No Country For Hot Girls
A weekly pop culture podcast hosted by Juliana Piskorz and Hannah Burles, born out of the world of Juliana Piskorz’s Substack “No Country For Hot Girls,” where conversations, cultural obsessions, and internet spirals first started taking shape.
Each week, the pair move between reliving the worst days of their lives, an unhealthy fixation on Liam Gallagher in Supersonic, and attempts to make sense of what is actually happening in pop culture right now, whether that is the life and work of David Hockney, why The Secret History is the best book ever written, or why all men are a bit gay.
That includes everything from Callum Turner’s wedding sunglasses and Bravo scandals to internet boyfriends, chaotic celebrity behaviour, and the kinds of cultural moments that feel both trivial and strangely significant.
Alongside the chaos, they share personal anecdotes from dating disasters to sobriety attempts, as well as the everyday absurdities of trying to be a functioning adult, like overthinking Pilates etiquette, being emotionally attached to Pinterest boards, and constantly questioning why any of this matters in the first place.
It is part group chat, part cultural commentary, and part ongoing conversation between two friends trying to make sense of the noise, usually while laughing through it.

9. The Royal Wedding, Taylor Swift Rumours + Bimbo Stoicism Explained

This week on the No Country for Hot Girls podcast, we spiral through a very unhinged week of celebrity news, viral culture moments, and questionable life decisions.
We break down the endless stream of celebrity weddings dominating the internet, from Dua Lipa and Callum Turner’s wedding rumours to Taylor Swift speculation and Sienna Miller’s engagement, before detouring into why the entire internet is currently obsessed with A-list relationships and overanalysing every detail.
Elsewhere, we get into hot Australian musicians in London, questionable wellness advice about food and ageing, and the rise of “bimbo stoicism” as the latest TikTok aesthetic redefining femininity and self-image.
In between the pop culture chaos, we revisit a disastrous Croatia trip involving acid paranoia, sea diving, and stepping on sea urchins, debate kale conspiracies and polyphenols, and spiral into everything from David Hockney’s legacy to why everyone is suddenly getting married except us.
It’s chaotic, slightly hungover, and occasionally profound in the worst possible way.
New episodes every week of No Country for Hot Girls.
Welcome back, ladies and gents. You're at the No Country for Hot Girls podcast. This week we've got an absolutely jam-packed and slightly, I don't want to say chaotic, that's a little bit too damning, but put it this way, I wouldn't say there's a huge amount of um of structure this week, but that's completely fine, guys. You know, life is messy, so yeah, there you are. But we've got hot Australian musicians, we've got Dewa and Callum's wedding, we've got Taylor and Swift's wedding. Oh god, Taylor and Swift's Taylor Swift's wedding, Sienna Miller's. We've got loads of weddings, guys. We've got fucking weddings coming out of our ears this week. We talk about our disastrous trip to Croatia where me and my friend hurled ourselves in the sea to escape a tab of acid that was flying through the air. We talk about bimbo stoicism. Sto- Oh god, I can't even say it. Bimbo Stoicism. We get a bit emotional about David Hockney. Also, is Kale actually nice? My vote is no. Also, I listened to this TikToker the other day who's basically saying the more polyphenols you eat, the more your skin's gonna age. He was basically like, you can't eat anything dark and leafy, which is pretty much the opposite of all advice we've ever heard ever. And he was like, if you eat an apple, you have to basically shave off the skin, which just seems just too much effort. But anyway, long story short, he was like, If you wanna look young forever, stop eating vegetables. Um, I don't know why I'm talking to you about that, but just it was on my mind, guys. I've been getting a bit paranoid about these fine lines that are coming off my forehead, but anyway, stay tuned for a fantastic pod. We are a little bit weary and a bit hungover in this episode, so yeah. If there's a slightly lower vibe today, then that's quite anyway. Love you guys.
SPEAKER_00Bye. Hello, you've reached No Country but Hot Girls Podcast. We can't come to the phone right now because we have better things to do.
SPEAKER_02My brother lived in Vietnam for five, six years, got a cat out there, he's come back to London, didn't know if he's gonna stay in London, but basically gave his cat to his friend to look after. It's not working out because his friend has another cat, they're not getting along. So he's basically having to think about shipping her over. But he's staying with my parents at the moment, and my parents have refused to have accommodate the cat.
SPEAKER_01Fair enough.
SPEAKER_02Fair enough. We had one cat growing up, and I think it was just enough for them.
SPEAKER_01Umite.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he was a clinically obese cat. He weighed a half stone.
SPEAKER_01It was the fattest cat I've ever seen in one.
SPEAKER_02It was so fat, and I think they were just like, we just can't do this again. Um, they don't know what went wrong.
SPEAKER_01So they're not like overfeeding marmite.
SPEAKER_02No, they weren't. And they let we like put him on a diet, like everything, nothing worked. So um was he just not getting his steps in? I don't know. He definitely wasn't getting his steps. He was so lazy. He was so I was like, look at this gorgeous city that you could be running freaking, and he would just like lie in like a cardboard box somewhere.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's so funny. But I find how the concept of house cats so weird. Like, I don't be house cats.
