No Country For Hot Girls
A weekly pop culture podcast hosted by Juliana Piskorz and Hannah Burles, born out of the world of Juliana Piskorz’s Substack “No Country For Hot Girls,” where conversations, cultural obsessions, and internet spirals first started taking shape.
Each week, the pair move between reliving the worst days of their lives, an unhealthy fixation on Liam Gallagher in Supersonic, and attempts to make sense of what is actually happening in pop culture right now, whether that is the life and work of David Hockney, why The Secret History is the best book ever written, or why all men are a bit gay.
That includes everything from Callum Turner’s wedding sunglasses and Bravo scandals to internet boyfriends, chaotic celebrity behaviour, and the kinds of cultural moments that feel both trivial and strangely significant.
Alongside the chaos, they share personal anecdotes from dating disasters to sobriety attempts, as well as the everyday absurdities of trying to be a functioning adult, like overthinking Pilates etiquette, being emotionally attached to Pinterest boards, and constantly questioning why any of this matters in the first place.
It is part group chat, part cultural commentary, and part ongoing conversation between two friends trying to make sense of the noise, usually while laughing through it.

4. Harry Potter Reboot, No Thanks
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
This week on Country for Hot Girls we attempt to recover from a cursed podcast recording fiasco (RIP to the lost Romantasy segment), and instead spiral into: wedding plus-one politics, Lena Dunham and Adam Driver lore, the aggressively unnecessary Harry Potter reboot, and why everyone is furious about Boston accents in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
There’s also Yung Lean’s incredible new music video, nostalgic Britney chat, Greek mythology tangents, and an important discussion about butterbeer.
A very chaotic episode. As always.
Hello, welcome back to the pod. Yeah. No country for hot girls.
SPEAKER_02Do you want to tell everyone what has happened?
SPEAKER_01Guy, we had a bit of a fiasco. We recorded about an hour and a half of Gold, only to re-listen to it and realize that the whole thing was basically echoing. So it sounded like you were in the hall of mirrors.
SPEAKER_02It was absolute like nonsense. And we were both not feeling our best. And I feel like it was maybe the universe doing its thing and telling us.
SPEAKER_01I think it's the universe. You've missed out on 35 minutes of romanticy. Um which I'm sure you're very, very upset about.
SPEAKER_02Which we're now gonna save for September. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01You're in luck, everyone. Energy was low yesterday.
SPEAKER_02When I got a text from Jules saying bad news, we've got to record again. Can you do today? I was like, oh my.
SPEAKER_01And you were like, wasn't it quite good though? Didn't we lose quite a lot of the good stuff? And I was like, I don't know how to break this to you, Han. It wasn't that good. I was like, we both sound like downcast and we're witnessing.
SPEAKER_02The message was it wasn't that good, Han. I was oh god.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, it wasn't our best. No, very nice. And you know what? Fine.
SPEAKER_02We go again.
SPEAKER_01It's fine. No romanticity for today. Everyone's can breathe a sigh of relief.
SPEAKER_02That was hectic. Like when that was happening, I was like, we're not making any sense. Talking about like dragons and fairies and all the rest of it.
SPEAKER_01So it's Shagging, Shagging dragons, and then my new shy of the bay world. Um that needs to be its own episode because there's no way we're gonna fit it in with other people.
SPEAKER_02So we maybe need like a structure because we were kind of bouncing all over the place. We got too excited, we were like, but the story, and then yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_00Zaydan and Rhysand and how can I forget Castile?
SPEAKER_01Sorry, these are all the um some of the romancy bad boys that me and Hannah have fancied over the last few months. Months. Anyway, anyway. Months, years, we digress.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so we thought that maybe we would do a little segment each week. That was his commander update. Um, because it's still like going on quite intensely. Um it's mostly around West in the fact that first of all, he's he got his nudes leaked, which is so crazy and so violating. Like I actually feel so bad for him. But you said it was like he was on a podcast and he was like, It's the sick worst piece of news I've had today. And I was like, Oh my god, the poor guy.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, he's done some shady things, but no one deserves that. We have cast our eyes over the nudes, and we are we're fairly certain that one of them looks doctored, which I'll let I'll let your imaginations do the rest. In a in a negative way, not in a positive way. In a negative way, yeah. I think someone's done him dirty with um the AI editor.
