Welcome, welcome, fellow yogis, and welcome back to the Soul Deep Yoga and Healing Podcast. I'm your host, Kimmy, and next to me I have Brittany. Woo! Alright. What are we talking about today? We're talking about the solar plexus chakra, and we are excited to dive deep into that. Um, before we get into our topic though, we will be just going over our week. So, Brittany, tell me how has the last week been for you? Um, busy.
SPEAKER_02I feel like you're always busy. I know, huh? I say every week. Um, with the sun coming up, I mean, oh my gosh. The sun coming up. Um, with the sun coming out and it being like really nice weather, um, I've been trying to get out as much as possible. So last week I mentioned that we went we went golfing. Oh boy, that was an experience. Um uh thank you, Preston Golf, for dealing with a noob. Um I um, anyways, but it was a great experience. Um, it was fun to just like hang out with my 12-year-old, and then um on Friday we ended up going down to the drive range down the road from me, and I thought that was really fun. I want to go there. I need to go self-serving, and you can choose how big of a basket of balls you want, and you can practice all kinds of things out there. I practice with my 9-iron and my driver, so heck yeah, yeah, just been productive, been working and doing all the things. All the things, all the things I don't know. This week went by so fast that like I did. I'm just like, what it like, what day is it? I know it went by so quick. I feel the same way.
SPEAKER_01Um, what about you? How was your week? It's been great, yeah. Like you said, the weather's been good. So I've been outside in the yard doing some yard work, and that's been really fun. I've been listening to my books while I do it, so it's extra good. Um, yeah, we also, my my boyfriend, his grandma passed away, and they're about to get ready to sell her house, and so we've been going over on the weekends to like do some stuff. So we put in the rest of the flooring in the upstairs this week. Um, and it was really funny because while I was there, we brought my dog Frankie. She's my best friend. She's Frank. Cute little little she's not really little. She's not really little, uh, but she's a sweetheart. But it was really cool because um we put her in the backyard and the next door neighbor had a dog, and they were like coming up to the fence, like sniffing each other. And I'm not kidding, it was Frank's twin. They were literally the exact same height, like same exact type of dog. Interesting, same coloring and everything. Like it was so cute. It had me wondering if it was one of Frank's siblings, like to be honest, because they were identical, and I was like, mate, I was like, come out here and look at this right now. Um, and yeah, they they're just sniffing each other. That looks like Frank's looking in a mirror. It was so cute, it was so fun. Did Frank end up playing with her? Uh the no the owners weren't over there and they it was just through the fence, but it was just like a whatever, like a wire fence so they could see each other, but they were just sniffing and you know, going back and forth.
SPEAKER_02It's like a reflection in the mirror for them.
SPEAKER_01It was so funny. I was like, come look at this. Um, but yeah, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_02Anyhow. I actually like you know, like thinking back on it, because like last week we talked about the um sacral chakra, which is like the where our joy is, and like do all the feelings all week. I just filled that cup up with joy. Oh yeah, so like the golfing, the drive range, um all of our like learning new things, so yeah, it's actually been a fairly good week. That's awesome. I love that, yeah. And I I I've had a lot of students just make these awesome comments the last week, too. I agree. I same, yes, yeah. So we had a new student today, and she was like, I typically don't like yoga, but like this was different, this was such a good balance, and I was like, Thank you. Um Deanza, she's like, I just love how happy you get when you're teaching this stuff. So she's like, You're into it, like I know. Yeah, yeah, like that Sigral Chakra energy was flowing all week, actually. So that was kind of cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's great. I was I was definitely I was vibing, I was happy all week. Like I've just been so content.
unknownContent.
SPEAKER_02Alright, so we have our pull of the day. What did you pull, Kimmy? Spirit? I pulled the spirit card. So the words associated are guides and other world. And the mantra is I am guided by ancestors, deities, and others on my spirit team. The message, the ethril element of spirit, bridges the seen and unseen, connecting you to your spirit guides, past loved ones, and other worlds. This card is a reminder that you are never truly alone. Your guides walk with you, offering wisdom and protection from the realms beyond. Trust in the subtle whispers and signs that you encounter in everyday life, feathers on your path, repeating numbers and symbols, deja vu and such. These come from the other world and are messages meant to guide your soul's journey. By tuning in to the energy of spirit, you open yourself to divine guidance. Embrace this connection. Take some time to connect with your spirit team at your altar in quiet meditation or prayer, or out in nature and tune into what messages they have for you. Remember that you are always guided and protected by them. And your prompt. What signs have you been receiving lately that tell you your guides are wanting to connect? And what should you have done to communicate with them? Or what should you do to communicate with them?
