Heaven Hill's Old Fitzgerald bottled-in-bond series has gained a devoted following among wheated bourbon enthusiasts, and the 7-year expression might just be the sweet spot in their lineup. This elegant decanter-style bottle with its distinguished wooden top houses a remarkable spirit that strikes the perfect balance between youthful vibrancy and mature complexity.
When I poured this bourbon into my Glencairn glass, the rich amber liquid immediately caught my attention with its impressive viscosity. At 100 proof, it coats the glass with medium-thick legs that slowly cascade down the sides – a promising indication of the full-bodied experience to come. The nose opens with waves of caramel complemented by subtle ethanol, followed by enticing hints of butterscotch and gentle toasted oak notes that become more pronounced as the whiskey breathes.
The tasting experience truly elevates this bourbon above many of its competitors. That first sip delivers a distinctive toasted coconut butterscotch flavor that sets it apart from other wheated bourbons on the market. The sweetness is perfectly balanced by oak tannins that provide structure without dominating the delicate wheat characteristics – a problem that sometimes affects the older expressions in this series. While the finish isn't extraordinarily long, it leaves a pleasant impression with lingering notes of butterscotch and subtle oak warmth.
At approximately $60, this expression represents excellent value in today's premium bourbon landscape. It earned an impressive 15 out of 18 points on our comprehensive barrel breakdown rating system, with particularly high marks for its exceptional taste profile. Whether you're a dedicated collector or simply looking for a delicious pour to share with friends, the Old Fitzgerald 7-Year delivers a refined experience that showcases Heaven Hill's mastery of wheated bourbon production. Try it alongside other offerings in their wheated portfolio like Larceny or Bernheim Wheat Whiskey for a fascinating comparative tasting experience!

Speaker 1:I'm going to skip over the theme songs tonight because, guess what, there's no sound being played in my speakers and that just makes no sense why that would happen. But it did and I got to get out of this back up to this anyways. Um, can't even play play the theme song at the end because I don't have the side speakers and everything going. But that's okay, all right. So we're going to do no music tonight. So so what a way to end up at this is a great way to end up at Is that it Heaven Hill? There, it is Quality guarantee. Yeah, there's a seven-year-old Fitzgerald right there. Got that set up. Welcome everybody to the podcast tonight.
Speaker 1:Tonight we are going to be doing the old whiskey, the old Louisville Whiskey Company's barrel bottle breakdown of old Fitzgerald 7. Let me first. Oh my god, now something else is happening here. Let's get out of that. I don't have to see this, I need to see that. All right. Ah, now I can hear. All right, good, everybody can hear. All right. So, old Fitzgerald this is this one I was able to pick up. Uh, john Ritt, who's watching tonight, picked this up for me in Chicago. When this hit in Ohio, I wasn't in town, didn't think I was going to get one and this was all over Chicago. So John picked that up for me. So this is what we're going to be tasting tonight.
Speaker 1:I'm excited because I do like Heaven Hill weeded projects. You know you're talking about larceny as far as a weeded bourbon. Old Fitzgerald is a weeded bourbon and what was there was, oh my God. Well, actually Bernheim is a wheat whiskey. So you've got a bunch of weeded bourbon coming out of Heaven Hill. And whiskeys wheat whiskeys. So love that. I love their weeded grain to glass program. So very excited about this having this.

Speaker 1:Kentucky Bourbon Festival is happening coming up a week. It'll be a week from Thursday. It will be kicking off, but we're kicking off on Saturday and I can't wait to get going on Saturday because Saturday is the time we go out and it's a big day for us. We are going down, checking into our Airbnb, doing a staff meeting for Kentucky Bourbon Festival, for all the volunteers, and then headed up to Neely and then we're going to go from Neely to. We're going to go from Neely to Revival, revival, vintage Spirits and Bottle Shop and that is on Saturday night where you can come see the Scotchy Bourbon Boys and come see us. It is 7, it'll start at 7 to 9.30. We're going to start off with a podcast and then we're just going to have fun. You're talking about vintage pours, cigars just a good time hanging out with Scotchy Bourbon Boys. Super Nash will be there, ct will be there, I'll be there, roxy will be there, we'll all be there. Come meet us, come check us out at Revival Vintage Spirits and Bottle Shop in Covington, kentucky. It's going to be a great time. Check that out. It's going to be a great time. Check that out. It's going to be a lot of fun. So I can't wait for that to happen. And then also we are going to be doing a new barrel pick or a barrel selection at Maker's Mark. So we're really kind of excited about that. That'll happen on Thursday.
