What is time poverty—and why do so many high-achieving women feel like there’s never enough time?

Hey my friend, let me ask you something. Do you ever feel like no matter how much you get done, it's never enough? Like you're always rushing, catching up, squeezing things in, and still ending the day thinking, I didn't get to what I really wanted to get to be and what really matters. And today I want to talk to you about something that has a name, and that is time poverty. And if you've never heard that phrase before, well, you're not alone. I learned about this a few months ago, and it really has me thinking, and I wanted to share this with you. You know, you're about to feel very seen, by the way, because this isn't just about being busy. This is about feeling like you don't have control over your time or your life for that matter. And I'm going to give you one brave move to start talking about this and taking back control. Now, time poverty is exactly what it sounds like. Not having enough time for what matters most. But here's the thing: it's not always because you're doing too little. In fact, it's often because you're doing too much of the wrong things, especially when we've been conditioned as women to say yes to everything, to show up, to take care of everybody else, carry the mental load, and keep everything moving along. And somewhere in the middle of all that, we disappear from our own lives. And you can be successful, productive, organized, and still feel completely time poor. Because time poverty is not about your calendar, it's about your capacity. Think about that. It's about emotional bandwidth, physician fatigue, invisible labor, expectations you never agreed to. And here's where it gets real busyness has become a badge of honor. And you know, I fell into that trap for many years in my life, and I wanted to tell people how busy I was, but that's not a badge of honor you want to be wearing or showing off or proud of for that matter. You know, we say things like, I'm slammed, I'm crazy busy, I don't have time. And like it's something really to be proud of when we say these things. But what if that is the problem? Because busyness doesn't mean you're fulfilled. Being productive doesn't mean you're aligned. And doing more will not fix your time poverty. So the shift, what if the goal isn't to manage your time better, but to protect it differently? Because time is not just something you schedule, it's something you choose. I often tell my clients that time is our most precious commodity. And most of us are brought up to think that having money and you know the possessions are the most important things. And perhaps our health and family. And by the way, health is incredibly important. And family, of course, is one of the top priorities, but you can spend time with family. You cannot protect your health if you are a lack when it comes to time poverty, you know, and every yes you give, it's a no to something else. So sometimes that no, when you're going to give it to someone, is all about you finding your rest, finding your creativity, building your relationships and growing, or even giving time to your future self. So here's your brave move for today, my friend. Do a time audit for the last three days and ask yourself, what actually mattered? What did I do? What drained me? And what could I have said no to? And then this is the hardest part. Choose the one thing you're going to stop doing next week. Not forever, just next week. Because you don't create more time. You are going to reclaim it, my friend. Remind, remember, you're not behind. You're just not failing. You're not bad at time management. You've just been living in a system that is going to always reward overextension. In that moment, you decide to take back your time, everything will start to change. And if this episode resonated and hit home with you, shared with another incredible individual who's doing all the things and still isn't feeling like it's not enough. They're not showing up as the way the world is telling them they should. Let's share this concept with others because time is the greatest gift we can give to somebody. And remember that you don't need more hours in a day. You need more ownership of the ones you already have. And that is your brave move for today. Now remember, you can always join the community. There is a link in the show notes where you can go and join other incredible individuals in this journey to create more brave moves for their lives, but also to create an impact in the world. I'm so grateful that you're joining me. And if you are looking for other resources, make sure that you visit goconfidentlycoaching.com. I have a few resources that I know will continue to support your journey. Until next time, my friend. Don't forget, I love you and go confidently in the direction of your dreams.