SPEAKER_02The reason I've not got a cat is because I don't like the idea of a cat not being able to go outside and I'm on a top floor flat. We do have a garden, but there's no way for it to get there. Do you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it just seems kind of cruel, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_02Especially like, did you ever watch that programme like called like the secret lives of cats?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02No, there's absolutely no way you would have watched that. Um, but they put trackers on cats and like at night they just like they would go like miles away from their houses. Um so I'm like they want to be out and about, but obviously in Vietnam it had to be a house cat because they were in like tall apartment blocks, so this would have this cat would have to be a house cat. So it would work quite well here, but anyway, TBC.
SPEAKER_01Well, touch your head, touch your word for you. Um yeah, I'm tired. I'm so tired. What the hell's new roused me out of bed at 8 30 on on a quite medium-sized hangover? I'm still asleep.
SPEAKER_02And this was the first week you just didn't.
SPEAKER_01Um so did you say you went to the pub in the forest yesterday?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, kind of, but just the pub near uh Hollywood in London. Yeah, what did you do?
SPEAKER_01I went to the Duke Duke of Wellington and then we went to Ellie's. Um loads of Hendus, actually. There in Ellie's, there was loads of women in these like massive penis hats.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01I know there were these like furry hats that was like actually almost like too graphic, like the texture wasn't necessary. Do you know?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like it was quite intense.
SPEAKER_02Um I don't think I've ever seen a furry penis hat.
SPEAKER_01No, neither have I, and like frankly, I never want to again. Um, but it's such a funny crowd, I feel like. It's like half the people think they're really cool, and then there's like pendus with penis hats, and then there's like a million Australians.
SPEAKER_02Ah, the Australians have got them.
SPEAKER_01No, but it was really funny because I was this one guy who was um in a band, he was really hot actually. I like commandeered a lighter from him, it was obviously accosting.
SPEAKER_02Your go-to line.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but I did actually need one, but anyway, it was. My poor voice.
SPEAKER_02I'm a husk about like if you're single, you need something and smoking is the only thing.
SPEAKER_01I know, but it's like I'm getting wrinkles by the day.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, but you would have landed someone, so it's fine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's so true.
SPEAKER_02They'll love you anyway.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like hopefully they just love me for my haggard face.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Um, yeah, no, but he was really hot and he was like here on tour, which I just always think is so funny.
SPEAKER_02Wait, so did you have a like actual chat with him?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, yeah. Well, he was really into the chat. So we were chatting about um, I was like, so like, you know, do you like England? Like all all the union.
SPEAKER_02But was he Aussie?
SPEAKER_01He was literally from Melbourne, but they were on tour, but he was really hot.
SPEAKER_02Literally from Melbourne. Can you believe it?
SPEAKER_01He was a real life Australian in the flesh. I was like, alright.
SPEAKER_02I don't know why you're so shocked. Yeah, yeah, why why are you in Stoke Newington? That's weird. I know. I used like lost.
SPEAKER_01I was like, so like do you like it? And he was like, Yeah, it's alright, it's all right. And I was like, Oh, okay, just alright. And he was like, Well, you know, I prefer Europe, and I was like, Oh, do you are we are in Europe, actually? I was like, I mean, me and you both, but like, what's so great about Europe? And he was like, you know, everyone's just friendlier and it's you know just more attractive. And I was like, wow, okay, I feel attacked, but also like here's my number. Um, no, but I tried, I was like, okay, I'm gonna do a Maya and give this guy my number on a napkin. Um, but then just as I was about to whip out my pen, my trusty pen that I gave on me at all times, this girl turned around to him and was like, We're going, we're going home. And like he kind of ran away.
SPEAKER_02I was like, oh, napkin to him.
SPEAKER_01No, it was really disappointing.
SPEAKER_02Also, they have like black napkins in there. So did you just like scribble on like a black napkin and a black pen?
SPEAKER_01No, I was gonna write it on a listener. That's another reason why I shouldn't quit smoke.
SPEAKER_02No, please.
SPEAKER_01The paraphernalia comes in handy.
SPEAKER_02All you need is an actual pen as well. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Oh god.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. So the one that got away.
SPEAKER_01The one that got away, yeah, exactly. Um, speaking of the one that got away, should we talk about Callum Callum Turner at Julie?
SPEAKER_02Jules has filled in this the like podcast topic spreadsheet this week, and it's just it's like all just all Callum Turner and Juliet's wedding, but like on just different lines, and I'm like, it's all the same thing. Like, why are you like spreading it out as if it's set for topics?
SPEAKER_01Listen, it's a hefty one and needed space. It feels like a long time ago now, annoyingly, but there was just like so much to say. First of all, can we address the like palermo of it all?
SPEAKER_02What is in it? Just being in like them shutting down a lot of the city.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, do you think that's okay when celebrities do that?
SPEAKER_02I mean, like what what's the what's the beef about them doing that? Because the people can't Well the locals were angry about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but why are they like what is it because they just can't get around or like I think it's like yeah, I think it's like road closures and they'd obviously rented that entire square for their day one, and I think people were like just being inconvenienced, basically.
