In this episode of The C-Section Healing Space, I talk about the emotional, energetic and spiritual side of C-section recovery that many women are never told about.

After having 3 C-sections in 5 years, including an unplanned C-section, a planned C-section and a VBAC attempt ending in surgery, I know firsthand that recovery is about far more than just physical healing.

In this video we talk about:
• Why your body can go into shock after C-section
• Why you may feel anxious, disconnected or hypervigilant
• The emotional impact of planned and unplanned C-sections
• Why your body may still feel “stuck” in the birth room
• Scar healing and emotional healing
• Nervous system healing after traumatic birth
• Gentle ways to reconnect with your body after C-section

I also share the 5-minute reconnection ritual I still use to this day to support healing after birth.

This is a calm, soul-deep healing space for women recovering physically, emotionally and energetically after C-section.

This is the most common question that I get. Why don't I feel like myself after C-section? C-section is not just physical, it's emotional, spiritual, and it's energetic. What you went through was massive. It was huge. It's not just birthing your baby, and it's not just birthing your baby under surgery. There is so much more that goes into that. Maybe you had your c-section and it was an emergency or it was unplanned. You weren't expecting that. You weren't expecting that. Maybe you did have a planned C-section, but yet didn't still didn't expect it to be the way it was. I had three C-sections in five years. My first was an unplanned that ended in a C-section. My second was planned, and my third was a V back attempt, vaginal birth after cesarean, that ended in a C-section. So all completely different experiences. And they are more than just physical. There is so much more to it. One of the top things is your body knows how to birth. Your body knows how to birth, so it knows what to do, and it's expecting to do that. That's what it's expecting to do. It's expecting to birth your baby vaginally because that's what it knows to do. And then it all stops. And so your body is kind of saying, Oh, like what's happening? Like what's what's happening? Because this we were doing this, and now we're not doing this, and it's completely changed. So your body has gone into like a shock, thinking, oh, like what are we doing? And then you have your C-section, and then you have your postpartum afterwards. And then normally that postpartum is a lot focused on the baby, not enough on you, but a lot on the baby. Your body hasn't caught up to where you're at now. It's still actually in the labour room where that change happened, whether it was planned or unplanned. So even when it's planned, your body doesn't isn't given any type of signal like, oh, we're not doing this, but it doesn't, it doesn't know that, so it's just expects that's what's gonna happen. So then when you get to the surgery room, your body's like, oh, like I didn't know, I didn't know we were doing this, and so it kind of goes into a high alert mode and it's in shock. So one of the reasons that you don't feel like yourself is because your body hasn't caught up, your body is still in that place of thinking something was gonna happen and it didn't. All of those hormones and all of the emotions, all the physicality that it was preparing for, because your body was preparing to birth that way, it's still like it's still there. Because it's like, oh well then, so what what do we do with what do I do with all of this? What do I do with all of the these feelings, emotions, hormones, like what happens? Because it doesn't just disappear, like it doesn't just go into thin air, it stays in your body, and then a lot of the time that's what causes your not feeling like yourself, feeling maybe you feel anxious, maybe you feel a bit more hyper-vigilant than you used to, uh maybe a bit more worried, maybe you feel like your emotions aren't the same, and it's because they're not, they are different, but there is a part of you that hasn't processed what's happened, especially physically. If you've heard of The Body Keeps the Score, uh the book, it's a really great book. It shows us that experiences that we have live within our bodies, they don't just disappear, and then they will play out in different ways, and that could be not bonding with your baby, not bonding with your partner, not feeling like yourself, maybe feeling a bit low or anxious, hyper-vigilant, just not yourself, and that's because those emotions are still stuck in the body, and because we've had c-sections, it's not like they're just they could be stuck like anywhere in the body, but they will they will be stuck in your scar. A lot of women have a lot of issues with their scar, like it takes a long time to heal. You would say around eight weeks is when you'd want your scar to be healed. But if your c-section was a traumatic c-section as well, it will be longer, and that's because there is emotion there as well as physical healing, because your body will begin to heal as soon as you're sewn up, because that's what the body knows to do. But when there are other elements at play, not just physical healing, but emotional, energetic, and spiritual healing, and not even knowing maybe that that's something that you need to do or knowing that that's an issue, that will be also slowing down your healing. And there is ways that you can support your healing. You can see in the description, I have a link. If you're based in the UK, I created a reconnection oil that will support you reconnecting with your body. It comes with the ritual that I still use to this day, five minutes every day that I connect with my scar, with my tummy, with my womb to facilitate that healing. So you don't have to not feel like yourself forever. And it doesn't matter where you are, whether your C-section was eight weeks ago or eight years or twenty years ago, you know, it's never too late to begin the healing. And also to know that you're not alone. You're not alone in this. I know a lot of women feel like they can't say how they feel or express how they feel because maybe someone will think they're a bad mum or a bad person or that they don't love their child, etc. So you kind of just keep it all in, but keeping it all in is also creating more dis-ease within your body and making that scar in tummy and reconnection more difficult for you. So let this be the start for you, I guess. Let this be the beginning of you reconnecting with your body. You can just take five minutes, you can lie down on your bed and just put your hands on your tummy, you can do it over clothes and just take five minutes and just breathe. Just breathe for five minutes and see what comes up. You then may want to journal or just note in your phone like what comes up afterwards, but that's the first step to reconnection is spending time with your tummy and your scar, and also deciding that you're not gonna shove down your feelings anymore and knowing that you're a good person, you're not a bad person, you're a good person. What you went through was traumatic, and nobody gave you the space to heal it. So that's why you're here. The C-section healing space. Like, comment, subscribe. I really want to grow this channel. I'm doing this channel because this is what I didn't have when I had my three C-sections. I couldn't find anything like this. I found a lot about physical healing. I didn't see anything about emotional, energetic, or spiritual healing. Because I I knew that there was more to it, that the feelings I was having, there was more to this. And I couldn't find it anywhere. And I know I'm not alone in that. So that's why I created the channel, and I want more women to find it. So also share. If you know a C section mom, share this with her too, so that she knows that she's not alone.
