S3: Ep 187 Visualize Like a Badass — 4 Science Backed Keys to Getting My Head out of My Ass
In this episode, I’m sharing about visualization as I'm climbing back out of my slumber on my path to unlocking my greatness. We’re talking about the science-backed magic behind becoming your future self—and the 4 core principles that can literally rewire your brain to start living that life now.
✨ Here’s what we dive into:
- How neuroplasticity helps your brain become the version of you that already hit the goal
- Why mirror neurons let you rehearse greatness before you ever hit the stage
- How emotional encoding locks in your vision with fierce energy (yes, feelings matter!)
- And how cognitive priming gets your subconscious working overtime to make it all real
I also open up about what’s shifting in my life—from considering a coaching certification to leveling up my biz and facing some real health stuff with courage and clarity. If you’ve ever felt stuck or scared to act, this episode is your cosmic kick in the ass.
🔥 You don’t need to wait to become her—you start by seeing her. Feeling her. BEING her.

Okay, witches & bitches, I'm back and it took every ounce of discipline, but I am here. I am here. I'm showing up to my microphone, giving you all the deets, and I have made some progress this week and I feel a little tingle of excitement in my gut. So I wanna share with you what's spurring that progress.
I've made changes in. My big life decisions again, and I know I look totally wishy-washy, but sometimes you just gotta follow where like the windows are opening, right? Like where you're seeing the universe directing and nudging you in a certain direction. So, oh my God, so much to share with you. First of all, I think last week I shared that I was doing, um, I do this book Club Bitches with Francesca Amber.
She's got a podcast called. Law of attraction changed my life. And she's this British chick. I love her. I just like her voice. And you know, she's a bunch of F-bombs everywhere. Not that that's a requirement, but I know if you guys are here, like you dig her to, you know, so she does this self help book club.
Which is really cool. We do like a book a month, and I honestly just usually listen to her podcast about the book. She's got like a private member podcast that goes with it. And this month she's decided to extend this book over two months, which I was a little bummed about because I really like the one month download, but it is giving me more time to get into it already, and this month's.
Book is called Visualize How to Think, act and Perform like the top 1%. I couldn't even get this book here sometimes because she's in England. You can't like get the stuff here in the states that they do over there for whatever reason. I could get it on Kindle, but I think I am just going to listen to her on this, but I wanted to mention it because.
I've talked about visualization on this podcast a lot I've shared with you. It's part of the me first guide, like visualizing daily. It's just such a powerful tool and we underestimate it. Don't use it enough. And I was reminded, just listening to her audio on it this week, how powerful what we put in our brains is even in, in the scope of visualization.
So I kind of wanted to share. Four of the key things I got out of there for you. And just remind you too, if you've been like me and putting a bunch of shit in your head, and I'm still doing it right, like I'm over here. I literally had to take a break from my, uh, binging British, uh, mystery TV shows right now to make myself podcast because I'm still a little bit in the numbing myself out to, I don't know, just like.
Not feel, you know what I mean? Like it's just so much easier to keep consuming, consuming, consuming. I'm reading a lot of fiction books right now, watching a lot of TV shows, binging Netflix, what whatever to not feel and listen and hear, and I'm starting to make space for that again. So. I'm excited because things are starting to shift.
I also think some of this is my PDA energy coming online, and if you have been listening for a while, you know, I'm a huge fan of Ayurveda, which is the old, old life science from 5,000 years ago that tells us like certain body types, certain, um, you can tell by certain elements within yourself what your type is.
And PTA is a summer like it's a fire. Fire. And. Is it water? A little bit of water or ether? Geez. I don't know. I gotta look that back up again. But fire is key, right? So it makes even sense with my skin getting all inflamed, like heat will inflame it. Um, you know, and it's like when my Pitta is too high, when I have too much of it.
I am too inflamed. I'm like too much. Right? And when it's out of alignment, when I'm too grounded, when I don't have that fire burning within me, it can feel really sluggish and hard to get up and hard to get moving. Like what I'm experiencing with all this hormone stuff. By the way, you guys, I'm super excited.