SPEAKER_02I actually just can't can you believe imagine someone doing that to you? Like obviously, there's like such a big um issue with like deep fakes, but obviously it's always usually women, and I just can't even imagine how like one must feel. Um, so I do feel kind of bad for him. And then I also felt bad for him because I read on D Moi today, maybe, that um he has a friend's wedding in like South Carolina, and he apparently asked if Amanda could be his plus one, and they revoked his plus one because of the drama.
SPEAKER_01I'm not being funny though. I think that's a good idea. Because can you imagine if that you're just average Joe blogs, you're having your wedding, you know, you've got Karen here and Joe over here, and then suddenly you've got the paparazzi and your whole wedding becomes a news story. No, when you put it like that, I actually hadn't thought about it like that.
SPEAKER_02That is incredibly true. I guess I was just thinking, like, imagine like your friend, like being like, no, like you can't come with anyone. I don't know how people have done that. Well, I was gonna say, like, in England, like plus ones aren't really like a thing for that's quite American, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, I mean, it's like wildly expensive. It's like, yeah, sure, like bring someone, I don't mind, like I'll just put on another 300 pounds to the budget.
SPEAKER_02That's crazy, isn't it? Like bring some random person that you don't know.
SPEAKER_01So, well, some people bring friends, and I'm like, surely not. Like, where's this where's all the money coming from? No, it would be quite fun if we all just see each other's plus ones all the time. But yeah, it just seems like really profligate.
SPEAKER_02Do you know what I mean? Yeah, no, it's a it's a strange like thing that Americans do. I mean, maybe English people do it, maybe maybe the rich do it.
SPEAKER_01But I feel like it was one of those things that people used to do when weddings weren't like the met gala. Do you know what I mean? Like when when it was just like a nice day out in your garden.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01It's like, yeah, bring your plus one. The steep is high then. Yeah, whereas now it's like we're in Naples, we're in Venice. Someone's got an ice sculpture of their dad's dick or something.
SPEAKER_00Do you know?
SPEAKER_01Is he not that? Over Wesley.
SPEAKER_02Nudes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like, are they gonna follow the dress code mood board? Like, do you know what I mean? How are you supposed to know if you can trust that person if if you don't know then?
SPEAKER_01Well, my mum always tells this story that to this day she has not let go. But at her wedding, one of my dad's best friends brought his then girlfriend, who apparently was a bit of a controversial figure within the group. No one really liked her. They thought she was a bit of a to quote gold digger. The guy she was dating was like a physio. So I don't know what kind of gold he was she was digging for, but anyway. And apparently she arrived at the wedding on and out the men in the group. Exactly, exactly. But apparently she just rocked up without being invited, and my mum to this day has not forgotten.
SPEAKER_02That is c that is crazy. You wouldn't forget.
SPEAKER_01It's quite bold.
SPEAKER_02You would that would be ingrained in your mind forever.
SPEAKER_00Would you ever do that?
SPEAKER_02Just rock up. Oh my god, no, you would have to be crazy to do that.
SPEAKER_01It would be quite funny though. It would be better if you couldn't do it if you knew anyone, but you could do it if you knew no one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's different though. That is wedding crashes.
SPEAKER_01That would be fun. We should do that one day. We should do that. We actually kind of had that when we were in Milan. We were walking past this bar, me and Maya and Mike. Um, and there was like, it just looked like a vibe. So we sauntered in, we went to the bar, we ordered ourselves in a Negroni, and this like Italian 21-year-old came up to us and was like, Are you here for the party? And we were like, No. And he was like, Well, go! And we were like, What? And he was like, It's a private event, get out!
SPEAKER_00And we were like, Oh god, okay, bye. Um, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was our like bit of gossip because the rest is um highbrow. Yeah, really highbrow, but got the goss out of the way.
