Go ahead now if you haven't done so already and close your eyes. Take those three deep breaths, letting out a little ah on the exhales. As the body and mind begin to drift down, to let go for a time. And you may wonder how quickly you may be able to drift into a trance, while your conscious mind has already begun drifting down, relaxing, and letting go without knowing at times how much more comfortable you can really become. And you and I both know that everyone's had the experience of falling asleep while watching television. And you're just sitting or lying there, and you close your eyes for a few moments to rest quietly. And you hear the sound of the television, the voices, the music in that comfortably relaxed way. As you drift and dream away for a time, and then come back to the words again and drift and dream away again until the sound of the television becomes a soothing sound in the background of your mind just for a time. But your subconscious mind continues to hear everything of importance. But you may not notice that you need not listen to everything I say. And you've known your whole life how much easier it can be to learn new things when you do it in a relaxed way. And so go ahead, kick back, relax, and you may notice tiny little changes, barely noticeable, happening already in the relaxation of your face, in the slowing of your breathing, or the deepening of it perhaps. As you trust your subconscious mind to know exactly how in the right way at the right time to begin to relax you even more. And isn't it interesting how much more comfortable your body has become in this breath than it was even just three or four moments before? Imaging at the edge of a beautiful lake, and the lake is clear, deep water, and the air is quiet and still, the lake like glass reflecting the mountains on the other side, and you're standing there at the edge of the lake. And as you look down, you may notice now if you hadn't noticed already, that you're standing on all kinds of different pebbles of different shapes, different colors. And there's one pebble there on the beach that calls to you, stands out to you in some way. Go ahead and pick up that pebble and hold it in your hand, turning it over, becoming aware of how it feels. The color, the little marks perhaps here and there, the shape of it there in your hand. And when you are ready, go ahead and like a little kid, toss or skip that pebble across that mirror lake of calm. And as that pebble hits the water, the water begins to flow in ripples on the surface, moving outward, disturbing the surface of the water. But just below the surface, just beneath the surface of awareness, the pebble drifts down. And as that pebble drifts down past the water fishes, drifting down past the water plants, gently floating down in the clear, deep water, nothing is disturbed as it slowly comes to rest at the bottom of the quiet lake. Even the surface ripples above become slower and quieter and dissipate. And beneath the surface, all is still, calm. And you can recognize your ability now to relax and comfortably reflect upon your problems in a certain way. Remembering those times when you were sure things were one way and they turned out to be something else entirely. Like when you were a little kid, learning that library is really library. Learning new ways of doing things, changing old beliefs while learning new meanings. And you think, isn't that interesting? That that used to be a problem for me, and now I can hardly remember what that was like. And sometimes more quickly, sometimes rather slowly, we make the change to rearrange ourselves and our life. And so as you kick back and relax, considering all of that and how you might use these things, images, feelings, and recollections later on to help you deal more effectively with things that in the past were disturbing to you, as you drift down into that clear, deep, still water where nothing is disturbed. Just breathe, just be in that place of deeper calm and clarity.
