Walk by Faith: Releasing Control and Returning to Trust

Jaime McFaden

In this special solo episode, Jaime invites you to lace up your shoes and take a mindful walk as we reflect on one of the most powerful scriptures: Proverbs 3:5–6.

Together, we explore what it means to truly walk by faith, especially in uncertain, noisy, and overwhelming seasons of life. Through breathwork, gentle reflection, and honest conversation, this episode is a reminder that you are not alone, you don’t have to have it all figured out, and faith isn’t just a feeling -- it’s a daily practice.

Whether you're a parent, on a healing journey, or just need a soul reset, this is your invitation to reconnect with God, breathe deeper, and trust the path ahead.

SPEAKER_00:

Hi, welcome to What's the Word. I'm your host, Jamie McFadden. I'm so excited to have you here. This podcast is all about faith, self-care, and the journey of parenthood. I will be interviewing some of the most inspirational people I know, so join me and let's grow together on What's the Word. Hello, and welcome back to What's the Word. I'm your host, Jamie McFadden, and I'm so excited to be here with you. Today, we have a quick solo episode, and I encourage you, grab your shoes, lace them up, And let's head outside. Let's get a little walk around the block as we hang together and focus on the word of the day. So go do that. Once you got those shoes on and you head outside, let's take a moment, just check in. Check in with your breath, the essence of life. Take a big exhale and just release your breath all the way out. Go ahead and take a nice big inhale through your nose. Feel the air around you, feel the energy within you, and release that breath all the way out with a big sigh. Again, big breath in through the nose, filling up your body as much as possible. See if you can get a little more air in there, and then release it all out. Do one more just like that on your own. notice a big breath in see if you can breathe all the way back into the backside of your rib cage full expansion maybe bring your shoulders up towards your ears for just a moment and then as you release that breath maybe shake wiggle the hands out roll your shoulders a little bit give yourself a little motion so today we're going to focus on a word a scripture a proverb that is one of the most well-known and famous. In fact, I actually think that I talked about it in a previous episode, and it is something that I think about, quite frankly, multiple times a day. So here we are again. And this one is Proverbs 3, five through six. Just to share it with you in case you don't know it. It says, trust in the Lord with all of your heart. Do not lean onto your own understanding. in all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Now, we're going to take the next minute or two to feel into your body, into your mind, and into your soul, how that might resonate with you today. I'm just going to Say it like it is. There's a lot of stuff going on. There's a lot of stuff going on in our world. There's a lot of stuff going on probably within each of us every day, any moment. In fact, just based on the trillions of cells in our body, the tens of thousands of thoughts every single day, the emotions that we go through, the different ways that we are processing this journey. So often we can get wrapped up in either a story, a fear, our own understanding of something, and maybe there's more than what meets the eye. So as you're walking right now, find a pace that feels great on your body, a pace that is comfortable and one that allows you to get into a more relaxed and a little bit of a meditative state. Whatever your personal spiritual beliefs are, I am not here, I just wanna preface this with every and all podcasts, I'm not here to tell you what you need to be doing. Who am I? I'm not here to judge, I'm not here, I'm here to share with you what I'm continuing to discover and rediscover. And I love being on this journey with you. And one of the things that continuously comes up is in our world, in our life and on this journey, we're being pulled in so many different directions. You turn on the TV and you see terrible news. You go to social media and you might not feel good enough, or you're comparing yourself to somebody else, or maybe you're getting recipes That's what I normally like to do is get recipes or I like funny videos or little animals. And actually a lot of scripture comes through. But we're constantly being fed all sorts of information from all different ways and all different places. So as you're walking right now, I want you to think about what it means to you in your life as it is right now, today, here and now, to walk by faith, to walk even in a path or journey You're out walking right now. Maybe you, for some reason, feel to take a left turn instead of a right turn today. Learning to not just lean onto what we're feeling in the moment. This is a perfect description for when I've taught people exercise. Exercise is actually how I would say I found my first discipleship and faith. And then it became motherhood, which I think for me has been by far the most profound spiritual experience thus far. And dealing with a lot of grief and a lot of deep-rooted sensitivity to feeling. So as you're walking right now, think about that word, faith. What does it mean in your life? And notice, even if it's an uncomfortable feeling, so many of us, oftentimes we associate, the words are very powerful. Words are powerful. In fact, I had read the Bible in my life, probably multiple times throughout