In this episode, we’re taking you inside our visit to the chiropractor — from first-time nerves to full-on adjustments.
For one of us, it was a brand new experience (yes, there was hesitation… yes, it happened anyway). For the other, it’s part of an ongoing routine, complete with things like shockwave therapy and a deeper understanding of how the body holds tension.
We talk about what surprised us, what actually felt good, what we learned, and how it shifted the way we think about caring for our bodies — not just when something’s wrong, but as part of ongoing wellness.
Plus, an unexpected deep dive into vibration plates and the small things that can support your body in everyday life.
It’s honest, a little funny, and a reminder that taking care of yourself doesn’t always look the same — sometimes it looks like trying something new, asking questions, and letting yourself be taken care of.

Welcome to Soft Core Wellness. I'm Savannah. I'm Chelsea. This is a space to explore without pressure, perfectionism, or performance. Softness, strength, and being human.
SPEAKER_01That's the vibe. Let's get into it. Let's do it. So in December, Chelsea and I went to visit Dr. Sean Robinson at Easewell Chiropractic. They have a couple of locations around the city. Um, we went to their location over in Madison Yard off of Memorial. I've been seeing Dr. Sean for three years now. Chiropractic has been a big part of my life. It was Chelsea's first adjustment. So it was really fun. We asked lots of questions, learned lots of things. So we want to kind of just like share with you the recap of our experience, and we'll pop in some clips of the experience of when we were there off-site to kind of talk about the different modalities that the chiropractic has to offer because it's not just a get your back and neck cracked. There's a lot of other things that go along with it. They're really focusing on spinal health, the soft tissues that support the spine and the alignment of the spine and other muscles and bones in the body, but they're also really targeting the nervous system so that the energy kind of flows through you, the signals from the brain to the muscles of the body so that you have better alignment in your movement, um, your nervous system regulation, migraines, that kind of thing.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So Savannah, yeah. Share with us your chiropractic journey overall. When did you first start going? Why did it help?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I want to hear it all.
SPEAKER_01Totally. So I started going out in California in 2018, I believe. I was having a lot of like neck tension. Um, I think I have a little bit of like whiplash from like a little car fender bender type thing that could have triggered some of it, but I was also in a super, super stressful job. I was in my late 20s. And for those of you that don't know about migraines, I get them. It's genetic. When I went to a neurologist to kind of talk about what that even was, um, she did inform me that usually they'll get triggered and you start having them more often in your late 20s. And that was the case for me. It's not like that for everybody, but I was having a lot of really debilitating migraines, horrible neck tension, back tension. It was to the point where like I would have to take days off of work. It was horrible. You know, the allopathic doctor recommended that I go to physical therapy. So I did a couple of physical therapy sessions. It wasn't helping that much. And then my mom was like, You really should go see a chiropractor. It helped her so much with some alignment issues and chronic pain. So I did. I went, I found one that luckily also offered massage at the beginning of every session. So we did a lot of soft tissue stuff. The first time that I went, I was very skeptical. I had no idea what it was. I didn't do any research. My mom just said you should go. I kind of went in blind, and no one told me that this very smart elder man was gonna lay on me with his whole body weight and smush you and swish me. And I was like, Whoa, what is happening? It was a very bizarre experience. Um, but I was very affirmed in how my body responded. I was gonna say, did you feel like you left that day being like, wait, I feel yes, there was an immediate reset, and then you know, going on a regular basis was really, really helpful as well. So it became something where I was going for a while when it was really inflamed. I was going once a week for adjustments, and then we went down to biweekly once a month, that