveness wasn't dependent upon their repentance, it flowed from his obedience to the Father. The Bible repeatedly calls for us to forgive. Ephesians 4, 31 and 32 says, let all bitterness and wrath and anger be put away from you, and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you. God never says wait until they explain. He says release it. Why? Because bitterness becomes a prison. And the person locked inside is usually us. Now can I ask you something? Who are you still waiting on? Whose phone call would instantly change your mood? Whose approval are you still chasing? Whose apology have you made your emotional finish line? Now here's the harder question. What if God has already given you everything you need to move forward? What if your healing isn't waiting on them? What if it's waiting on your decision? Sometimes the wound stays open because we keep peeling back the scab. We replay the conversation, we reread the text messages, we stalk their social media, we rehearse what we wish we would have said. We're asking yesterday to become today. But yesterday has already left. Now I want to share with you four practical tools to stop waiting for closure and begin walking in freedom. Number one, accept that some questions will remain unanswered. Faith doesn't require knowing everything. Faith requires trusting God with what we don't know. Proverbs 3 and 5 says, Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not into thine own understanding. Number two, stop making another person's repentance the requirement for your peace. Your freedom belongs to you. Don't hand it to someone who may never value it. Number three, give yourself permission to grieve what never happened. Sometimes we're not grieving the person, we're grieving the future we imagined with them. There's a difference. Mourn it and then release it. And then number four, let God write the final chapter. Your story isn't over because someone walked away. God specializes in writing beautiful endings after painful beginnings. So today, we learned that closure isn't something another person owes you. It's something God offers you. Closure doesn't always arrive wrapped in an apology. Sometimes it arrives wrapped in peace. Healing begins the moment you stop demanding answers that God never intended for you to receive. Your future deserves more attention than your unfinished past. Stop waiting for someone else to release you. Jesus already has. So walk in it. Now, before I end this podcast, I would love the opportunity to pray for you. So let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for being the God who heals what people cannot fix. Today I lift up every listener carrying an unanswered question, an unresolved hurt, or a wound that still aches because they never received the apology or explanation they hoped for. Lord, help them release the need for closure from people and receive the peace that only you can give. Heal every place where disappointment has become bitterness and where silence has become sorrow. Replace every lingering wound with your comfort, every unanswered question with unwavering trust, and every burden with your perfect peace. Give them the courage to forgive, the strength to let go, and the faith to believe that you are still writing their story. May they no longer look behind them for what can only be found by walking forward with you. In Jesus' name I pray. Now thank you for joining me today on another episode of the Letting Go Living Free podcast, where faith meets healing and broken hearts find hope. Remember this: you don't need another conversation to begin healing. You don't need another apology to experience peace, and you don't need closure from people when God has already invited you into freedom. If today's episode challenged or encouraged you, would you do me a favor? Share it with three friends. You never know who is waiting for an apology they'll never receive or carrying a wound that they don't have to carry anymore. So until next time, keep trusting God, keep choosing freedom, and keep letting go so you can truly walk free. God bless you, and I'll see you on the next episode.
