Welcome to this meditation practice. Unlike other practices, where you are asked to remain still, this practice is one of mindful awareness of the sensation of touch. You will be using your hand in order to practice this meditation. You can take this practice standing seated or lying down, and you can even do it with your eyes open. However, to get used to the practice, it is helpful often to turn your attention inwards, and closing the eyes just brings a little bit more focus towards your inner experience. You can begin with either hand and taking your fingertip. Slowly and gently begin to move the fingertip over the other finger Of the opposite hand. Let your focus be purely on the sensations as your finger touches the other, gently moving as light or deep pressure and as slow or fast as you wish. The slower, the more you tune into subtler sensations. Allow this finger to move over the other fingers of the opposite hand. Be aware of the sensation in each hand and how it may differ. Different parts of the finger may feel a little bit more different and when you have felt over each finger, begin to draw the touching finger. You touch the back of the hand and then, moving over the palm of the opposite hand, notice the different sensations around the palm of the opposite hand.
Speaker 1:When you have finished sensing that first hand, allow your palms and fingers to rest still and observe the sensations of the sensing finger and the opposite hand and fingers. That's all, what do you think? And now we switch hands, bringing a sensing finger to the fingers of the first hand. And now we switch hands bringing a sensing finger to the fingers of the first hand. And now we switch hands bringing a sensing finger to the fingers of the first hand, moving over all fingers at your own speed and pressure. And now we switch hands, bringing a sensing finger to the fingers of the first hand. And now begin to draw the finger over the back of the hand, sensing across the back of the hand. And now we switch hands, bringing a sensing finger to the fingers of the first hand. And now we switch hands bringing a sensing finger to the fingers of the first hand. And now we switch hands bringing a sensing finger to the fingers of the first hand.
Speaker 1:Shapes and lines across the palm. Allow your palms and fingers to rest still and observe the sensations of the sensing finger and the opposite hand and fingers. If you desire, at this point you can complete the practice. Or you can try both hands sensing each other at the same time, simultaneously fingertips to fingertips, moving over other fingertips, over palm to back of hand, back of hand to back of hand, into palm to palm, while you are complete, allow the hands to rest. When you are complete, allow the hands to rest in one another in your favourite mudra and sense their resting in the sensations in both hands. When you are ready, you can continue with your day, knowing that this is a practice. You can do with any mindful minute, even if it's just a portion of the hand that is felt. Have a wonderful day.