kind of thing for regular cadence. And so I've been going since then. Um, when I moved up to the Pacific North Northwest, I, you know, went to different two different chiropractors based on the cities that I was living in. Yeah. Um, so it was someone local. And so it's been interesting because each chiropractor in each office has like a different vibe. Like there was one where I went laid down on this little table that was like to kind of say it seems like they all have different toys. Yes, exactly, and different ways to like get you ready for the adjustment. The man in California, we had like a whole 15 to 25 minute massage from massage therapists, heat therapy, ESTEM. Like that was not your quick in and out 30-minute adjustment. I was there for always like an hour to two sometimes every time. It was very indulgent. Yeah. Um, and then I had the one where you went on this little table and it was very much just it warms up your spine a little bit, crack, done, boom, shorter. Um, but then I went to another one in the heart of Seattle, and he started giving me more PT exercises to do to strengthen to complement that um work that we were doing with the adjustments. I was then diagnosed with the Bendy disorder. We'll plug the name because I never pronounce it correctly. But it's what gives me like hypermobility, and so that's why I'm like so naturally good at yoga when really I shouldn't go to like as far as I could because of what my body can do naturally isn't necessarily best for it. So having both the neurologist that I went to for migraines and the chiropractor tell me that, you know, that's probably what's going on. Um that can allow my body to go out of alignment easier than some other people. So really working on strengthening the muscles, isolating the muscles to build that support around the spine is gonna be really important. And so that was really impactful getting a practitioner that also was giving me that homework and not just doing the quick adjustment and leaving. Yeah. So I got established with Dr. Sean when I moved back to Georgia and Atlanta, and he's been fantastic. Um, his background in sports medicine, I think, is really or his passion is really important to me. I love that he's very big in the skateboarding community, very knowledgeable with extremities, that high impact stuff. But it's been fantastic because he also gets right in there. He does the soft tissue work, he's very intentional with the body. He does cupping, Eastern, the shockwave therapy, which we did and we'll talk about. Eastern. Yeah. So ESTEM are these cute little stickers that they put on you on your back and they hook you up to a little like machine. And it's basically sending electric signals to make your muscles contract, and it brings like the blood flow to that area for additional healing. Like when you get the oxygenated blood there, it helps with inflammation, things like that. So that's always really good for isolating spots. Like again, I get a lot in my neck and shoulders, so we usually always do my shoulders. Gotcha. Um, great question. Yeah. And you said the shock wave. Yeah, the shock wave. So you'll see that in our recap. That's become one of my favorite things. So Dr. Sean is very passionate about getting in and giving the soft tissue work to loosen you up so you can maximize the results of your adjustment and the body work that we do. The sonic wave is a little machine that goes and it taps on you. And all of those vibrations are so, so strong. It I forget the like little statistic, but it's like the power of like a full, like a massage. Like it is very intense and it is very painful actually. But it really gets things loosened up for a great adjustment, and it's just like intense. But yeah, so that's a really great addition that you can add on to just a regular adjustment, but it has changed my life.
SPEAKER_02You feel like your migraines either have like decreased overall or decreased in intensity, both yes, absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Obviously, when you go to the doctor, they want to give you meds, um, which I have tried and I am still on a very low dose of like a beta blocker as a preventative. But as far as like the tension and the lack of alignment and stuff like that, Dr. Sean has gotten me to where I rarely have them anymore. And so it's very easy to listen to my body and like try to catch them as they come on to kind of like minimize and things like that.
SPEAKER_02What other than migraines do you feel like has improved by seeing a chiropractor for you?