SPEAKER_01Actually, more goss, not related to us, but um, so I finally finished Fame Sick. Oh yeah. And I am shook. Like you obviously I know you're gonna read it, so I don't want to ruin it. Yeah, but I did listen to it, and you know what I'm like with audiobooks. Were you on like two times speed? No, I'm just like not sleeping till 5am. Oh, right, yeah, I shouldn't sleep done. Um, oh my god. Okay, so just tiny little bits of tea. Adam Driver is sounds like a complete nut job. So not only was he kind of throwing stuff around on set, he like didn't speak to her for the whole of the sixth series of girls. From the very first audition that he walked in, apparently his agent came running up to them and was like Talina Dunham. She's like 23 at this point as well, which is insane. She'd literally never had a job, like she'd been like a babysitter.
SPEAKER_02Also, wasn't she just supposed to like write it? Like, and they were like, You would be perfect for Hannah.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it's actually so interesting. Because you know, I obviously am writing my own script, so it's really interesting hearing about the process because obviously you watch girls and you're like, Oh my god, this is like the most genius piece of writing. She obviously just like is a genius that like created this and that was that, but it's so interesting how there were so many hurdles, so many things went wrong, and it's not just a figment of her imagination, like it's very much based on people she knew. So Hannah is very much an exaggerated version of her. Uh Jessa was obviously Jemima Kirk, who was like her childhood friend. Um, Marnie is based on her best friend Audrey, who actually fell out with Arthur. Yeah, I didn't know that. And then Shoshana wasn't a character until she auditioned for Marnie or something, and then they loved her audition so much that they were like, we're gonna write her in as her own character, which I thought was so interesting.
SPEAKER_02I didn't know that. Also, did my friend Audrey fall out because Marnie was like the worst person in the world?
SPEAKER_01I mean, probably that, but she also talks about how, like, over the years, like when she became famous, quite a lot of her friends basically started not inviting her to stuff anymore. And I think because she was always so busy with girls, I think six months of the year she was writing, filming, and then the other sort of five months she was in LA editing, so she was never around, she missed birthdays, and I think they just all got really fed up with her. Yeah, um, but it was so so interesting hearing her talking about Adam because Adam was based on a guy Lena was shagging just before girls, and he was apparently this 40-year-old guy, and she thought he was really cool, but he had a girlfriend and would only shag her like in an alleyway outside, and he was just a massive dick. He was into like BDSM, and she at the time had like really low self-esteem and kind of went along with it. And so Adam was basically a version of this guy that she was shagging, and it's so interesting because Adam Driver came and did this audition, and at this point, he's an unknown actor. I think he'd only been in like community theatre. Yeah, apparently he'd been in the military before he decided to go into acting, and his agent came in and was like, Whatever you do, don't ask him about the military, like already before he's even sat down. So it's already kind of weird. It's like, why? Like, what's he gonna do? Um, and then transforms into this really animalistic Adam, and they're all kind of blown away, and they're like, Okay, this is so interesting what he's done with the role. And then at the end of the audition, they kind of go to speak to him, and apparently he just walked out, didn't say a word to anyone, just walked straight out the door. So strange. Anyway, so obviously he's cast. They do the first pilot episode, and you know that scene that's like really iconic, that first sex scene between him and Hannah, where they're kind of on the sofa, he's like pulling down her tights and he's like flipping her around. So they go to film this scene, and Hannah had never, sorry, not Hannah Lena had never said, like, I want this to be like kind of fucked up. But Adam Driver was kind of channeling this character, knowing that he was kind of a bit weird, he was a bit like into BDSM. So he starts flipping Lena around. She'd also barely acted. I think she'd acted once in her short film. So she was freaked the fuck out. She also just had like this tiny thong on and apparently had this plaster over her asshole. And was like, she was like, I didn't feel violated, but like I was really kind of in shock. He was like chucking her around, like doing what.
