Welcome to the Knight Fit Podcast. I'm your host, Emily Knight. I'm a running and strength coach whose primary mission is to help runners reach their goals and maintain their strength without sacrificing their true health. On this podcast, we talk about all things health and fitness so that you can stay up to date on some of today's latest research. I host inspiring guests, drop solo episodes where I explore pertinent topics and get to the heart of many of our questions around what it means to chase our fitness goals and prioritize our wellness. So sit back and get ready for an awesome conversation. Hello everybody and welcome back to the Night Fit Podcast. Hope you're having a great day so far. I am recording this on Friday. I've got Lainey and the baby Bjorn, which, if you're not familiar, it is a carrier, and she's on my chest and she's facing outward. She's actually looking at the camera right now because you can see yourself, which is a nice distraction. Welcome back to the Gratitude series. I hope you're having a great weekend so far. In this series, we chat about some universal things, or what I think or believe, or what others tell me they believe are universally amazing, awesome, incredible things, things to be grateful for. That is the idea of this series, is that on the weekends and with all the things we have going on in our individual lives, good, bad, tough, we can reflect on the good. Because when we when we reflect on the good, we are incapable of feeling anxious, angry, those emotions. So that is the intent of this series. If you've missed the other three or four episodes so far, honestly I'm losing count, that is mom brain. Please go give them a listen. They're all so fun and they're just a great way to feel better. So if you enjoy this one today, make sure you go listen to the other ones. If you wouldn't mind dropping a rating, review, and giving us a follow, we greatly appreciate it. And if you guys hear any adorable angelic squirms, squeaks, or any noises like that, that is because the little angel on my chest right now is making noises. So just wanted to kick it off that way before we dive into today's list. So, and with that, happy Saturday. And this drop Saturday morning, nice, bright, and early. So you guys can enjoy this while you run, while you work out, while you go to the store, while you run errands, whatever it is you're getting up to this morning. So welcome to the series. Okay. The first one on the gratitude list for today is food trucks. There is a food truck festival happening in our little town tomorrow. And I saw the sign for it and I was like, you know what? I just love a food truck, whether it's at the state fair, whether it's downtown somewhere, whether it's in your local neighborhood. A food truck slaps. And my personal favorite things from food trucks are are like mini donuts, corndogs, especially at the Minnesota State Fair, which happens in August of every year. I guess we're not that far away from that already, which is crazy. Um, I love a food truck. I think they're great. And I love all the fun things that food trucks offer and that it's literally delicious food in a truck. So yeah, food trucks. Second thing is perfect bars. It's a brand. If you guys haven't tried a perfect bar before, this is your sign to do so. You keep them in the fridge. It's a combination of healthy fats, carbs, and protein. They're delicious. They're honestly my favorite protein bar for a multitude of reasons because they support my hormone health. They're a little bit higher calorie, but they're also just delicious. And if you have yet to try them, I talk about them so much on my page on Instagram. If you have yet to try them, please go do that. I'm not sponsored by them. Trust me, I beg them to be sponsored by them all the time. My favorite flavor is the peanut butter chocolate chip. Um, personally, but yeah, go give those a try, you guys. I'm obsessed with them. I eat them every day. We have a whole drawer dedicated to them. They're also at a great price at Costco. Yeah. So go to Costco, get your perfect bars there. They are a bit more expensive at the regular grocery store. The next one is paying for the person behind you, especially if you're at like a Starbucks or somewhere where the prices are a little bit overrated. Um, it's such a nice kind act. And I actually, it has not happened to me anytime recently. And I, it's on my list of things to do this coming week. I want to pay for someone behind me. Um, and it doesn't even have to be at like a Starbucks, but even if you're maybe you're at the grocery store and you see someone behind you only bought a couple things or really anything like that, um just do something nice for someone behind you. And it doesn't even have to be purchasing, it could just be holding the door or things like that. But I think the idea is just doing something nice for someone who's coming up behind you, someone who could have a better day because of something you did. So yeah, I think that's an act that I mean we all should do more regularly, right? The next one is the perfect lake day. I live in Minnesota, which is the land of 10,000 lakes. And here, whether it's winter or summer, we greatly appreciate a beautiful lake day, especially um when it's open water, when we can take our boats out. And if you live on the ocean or near the coastline, I'm sure you also relate to this in a different way. But there's nothing better to me than a 70-some degree day on the water, in the boat, sunglasses on, songs ripping, especially those boat type jams. You've got a good snack, maybe a cold bev, and you're just hanging out on the lake. I think we all appreciate that. And nice body of water to chill out on. Next one is family you can lean on. I'm telling you guys, at this chapter of my life, family has been immensely impactful. And I think we take for granted whether you have a large family, a small family, a bunch of family you lean on, or very few. Lainey's very vocal today, or very few people you lean on, the people we do have, we often take for granted when we really shouldn't, because