I go Wednesday. To my naturopath and she has all the results from my POO test, my P test. We're gonna talk hormones, we're gonna talk my intuitive guide healer that told me mold, mold, mold, and then HRT and all this other stuff. So I'm gonna be downloading a lot of that probably to you guys next weekend and a little bit on the Facebook Live.
If you catch me over there at. NamUs layer. But um, now, just so you know, you guys, Facebook's deleting live video within like 30 days now. So you gotta catch 'em fast. You can't like, catch up later. You gotta be real time over there. Okay, before I squirrel all over the frigging place, let's talk about this visualization because this is so key and I, I want you to just think about this.
Here's a few things that we're learning in this book already. From what I understand, this. Book is written by, um, a brain scientist, something like that. And so she opens the book talking about the four scientific principles behind visualization. And the first up is neuroplasticity, which this is, you know how I love some Dr.
Joe Dispenza, and if you've read his book or you get into his stuff, it's. All based around all of this brain stuff, right? But neuroplasticity is when your brain, brain literally is rewiring itself based on your thoughts and your experiences. So when you visualize it, especially with emotion and repetition, your brain strengthens the neural pathways.
And this we talk about a lot, I think, with habit building. I like to talk about that like. Because your brain can rewire a new pathway. Like for example, you brushing your teeth like that is like such a solid pathway. So if you were to like make a habit stack and you wanna add a habits to something to stack it on top of something that already has a pathway built in your brain, it can be much easier.
So when you're building this new. Pathway that you wanna create for this new you. Like, after I brush my teeth, I'm going to do five pushups, and then I'm going to. Big reward for yourself, right? Then I can scroll on Facebook, then I can do whatever to reward your brain is even better to help build that. So that's one way that we like use visualization, right?
Like it's in that rewiring of the thoughts, seeing it happen, how it's going to happen. And this is where we get the neurons that fire together, wire together, stay together, fire together, wire together. You know, this is like mental reps for your brain. So if you can see that, like I was talking to Amy in our coaching group this morning.
I said, Hey, you know, if you're struggling to get up and work out in the morning, set yourself up the day before. You make it super easy. You've got all your stuff ready to go, and the night before while you're setting it up, you just take a moment, close your eyes, see yourself getting up, see how good it's gonna feel to get out to that mountain, or get to wherever and get it done, and how good you're gonna feel on the other side of it.
And then the second way is to mirror the neurons. So this is when the brain cells activate, when you do something, when you see someone else do it or you even imagine doing it. And it helps you practice without physically moving. And so this is like. When, um, I used to hear about when I was swimming and they used to have us do this like visualize the race, right?
This is like you, like your body physically practicing and they have elite athletes. You hear about, um, Michael Phelps, you know, he would sit for two hours a day. Part of his regimen was just visualizing himself swimming his races. Right. Just think if we even spent 10 minutes visualizing yourself wanting to be this next version of yourself and what that can do.
And so it's like your brain can't always tell the difference between real and imagined action, and especially if you get with the third aspect of this, which is emotional encoding. So. When, uh, and a lot of Dr. Joe's visualization, I told you guys, I was doing a one of his YouTube visualizations, and a lot of it is, is bringing up this emotion, the emotion of gratitude, the emotion of love already seeing yourself there as your new self.
So what does she look like? What do I want her to feel like? Um, how am I so grateful for that now as if it is now like I'm already there and this emotional charge locks that experience in. And so you start to feel it. And I'm starting to notice this right now with my next big thing I'm looking at doing.
So I'm just gonna interrupt the four and tell you guys right here because it's imperfect alignment. But, um, as I've been going through this job search, like looking to leave where I am, everything I've gone to do has just pointed me back to my own business again. I am not even kidding. Like the first recruiting coach I went and saw, we ended up talking after and she's like, Hey, you really need to narrow it down.
Figure out what kind of industry you wanna be in, yada, yada. I'm like, okay. And I'm like, we start talking. I was like, yeah, well I had a podcast and I did my own thing for a while. And she's like, you did? And like, yeah. She's like, what's it called? It's a me first midlife badassery. And she's like, oh my God, you gotta be kidding me.