SPEAKER_02I mean that feels like quite Sicilian to like complain about that. Do you know what I mean? Just trying to wonder if like a bit of London was closed down for like a famous wedding, I would be like, Oh my god, fantastic, like I'll go and try sneaker peek. I it'd be a bit inconvenience, but I wouldn't care.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so if like Madonna was getting married in Trafalgar Square and your bus was on diversion, would you be like, for fuck's sake? And then go out with a placard. But Hermione's quite placard carrying.
SPEAKER_02That's true. I don't like to be inconvenienced, but I don't I really don't think I would. Like, I think you get inconvenienced enough here anyway, by the buses. Do you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01So by the drivers themselves, they're like, We're on strike.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01So at least it's glamorous, I suppose.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. I'd be like this if I don't really have like that much of an opinion on it, but um right, okay.
SPEAKER_01That's like three lines of the spreadsheet gone then. Um no, I really want to see the main dress.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I want to see the main photos. So they basically had like three-day affair Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and we saw there were photos out from the Friday, and she looked fucking amazing, didn't she?
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02She was in like a white leather batega Veneta dress with like feathers, and they had like a really low back, it looked really good. And then Saturday there was no photos, that was the actual wedding. And then Sunday we saw them. I have to say, they were looking a little bit hungover. Squiffy.
SPEAKER_01Well, apparently they were partying till 6 a.m.
SPEAKER_02Puffy faced, even go to say, from the pixelated paparazzi photos that I saw.
SPEAKER_01Well, Callum was wearing his trusty sunglasses that he seemed to wear the entire wedding. I really hope he didn't wear them, tummy either. I was like bloody out. But um I was saying to Han basically as it was occurring, I discovered that my most hated ex was also at the wedding. Um videos of himself and his friend being like me and my best friend at the wedding, as if it was like the royal wedding. I was like, you're such a twat. Also, not even saying like what the wedding was, just like assuming that people would know, but also trying to like have this mystique around it. I was like, I I literally want to die. So unfair.
SPEAKER_02Well, you were like, I'm so jealous, and I was like, it just makes me hate him even more.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. I wish someone pushed him in the sea or something. Like off a boat or something like that. Not to his death, but no, no, no.
SPEAKER_02We don't want anyone to dusting.
SPEAKER_01Just a splash, you know, an inconvenienced dousing of seawater.
SPEAKER_02That would be a scratch from a rock, maybe. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, what those things? An urchin, an urchin.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, step on an urchin, an urchin to the book. You've been there.
SPEAKER_01We've been there, do you remember?
SPEAKER_02I really don't think we enjoyed that festival. We didn't. We didn't enjoy it, did we? It was in Tisno in Croatia, which was like gorgeous. That was our introduction to chilled red. Do you remember?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I don't remember.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they kept on giving us red wine, but it was just naturally chilled there because it was obviously hot country, and we were like, This is delicious. But we got to like the actual festival and it was in what looked like a centre park or like a buttland stuff.
SPEAKER_01Do you remember it was when everyone was taking rhino K?
unknownDo you remember?
SPEAKER_02It was obviously just all the same shit, just like they were just putting another like huge animal in front of it.
SPEAKER_01But but apparently it was because they'd run out of hor horse tranquilizer, so they were giving out rhino tranquiliser. Yeah, do you remember our friend was offered some of this rhino cake by this guy anyway? I think she c hauled immediately and claimed to have lost half her memory. It's she's regained it, thank god. Do you remember? She like came crawling out in the next day. It was like, I don't remember any.
SPEAKER_02Ivy like came off really badly in that holiday. Like, we ended up going on a boat party to like a secret island, and it was honestly the longest day of our lives. We were there for about six hours, just basically sitting on a rock waiting to go home, waiting for the boat to turn up again.
SPEAKER_01Well, the same who gave Gemma the Rhino K spat out a tab of acid on my face by accident that he had been taking, and that was my period of being really scared of drugs. Whereas obviously now I'm I love them. Um I'm joking, I'm joking. But at that time I was like really paranoid. I had like an OCD spiral of especially about hallucinogenics and acid. Anyways, I had this acid on my face I was convinced was getting into my bloodstreams. I was like, oh my god, threw myself into the sea like a maniac, followed by Bella, our friend, and then both of us stepped on an urchin.
unknownDo you know what I do not remember?
SPEAKER_01Everyone else was like partying and like looking cool, and we were thrashing around in the sea trying to wash this ass in time, screaming in pain.
SPEAKER_02I don't remember the reason why you jumped in, but I remember you jumping in and then both stepping on an urchin. Like a group of girls just sat on a rock trying to get like the urchin needles out of your guys' feet, and then just like all of these people like dancing in like some kind of dancing around us having a nice time. Looking at us like we were freaks.
SPEAKER_01No, it wasn't a good festival. It wasn't.
SPEAKER_02I've literally got no idea how we got on to this subject.
SPEAKER_01Do a leaper. How the fuck did we get on?