Speaker 1:Wednesday is our bus tour. Our bus tour is fantastic. We got 28 people going. I mean, you are talking about the pours that we're going to have the kickoff in the morning. It starts off. It's going to kick off at, I believe, 9, 8. They leave at. The bus is leaving at 8.30. They should be down there by 9. So we should be on the road by 10, but at 9.30, we'll kick it off, get everybody loaded on the bus with their bus assignments and then head up to Louisville for a fantastic it's basically Evan Williams bourbon experience. Then you get into, you go from there to. We go to the Penn dentist club for lunch, then we go to whiskey thief or old carter. In one of those orders old carter, then whiskey thief distilling uh company and at their new lou location, and then we head off and with get with a mean um from uh, the owner and operator of old louisville whiskey company. So this is going to be quite the experience, um, fantastic experience. Then then, uh, drive back to um bardstown and uh, then the party's just started.
Speaker 1:Uh, roxy is going to be having a big birthday celebration coming up and one of these nights you'll be able to check it out. We'll be basically celebrating it the whole time from Saturday. She's going to get a week-long celebration, so check it out. Yes, the Whiskey Doc is going to be there too. Sorry about that, mr Whiskey Doc. I don't think Walker's going to be there. I think Walker comes in the next day. So this is going to be a lot of fun. We're going to have a lot of stuff.
Speaker 1:Now, this is our last podcast. It's funny I'm having audio problems, but this is the last podcast. Thursday I'm gonna run our Ironfish podcast, uh, and I'm gonna be packing. So, um, this is the last podcast of season six. I believe this is podcast. I want to say 108. So uh, gonna gonna. This should be a really, really, um, this was a great season. Never have we gone over 100, and we almost went 10 over 100. I want to thank all the followers and everybody.
Speaker 1:As far as this, then, what you got to do when we start off season Season 7 will start off in September You're going to get weekly podcasts on the audio and you're going to get a lot of lives of the podcast that won't be on standard times. We will do the lives while we podcast from the different places. We got a podcast set up at Neely, we got a podcast set up at Revival and then, as far as podcasts, that will happen right from the festival. You know that's what we got to go for. So that's what you know we can do and I'm looking forward to it extensively, looking forward to this time. So that brings us to my favorite segment. It's the Old Louisville Whiskey Company.
Speaker 1:You got to check out Amin's place there in Louisville, kentucky, the Old Louisville Whiskey Company. You can get a hold of him, call, make an appointment. What you're talking about, what Amin's experience? He's got a nice. He's got a nice gift shop available bottles, but what his real? He doesn't sell anything under seven years old and he has a barrel collection from everywhere in his warehouse and what he releases? He releases some fantastic what he he gets whiskey from, purchases it from different places. Then he puts it in other barrels, so then sometimes it's like a French oak barrel or whatnot. Sometimes he leaves it in the barrel for, let's say, he buys a eight year something or another and he lets it go. So he's released 16 and 17 year old barrel strength whiskey that he's aging in his warehouse right there at his place in uh old louisville whiskey company and he takes you around and you could sample some of those bottles. That's what's going to happen on this trip. Uh, call to make a reservation, come in groups. Uh, he loves, he does a great job and uh, we can't wait to see him because he's going to be part of our bus tour this year and, with Whiskey Thief and Old Louisville being our sponsors, I can't wait. This is just going to be a fantastic bus tour, so can't wait to see you, amin.
Speaker 1:So the way the Old Louisville Whiskey Company barrel bottle breakdown works is the rating scale goes of four categories Nose, taste, body, finish. Now on the categories, you can get up to four barrel knocks on the barrel for the nose and the body and up to five barrel knocks on the taste and the finish. So let's open this baby and see what happens. Now, a lot of times with wheat whiskeys as Ed Bly has said many times from Rising Tide Spirits is that a wheat whiskey is more delicate. So sometimes when you open it up it basically has been put in the bottle and it takes a while for it to get better. Wow, here we go. This is going to be a new crack. Here it comes. It wasn't very loud so, excuse me, the protein shake that I had today didn't go down real well, I don't know why. I think I had had too many not eating enough getting ready for this awesome tour. And you know thing, I've been pushing the exercise, eating healthy, extra vitamin C. So here we go in my glass. All right. I mean, this is like a new thing for the bottled in bond seven year. It's got a nice it's not the full decanter bottle. The top is a decanter with a nice wood top.
Speaker 1:This bottle, uh, I believe john said um, if I'm not great. I believe john said that, the price, what was it? 118 somewhere around there. I'm not exactly sure he might be able to chime in and let me know Fantastic nose, just caramel. There is a lot of caramel on there, it's a hundred proof. There's a little bit of ethanol. Okay, he said it was 60, so that's decent. I think I forget which one 50, he said59.99. So which is a really good price.