That's like, exactly. And I told her a little bit about what we do here and how it's about dreaming big and planning your life and plotting your future self and really creating that plan and taking action. And she is like. She showed me, she sent me a picture after. She's like, I think we were meant to meet.
She even had an M1 tattooed on her shoulder. Like me first on you guys, I'm not making this shit. You can't make this shit up. Like she had like a symbol of me first on her shoulder 'cause she had gone through some stuff and it's just like, I can't tell you how many times I meet women like us that are like.
That I need to do that, but so often we don't. Like, for example, I've got a planning event coming up June 28th, and if you're out there listening, you haven't been to one yet, and you're always like, oh, I think I should do that, but then you don't, oh, I don't have time for it. Whatever. Like that's the difference between the taking the action and doing something to create your future self and just saying, oh, I think I should do something like that.
Right. Take the action. You guys come join us. I promise you it's painless. And fun and we move forward. You know, I don't keep like redefining myself just because I don't know, because I wake up and talk to a microphone or a step forward. I'm like plot and plan, and think and dream. And sometimes it sucks and sometimes I don't get anywhere and sometimes I'm failing and getting fatter and not achieving anything, but I'm always getting back to that.
Okay. Where do I wanna go? What do I want it to look like? Because I, what I do know is I don't wanna be on that fucking hamster wheel forever. I don't want it to just be the same day over and over again. I want to live, I want dream. I want to explore. I want my kids to see that. I don't wanna be in fear of getting old and my body breaking down and all of this, especially not if I create it all right?
Like what can that look like if I want to create. The best, most amazing world I could live in. Right? And it's not working for someone else. I don't know why I like, was like, I don't know. So not just her, not just that career coach. Then I, I went to another career coach 'cause I thought, okay, maybe I need someone a little higher end, a little more like in, um, that does.
Mid to executive letter level coaching for like moving into your next phase and what are those steps? And a lot of this I think for me comes from fear of health insurance and having that steady paycheck and all, but knowing you guys like I can create fabulous things and create great experiences for women and things we all wanna partake in and create value around that for people.
Knowing I can do that, but then I. I have this sense of self-doubt that crowd's in and, you know, needing like medical insurance because of all this physical shit going on and these things that keep me in this bubble of fear instead of this bubble of expansion and love and what if and what's possible, you know, allowing that fear to settle in and then that, um, oh well you don't have all this big money saved up and you don't have all this, whatever.
Some of my best memories of life have been when I just took off in my little RV and said, screw it to everything. And you wanna talk about contentedness and just being so. Happy rate exactly where I was at. Now I'm not saying I wanna go off and do this and be all broke and not be able to help support my child through school and all of that.
Like all of that needs to be part of the frigging vision, right? Like this is something I've been learning since the beginning with my visioning, you know, like with manifest. When Renee, when I meet with Renee Spears and my spirit guides way back at the beginning, I ended up listening to one of those episodes the other day.
You guys, I think it's episode 38 if you wanna get a kick out of it. I aired my episode of one of my spirit guide, my second ever spirit guide meeting with Renee, where we are just talking through, um, I think it was an abundance joy filter and we're just talking through. Removing this filter, allowing the abundance to come in.
And I'm always like, you know, I manifest, I get myself trips, places, and all kinds of things, but not money. It's like I got all these blocks around money and that comes from growing up. I know you guys are probably familiar with this stuff too, right? Like money doesn't grow on trees, takes a lot of hard work.
You've gotta like. Bleed blood on the table, you know, work 80 hours a week. You know, I kind of come from that old, that old school work ethic place, right where I'm trying to come out the other son, because I'm m much more identify as a millennial. I'm like, I want to work to live no live to work. No work to live.
You know what I mean? I want to like, explore and live life, not spend my days like in a frigging office wanting to like bang my head against the wall. No way, man. I wanna like do something with purpose and put it into the world and feel so proud of what I'm doing and excited and. Full of this expansion.
And so I go to this other career coach and she says, she's talking to me and we're talking through like this blueprint and what it costs to engage her in coaching. And you know what a big believer in coaching I am, of course, after being in the coaching world, coaching myself, having coaches, I'm just like, okay, if I wanna accelerate this, what do I do?
