SPEAKER_00Hello and welcome to You Are the Answer, the podcast designed to help you uncover the real wisdom of your own body. I'm Naomi Mills, chiropractor and author of the book You Are the Answer, self-empowerment coach and master firewalking instructor. And I'm here to invite you to discover that healing doesn't start in a pill or anywhere else. It starts with you. So thank you so much for joining me for my introductory episode designed to tell you what this podcast is all going to be about. So, really, for me, you are the answer is a podcast about coming home to your body. It's about regulating your nervous system, which is the system inside of you that controls absolutely everything that you experience, from how you sleep to how well you balance your hormones to how you digest your food, the fact that your heart is beating right now, your stomach is digesting food, all of these things happen automatically in our body. And there's this incredible system that is there keeping you alive all the time. And not just that, it's also providing the filter through which you see your life. And you'll know that one day something can go wrong and it's cool, it's fine, you can deal with it, you can even see the funny side or the bright side. And then on other days, one tiny thing going wrong is a catastrophe and it's the end of the world. And the difference between those two days are very often the difference of how your nervous system is operating, how far into that fight or flight survival mode that you're in. And that's biological, and it's coming at you all the time from chemical things, the things that you eat, that you put into your body, environmental toxins, things like that. It's coming from the mental, emotional stuff that's going on in your life right now. The load that you are carrying as a friend, a parent, a carer, a colleague, a spouse, in partnership with somebody, at work. There are so many challenges mentally and emotionally every day in everyday life. And then the physical stuff, probably the more obvious things, accidents that you've had in your life, surgeries, sports injuries, but also sitting down, being on your phone, being sedentary, not moving enough, and all of these elements come together to set the tone for your nervous system. And why am I completely obsessed by this? It's because I have spent more than 20 years working in primary health care, and the last 14 of those has been as a chiropractor. So that means there are people coming to me straight from their homes to try and figure out why they're not the best that they could be, why they're not well. And over all of these years, I've become really passionate about giving people back the autonomy over their bodies. I believe there is such a simple amount of information that every single one of us needs to really be empowered to make decisions of what is going to be the best for our lives and our health. It is not rocket science. It's really simple, basic good science that we just don't get taught anymore. It's not in the curriculum unless you study biology, in which case it was maybe mentioned a couple of times. So this podcast is here to give you bite-sized pieces. It's not going to be long, it's not going to be complicated. Hopefully, it's full of interesting tales or little things to make you think. My intention is that it's something manageable that you can fit in every day, sort of less than 10 minutes. It's going to come with access to things like meditations and online tools. So you can go deeper and you can order the book and you can come to an in-person retreat or come for some chiropractic care. But my true intention with this podcast is to get you interested in yourself again, in your body, in that mind-body-spirit connection and how it is shaping every single part of your life. So we're going to explore things like why your nervous system is the foundation of your health and your happiness. Spot when you are in survival mode and how to shift it. My intention is that each episode will be approximately 10 minutes long. They're going to come out every single Wednesday so that you've got time to reflect on what we do, and you can head online and use some of the meditations and other lifestyle tools that I've created to help you really navigate your own path to trusting your body and creating your own life and health. Because when you live with a nervous system that is in ease, it's called the parasympathetic state. I sometimes call it the holiday state. It's when you sleep deeply and consistently. You can take on new information, you can focus, you can digest your food and not have reactions all the time. You are resilient, you are strong, you probably don't get sick as often or suffer from a lot of the aches, pains, and ailments that you have been ignoring for a really long time. And when that happens, we make completely different life choices, not just for ourselves, but the people around us that we care about. And not just even that, when we live from that space of abundance or health or thriving, whatever you want to call it, you're much more likely to reach out and help somebody else because you've simply got the capacity for it. So this is the really big picture of the you are the answer ethos is that if we all had greater autonomy over our lives and our health, then we would be in a much better position to raise each other up. And if that is not a grand enough idea for a podcast, I do not know what is. So we're going to take this in small bite-sized chunks. I would love to hear your feedback, hear your questions, hear what you would like to know and understand better, and I will do all that I can to create it for you. Thank you so much for joining me, and I look forward to speaking with you soon. Thank you for listening to You Are the Answer.