Speaker 1:What was the bottle then that we got? That was one something. I forget what it was. You picked up for me. All right, nice, I like the nose. I know as we go this'll nose, the ethanol, that, but it's 100 proof. So it's there. Let's see what it does.
Speaker 1:As far as body in this glen, I love to roll, roll the glens. I poured the right amount to be able to do this. All right, come on, baby. So the great thing about this tasting glass is you can do this and this is called coating the sidewalls. And then, as you pick it up, you look at what happens in the glass. Now it's a hundred proof weeded. So a lot of times there's a little thin, but those legs are starting, they come, they're coming down and they're pretty thick. It's not thin and it sticks to the walls for a nice clear coat. And then, as it starts to go, yeah, yeah, there, they are over here, nice, so the body should be decent.
Speaker 1:The Star Hill Farms, thank you, was the 118. Mmm, wow, wow, ooh, oh, thank you. The reaper cheers, thank you. Um, what, what you drinking on man tonight? Good to see you. I think I put this one back together a little bit better, but we're not going to have any music at the end either, unless I can figure something else there, because I don't have my sound working, which upsets me for the last one. But all right.
Speaker 1:So the old willowville whiskey, a seven-year weeding? Well, it can't be. It can be, but it can't be 120, because this is the bottled in bond tracy. But thank you for acknowledging that you have a seven-year weeded mash bill at 120. That is very good. Um, wow, what was that? There was a flavor on the tons. That's butterscotch, like a toasted, almost like a toasted coconut butterscotch. Wow, on the finish. The finish is light, light. Oh, she's talking about the old louisville. Okay, there you go.
Speaker 1:Let's see what mine is, this old louisville. Right here I've got a couple of bottles, but this is the one that I use, because one of them is my original bottle, which is kentucky tiny one, which was a French oak and, uh, it's a. What did I do here? It's like I don't usually have this tied in a knot. Someone tied it in a knot, not me. Oh, that's awesome, let's just get this. Uh, there we, there we go, I got it All right. So this one is an eight-year 120 proof. That was a present from CT and it's a damn good bottle. Old Louisville does a really nice job, there's no doubt about it, uh-uh. So let's get back to the. Uh. All right, we are ready to do the ranking.
Speaker 1:I really like it. I like it a lot. That is really good. Good Caramel and there's just a toasted oak aspect to it, a little bit of butterscotch on the nose. I'd say, out of four, this nose gets three knocks. Now, body For 100 proof. It just doesn't quite hit your cheeks, but that is a three body All right.
Speaker 1:The strong point is the taste for a weeded. This is pretty damn good, really really drinkable. I'm going to give the taste a five. Now, the finish is happening, the finish is fantastic. But Now, remember John, now remember john you can give five points in the taste and the finish. This finish is short. I do like it what's left, so I'm gonna give it a four out of five. So the total on this was 15 out of 18. Um, I like this more than some of the older old fits, because some of the older old fix deal a little bit too much in oak for me. So so I'm going to go.
Speaker 1:So the Old Louisville Barrel Bottle Breakdown Old Louisville Whiskey Company Barrel Bottle Breakdown. Rating of Old Fitzgerald tonight 15 out of 18. Not bad. Three and three is six and five and four is nine for a total of 15. Thank you, amin, for sponsoring the podcast. We appreciate it. Everybody you should check out Old Louisville Whiskey Company. Fantastic place to go. I mean, what Amin's got there is an experience that's not like every other experience out there. So, 15 out of 18, friends Very excited for this upcoming week.
Speaker 1:There's so many chances to see us. You're going to be able to see all the people who's going to see us on the bus tour. You could see us at Saturday night between 7 and 9.30 at Revival Vintage Spirits. You could see us at Neely Family Distillery on Saturday, probably between 3 and 5 o'clock. I'd say we get there about 2.30, three o'clock and we're going to be there. You probably can see us at Whiskey Thief I'm not sure if it's going to be at the farm or the Louisville location on Sunday. Louisville location on Sunday we're planning on going out to Whiskey Thief. So if you're out and about for the Kentucky Bourbon Festival then you can see us, definitely starting Thursday night, friday, saturday, sunday at Kentucky Bourbon Festival. So check us out, make sure that you come see us and say hi, look forward to everybody out there on the trail.
Speaker 1:Okay, that's what. I didn't screw anything up there, um, but this is like the. It's going to be a short one, folks tonight, because I have to get it going. I got work in the morning. Uh, love doing this tonight. I'm gonna we're gonna just end the podcast for because we don't have the audio tonight, which I wish I did, we would be rocking out with ai, but we're not everybody. Thank you on our audio podcast. Remember good bourbon equals good times and good friends. Make sure you don't drink and drive. Drink responsibly and live your life uncut and unfiltered. Good night, alright.