SPEAKER_02I've got no idea.
SPEAKER_01Um, did you know that if a train driver has three people jump in front of his train, they get full life, full pay for life? I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. I did know that. That is so random that you said that and also quite dark.
SPEAKER_01But anyway, moving on.
SPEAKER_02But yes, I did know that. I think you would rather not have three people jump in front of your train.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. It would be extremely dramatic.
SPEAKER_02But anyway, Monday morning musings. Um, have you seen all the Knicks stuff? So I'm so confused. You know how all of like like Kylie and Timothy Chalamet and all that lot are like going to the Knicks and they're like celebrating crazily and stuff. Also, like all I do is watch like replays of Kylie and Timmy hugging because I'm just like, your love is so pure. I love you guys. But they like were celebrating so hard. So I was like, oh my god, the Knicks must have just won like the whole tournament. Is it the SCA? I don't know. Um I think it's basketball. So I thought the Knicks just like won the whole damn thing, and apparently not. Apparently, they just won one game leading up to the final. I was like, What?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm so confused. I'm really confused. You know how everyone keeps saying the thing like five Knicks. What's that?
SPEAKER_02No, what's that?
SPEAKER_01I don't know if that's what they keep saying. Like five Knicks five or something.
SPEAKER_02No, I've got no idea. But then they won again last night. So I'm like, when's the final? And like New York's going crazy. I keep seeing all these videos of like New York going absolutely mad. But I'm like, guys, you're not even won it yet.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think it's because they're like really bad team or something.
SPEAKER_02I guess I think it's because they haven't won in ages. I guess it's kind of like when England goes through like the World Cup and quarterfinal, you're like so aghast.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Okay, so it says the NBA finals are the 13th of June. So maybe they did win.
SPEAKER_02Oh, maybe they did win.
SPEAKER_01What? Oh, the New York Knicks defeating San Antonio Spurs to claim their first championship since 1973. Oh, okay. Well they go.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay, so they won. Go Knicks. Go next. Oh my god, speaking of sport, did you I love that this is a sport podcast now?
SPEAKER_01But did you see two things? First of all, that presenter, the American TV presenter, call James Corden a full kit wanker.
SPEAKER_02Yes, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_01That was the funniest thing I've ever seen. So he obviously didn't realise that wanker was like a really bad swear word. So he's on night TV with like Thierry Henry and this other British female presenter, and then another American guy. And they're like, Oh, did you see what uh James Corden was wearing? Because he was wearing the full American football kit with such a beg. Anyway.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, why is he so annoying?
SPEAKER_01So he was wearing the full American kit, and then this American presenter goes, Oh yeah, don't we don't you call him the um sorry that's not an American accent?
SPEAKER_02Just going Australian again.
SPEAKER_01I know, don't you call him a full kit wanker? Um, I don't even think that's a anyway, but anyway, he called him a full kit wanker, and then obviously Thierry Henry and this British lady are like okay, we don't use the W word, like it's a very bad word. And they're like literally streaming on live TV, and I'm like Thierry Henry is like shell-shocked, doesn't know what to do, doesn't know what to say, but I was like hilarious, fucking James Corden getting called a wanker.
SPEAKER_02Full kit wanker. I mean, he is, so like he wasn't wrong.
SPEAKER_01I do sometimes feel sorry for him though, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But like then you find out he's dressed in full USA football kit and you're like yeah. Um, have you seen all the US football chants? No, oh my god, they're so awful. I mean, obviously, like we're used to like I mean, I wouldn't even be able to do an England one, but anyway, but like the US ones are just so cringe, they're like, we will win, we will win. And like we love soccer, we and I'm just like, oh, it's just so like earnest and pathetic. Um I really want them to get kicked out ASAP.
SPEAKER_01I know it's I don't think it seems fair that if you're the host country, you automatically qualify. Is that what happens? Yeah, so so like the rules, yeah. I mean, like, you know, my glorious home country, Poland, didn't even qualify this year, which is a great, great humiliation. But put like the fucking US team's in it and they're shit, like really shit. Um, but there was so funny, there was this one video of um, you know, how football fans famously love a Mexican wave. So there was like some game that someone someone was playing. Anyway, and um the all the American fans were doing this Mexican wave, and then all of the England fans, because they were all in this like one block in the stadium, as soon as the Mexican wave got to them, we're just going like this. Fuck off, basically, two fingers up, like not doing the Mexican wave, just all a sea of two fingers. I was like, so proud.
SPEAKER_02That's so funny.
SPEAKER_01Did you see also that um basically all of these like Americans have been taking to X and you know various platforms and being like, How dare these English people and Brits keep calling it football? We sorry again, I don't know why I'm doing the accent. Um they were like, it's called soccer, we invented it. And everyone's like, What? Oh, yeah, they they're so stupid. They think they invented it. I'm like, babe, if it was famously a pig's bladder and it was kicked around somewhere in Warwickshire or something like that.
SPEAKER_02Um I just can't even deal. They've just all lost their minds. There is an insane country.
