Hey my friend, let me ask you something. When was the last time you played? Not worked, not exercise, not productive fun. Just played. Well, today I want to talk about that powerful idea. So stay with me. You know, the opposite of play is not work, it's depression. And I know that might sound a little intense, but stay with me because if you've been feeling burned out, stuck, disconnected, or like life feels a little heavy, this might be exactly what your brain and your body are missing. And I'm going to give you one brave move that can help you bring back play back to your life without guilt. Now, somewhere along the way, we stopped playing. As kids, it was natural. We laughed, we imagined, we created, we explore just because, well, we wanted to. And if you're a Gen X ray you were probably told, go outside and play. But as adults, play became optional. Or even worse, it became something we had to earn. How many of you are thinking, oh, yeah, I tell myself, I'll do that fun thing when I um and you know when we go into that, I'll relax when, or I'll have fun after. I don't have time for that right now. That's when we really, well, hurt ourselves because what replaced played for you? Productivity, schedules, deadlines, responsibilities? And listen, I'm not gonna say that those things don't matter because they do. And obviously, these are things that I also care about. But when play disappears completely, well, so does joy. And here's what the research is telling us play is not a luxury, it is essential for your brain. Play helps you reduce stress, strengthen, strengthen relationships, and increase resilience and boost overall well-being. And here's the part that really gets me. Play reconnects you to yourself. Because when you're playing, you're not performing, you're not proving something, you're not overthinking, you're just being. And for many of us, that feels unfamiliar and even uncomfortable. Because we've been conditioned to believe that if we're not being productive, we're wasting time. And trust me, sometimes that definitely is a story I tell myself. And I when I'm talking about play, I also want to talk about not just sitting vegetating, but it really is keeping your mind engaged, doing something that keeps you well, when you're taking a break and makes you laugh. It just brings you joy and you come back more energized, more creative, more focused. So the real question is not, do I have time to play? It's can I afford not to play? And here's a shift. Play doesn't have to be big, it doesn't have to be planned, and it doesn't have to be impressive. Play can be dancing in your kitchen, laughing with your friend, trying something new, doing something you're not good at. And I know that doesn't sound like play, but it is play and letting yourself just be silly. Play is anything that makes you feel alive, and here's the truth. You don't need permission to play. You just need to decide that it matters. So here's your brave move for today. Find 10 minutes and set the timer. Schedule it. No scrolling, not consuming television because that's not playing. Creating, enjoying, exploring. And here's the key: do it without trying to be good at it. Just let it be fun. And my friend, life is not meant to be lived only in productivity mode. I know, I know. Sometimes I think I it does have to be that way, but it's not. You know, I have a friend who is really struggling because she's working round the clock for her job and she feels she doesn't have time to play. She doesn't have time to do the things that she enjoys. And she really is struggling with her mental health. But that is because she is on the productivity mode 100%. So remind yourself, just like I reminded her, we are not machines. We are humans who need joy, connection, and play. So thank you for tuning in, my friend. And I hope that this episode reminds you of the things that make a difference. And of course, if this episode made you smile or made you realize how much you've been missing play, share it with someone who needs a little more lightness in their life. And remember, you don't have to earn it. You are allowed to experience it. And that is your brave move. Until tomorrow.
