Your Daily Reset 5/7: Put Down Fear and Pick Up Courage: #FinishStrongFriday

SCIENCE SOUL SUCCESS

Hey SuiteSpotters!!

The end of the week shouldn’t leave you empty. It should help you walk into the weekend grounded, clear, and ready to start next week with strength—not survival.

We unpack a better way to close out Friday by weaving ancient wisdom, practical neuroscience, and simple routines that restore your energy without losing your momentum.

We start by naming the truth most professionals hide: you’re not just tired, you’re tired of being tired. From there, we invite a different finish line. Instead of forcing one more push, we guide you through intentional downshifting—calming the amygdala, easing the locus coeruleus, and creating the space to choose wisely.

Along the way, we draw on Matthew 11’s timeless invitation to recover your life and Mary Oliver’s piercing question about your one wild and precious life. The message is to help you connect deeper and act with purpose not just grind harder.

You’ll hear a short, repeatable reset you can do in minutes: breathe to signal safety, drop your shoulders, and decide on two moves—one thing to put down so you stop leaking energy, and one thing to pick up so you make real progress. Think of it like a boxer between rounds: water, breath, counsel, then back in with a sharper stance.

We round out the conversation with small, concrete choices—light movement, hydration, a three-win review—that lift your mindset and prime your weekend for recovery and reflection.

Finish Strong Friday is not about emptying the tank; it’s about reclaiming your rhythm. If the message hits home, share this with someone who needs permission to rest and reset today.

And if you haven’t yet, subscribe so you never miss our next daily boost—then tell us: what will you put down or pick up to finish strong?

SPEAKER_00:

Well, well, well, you did it. It's Finish Strong Friday, my friend, here on the Sweet Spot. I'm Dr. Derek Sweet. As you know, I'm a board-certified psychiatrist, but more than that, I'm your fellow traveler. I'm your companion. I am your soulmate on this journey that we call life. This mystery that we've been unpacking for the past few years here on the sweet spot. We talk to each other every day. Believe it or not, it's been a couple of years of every day us communicating. And every Friday, we just don't call it Friday. We don't just say TGIF, even though that's important. It's great that it's Friday, but it's also important in this week where we've been resetting our minds to call it like it is. This is Finish Strong Friday, my friends. Yes, let's tell the truth about Fridays. By the time you get here, we're not just tired, we're tired of being tired. You've been carrying the weight of the week, holding things together, showing up in the room, being that guy, that gal. You've been the one, you've answered questions, you've solved problems, you've dealt with sickness, you've dealt with all kinds of surprises and setbacks. And yeah, it's Friday. So today, I don't want you to grind harder. It's not about that. Today is about ending the week in a way that restores you instead of draining you. And the ancient wisdom puts it perfectly. You know, here on the sweet spot, we love that ancient wisdom. We always get here because we're about science, we're about soul, and we're about success, and so are you. The ancient wisdom in Matthew 11 puts it this way Are you tired? Are you worn out? Come to me, get away with me, and you will recover your life. That's in the message translation. I like that. Are you tired? Are you worn out? Come to me, get away with me, and you recover your life. Take a deep breath right there, put a hallelujah and an amen, my friend. Wow, that's not about performance in that verse. There is no expectation of you, just the invitation to breathe again, to get connected to your divine source, your power. That's what this is all about. That's why we go to the ancient wisdom. These are like text messages from 2,000 years ago that still hold power. So, look, there's a poet, Mary Oliver, and she asked the question that cuts right to the burnout question that we all face. What will you do with the one wild and precious life that you have? And you know, life is kind of short. You wake up one day and it's like, whoa, that much time has passed. And it's on us to enjoy every day, to enjoy every minute. It's on us not to waste days. I remember a saying, days are expensive. You don't get to spend them twice. So on this Finish Strong Friday, it's not about just wallowing in exhaustion, it's not about just wallowing in the pressure, it's about letting the brain's most um arousal center, the locus cereleus, um, calm down. You know, it's about you not letting your uh uh amygdala, the brain's threatened to run you ragged. It's about you taking a step back and doing something called intentional downshifting, taking a moment to just get still, to just sort of figure it out, to say, hey, you know what? I've got to reset myself. This is Friday, this is finish strong Friday. So I'm gonna take a breath, I'm gonna let my shoulders drop, I'm gonna say to myself, you know what, I'm allowed to rest. I'm gonna recenter myself, and I'm gonna keep this moving, and I'm gonna finish what I started. So, what is the one thing that you need to put down today so you can finish? Or what's the one thing you need to pick up today so that you can finish? That's what Finish Strong Friday is about. It's an attitude, it's an attitude that says, I can do all things through the power, through the God, through the Christ that is in me. Today is not about emptying the tank, today is about reclaiming your rhythm so you could step into next week with strength, not just survival. Rest, reset, and reclaim your stand and your victory. You were built for this, you were made for this, you faced bigger than this. Nothing is going to stop you. So you just recalibrate. Sometimes you do have to take a moment to sit down. Every boxer sits in the ring between rounds and gets a little water splashed on them, they drink something and they come back into the ring. Sometimes that's the way you finish, and you sometimes you do have to find fuel in the empty tank. And you know how you find that fuel through your divine connection. That's what I'm all about with you today. Yes, you can drink some Gatorade, absolutely. Coconut water may be even better, right? But it's not about just your physical body, it's your mental and spiritual body that you also have to replenish. And that's why Finish Strong Friday is built on the idea that you can rest, you can recover, and you can reclaim in the reset. This is Dr. Derek Sweet. Finish Strong, my friend. Rest if you must, but don't you quit. I'll see you tomorrow for Self-Care Saturday, where we will go a little deeper into the self-care. If this resonated with you today, I invite you to share it with a friend or someone you care about. And if you haven't subscribed, hit the subscribe button so that we can continue to have these amazing conversations. Alright, you're listening to the sweet spot. I'm Dr. Derek Sweet, and I'm out.