SPEAKER_01So speaking of weddings, we didn't actually finish talking about Durian Callens. Um circle back, circle back, circle back, circle back. First of all, what do you think about Elton Jones? On singing your song.
SPEAKER_02Um I mean magical.
SPEAKER_01I actually think it's a bit naff.
SPEAKER_02Really? I don't think you would say no to it.
SPEAKER_01But I wouldn't say no to it.
SPEAKER_02I think it's totally.
SPEAKER_01Do you know what I mean though? Like it's so like preprint there. I mean, yeah, if he's free, I I'd take it.
SPEAKER_02I I I love that song though, so but yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, did you see that Siena Miller got engaged?
SPEAKER_02Um yes, I did through telling me.
SPEAKER_01And also uh Taylor Swift, do you see the about the Madison Square Garden?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, is that really is that true though?
SPEAKER_01Apparently.
SPEAKER_02So Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, I think is his name, um are getting married in Madison Square Garden, which I just feels like a bit tacky, to be honest. What do you think?
SPEAKER_01I think the reason, well, this is what like the newspapers are saying, but they're saying that the reason why they've done it is for to have like complete privacy, basically, because like you can't get any cameras in, you can't get any drones, like all that kind of stuff. But like having no natural light is like in on July the 3rd, 3rd of July. Seems kind of sad.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like quite bleak. So they've gone off the idea of the Cotswolds then.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, apparently gone off the Cotswolds.
SPEAKER_02The Cotswolds is is safe for another year.
SPEAKER_01Put the placards away, guys.
SPEAKER_02To be fair, I can imagine people in the Cotswolds protesting.
SPEAKER_01Well, do you remember when um what's his name? JD Vance was there last last summer, yeah, and they like blocked out a whole village and there was just like people stood outside in their tractors, like throwing stuff at. Oh, I hate that man, he's so gross. I know.
SPEAKER_02Um so ugly. You're loving doing that at the moment, like bitching about people and being like they're really ugly.
SPEAKER_01Thing is, I went through a phase of like really not bitching, and I've really been bitching recently. I'm back to bitching.
SPEAKER_02Sometimes you need to.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, clearly, clearly. Something inside me that needs to get out.
SPEAKER_02Plus, if they're ugly, then whatever.
SPEAKER_01But I don't mind saying someone's ugly when they're evil.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, inside, you know.
SPEAKER_01Ugly inside and outside. Yeah. Well, good for all the slabs. Everyone's getting married.
SPEAKER_02But are all getting married?
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, also, um, did you see about um Tyra Banks suing Netflix about the America's Next Fort Model documentary?
SPEAKER_02No, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she's suing them for defamation because they she said that they manipulated her into basically getting involved in the documentary. I mean, we were all shocked that she was doing it, to be honest, because it was like a fucking hit piece.
SPEAKER_02She did come off terribly, sadly. But also, like it was all true, so I don't really know how she could sue them.
SPEAKER_01I know literally, like everything that everyone said was factually correct, so she just is a cunt.
SPEAKER_02I feel like she's not gonna get anywhere with that.
SPEAKER_01No, I don't think so. Have you also heard about this new term, bimbo stoicism?
SPEAKER_02Well, you sent it to me last night, but I don't know what it is.
SPEAKER_01I mean, listen, I barely do too.
SPEAKER_02I know I was trying to read the post and I was like, I don't understand what this means.
SPEAKER_01To be honest, I don't think it means much, but like the girls on TikTok are having a field day because you know how every year there's hot girl summer or like rat girl summer or whatever it was last year. Like goblin girl summer. Yeah, rat boy summer, that was it. And now this year it's like bimbo stoicism summer.
SPEAKER_02Doesn't really roll off the tongue as well.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't roll at all. But basically, apparently it's like the girls are taking back their power over the way they look. So they're like leaning into their like sensuality and their like authentic appearance, and basically talking about themselves as if they were like a loving mother figure. So, like one girl was like, I used to hate my huge nose, but now I think it's strong and powerful, like that.
SPEAKER_02What's why is it called bimbo stoicism?
SPEAKER_01Because I think it's like a reinterpretation of femininity, so like almost reclaiming this like bimbo term, but like making it something powerful and like personal. Do you know what I mean? I don't know, reclaiming it.
SPEAKER_02But isn't bimbo like wasn't that very much like the stereotype of very like blonde, cute, whatever? Like, do you know what I mean? Like I feel like it was yeah, like it wasn't necessarily like every woman.
SPEAKER_01Yes, but I think it's I don't think they're thinking about it that that much the like anthropological etymology of the well they should be if they're trying to coin it as like the summer aesthetic. I know, but I mean it's quite intellectual, bimbo stoicism.
SPEAKER_02Like, yeah, it's definitely more than like Brat Summer, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um speaking of Brat Summer, Charlie's new album's coming out, and I'm I'm literally addicted to it. I love it. Those two songs I've just listened to them on repeat.
SPEAKER_02Those two songs. You kept when you were like, I'm obsessed with all the songs, and I was like, Oh, there must be more than the two that are out. It's just those two.
SPEAKER_01Do you think they're so good? But you're not as convinced.