You get a coach. That's it. That's the easiest way to get from A to Z. Right now I'm having health coaches, right? Which is what my naturopath is. I was gonna get an no BS coach, and then all this shit happened, and here I am. Oh, and I got stuff going on with my kidneys. I gotta fill you guys in on. So anyhow, that's squirrel number four, if you guys are counting or not.
But, so I hire this career coach. I don't hire her. I meet her for a consult meeting and she's talking about, you know, if I didn't wanna do all my own marketing, like she has this podcast and if anyone's looking for a job, it's called the Job Hunting Podcast. I really, I think she's really great and she has some really good interviews on there.
And so I meet with her and she says, you know, if I wasn't doing all this myself, I would go get. A coaching certification, and then I could just go get listed on someone else's website and they would do the marketing for me. And somewhere in there, I think that just kind of stuck in my brain and niggled in my brain because I've kind of been like, how could I do this with a little more stability?
And I never got a coaching certificate. You guys, I've coached throughout my career. I mean, I think throughout sports I was always like the captain of a team, which was kind of, uh. A coach in a way, right. I felt like I always was, and with my teams, I've been a manager forever, since I was like 23. And I've always learned new leadership techniques, new coaching techniques, how to coach and guide my employees.
It's just kind of always been part of who I was. So as I started to experience transformation, stepping into the coaching world and learning, I went to self-coaching scholars. I just like. Ate up all the coaching stuff and I started to apply it to myself and then apply it to others, right to, to help other people.
And so I kind of just hung up my shingle and it happened. I had a lot of great coaching experience, a lot of good testimonies, and I thought, you know, I love to learn. You guys know this, right? Like we are gross seeking beings. I really think we're always meant to be learning, but I also think I. Sometimes need a break from that.
But I'm coming up to my learning spurt again and last year it was yoga teacher training, and this year drum roll. This week I am looking into coaching certification to get an ICF coaching certification, not because I necessarily think I need a coaching certification to. Kick up my business again or to be a better coach or any of that, but, well, no, that's not true.
I think you always educate yourself to get better and better at whatever your craft is. And I thought, you know, I've just kind of been dancing on this precipice of do I become a life coach? Am my planner or creator, or am I, what am I? And I love coaching. I love so much about that. Like why not go learn more about it?
Why not take this time that I'm gifted here and just kind of suck it up where I'm at a little bit. Maybe I end up leaving soon. Maybe I hang in there a little bit longer, like we're gonna see what this looks like. So I'm interviewing. A few different coaching programs this week and I'm gonna see what they look like.
And I don't think I'm going to like coach school because I wanna be ICF certified so that if I wanna use this at an organization or be on a website, it's a little bit easier from what I understand with that accreditation to get, um. More access and avenues like that. And I kind of feel like through the Life Coach school, going to self coaching scholars, working with so many of the coaches myself, um, I kind of feel like I want to experience a little bit different side of that coaching.
You know, some of my experience inside scholars with some of the coaches. Wasn't as great as it has been outside with the women I know from our group that have gone. So I just kind of wanna see another flip side of that experience and maybe not spend as much money, you know, spend half the money and see what happens with that.
And just for education purposes. So I, that gives me a tingle of excitement and then I think about this vision. Okay, what does this vision look like? You know, now that I'm not visioning myself getting a paycheck for the fucking man again, what does this vision look like of me creating my own coaching empire or just my own private little small coaching business where I can travel the world and just be mobile and nimble and, um, pick up, pick up and go when I want you?
You hear this right? Freedom. Freedom, freedom. You know how I wanna be roaming moving. These are my core values. What's full of fun? What's full of love? Where am I? Serving, where am I really helping? You know, when I feel like I'm helping people at work is when I'm coaching them. You know, when I feel like I'm helping people in my business or here is when I'm sharing my voice and I hear from you guys about, oh my God, I really need to hear that this week.
Or, thank you for sharing what you're going through, but also in. Um, just being there and listening and being a part of your experience on your transformation is like frigging game changing, and that's what coaches get to do, right? They get to be there with you as you're going through. All of this, like everything you've seen me going through this year, being in the mud, being in the, all the crap you get through a lot faster when you got a coach by your side, that's for sure.
