Before Alexi launched this podcast, he was a founder running multiple businesses. Whilst everything looked great on the outside, he was struggling on the inside.
Failures felt deeply personal, no success felt good enough, and he was burning the candle at both ends but he just couldn’t see another way.
Then Alexi met his coach, ventured into podcasting, started learning about the power of the mind, doing more of what he loved, and ultimately having a greater impact in the process.
Now, Alexi spends his time hosting founder retreats and coaching founders through their business and personal growth journeys, helping them overcome mental blocks to achieve the impact they’ve always wanted.
We release new episodes weekly, consisting of brief conversations with conscious entrepreneurs and founder experts where we delve into growth mindsets, high performance, and leadership. This is a very special episode with my good friend Ed, who I have known for 15 years. This conversation is different to most and some may find it difficult to listen to. But that's what makes it such an important episode for myself, Ed, his close friends and family, and those who may have been affected by something similar.
Ed was sexually abused at the age of 13 at boarding school. He kept this a secret until two years ago (now age 29), when he finally felt compelled to seek support from family and friends. Partly due to his internal suffering, but also due to the knock on effects it was having in his life and those close to him. From abusing substances to racking up gambling debts and self harm.
Since opening up, Ed has been able to better understand the psychological toll that stemmed from this traumatic event and how it has affected many areas of his life. He also shares what he's learnt, particularly since opening up and engaging in various forms of therapy.
Sexual abuse is rarely talked about - almost unheard of in a public forum. But Ed felt he needed to do something to help other victims and raise awareness about an issue that is more prevalent in society than we think.
How many children are sexually abused? The NCPCC published a child sexual abuse statistics briefing in March 2021. Research with 2,275 young people aged 11-17 about their experience of sexual abuse suggested around 1 in 20 children in the UK have been sexually abused. That is a crazy statistic that I could not believe. And it is thought to be even more for various reasons.
I could not be more proud of Ed for having this conversation - and I know I’m not the only one. He did not have to open up, but he wanted to. For that one person this may help, and I know it will help many more. So here's to one of the kindest and bravest people I know.
Please do send over any feedback to hello@theconsciousfounder.co.uk and I will pass on any messages to Ed.