SPEAKER_02No, I just haven't like plugged them in and played them on loop yet. Do you know what I mean? They haven't like earwormed their way to my brain.
SPEAKER_01They're more like her old stuff, I think, than the Brat album.
SPEAKER_02Interesting.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and she's like singing with her actual voice in like at least most of one of them. Which I'm into. Like her voice is actually good. I don't know, I just think it's cool. I really like it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just because Brat is such a success. She's not like I'm just gonna do the same thing.
SPEAKER_01For sure. And I also just love how prolific she is. She's just she constantly works. Like, she was like, all last summer did like five films, recorded that she doesn't seem it. She got married. Got married. Did you see that she did that um DJ set at the last lost um party? And then the next day they were at Primavera DJing at Primavera, and then the next day they were at During Callum's wedding. I'm like, guys, if that's all how'd you look so good?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. She's got good stamina.
SPEAKER_01She's got fucking good stamina. I'd be like getting wheeled in on a fucking wheelchair with a drip. Oh, I really want to do one of those IV drips.
SPEAKER_02No, she you're right, she has amazing stamina. I'm impressed.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, how does she look so good? I reckon she must get laser facials or something.
SPEAKER_02How are you?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but it's like the worst time of year to get it. It's like boiling hot, and you're not allowed to be in like sunlight.
SPEAKER_02That's on there. I thought it was only a couple days.
SPEAKER_01Well, you really shouldn't be in sunlight at all, really, for like at least like two weeks, but it's like the fucking El Nino is hit, and like I'm going to Italy the week after, so I'm just gonna have to like bandage my face or something.
SPEAKER_02What's the like what happened if you go in the sun? Which you will.
SPEAKER_01I think it just like your skin is so sensitive, and also I think it like like it will damage your skin. Do you know what I mean? It's like yesterday I went out and sat in the sun, and I've been using loads of retinol on my chest and completely forgot, and then my chest is completely burnt, and I'm like, great, all that work that I've been putting in is like completely eradicated. Evaporated. Evaporated. If anything, I've like corroded the skin now. That's cool.
SPEAKER_02And I think I've made it so much worse. Um, well, you'll just have to not have your face in the sun. I mean, you don't really like put your face in the sun that much anyway.
SPEAKER_01You're a sunbather though, you like the sun.
SPEAKER_02I love the sun. I try not to like do my face that much.
SPEAKER_01You are you fat to 50 in it every day?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, always, even for winter. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01God, yeah.
SPEAKER_02My god, it scared me for the time.
SPEAKER_01But my skin's really bad because I think because I used to have acne on my forehead um when I was like 21 or something, I went through a phase of literally burning it in the sun. Because I was like, well, this seems like an efficient way to get rid of it. And so now I have like really sensitive skin. Um, so every time the sun comes out, I'll get like a patch of pigmentation. There's never like an even nice hand, it's like patchy red patches and like pigmentation, so like it actually looks worse.
SPEAKER_02You got your new bronzer, so you know to put your face in the sun.
SPEAKER_01Rare beauty, guys.
SPEAKER_02Rare beauty. She said she went into Space and K like every day for a week to like try Spronzer, and they were like, the people were like, please just buy it.
SPEAKER_01I know. I was like, I think I will, guys.
SPEAKER_02I think I will basically used a bottle of it anyway in the shop.
SPEAKER_01Oh god, it's so fun to go in there. Every day I'd be like, guys, what do you think my colours are? Could you just could you just like do my face how you think it should be done?
SPEAKER_02And they'd be like, Do they do that in there?
SPEAKER_01Well, they were a bit annoyed. They'd be like, Well, what is it that you want? And I was like, honestly, guys, I'm telling you, I don't know. Like, just you you tell me.
SPEAKER_02I feel like nowhere really does that.
SPEAKER_01They do actually give you a full makeover in Liberties.
SPEAKER_02Do they?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so sometimes before like a date, if I've been at work, like in Soho or whatever, and I haven't put makeup on, you just go and you say, Can you just do my face? and you get like literally a full makeover for free for free. I mean, they want you to buy the product, obviously.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, obviously. You're fine in an ideal world. I don't really know. If I was really rich, I think I would just shop in Liberty. I love it there so much.
SPEAKER_01Do you think that's your favourite apartment store? It's just you're like, no, it's actually John Lewis.
SPEAKER_02It's actually Debonham's. Wait, it's Debonham's gone now.
SPEAKER_01I feel like it is. It's giving gone.
SPEAKER_02It's g it's giving gone. Um RIP. Um uh no, yeah. I mean, it's just like the nicest store ever. Like the homeware bit, the clothes, the um all of it.
SPEAKER_01I do sometimes find that there's not quite enough selection on the clothes front.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, of course. It's the same as selfages, like you go in and like each concession has like three pieces of clothing and it's all like size six, and you're like, What don't you what do you expect me to do with this?
SPEAKER_01Like put it on one leg? Like, sure, we're a million pounds, fine. Selfages sometimes overwhelms me though. Selfridges is a bit.