SPEAKER_00I love that. That's a good one.
SPEAKER_02That is a good one. And in fact, a lot of our students pulled guide cards today, to be honest. Yeah, a lot of them did. They're like, hey, listen to your intuition. We did. Time to do that. Inner listening.
SPEAKER_01All right, Brett. Do you have any love hates for the week?
SPEAKER_02Okay, yeah. So, okay. My love, I've been waiting. I told you this before class because I wanted to hype you up. So I love checking our podcast stats, and I'm gonna tell you why. So I was checking them today. Okay. Listen, we have downloads in Africa. Really? Yes. I'm not even joking. Cool. And and our downloads in Vietnam are high for a beginner starting podcast.
SPEAKER_00Really?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01That is so cool. Yeah, I love looking at the stats. It's so cool to see where everyone's listening from. I know. So thank you. All the people around the world at this point, which is kind of crazy. Um, but yeah, um, that's a good love.
SPEAKER_02I love how I had to save that for you for later. Yeah. Um, well, because I tell you everything anyway, so I've got to save some stuff, right?
SPEAKER_01I know. Brittany, she'll in the morning when I get here, she's like, I have something to say on the podcast, but you have to wait. I'm like, okay. I locally hate it sometimes because I'm like, just tell me so I can be prepared. But I I get this one was pretty valid. That's great. I love it. Do you have a love? Um, yeah, so we did a sound bath on Saturday, our monthly sound bath Saturday. And um, my love, we had one of our students come who had never like done a sound bath in real life, and um, it was just really cool because she had lots of questions, she was so um interested in the equipment that we were doing or using, and um, it was just really cool. And to go along with that in the sound bath, um my love is I'm I'm learning how to finally play like the tongue drum, and I feel like I'm finally starting to figure it out, and so um yeah, that's that's my love this week. The sound bath and playing the tongue drum and actually feeling like I played it all right.
SPEAKER_02I have to say, I get so excited when you bring that tongue drum out. I love the sound of that tongue drum. I do too. It is, I I love the tongue drum, and I love it when we get the gong out. The gong. I love a good gong.
SPEAKER_01Do you have a hate or an annoyance? Um, I do because it happened to me today because we taught we taught the solar plexus chakra class this morning, and um, I'm wearing these blue sweats and a gray, gray top, and at like after class I'm in here and I'm like dancing, I'm all hyped up, and like as we're about to get into you know what we're talking about, the solar plexus is like the the fire, you know, the the intensity, and so we did like a pretty intense class. I come in here and I look in the mirror, I lift my arms up, and there's just some pit stains underneath, and it's just yeah, kind of funny. Um, so my hate is when I sweat through my shirt, but also it's just like gray shirts in general. Like so you just see it, yeah. You can see it, and you know what's the worst for that? I had that fire moving through me.
SPEAKER_02If you were white, no one would know. Who knows? Who knows? Anywho, that's my hate. For my hate, I hate when I have to be somewhere after a class, and I can't get out on time and then I'm late for work and then it is very, very stressful, especially like when you like pre-warn them too, and you're just like, hey, like I'd love to stay in chat, but I really can't. And then you have to stay in chat, and you're just like, but you can't like you want to be respectful. I'm so glad you're here, you know, but I'm also in a rush.
SPEAKER_01I know it's like running out the door, yoga teacher problems, especially for you because you're a busy woman and so you always got things going on. But that's totally valid.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Alright, you got any F Mary kills? I do what you got. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Boombox slash sneaker. Okay. AirPods or anything that goes in your ears. It doesn't have to be a specific brand. Okay. Or over-ear headphones. Non-specific brand.