SPEAKER_02It was not supposed to happen. Is that like him improvising?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so he fully improvised, and apparently, so they called cut. And Lena was like shell-shocked and was like, Oh my god, that was so intense and like a bit weird. Like, I feel kind of a bit strange about that. And then they look at everyone behind the monitor, and all of the people filming are like, oh my god, that was amazing. That was so different, that was so raw. And so they were like, Okay, well, I guess that worked. Well, let's just go along with it. Anyway, and then after that, it was his birthday that day. So they go to change and Lena gets this cake out that everyone from the set is gonna go and basically present him with the cake. And they come out and he's just fucked off. He just left. Apparently, someone told him there's gonna be a cake, and he was like, I hate my birthday, I don't want cake, and just stormed out the door. Oh my god. It's just weird like miserable fuck. I know, and then this is the craziest bit. So they kind of get a bit closer as the series continues. She's always trying to get his his approval and his validation, which he's like very sparse with giving out. And then one week she ended up basically getting quite ill, and he comes over and he's sort of checking on her in the evenings. And then on the final evening, he texts her and he's like, I'm gonna come round, but tonight I'm not gonna go home after. And she's like, Oh my god, that means we're gonna fuck. Yeah. She was kind of like, I'm intrigued, like I do find him attractive.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was gonna say, like, did she fancy him or yeah?
SPEAKER_01I think she did. They had like a connection, I guess also because they were so close in the in the show. Um, and so he comes around, he's on his motorbike, she sees him through the window, and then in this moment of clarity, she's like, If I let him up, this is gonna fuck our like working relationship. Also, he but bearing in mind, he's also in a long-term relationship, by the way. So he's not single. Right. So she doesn't let him in, he drives off. Then a week later, she doesn't hear from him. A week later, he texts her, going, I just got engaged. Um, just realized like I need my like missus around to like keep me in line. He's still married to this woman.
SPEAKER_02So this is the same person.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I I Googled it and I was like, I wonder what the fuck this woman's gonna make of this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because that's like basically attempted adultery.
SPEAKER_02So what's the attempted adultery? So what's the like what's the gist that he is not a nice person? Like, is that what we're saying? Or because he's made out and to be a bit of like an anti-hero in the show.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like the last day that they finish filming, so season six, he barely speaks to her, apparently. She just gets the vibe that he hates her, and she just doesn't know why. Like, she's never done anything to him.
SPEAKER_02Like he finds her really is the attempted adultery that happened um before season six.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's at the end of season one when she's like editing it. Then, like, four years go by, he's married now. Like he finds her annoying. She's starting to get really ill, like, quite a lot. So production's being held up, like she's going through some really fucking awful shit, and she get keeps getting called back to set, like a day after surgery, like a day after all of these really intense things. Um, so she he just doesn't speak to her for the whole of series six. She doesn't understand why. They wrap the final episode and then they have this emotional scene where she's actually in real life broken her elbow but had to like stay on set. She's like in agony. Then they finish, get dropped off home, and he's living literally in real life opposite her, on the opposite side of the street. She can literally watch him watching TV in his house. They get out of the car and she's like, Listen, I'm sorry if I did anything to you, like to offend you over the years, but like, thank you so much for everything. And he just gives her a hug and he's like, It happened the way it was meant to happen. Thank you so much. I'll always have love for you. And then he just never spoke to her again, ever.
SPEAKER_02Was it like a gradual airing from him? Or was it just cut off? No, but as in I mean, like from season two to six. Oh, I think it was a gradual airing, yeah. He does seem like that kind of person, but I don't really know what that kind of person is. But you know, someone that's kind of like a bit of an oddball. Yeah, and I guess just living in their own world. Um and nothing else really matters or how the people feel. I think it's good she didn't let him up. Yeah, 100%. I wanted I want to talk about all the reboots. Yeah. You put these all onto our Google Doc, and it was always had like a no thanks next to it. It was like Harry Potter reboot, no thanks. Lord of the Rings reboot, no thanks. Malcolm and needle reboot, no thanks. I was like, okay, she's got something to say. Um but to yeah, to start with the Harry Potter one, like what is going on? Why do we need that? You don't need it. Leave it alone.