SPEAKER_01Um, I think it's helped me with a lot more body awareness. With the migraines as well. When I started to go see Dr. Sean, it was after like a spell of having a lot of change in my life. So I wasn't as physically active as I have been most of my life. Yeah. So really getting back into like the fitness and body movement and stuff like that has also really, really helped, I think, with all of the work that I've been doing with Dr. Sean on the alignment. I know that when I started, I definitely had a lot more visible symptoms of like tech neck. So that's where the natural curvature of your neck starts to like one decrease and almost pump out where you've got that little like um camel hump right there, right? And I wish I wish I had before and after photos because it is so incredible the difference that I've seen over the last couple of years with both exercising, working on stress management, fully a holistic practice with some dietary changes, the body work on a regular basis, um, the PT to build it up and stuff like that. It's it's been great. So it's definitely increased the quality of my life being able to show up for myself, be more attentive at work, um, in my friendships and relationships with my family and that kind of thing. So I recommend it for everyone, even on like a maintenance. Like I go once a month now or as needed. If I have like a flare-up, then obviously I will go. But yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's cool though, too, that you it hasn't just impacted your physical wellness. It's definitely helped support your mind.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. Cause when you're in a bunch of pain, yeah, I am irritable, I'm crabby, I want to sleep, I'm gonna cry more. Like pain is so debilitating and really affects your mental health and well-being. That getting that chronic pain reduced so much to it either one not being there anymore at such a manageable minuscule level has definitely impacted my mental health, my quality of life and satisfaction with my day-to-day. And then, yeah, my relationships and ability to show up more authentically.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
unknownI love that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02What else do you want to share about your experience or with Sean specifically?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Just to plug him specifically, he's got a great sense of humor, so authentic, so knowledgeable, which I love. Yeah. Always looking at it from a holistic picture, very much into dietary recommendations, overall inflammation. How can we soften and make this like a longer term change? Um, we'll plug a couple of his like interview snippets, but what a joy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Very fun. So um I could tell people I I found chiropractic as much as it kind of found me. Um, I originally grew up in Alabama as a young skateboarder who just loved a genuine, love to have fun with my trying. And fortunately I suffered a state accident or knocked me unconscious. And didn't think much of it. A few months later, started noticing my parents that happening, and I remember telling a lot of parents about it. I never really explained to them like the fall or anything like that. I didn't it was months later I had to think about the correlation and um take me to the medical doctor, and I did like a brain scan, and like, you know, there's not oh there's no tumor, there's no brain bleed, good to go. There's uh migrant medication that we can give him. That was kind of like you just got off a little bit. I was like young, I think I was like 14 or 15, and I was like, Hey, yeah, I know, yeah, exactly. So I kind of left with that because I just got undefeated. And um actually, again, this is kind of how the Catapult found me. I found yeah, I've actually working at a shoe store, selling shoes, clothes, things like that, and chiropractors like the town comes in and sign and feel like anybody else, I'd style on a pair of shoes and say, thanks for coming in, you know, have a great day. And I'm like, no, before we go, like I really like you, you know, thanks to those two. Like, no, like you need to come and work for my husband to be a chiropractor, I think he would be a great engagement for the office. I was like, oh I'm honored, but what's a chiropractor? And I was gonna get kind of they said, you know, meeting, I'll explain to them they're like, it's like PT, but they're focused on the time. I was very familiar with PT, I was interested in PT. I lost my father to drugs and surgery a few years prior to that. So I was interested in alternative health names for people. So I was like, I thought you check that out. And how can I explain that why it's on what happened there? And I would let it because I immediately like a light focused on my head and was like, yeah, this is a connection. That makes sense, that's what he focused on. And he just kind of hit it off, and I thought he was a good guy, so I started working there. Uh kid. And the paragraph is a teenager, not having a lot of funds or anything like that. So uh I noticed after that first month of working there, my grandfather's been like, I hadn't had that feeling for the past few years. I don't know, I just almost felt like it was like my calling to go into that world and just talk to people about me. There's this other thing out here that you've been told nothing's gonna help you. It's not every single migraine that gets cured with chiropractic, it's not which it was, but I see a lot of biomechanical migraine being kind of cured with chiropractic, and to me it makes sense. If there was a car accident, a slip and fall, dropping there as a baby, falling off the trampoline as a teenage, whatever, these things happen, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And again, I love that he like shows up for the community. He's got pop-ups around town. We'll plug some of those if you want to pop by and see him, meet him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he really loves the skateboarding community. Yeah. So all our skateboarding fam out there. Yeah. Make sure you check him out. He really understands those injuries and those traumas that folks who skateboard experience.
SPEAKER_01Definitely. But overall, yeah, that's kind of it. But I was so excited to share your first experience with you. I'd love to know, because I was just like, uh, let's go. And you're like, oh my gosh, I'm kind of scared. I don't want my neck cracked, those kinds of things. Yeah. So I'd love for you to share with me kind of what your thoughts were going in and like leading up, how did you mentally prepare for this first adjustment? That kind of thing.