SPEAKER_01I like my AirPods, so I'm gonna marry those. I'm probably gonna kill the over-the-ear headphones and F the speaker box. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yep, same, same, same. I tried to work out one time with over-ear muffs, and I think I just like sweat too much, and I was like, this isn't for me.
SPEAKER_01The over-ear, like, I wear a headset for work, and so I'm like, absolutely not. I wear those enough and I hate them. They hurt my ears after a while. I mean, I guess the pressure hurt your ears after a while, but that's true. Yeah. Okay, my FMKs are peppermint, rosemary, or grapefruit, meaning the essential oils. Okay. Again, it's peppermint, rosemary, and grapefruit. I gotta kill one.
SPEAKER_02Peppermint, rosemary, grapefruit. Okay. This is gonna be wild. I'm gonna kill grapefruit.
SPEAKER_00Really? Okay. You are I feel like you're definitely a peppermint girly.
SPEAKER_02I kinda am. But I don't know. Maybe I'll marry peppermint and fruit. Rosemary. Okay. Love the smell of rosemary. Love putting it in a simmer pot on a winter cold day.
SPEAKER_01Oh yes. And see, I think I have to kill peppermint. Mary rosemary and F grapefruit. Because rosemary, like I use rosemary for everything, not only just like with the essential oils, but like cooking too. Oh, rosemary, mashed potatoes, and steak.
SPEAKER_02Stop, I'm hungry.
SPEAKER_01I love rosemary.
SPEAKER_02Matt, go pick up a steak.
SPEAKER_01Also, like yeah, rosemary's just good for all sorts of stuff. It helps with like memory and stuff too, which I think is cool.
SPEAKER_02So oh yeah. And we use a lot of rosemary, like when it comes to like altar spaces and like um like work, little nature crafts and things.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. All right, sweet. Are we ready to get into our Dharma talk and to our our theme for I think so? Are you? Yeah, I'm ready. All right, you guys. Well, today we are talking about the solar plexus chakra, also known as a manapura in Sanskrit. Um, in case you're new and you're not sure what a chakra is, I'm just gonna do a brief overview. Um, we have seven main energy centers, also known as chakras, that receive, assimilate, and transmit energy. Um, and this helps just move that energy throughout our body so that we don't get stuck in one thing in particular. Um, today we're talking about the solar plexus, which is our third chakra and is located right behind the belly button. Um, this chakra is all about the inner fire, the sense of self. It's where our confidence, our power, and our self-worth live. Um, it also represents your personality, your ego, and your identity. Um, this chakra is the powerhouse that holds the key to activating your true, authentic, higher power, your worth, your potential. Um, it's also the center of your will and your confidence. Um this is also referred to pretty frequently as like your gut instinct, your gut feelings, which is so important because I feel like my gut has never led me astray. Um, and it's just the listening to those gut feelings. Um, we're also going to be talking about tapas, um, which in in yoga is our internal fire, which gives us the spark, that little internal drive to do really anything that it is that we're wanting to accomplish. Um, and once we've generated that internal fire, that tapas, um, this is the spiritual fire that burns through our blockages, through the things that we need to let go. Um, so someone who is balanced in their solar plexus chakra is going to have characteristics of mastery. So they'll have the ability to transform intention into reality. Um, they'll live deliberately and they create life with purpose. Um, they fulfill intentions with ease. Um, they also feel centered with their true self, they'll have a positive self-esteem and good sense of self-empowerment. Um, they are often in touch with their inner and highest self, and they are able to create personal power in a healthy way. And so that's how we ideally want to be living within the solar plexus chakra. But as we go throughout life, there's gonna be things that affect us. And if we if we don't work through those things, um they become blockages or just some stagnant energy that can get stuck in there. So um you can be excessive in this chakra or you can be deficient. So someone who's excessive in this chakra is going to have characteristics of controlling, dominating. They might be one of those people that are constantly active, like overworking, overworking out physically, mentally, emotionally. Um, they'll also have feelings that they are better than most people. So, like a higher than thou, worthier than thou attitude. Um, on the opposite side of that spectrum, um, someone who's deficient in this chakra is going to feel weak. They'll feel passive, tired, they'll have the feelings that they are less than most people. Um, they'll often be very sensitive to criticism, they don't respect themselves, and they don't really have a clear direction or purpose in their life, like a, you know, a goal that they're working toward. Um with our feminine and masculine energies here, the masculine is going to be the initiating, the willing, the making, the doing of it all. Whereas the feminine side is going to be the warmth of it, the dexterity, the skill, and the radiance. The color associated with this chakra is yellow. So to bring balance into this chakra, you can surround yourself