SPEAKER_01Did you know how much they're paying? How much is estimated it's gonna cost? No, okay, it's insist. So for the whole Harry Potter series, they estimate that it's gonna cost them five point six billion pounds. That is dollars.
SPEAKER_02That's literally disgusting to tell a story that's already been done well, it just and it just doesn't need to be told. Like, I just feel like there are so many other stories by talented authors who also um aren't insane and transphobic who could have their story told for like one percent less than that, like production value. Yeah, why why are they doing it? Like for what for what gain? I guess like just because they know it's gonna sell. But it's really sad that that's just what we do. We just like the world is so like about capitalism that like you just reproduce the same old shit and don't give way to anything new or creative. Where's our Avatar program? Where's our fourth wing show? Like, come on, guys.
SPEAKER_01Just for context, all eight original films came to £1.2 billion uh dollars. So that's like what five times that? What are they even spending it on? Like how they've they've had to build a mini city in Leaveston. In Leaveston, Harry Potter World, I've been. So by did you have the butterbeer?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01You didn't try butterbeer.
SPEAKER_02I don't really remember it being there.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, Han, that was the highlight. I don't remember. Basically, it just tasted like a shandy but with no elk.
SPEAKER_02Oh, boring.
SPEAKER_01That was the thing I always wanted to taste more than anything. The warming bubbles of butterbeer.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it sounded so invocative, didn't it?
SPEAKER_01Um, chocolate frogs, that sounded quite nice.
SPEAKER_02Chocolate frogs, every flavour butter beans. Is that what they were called?
SPEAKER_01Bertie Bertie bots every flavoured beans. Um, and also what was it that um Harry, was it maybe Ron really liked uh it was like a treacle target.
SPEAKER_02I don't know, but I remember when I used to listen to the audiobook to fall asleep, which I don't actually do now. I never thought that day would come, but alas, it has outgrown. Yeah. Um there was like one chapter of I think it was like book six where um Dumbledore's dropped off Harry at the Weasley House, and she's making um she gives him the barrow. Yeah, she gives him like it's oh it's the way Stephen Fry reads it as well, but it's like a bowl of leek and onion soup or something, and I was like, oh, it sounds really good, even though it's just like leek soup. Yeah. Um but aren't there some crazy people playing some crazy characters? I do have a lot of people. You say Belle Powell was playing Aunt Petunia, yeah. Belle Powell because she is our age.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she's literally I mean, she's a year older, but still. I'm sorry. Aunt Petunia is very much in middle age, and Belle Powelly is like a stunning child, basically. She's a child actress, she's a child actress like us. We should report them, and um, and that actor Papa Esiedu. Um, he's Snape, apparently. So young as well. He is so young. I think he oh, he's 35. Still, that's really young. No, that's so Again another another child actor.
SPEAKER_02He was at school with Harry's parents.
SPEAKER_01Wait, I'm actually really quite offended. Why have they decided to make all of the old washed-up characters in their 30s? Like, what what cut what comment is this?
SPEAKER_02I don't know, but also the same movie Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy. Like, what is going on?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like okay, Johnny Flynn, a little bit older, but still very much in his pride.
SPEAKER_02How old is he? He doesn't look that old.
SPEAKER_01I want to say he's like 40 something.
SPEAKER_02Johnny's like no one's gonna be like Jason Isaacs, you know?
SPEAKER_01100% completely agree. No one's gonna be better than Michael Gamben. No, Richard Harris. Yeah. So yeah, John Lithgow is just he's not, he hasn't got the cosiness of Dumbledore.
SPEAKER_02No, but also American.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of American accents on film, there's been a bit of a controversy. Yes. Just for Nolan's The Odyssey. So Han knows I'm a big fan of Greek myths. I would say they're my top five favorite things. Greek myths.
SPEAKER_02I'm just gonna say that's a um understatement.