SPEAKER_02Totally. So I was scared. Um, I've heard horror stories about chiropractic, like, specifically, someone I know like had their neck fractured and like developed this crazy like muscle spasm disorder and like has to get Botox treatments like in their neck. And so I was just like, probably not for me. I never need to do that. Um, and I don't have like migraines or like any muscular skeletal things that require like that sort of acute care. So it just wasn't really on my radar, like love and massage um and different things like that. But I'm super curious. So whenever someone's like, want to try something new, I'm like, yes. But I was apprehensive. Um, and I told them immediately. I was like, A, I'm scared because I know scary things can happen at the chiropractor. Also, I'm afraid that you're going to like see something in my body and be like, oh my God, I can't believe you've been walking and talking and living and breathing with this, like so broken for so long. Oh my god. Or that it was gonna be like the most amazing thing ever, and I was gonna be addicted and spend all of my money at the chiropractor forever and ever going forward. So none of those things were true, which is good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no extremes here. Yeah. We're softening, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh we walked in and they knew Savannah, so of course they just like got her set up right away. So I got to sort of watch her go through the process, which I think helped a little bit. He was great. He kind of worked on us not simultaneously, but set her up and then set me up and then went back and forth. Um, so we both got to experience a little bit of each other's um sessions. Um, so when we got there, you get to go into this room where they have, I think, three things the vibration plates, what is it, the roller table?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's a little rolling table that gets into the spine, and then there's like that full body chair that you like put your arms. Oh, yeah. And it's like, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Which I like. I've done those before. So I chose the rolling table, which is also what Savannah did. Um, because I hadn't tried it before. Um, and so you just lay there and it kind of rolls from your tailbone all the way up to your cervical spine and back and forth. It's so nice. It feels really good. It's such a treat. It does feel really good. I took a little video of myself like upside down because I was just like, whoa, like being on like a hard waterbed or something. I don't know. Yeah, that's yeah. Yeah, but it felt really nice. Um, so you just kind of hang out for like 10 or 15 minutes getting warmed up while he's doing something else with someone else. And so that was kind of just a nice way to relax and tune in before we started. Um, so then I got to talk to him for a little bit and express my fears, and he is extremely knowledgeable and he knew not exactly what to say to convince me, but like I am relatively cerebral, so I like to do my research and I want to understand why things work and how they work, and his answers were legit based on my research. So, for what that's worth.
SPEAKER_01Pop quiz in the past.
SPEAKER_02But he I trusted what he was saying. Um, he's very knowledgeable. What he said made sense to me based on what I know about the body, which is I think more than average, not as much as stomach. Um, so that made me feel really comfortable. And then I went to the table and I think I started on my stomach, and so he spent a lot of time adjusting my hips, which were out of alignment, which is not surprising at all. Um, partly because I had a leg trauma when I was like six, I broke my leg. Um, so I know one leg is longer than the other because I had a cast on my leg for like five, four or five months. Wow. So that impacts your growth. Totally itty bitty like that, and I kick box, so that's gotta throw my hips out of alignment. Totally, yes, absolutely. Uh so yeah, he spent some time trying to get like that realigned. He used a tool, and I feel so bad that I do not remember the name of it. I call it the cattle prod. Because that is what it looks like.
SPEAKER_01It's like an attachment on a percussor machine.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like it just like it doesn't zap you, it's not electrical. He's not like but it like vibrates hard, but in a way that feels good. So he just kind of like put that on my back and it like jolted a couple spots where I had knots and things. Yeah. He explained to me what a knot actually is. Like in my mind, like in theory, I knew what it was, but I didn't understand that it's like the the muscle fibers and like build up around them, and they just sort of get like stuck and bunched up all together, and it can happen for a million different reasons, and so now I know more and understand what that actually means and why it happens. Um, that was really cool. And then he did crack my neck, which I was anxious about, but he basically just like cradled my little head and just like bounced it around, and then all of a sudden it was just like and I it felt great. Like afterwards, I was like, I'm so much looser. Yeah, like I feel like, for lack of a better phrase, like my joints were all like lubed up and happy.
SPEAKER_01You feel taller, yeah. It's a huge reset. I love that.