family is absolutely everything. And it's the it those are the people in your life that are unwavering. And with that, this is a reminder to reach out to your family members that you haven't reached out to in a long time, such as your grandparents, your parents, siblings you don't see very often, maybe aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, the people that you love in your life that play a large role in helping take care of you or reaching out and seeing how you're doing, make sure you reach out to them. Let this be your reminder and your sign because family, when it comes down to it, you think of the apocalypse, the end of the world. Those are the people we will run away with, escape with, and try to protect. Those are the people that matter. So nurture your family relationships, care about them. The next one is a solid church community, whether or not you are a believer or faith is a part of your life. I think having a really strong community of people who have the same values as you is equally important. But for this one in particular, because I am a faith-based individual, I think having a really great group of people that have the same values, beliefs that I do, have a faith in Jesus Christ that I can connect with has been integral in my life. Whether that's just to talk about the problems I'm facing or just, you know, things that I'm going through, having that connection, people who can come from the same background and share their opinions and give me some encouragement has just been hugely important to me. I have a few submitted by my twin sister who's been featured on the podcast several times, Stephanie. These ones I really liked. She said, the chirping of birds every single morning during spring and summer, I've been hearing them as I wake up each day, and it just makes me think of God and how He made us a beautiful natural alarm each morning. That could not be more true. My parents' house is kind of out near the countryside, and when you stand out on their deck, you can hear the birds. It's just like, it sounds like a fake artificial sound. It is so beautiful. And I do agree with her. I think that having birds every day really is a natural alarm, especially if you are someone who's ever heard a rooster in the morning. That's a totally different sound and not nearly as pleasant. But they are kind of like a natural alarm in that sense. And I think of the early humans that we were very reliant on the sun for our natural circadian rhythm. The birds, I do believe, played a part in that. And it's just the most beautiful sound. She also said the feeling of scoring a goal, a run, a touchdown, etc., in your favorite sport. No matter how old I get, it's still the greatest feeling scoring a goal during competition. So much adrenaline and it boosts your confidence. So Stephanie is someone who plays club hockey and she's really good at it. She always has been. And I happen to agree with her. It is the best feeling. Um, and as a runner myself, personally, it's kind of that high I get when I'm on a really good run and I reach a certain mile, or I just feel like I it's clicking with me, maybe. It is like such a natural high. And it's like she said, it boosts your confidence and it it's an adrenaline rush and it feels good. Her next one was when you hit every single green light, traffic is easy and you arrive at your destination early or right on time. No matter if you're going to work or an appointment or out with friends or whatever it might be. And this one, so true. Um, I grew up, my dad would say, Give me green, baby, give me a green as we're driving toward the stoplight. And now I I love that feeling when you're just hitting all the greens and you're especially maybe even running late, I'll add to that one, running a little bit late and it makes you on time because you hit so many green lights. This one was so good. I love that she submitted that because it is the best feeling when you show up and you're perfectly on time for your event. You feel like you got all your SHIT together and you just you're ready to go, and that's nothing, nothing better than that, right? So if you hit some green lights today, remember that a lot of times you're gonna hit red. So the green lights are something to be grateful for. Just a couple more for you guys. This one was submitted by my husband and it gave me a chuckle, so I um he also submitted a few of the ones I've said previously, so um want to give him some credit there. But he also said a crunch wrap supreme, and I added to that your fat favorite fast food order. Um, my husband loves Taco Bell, so far and away, that is his favorite place. Taco Bell is not my favorite place. I don't know what my favorite fast food place is, maybe Arby's or culverse or something. I love an Arby's sandwich. I know the meat is terrible for you, but I do love it, not gonna lie. Um but yeah, he loves Crunch Wrap Supreme. And if you're a Taco Bell fan out there, you should put it in the show notes. Just say Crunch Wrap Supreme's rock or something like that because my husband would feel supported. And finally, cold foam. Cold foam is the last thing. If you have yet to try cold foam at Starbucks in particular, because I've had the cold foam at Caribou, which is a local chain here in Minnesota, not the same. Um, get the cold foam at Starbucks, you guys. They had a lavender for the spring, a lavender cold foam. It was delicious. The sweet cream cold foam is always a good hit, but they have a lot of brown sugar cold foam, another really good one. They have a lot of good flavors. I highly encourage you to try it on your cold brew. 11 out of 10, I get it all the time. It's kind of my sweet treat to myself. Um, when I'm driving around with Laney, I get a cold foam coffee. But that is it. That is all I have for you guys today. I hope you're having a lovely weekend. I got a busy weekend ahead myself. So this was kind of a fun way to gear into that. Um, thanks for listening and be sure to follow the pod to catch the rest of the gratitude series. Appreciate you guys as always, and talk to you soon.