SPEAKER_01Well, apart from Harry Potter, that used to be both of our bedtime listening, wasn't it? It was Stephen Fry reading either Harry Potter or Stephen Fry reading Nythos. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Or hero. I do love a Greek myth as well, but you just retain information like so amazingly. God or goddess, you know the story of. Like, I don't even know what anything about Odysseus Odysseus, Odysseus, Odysseus. Odysseus. Odysseus. You do know about Odysseus, don't you? I know that this story is about him and that something about the Trojan War, but um, he goes off on some kind of crazy journey, no.
SPEAKER_01Basically, after the Trojan War, someone rapes someone in a holy temple, and then the Greeks are punished. Hey, honestly. Yeah, yeah. So, anyway, so the Greeks are prevented from leaving basically for a really long time. Oh, I think it's because they they sack Troy so badly. The gods see it as like an affront, and they see it as like the Greeks need to be punished, they're not allowed to basically get back to their homeland or Whatever. And so Odysseus, for some reason, he specifically has a curse on him. So anyway, it takes him like I think 10 years to get back to Ithaca, which is where he originally comes from, where his wife Penelope is waiting for him with his now 20-year-old son Telemachus. And so it's like him.
SPEAKER_02The guy who's trying to marry Penelope.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, these suitors who are in Ithaca who are like, you know, he's dead. Like all of the other Greeks have got home already. They want to marry Penelope because she's the princess, she's got money, whatever. And horrible suitors are basically pressuring her and like taking over the castle and eating all of her food and basically making a massive mess. But anyway, Christopher Nolan has decided to take on this huge classic. Some people say it's not just a story, it's the original story. So it's obviously a big undertaking. Um, but he's chosen to mean as in like the original mess. So it's like Homer's writing this story, but it's like the first ever kind of adventure story, you know, like it's a journey, it's like all of this stuff is happening. Okay, okay, okay, got you. But he's chosen to cast Matt Damon as Odysseus, which I have reservations about. But anyway, you've got loads of celebrities like Charlie's Theron, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Tom Holland. But there's been a hoo-ha because they've released the trailer a couple of days ago and all of the characters are speaking in an American accent, but not just an American accent, a Boston accent.
SPEAKER_02But they did this for Gladiator and it didn't like it didn't work.
SPEAKER_01Ultimately, it doesn't mean anything, but people have come to associate like a British accent with like a sort of antiquated exoticism. So like if you're watching a film in America and you hear old-fashioned British accents, you think of it as a period thing, a world that you don't know about. Whereas if it's like a Boston accent, you could be outside McDonald's, like it's a bit less sort of romantic, I guess. Another thing that people are up in arms about is the jargon and the lexicon is like very modern. So at one point, Tom Holland is being like, We will find my dad, and people are like, What the hell? Like, why is he speaking like this? Which I'm not gonna lie, upset me. Yeah, come on, guys, dad. Yeah, like at least whip out a father. Do you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just chuck one father in there. Yeah, um, but yeah, have you seen Young Lean's new music video?
SPEAKER_01I have, and I was blown away.
SPEAKER_02The iconography is like amazing, it was insane.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so Young Lean's new music video for his songs Storm One and Storm Two, so it's two songs in one, and it's directed by Dua Lipa's ex, who is also now apparently going out with Emrata, Romaine Gavra. So it's based in boarding school in Leeds in 2034, and it's basically Young Lean is like the school bully, and he's just up to no good in the school. I don't know, it's just so cool. And then the second half of the video is the second song, and it's him surrounded by all of these dancers dressed in school uniform, black and white school uniform, arranged as if they're taking a school picture, like on those benches.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, on those like steps that you would, or benches, yeah, that you would all like at different tiers like have to have to stand on. And he's just still, and everyone else is like moving around him, but like it's honestly so beautiful. It looks it's honestly so amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because they're dance the dancers dancing in this incredible way where they're kind of all in sync, and the black and the white is kind of moving around from their uniforms that it looks like some kind of optical illusion.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't really know much about like the album or the like you know what sort of the relevance of the songs are. I don't know if you do. I don't. I wish I did, but I don't. We we'll research that one next time. Um yeah, but I did see some someone described it as like because it's storm one and storm two in the same video. Storm one is like chaos and storm two is control, like running around the like college and stuff like that to to use that very like formed like dancing and choreography.