with yellow things, you can meditate on the color yellow, you can use yellow crystals, you can eat yellow foods, anything yellow just to bring in that color into your life. The element associated with this chakra is fire. So our tapas are internal fire, and the principle is combustion. So if you think about the word combustion, it's that spark, that moment of ignite. Um, and that's that's what this solar plexus is. It's that it's that little spark, that life spark that gets us up and gets us going and helps us finish the task that's at hand. Um the purpose again of this chakra is to give you energy, strength, will, power, self-confidence, your identity, and emotional connection. The body parts associated with this chakra is going to be the ribs, adrenal glands, digestive organs, and the abdomen. In our physical yoga practice, um, you can tap into these energies by strengthening through will, um, also using the polarities that we talked about with our sacral chakra to create power through the balance of those, um, strengthening through the core, um, and then again, just balancing the practice of like will and surrender and finding the strength through the two of those. Um, specific poses associated that can you can practice to help balance or balance this chakra is going to be really any balancing poses because any balance requires core strength. Um, you can also any of the warriors worry one, two, and three, um, anything regarding the torso. So twists, plank, boat, um anything like that, that is just working. Um that core will help bring balance to this, to this area. Um, and we can't talk about the solar plexus without also talking about Udiana Banda. So, what is a bandha? Our bandha is our our energy locks in yoga. So they're just gentle muscle engagements that help support the body and they guide the energy to where we want it to go. Um, Udiyana Banda specifically is just a gentle drawing in and up of the lower belly. Um, when I instruct this in class, I instruct people to take a full inhale. You'll take a full exhale out of your mouth, and holding your breath without actually inhaling, you're gonna act like you are as you draw your belly button up towards your spine. You'll almost feel that gentle lock, and then you'll hold it and you'll release. So, why do we use Udiana Banda? So it's gonna help build the core strength and stability, so it strengthens those deep core muscles, um, which helps support the spine and helps support your posture. And also just practicing this, it builds that energy, it builds that internal fire, that tapas that we were talking about. Um, and and in doing so through that, it helps move the energy upward, um, which is what we're trying to do. We're trying to create that straight line from the base of our spine to the crown of our head so that that energy can move freely. Um, with Udiana Banda, if you want to practice, I highly encourage you to do so. You'll just hug your belly up and in towards your spine, you'll hold it for as long as you can and you'll release. And this is something that you kind of visually want to see as well. So I highly encourage you to look up on YouTube or Google wherever you want to search Udiana Banda, or you can just look up belly lock in yoga, um, and that should pull you up to the right things as well. Um, but this is just a really good way, it also helps like massage through the digestive organs, which helps improve digestion, and there's just so many good benefits. It helps increase your energy. I was telling my yoga students this morning that I like to do it when I'm on long car rides, like if I'm traveling somewhere and I'm like starting to get tired, I'm like, I'm gonna start working my Udiana Banda and I'm gonna practice because it's like immediately, it's like I have to use my focus. I'm using muscles that I'm not usually using, and I can do it sitting, you know. Um so I highly recommend you guys practicing Udiana Banda or your belly lock. Um, and you can look up any videos. On that as well. Another way that you can bring balance to the solar plexus chakra is going to be through affirmations, through intentions, through manifestation. The seed word for the solar plexus chakra is I can, because you can. You're capable. So it could be like I can achieve anything and put my mind to, I can create my own strength. And if you want to use that manifestation aspect, instead of being like I can, it's like I will or I am. I am anymph, I always have been an enough, and I always will be enough. Essential oils that you're welcome to use to balance this chakra is going to be bergamot, rosemary, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, and juniper. And there's there's more than that, but those are some of the key ones. The frequency sound associated with this chakra is going to be 528 Hertz. And this is thought to facilitate transformation and miracles at this frequency. The seed sound, um, so like chanting using the sound of the vibration of sound to help clear out this chakra is Rom. It is spelled R-A-M, but more so pronounced like Rum, the drink. Um, and we'll practice that here at the end of our meditation and we'll do the chanting a couple of times. Um, if chanting is intimidating to you, just know that you're not alone. It's like it can be really weird at first, but um, there's something about practicing these seed sounds, and I just highly encourage you to