SPEAKER_02One of the things I thought was really crazy, which I got to witness on Savannah, and then he did on me too, was like he basically goes to the end of the table and looks at your feet. And I don't know exactly what he's looking at, but he's like, Oh, I see now. And he's like, Turn your head this way. You're laying on your back or turn your head that way. And then he comes and does an adjustment and he goes and looks at your feet again, and he's like, fixed it. And I'm just like, I don't like it makes sense. Like, obviously, your spine and everything's all connected, but I'm just like, it feels a little bit like magic. That's so funny. How can you tell from my feet?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's like he's looking at like the lighter stuff, and then he'll do like the muscle testing. So it's like he'll be like, Okay, hold your arms out in front of you. We're like laying down, and then he'll be like, Don't let me push your arms. So you like hold the resistance, and then he'll have you turn one side and then turn another side and do it. And you can feel, and he's trained to feel the really like micro subtle changes to see like where like you're having like holding weakness and what side needs to be aligned, and then he'll usually do an adjustment and then retest. And I can usually feel a difference by then. Maybe it's a placebo, we don't know. Yeah, but definitely feels more like stable.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, and it was interesting, like it definitely was a difference between one side to the other, as far as like his pushing and my being able to hold my arms up. And I saw it on you too. Yeah, like it looked really obvious. Yeah. So I don't think that's a placebo, but maybe the fact that I could see it.
SPEAKER_01A lot of chiropractors feel it in their trained. I yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so that was interesting. Also, he not every chiropractor is trained in. In like limb work, and he is, so that was cool to have him sort of like work on my wrists a little bit. I also broke my arm when I was little, so like that is a little crunchy and uneven. And he said he could work it all out, like it's not permanent. And if we worked on that consistently, I would have full range of motion in my wrist again, and like the tension could come out a little bit. So that was nice to hear because I was just like, uh, when you break your arm, when you're just forever, and that's what everyone else has always said, and it doesn't cause me pain or anything, so it's not urgent that I get help with that. But it was just cool to know that someone was like, I see this and I can help.
SPEAKER_01Totally. Yeah, he's done a lot of work on my ankles, especially when I'm kickboxing a lot. I had a foot injury. I'll tell you the embarrassing story, everybody. I've only broken two bones, and they're on my left foot, and they're the two tiniest toes. And if you look at them now, you will notice that they stopped growing because it was the growth platelets, so they are shorter than the toes on the other foot. It's not that noticeable. I'm gonna look. But I know, no free foot content.
SPEAKER_02I'll check for you all.
SPEAKER_01But there really is a noticeable difference if you are like looking for it. But so I slipped on an ice cube that my brother accidentally dropped when we were in like, well, I think I was like in ninth grade or something. And then my foot hit the corner of the wall and it it broke this here. So I have tension still in that side of the body. So usually if I'm getting an ankle acting up, it will be the left ankle. And so, especially when I'm kickboxing or doing higher impact things, it will stress. And Dr. Sean has done so much work on really getting into like the fine-tuning of the ankle, and it's made such a difference. Um, we actually did that sonic wave on the back of my foot and my calf. We've done it twice. So effective. Yeah, one of the most painful things I've ever done. I mean, it's just so intense, but so, so, so effective. Yeah, I love that he has the little specialization for the extremities.
SPEAKER_02No, that's it's nice. It makes a difference, I think. Because I don't know that anyone else is really like working on that unless you're going in and seeing like an orthopedist, and that's really just bones and they want to do surgery. Nobody wants that.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02Unless you need it.
SPEAKER_01And same with like the jaw, like he'll work on aligning the jaw. I've only had one other chiropractor, it was the one in California, do a lot of like jaw work. And so that's also like a cool thing that he adds that not everybody works on.
SPEAKER_02Which is great, because yeah, your jaw is so tapped into your nervous system, and when you're stressed, so people cut. Yep.