SPEAKER_02I went there to use this voucher and I was absolutely exhausted. Like, felt like I was getting a fever. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I end up buying nothing and then spending like 20 pounds in the food hall just to kind of decompress. And I'm like, why did you do that? You couldn't afford that 60 pound jumper, but you've just spent a third of the price on candied nuts.
SPEAKER_02Wait, how's your because um you said you were like trying to scrimp and be more frugal on your food shops and not like just spending it all out of the bag shop. Yeah. So how's that gone? Like, what have people doing? Like, have you like stepped for it in the Sainsbury's? Like, what's going on?
SPEAKER_01Well, it worked for one week and then this week I've I've been back to my old ways and was buying that fucking San Ambrosio hermit on like a daily basis. No, but it's really bad. I have noticed a major difference because basically it was so rainy and horrible, I just couldn't be bothered to trek to the Sainsbury's. Yeah. So I was like, fuck it, I'm just gonna buy bits and pieces. But then I've spent now like 65 quid on bits and pieces, whereas the week before I went to Tesco and did the big shop, I spent like 32 quid.
SPEAKER_02I know. Well, and I've got a blood card. I went up to Sainsbury's the other day, and it was like temporarily closed, but it and it had like a weird smell coming from it. So I was like, I don't I don't know what's going on here. But I was like, oh my god, for fuck's sake, where am I gonna get dinner stuff? And I walked up, and this new organic shop had opened up. It was called like Planter or something, but it was kind of like a Whole Foods or whatever. And I was like, Oh, perfect, like I'll go in there and just like get a few bits. I bought a bag of Noki and some kale for £10. I was like, I can't do this. And how does this every week?
SPEAKER_01£10. That is daylight robbery.
SPEAKER_02But kale, I was like, to be fair, it's still in the fridge, it's going quite a long way, but that's good.
SPEAKER_01Long life kale. That's nice. I wonder what fucking pesticides are on that.
SPEAKER_02No, but just quite a big bag.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that's quite good. That's good. It's worth a six quid, I guess. I always find with kale that I don't know what to do with it. Like other than roasting it, I find it I don't like it. Like, do you know what I mean? Like, what are you doing with it? Are you steaming it?
SPEAKER_02No, no, no. Just roast or like if you make like a green sauce or something, like with spinach and do you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01What you're using the kale to make a sauce?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like if you're like doing like pasta and you made like a green sauce for the pasta.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that was quite nice.
SPEAKER_02All the veggies in there. Put like peas and spinach and kale and stuff. Veggies.
SPEAKER_01You love a veggie.
SPEAKER_02Wait, so obviously last week we found out about this spooky letter and horse race, and we obviously left the pod like about to go bet on it because we were like, we must do like the universe is like trying to say something. And what did we do? We got distracted and forgot and went for biz there.
SPEAKER_01Um we don't deserve money.
SPEAKER_02No, and then we held out. No, we don't deserve money. Um, we found out that the horse won, Christmas Day won.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02So if anyone who like doesn't isn't caught up, basically there was a letter found in Crystal Palace Park that was from a guy in the 60s that said, bet on a horse in an upcoming race. The name has to do with Christmas because he had bet on a horse called Santa in a race in the 60s and it had won. There was the Epsom Derby coming up that weekend, and there was a horse for Christmas Day in it. The odds were like 25 to 1 or something, so it wasn't like supposed to win, and it fucking won, which is mind blown. Anyway, so obviously me and Jules were like sitting there over a Guinness, just like we could have won like we could have put like 500 pounds on this horse and be rich.
SPEAKER_01We would be able to retire. We can you imagine if you put two grand on that, how much would you get back? Like 50 grand?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. But I mean, obviously we wouldn't have put two grand in it because we don't have two grand anyway.
SPEAKER_01But we'd be able to put two pounds on it though.
SPEAKER_02But we knew someone who put 25 quid in it and he got like 400 and something pounds.
SPEAKER_01I'm so jealous. That would have like paid for our summer. If we just put like 100 quid on it, that would have paid for our summer.
SPEAKER_02That would have been so bold if we did that though.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we would never have done that.
SPEAKER_02We would never have done that. We'd never have done that. It's just like wouldn't happen.
SPEAKER_01I wish I sometimes I was a bit more of a I was a bit more reckless, you know? Yeah, yeah, a bit more of a gambler.
SPEAKER_02It's not like you have like a good record with it, so true, true, actually.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I shouldn't be gambling gambling. Imagine me and you going to Vegas and just like losing all of our if we had to make it so we'd be so over stimulated.
SPEAKER_02I feel like I would quite like to go, but I think I would find it so overwhelming.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't actually appeal to me at all.
SPEAKER_02I'd like to go to like see it, you know.
SPEAKER_01Do you know what I wouldn't?