school. And it never back then came to life. And when you hear the word comes to life, I do hope that for each and every person that listens to this podcast, that it can help to spark or ignite that little faith inside if it hasn't already been sparked. And if it is sparked, well, I hope that this is something that you can use to just remember. that we're never alone we're always connected and we are divine miraculous children of god so on that note start to notice the things that have been stressing you out in your life well like i said whether it's the stuff that's happening uh in the world around us whether it's something that's going on in your own mind whether it's whatever it is just notice it and Take a breath or two and I invite you to have a conversation, even if it's just a quick one, and see if there's any way that you can have a conversation where you're literally talking with God, talking out louder in your head, from your soul, from your heart, and sharing these worries, these fears, these feelings, these anxieties, whatever it is, and ask for the grace, the compassion, and the love that God so generously gives every day, all day, to take those burdens away from you. I have found the more in my life that I am in prayer. And it's so interesting because coming from... fitness, into yoga, into meditation and mindfulness and all these different practices, it led me here. And what's really fascinating is it's where I began, right? However, the full circle is very different because now all these things do come to life. And I notice I sit in prayer for hours sometimes in a day. And whether it's at night when I'm not sleeping, whether it's when little one's napping, but it's changed not just my perspective, it's changed everything. And I'm not saying that it's going to take away some of the terrible and awful things that happen in the world or in our lives. But by learning to not lean onto our own understanding and to have faith that maybe we don't need to figure it all out, maybe we don't need to put the story on There's a reason for this. Maybe we will never know the reason for why these things are happening. We may never actually comprehend or understand why certain things are happening in our life. But that's why we need to have faith. That's why it's so important that we have faith and learn to lean into that faith, especially in those times where things feel difficult. So what I want you to focus on today, because I always want to give something to pay it forward, but also for yourself. We talked about fitness. We're on a walk right now, hopefully. If you're not, that's totally okay too. But I do encourage you, anytime you're listening to What's the Word, go for a walk. This has been, for the last 10 years, what I've done with multiple companies where I've worked on apps and it's essentially a podcast, but a walking podcast. And so here we are doing it together and focusing on the word. And think about your wellness journey, your physical wellness journey. So often people will say, oh man, I'm just not in the mood. I ate that extra sugar. I had that extra coffee because I was dragging and I'm tired. Or, oh gosh, it's the end of the day. It's five o'clock somewhere. So I'm pouring that glass of wine. And once again, I'm not here to judge any of it. I'm also here to just raise awareness to us understanding what are the things that we're currently doing in our habitual patterns that Maybe we feel something inside of us that's wanting to shift something, but we haven't built up the discipline. Faith has a discipline to it. It's not just, okay, we believe, and it's all butterflies and rainbows, and we never have to put work. The other saying that's really important is faith without action is dead. You can have all the faith in the world, but if you're not actively taking some kind of a step forward, to the right, to the left, even backwards sometimes, we're not moving and then we're sedentary. So be an active participant in this life. Understand that there's going to be so many things that are out of our hands. Last but not least, notice in your life one way today, just one way when it comes to faith, whether this is with children around you, whether this is with your partner, a friend, a family member, someone you know who might be struggling, think of something that you can do to show up. To show up. Because God is consistently showing up for us. Whether we're showing up or not, sometimes that's a different story. But God is always here. And when we can show up for someone else in a way that carries faith through our action, whether it's a random act of kindness, whether it's calling to say hello to an old friend, whether it's apologizing, whether it's forgiving someone, whether it's just spending quality time together, whatever it is, go and do that today. And then please let me know what you did and let's continue to pay it forward and spread the love, the light, in this beautiful world that is so filled with all kinds of things. And we get to choose what we pay attention to. We get to choose what we're listening to. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart for choosing to listen to this today. I hope this inspires you to remember, lean into your faith. When things don't make sense, maybe it's time to turn the TV off. Maybe it's time to sit in quiet. Maybe it's time to pray. Maybe it's time to meditate. Whatever that may be for you today, please go and honor that. Thank you so much. Let me know what you do. Reach out to me. You can find me on any social media platform.