SPEAKER_01I have TMJ, and obviously Botox helps, which I love getting Botox there, but it's not something that I do every time because you don't want to like have the jowls or like other weird side effects if you have those muscles like paralyzed for too long. So him supplementing and doing that work is it's so good. That's amazing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02He did talk a bit too about like his own things that he's experienced, migraines also as a kid, and like getting in alignment and getting that figured out, and also plantar fasciitis and shockwave on that helped him. Yes. Um, that's also common with kickboxers because we're bouncing and doing things on our feet that can cause plantar fasciitis to happen. So it's cool to know that there's just so many tools in a chiropractor's toolkit. Like I literally just thought it was cracking. Isn't that so cool? And he had so many fun toys.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I love it. Um, he's done backcupping on me as well, get the blood flowing. Yep, he's done that with me before. Um, he did touch on the little vibration plate. If you want to share, Chelsea was really interested in getting feedback since it's like all over social media. Like, get yourself this little like vibration plate.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, they look fun. It's supposed to help with lymphatic drainage. And so I asked him, I'm like, is this real? Is this legit? I saw you have one in your room. He was like, Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I I personally love the vibration plate for me. I'll use it all the time in the office as like a warm-up for me. Um, you know, just kind of getting the coffee activated, getting the muscles loosen it up. Because what's really cool about it is essentially any exercise you do on it, it doubles. So it's like you do 10 squats, really, it's like doing 20 squats. Because it's combining in this balance core aspect. So it's making all these other muscles engage as what I'll use it for a lot of times is I'll use it for my older population to help with proprioception and balance. Because that's a big thing. As you get older, bones weaken, and balance doesn't get better, right? Right, yeah. And so what happens is people will fall, break something, give whatever, right? And that can lead to sedentary movement, which leads to decreased quality of life. So it's like I see a lot of times it's this domino.
SPEAKER_02Right, the cognitive post-down set effect.
SPEAKER_00Right. And so it's like if you can stop, if you can just kind of prevent that balance issue from ever being an issue, if you can stop that fall from ever happening, you can essentially stop that decline from setting in, right? So that's why I like to use it. Uh I'll say it's probably one of it's probably the least used therapy in here, only because I do find it it's more of a niche kind of thing, and sometimes there's people won't prefer the roller or the one of the others. Hey, we we got this for you. I don't know, a few people that are on um different spectrums, and sometimes that pressure is too much. But for vibration, their brain loves it. Yeah. So like I said, it's really interesting to kind of see how different people, how they you know, correlate and tolerate different kinds of care. So it's just one of those kind of things that if it helps you, use it. Um a lot of times my favorite thing is to do like one single-leg little like depth sound, especially after I broke my ankle, that was like a big repair, but I felt like I didn't have that strength and the pushback up. So that one's really cool because it's up high and I got to dip and push up and have that balance with it. So I feel like my ankle kind of you know, just recovered a little bit better with it. But then they'll look at some studies and they'll say, well, there's not a huge effect on it. Personally, what I've seen in the clinic is I do see that proprioception balance getting better. So like I said, if it works, use it if you don't see any benefit, uh they're good. Yeah, just might not be for you. Yeah, they're nice, and it's like I said, it's just a it's a cool way to get the body blood moving, right? You don't you can literally stand on it and do absolutely nothing. Right. You get off of it, and you're like, Yeah, I feel good. My legs feel good, my lower back feel good, because sometimes the body just really resonates with vibration. I'm definitely one of those people with vibration, yeah, anything. I think that's why I like the skateboarding on a heel, right? That vibration comes. Yeah. That was all when I first started skating, that was like all I did. I didn't even learn tricks probably for the first like year. It was like, I just want to feel the vibration.
SPEAKER_01I love that. And I love that um he's talked about even like chiropractic adjustments for babies or like you know, younger humans all the way up through later in life, and how it can really be effective and complementary to literally all age groups and wherever you are in your journey, which is really nice.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I really enjoyed it. Am I a full convert gonna go all the time? Probably not. Um, but I think if I'm having an issue that feels skeletal or nervous system like connection, um, I would absolutely go see Sean again. Yes, he was fantastic. I love it. Um, I appreciate that he was open to all my questions because I like to ask a lot. And it was a great experience. Super friendly, super knowledgeable. I would absolutely recommend him, especially for someone who's scared like I was. Like he had all the answers. Totally.
SPEAKER_01And he's got different tools that were if you were like, um, I really don't want you to pop my neck at all. He's got this nice little like clicky thing that sometimes when my neck is really stiff and it doesn't want to, because he's not gonna be one that like forces it, you know. It's like we're working in partnership with your body.