SPEAKER_02I just feel like it seems sleazy. Yeah, it does a bit. My um dad was telling me this story about he went on like a work trip around that area and they finished like a bit like a day early or something, so they were like, Oh, like let's go somewhere and do something like the options of Vegas or the Grand Canyon, and they were like, put your hand up if you want to go to Vegas, the Grand Canyon. And my dad was the only one who put his hand up for the Grand Canyon. I everyone else put their hand up. I know it's so awesome. Everyone else put their hand up for Vegas, so he was like, We had to trudge to Vegas.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, I love your dad so much. Oh, that reminds me so some of my favourite paintings in the whole world David Hockney's um Grand Canyon paintings. Um passed away. He was 88, I think. Yeah, I literally cried. Like I had tears running down my face. I felt like he represented the last bastion of like hope. Do you know what I mean? Like we're fucked. Everyone else is like evil.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know. The fact that he also like the fact that he just like picked up an iPad and was like, I'm just gonna start making art on this, not turning his nose up to different forms of technology media and stuff like that. Like, he just was so cool and he just was himself so authentic to himself, and he was just always experimenting, and that's why he like kept on growing as like an artist. I just think it's like really inspiring.
SPEAKER_01He was like a true iconoclast. Even apparently, when he was at the RA at the Royal Academy, as part of their like final exams, they had to write a huge essay, and he was basically just like, I'm not writing it because what's that got to do with my art? Anyway, in the end, they thought that he was so talented that they actually just like passed him, even though he didn't write it. And he also refused to do life drawings with like female models, I think, and he like did something instead with like male nudes. Even some of his like most early paintings were basically like very kind of gay-coded, like two men like in a shower and stuff. And this was when being gay was still illegal, so it was like he was so just bold and like progressive. I just love him so much, I love him so much. I have no problem with it. I think I'm just love islanded out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, to be fair, I haven't tuned in the last few years, but I've been told it's been good. So I and is it? Yeah, it's alright, it's no summer house.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, of course. Um, speaking of summer house, did you see that West Wes Wilson, the villain, the villain of this podcast, um, not a friend of the show.
SPEAKER_02He um if you're listening, although someone the our group was saying that we should get him on the pod, and I was like, to be honest, he's probably desperate for some good price. So if we position ourselves as fans, advocates, want him to get out his story, and then we'll just kind of surprise him with loads of like penetrating.
SPEAKER_01Um, you can bring a placard, yeah. We'll just we'll tell him how it is. No, but on his own podcast that he has, he was talking about how he's so happy that the Knicks have won because he basically thinks it's gonna eclipse the whole scandal. And I was like, How dare you? I really hope that it doesn't eclipse what you did.
SPEAKER_02Won't it won't? Everyone's still fuming. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01And also, so there's another TV show that me and Hannah watched, which is a spin-off of Summer House called In the City, and they did the reunion with Andy. Um what was it called? Andy Cohen, that's it. Sorry, the king. How can I forget? So he was doing the in the city reunion. Apparently, he was gonna ask uh Amanda, because she's also on it, what she was on on the Summer House reunion because she she comes across like she's completely pilled up, doesn't she?
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, stop it.
SPEAKER_01And he already asked her on the show on the well he asked West, but he never asked Amanda. Did he not? Yeah, because everyone thinks that she's on like Valium or Xanax or something because she's like barely keeping her eyes open.
SPEAKER_02For sure. She's kind of fucked herself because I would almost be like, I have to be as knocked out again because then the people will think it's just like my demeanour rather than do you know what I mean? Because if she goes on this union and she's like, you know, speaking with it, has her eyes open, then like then people will be like, Well, you clearly just like knocked yourself out, which is just like a bit of a cop-out, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Um another show that I've been banging on to you to watch is Rivals.
SPEAKER_02I know. I need to just like binge it properly. I've not had any time.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, so the first series I thought was good. This series, second series, I think is excellent. It's so good. I actually preferred it to the first series because it's like, oh my god, it's got everything you need, but it's so comforting. It's like it's thrilling, it's dramatic. The acting is so good. David Tennant's acting, fuck me, he's amazing. That man does not get enough credit, he's so such a good actor.
SPEAKER_02Have you seen that video of when he got that Lifetime Achievement Award? And he's so shocked that he got it. And I'm like, I haven't seen it. And they cut to him, and he's like, What's going on? It's really sweet.
SPEAKER_01He's so is it the BAFTAs or something?
SPEAKER_02I can't remember.
SPEAKER_01And you have to watch it. As in, as in, like, I mean, I love the first, but it's better. It was like everything that both of us would ever want from a TV show. It's like, it's sexy, it's dramatic, it's thrilling, it's pacey, but it's also kind of like funny and cheeky, and it's got all the 80s music and it's like atmospheric, and I was like, oh my god, like this is like a warm heart. Okay, yeah, cool. Honestly, it's to make that top of your list. I will, I will, I will, I will. Um any other recos?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01No, no, I've got none either.
SPEAKER_02If we're gonna start the segment up again, tell me.
SPEAKER_01I think we are. We're gonna have to be culture vultures this week.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Well, we're going to a gig on Thursday, so that would be fun. Oh my god, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm excited for that. Where is that?
SPEAKER_02I think it's in Camden.
SPEAKER_01Of course.
SPEAKER_02Of course. Um, I've got to go.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Right, Lebanon.