at least give it a try because once once you do it, you can feel it. You can feel the energy that it generates within your body. And the whole point of chanting the seed sound is just to release what needs to be released, to bring that vibration down to that solar plexus to release the things that are stagnant and stuck there so that the energy can move freely. Um, breath work that helps um wake up this energy of the solar plexus, is going to be our Kapalabati breath or skull shining breath. Um, I'll do a little round through it, but we're not gonna do the full practice. Um, I highly encourage you to take the time to do it. Usually, if you do like 20 breaths, take a moment to pause in between and just do three rounds of that, that's a good really experience to feel the energy moving within. Um, but kapalabati um is just a forceful exhale. So if you put your hand on your belly and you do a forceful exhale, your belly will press the butt a little bit and automatically you're you're inhaling without really inhaling, like trying to anyway. Um so as you exhale, you you pull your stomach, you pull the navel in back towards your spine. Um, and as you relax the navel and the abdomen, the breath flows into your lungs automatically. So I'm just gonna show you a little bit of what that sounds like. All right, and then you'll do that for 20 times. Uh, take a breath in between and then do it three times total, and you will feel that energy rise. And it's really simple. It's a simple breath work. You're just forceful exhale, not really trying to breathe in, but it automatically breathes in for you. Um, and this is just a really good way to also just wake up the body. It's a great way to clear the noddies of our energy channels, which will help clear out the chakras as well. Um, it's also really good to improve blood circulation. Um, and the reason why it's called skull shining breath is because they they talk about like people's foreheads when they practice this reading on this, about like people's like shiny foreheads, which sounds so funny. Um, but but it's uh it's known to add radiance to the face, just like through the circulation. Wait, I can totally see that.
SPEAKER_02And that's why they get the number.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the shining some ending is kind of funny. Um funny fact, I like that. But yeah, it just it's overall rejuvenates like the cells within the body. So it's a good thing to practice. Um, and just to wake up the energy, honestly. Like you you practice it through rounds and you're like, got like five degrees hotter in here.
SPEAKER_02That's what it was like today in our practice, actually. Absolutely. Like everything that we were doing between core engagement, breathing, and then like our our belly lock. Like, yep. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So for our practice today, we kind of went over, I mean, what we're talking about now. And then um, we took them through the the skull shining breath, had him start off with that just to get the energy moving, and then went into our warm-up, and I brought him into we practiced the Udiyamabamanda, the belly lock, and we did the traditional hold, we did the belly pulses, and then we tried and experimented with the belly rolls, which that's like really fun. So, again, I highly encourage you, look up a video because yeah, you can see what I'm talking about. Yeah, and it's really good for you, and it's fun to try. So, anywho, um, Britney, do you want to go ahead and take us into our note card activity? And then we'll go ahead and get started in the meditation afterwards.
SPEAKER_02Yes, so go ahead, get it your journal, note card, whatever you need to write this down, and we're gonna ask ourselves a couple of questions here. And the first question is what am I proud of for myself? So, what have you done that has made you proud of yourself?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, has there been a goal that you've achieved? Is there something in your life that you used to want that you have now?
SPEAKER_02And the second question you're gonna ask yourself, how would I show up if I believed in my worth? Again, how would I show up if I believed in my worth? What is that gonna look like for you? Are you gonna be your biggest cheerleader? And the last thing that we're gonna have you do is we're going to create a strong, empowering mantra. And so with the solar plexus, it's usually associated with I can. And so for I have a couple of examples here for inspiration. So you can write, I am confident in who I am, I can do hard things, I trust myself, I'm worthy of taking up space, my voice matters, I can be strong in difficult situations. I confidently show up as my authentic self. I'm aligned with my purpose and personal power. I radiate confidence and self-respect. I release self-doubt and step into my own power. So you can pause, you can keep going, um, write anything that is inspiring and how you want to show up for yourself this week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it can even like be specific. If there's like a sip like a difficult situation that you're going through right now, like be specific about it. I can get through this specific situation because I've done it before. Like every situation I've shown up and I've gone through. So be specific in what you want to achieve because you're capable of doing it.