SPEAKER_01The choreography was by um Damien Gillet for like he needs he needs a mention. Me and you were talking, weren't we, about like are um music videos even relevant anymore? And I guess to some extent they're not, but but to be fair, I wouldn't have heard this song had it not been for this video.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, you're so right actually. Like there's not really I guess when do I watch music videos? Like only really when someone it's someone I know and like want like I'm expecting like to hear the next track of a new album or something. Never really that I just like stumble across it, which to be fair I didn't for this one. Obviously, like it was everywhere, but I guess it shows like a music video um has to be like shared around quite excessively now to be picked up by someone who like I don't really know that much of Young Lean stuff. Um do you know what I mean? Like I would only probably only go seek out a music video of my own accord if it's like an artist that I am following.
SPEAKER_01I guess it does show though the power of a fucking sick music video. If it was average, like we wouldn't have heard of it. But the fact that it's so good, like people are talking about it, it's like Berghein, Rosalie's Bergheim. I don't really watch music videos anymore, but I sort that out because everyone was saying how incredible it was. Um but what's your favourite music video? Can you think more time?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, oh my god. Um well I feel like all the Britney ones had a real impact on me, but obviously that was when we were so young. So of course they were going to The Lucky One and Oops, I did it again. I was like on it one more time, they were so good, and and Christina Aguilera, probably all of the Lutties like pop stars, really.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So I wrote a couple of lists that I thought were quite groundbreaking. Do you remember the tattoo, the lesbian kissing scene?
SPEAKER_02I do, I do. That was in that episode of Heated Rivalry that I've told you to watch. But like the most iconic use of that song that I can explain. Honestly, it makes it honestly honest, like it was so good. And I've rewatched the like 30-second clip about a million times.
SPEAKER_01Um, smack my bitch up, prodigy. As I wrote that down, I was like, oh my god, what a rude title. I never thought about it before. That's so aggressive.
SPEAKER_02I don't even know if I've seen that video. That's so bad.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you would. You would. It's with him with the spikes in his hair, and he's like leering into the camera and it's like strobe lighting, and they're going like, Smack my bitch uh okay, I don't need to sing it, but you know what I'm saying? George Michael Freedom.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, of course, that was amazing.
SPEAKER_01Um, Every Madonna and Bound to Kanye West. I thought that was quite good because it was quite controverse.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was. Was that the one with Kim on his bike?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's kind of a shit music video because nothing happens. But like it's it was quite iconic, like it really made a stir.
SPEAKER_02Um, I this isn't based on that, it's based on Madonna. I started listening to uh that album. Um what was it called? Oh, Confessions on a Dance Floor. It kind of came out 2005, and I remember like being quite obsessed with it when it came out. Hits so good. Like every song is such a banger. It's honestly like amazing. Yeah, I would highly recommend going back to listen to it.
SPEAKER_01Um I'm gonna do that. Um, okay. Well, I think we need to wrap up. Um, what are your recommendations?
SPEAKER_02I went to see Sirat at the Courtold yesterday, which was amazing. It's really small expedition, it's only two rooms, but and it closes next week, but it's all his seascapes. I think he did like 45 artworks in his whole lifetime. He died at 31. Um, and 31 of them were seascapes, which is quite crazy. They were all around like the Normandy coastline. Um, and he also only sold three artworks in his whole life.
SPEAKER_01Really? I can't. Do you know what did he die of? Do you know?
SPEAKER_02Um, no, but I can find out. Oh, he died of diphtheria. Diphtheria meningitis or angina. It was really good.
SPEAKER_01All right, well, I think let's wrap this up. Do you know I'm okay? Fine. My recommendations are read fame sick and eat some almond butter because it's very good to have just before you go to sleep. Although I've been eating the whole pot, so that's not good. Anyway, I think that's it. Okay, bye.