SPEAKER_02Because you have defeated hard things before. Yes. But I get it, sometimes life tests us.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Oh, I don't think I went over before we get into the meditation, we didn't talk about the identity with the chakra. So the identity obviously is like this is your identity, this is who you are, but it's also the ego. And the ego gets a little bit of a bad rap because it can, you can get stuck in your ego and your ego can control you. But if you bring in the fluidity of what we learned with the sacral chakra and allow the fluid fluidity to move through your solar plexus, the ego can be very beneficial. It's it's who you are, it's how you show up to the world and to yourself. Um, on the opposite side of that, we also have the demon, which is shame. So if you're shameful about what you're doing, you're not gonna show up with confidence. You're not gonna show up as your authentic self because you're ashamed of what you're doing. So don't let shame get to you. Um, the ego can be good. And as long as it's used for good, you can, you know, absolutely. Um, but anywho, yeah, let's go ahead and get into our meditation. So if you guys want to go ahead and pause, grab whatever you need to get comfortable. Um, if you're in the space where you can lie down and close your eyes, I highly recommend that you do. Um, but we'll go ahead and get started here in just a moment. Start to settle into the space that you're in and bring your awareness to your breath, keeping the mouth closed and breathing in and out through the nostrils. Let your body become heavy, let the outside world begin to fade. Let go of any stress, tension, or anxiety, leaving the mind and body. Breathe in deeply and breathe out completely, feeling all tension dissolving, leaving your mind and body. Surrender deeper and deeper into each and every breath, allowing the cool wave of the inhale to clear your mind and the warm wave of the exhale to soften, melt, and relax deeper into the physical cells of your body. To your solar plexus. Feel the space rise and fall with your breath. This is where your power lives, your confidence. This is where your sense of self begins. With your next breath out, become conscious of the fire within your solar plexus. Noticing this flame ignite. Noticing the gentle burn of the flame. This spark within you, your truth, your power that has always existed. With each inhale, you feed that spark. And with each exhale, you let it expand. This flame begins to grow steady and alive. Feel its warmth spreading through your core, up into your chest, down into your hips, and through your entire body. Filling your body from head to toe. This is your fire, not the fire of the ego, but the fire of knowing of your identity. The fire that doesn't need to shrink to be accepted, that doesn't question its worth. The fire that is and will be. Maybe old stories that have attached themselves to you. Any self-doubt or fear or shame that you need to let go of. Let it all burn in this fire. You are not those things, you are not those labels. You are the energy underneath. Every cell feels alive, being fed with this powerhouse of the solar plexus energy. Maybe you put a gentle smile on your face as you meditate, feeling this soft, vulnerable yet powerful flame. Feel yourself sitting taller, breathing deeper. And knowing who you are, trusting who you are. Silently affirming to yourself, I am enough exactly as I am. Again, I am enough exactly as I am. Start to visualize this fire within, settling into a steady glow. Not yet burning through. But just a gentle flame. Always there, always glowing. It's a quiet strength that moves with you and guides you and supports you. That gives you that extra strength when you need it. That direction, that motivation, and that confidence when you need it. Let this visualization go. Take a deep breath in. And a full exhale out. Begin to return to your body and to the space that you're in. I want you to bring your palms together and start to rub your hands together, creating tension and making heat through the palms of your hands. Creating that warmth. And then placing your hands on your solar plexus. Letting the warmth of your hands move into this energy center. Releasing any final stagnant or heavy energy. When you're ready, you can release your hands. Gently open your eyes and come back to the space that you're in. Bring your palms together at heart center. Setting the intention here to bring balance to the solar plexus chakra. May you find confidence. And may you find the center of your will. From our heart to yours. Namaste.