Because they like hold that mirror up for you, you know? So I wanna like learn to get a little better at that. And then, um oh. The fourth part of visualization, because I know that kind of like now I snuck in all like where my whole path and where it's going is the cognitive priming. So visualization sets your mind up to look and act on opportunities that align with your imagined outcome.
So this is where synchronicities come in. So this is the scientific part of the Woo we talk about right when you're in alignment. Synchronicities just start to come out of any. All, all over the place. Like I'll see windows and doors open, who knows? I'm gonna see some coaching job open up somewhere, or who knows what's gonna happen now.
Right. It's like you're programming this internal GPS you have and your brain starts steering. You in that direction, you know? So I think that's kind of exciting. So I'm excited to do this book with the Book Club Bitches and so join me if you want. If you wanna do it real time, just go to francesca amber.com and look for Book Club bitches.
It's super, I think it's like 12 bucks a month or something, and I just listen to the private member podcast. But you can get the book and do the whole thing. I am definitely stoked about this because I bring visualization to the me first guide event. When we do, before we do the planning and everything, we dip into visualization a little bit to get this vision going, and I've, I've been sharing this year about how my visions felt.
Felt foggy. And it's because I wasn't frigging excited about it. I was letting, again, like I try to train everyone when we do visualization. This is why you need a coach. 'cause someone looking from the outside in is so powerful. But allowing myself to be restricted by fear. You know? So you, the thing, the key thing when you're trying to visualize or when you first start dreaming for yourself again, is when you see those restrictions come in, oh, you can't do that right now because you're.
Skins like that. Oh, you can't do that right now because you don't have the money for it. Oh, you can't do that right now because of blah, blah, blah. You gotta stop it. It's like you're cock blocking your dreams, right? You gotta stop that right where you're at and like open yourself up to what your soul is screaming for you to do.
And I know when I get fat, my school soul's in there banging on the walls. I've said this a million times on this pod, right? Like. That 300 ball of misery, that was my soul in there screaming, just screaming, banging on the walls in there, and she's banging again. I'm just shoving her down with some really good Brit tv, you know, uh, detective series, food.
And some books I've been reading, but it's time. It's gonna be time to rise again. You know, I've got 720 days or something till Millie graduates, till this next big adventure I'm on and what kind of runway can I build right where I'm at, right here and right now? What kind of runway can you build? Come join me.
If you're listening to this real time, get your ass in that room June 28th, come dream, come envision and we plot and plan and create all these little steps to move you forward towards your vision. And it's game changing shit. It's how I get around to this every other time, even though it might feel like I'm not getting somewhere.
I look back a couple years later and I'm like, holy shit look. Like if I hadn't even thought of that, if I hadn't even. Stepped into this, even done this, something simple like this book club bitches, or listened to that podcast or started to put something different in my ear, this thing wouldn't have happened or this opportunity wouldn't have showed up.
So what are you gonna do a little differently this week? What can you start to visualize and which one of those like starts, sings home to you? You know? So I think we're gonna be learning like. The different, like how to pick the different types of visualization. So I'll share that with you, like kind of as we go through this book for, but for this week, just to think about, you know, like neurons that fire together, wire together.
So like rewiring your brain, really thinking about how important that is. Mirror neurons. So remember that's like Michael. Phelps practice and swimming and not really be in there. Right? Practice it in your brain over and over again. And then the emotional encoding, really getting like, if you can see that future itself, where you wanna be, whether it's at.
Body you want or that experience you wanna have. Like what is the emotion that goes with that? Like I remember when I got thin and I like was like, I, oh, you guys can all steal this thought. It was just like I was just in awe of myself, like, oh my God, I can't fucking believe this is me. I'd walk by AM mirror and go, oh, hey, hey.
What's up girl? And it was just like. Wonder, almost like tearing up in gratitude for myself for having accomplished this thing. And that's the emotion you want now before you even accomplish the thing. Like how do you generate that emotion and then the com cognitive priming, you know, even. Thinking about this vision you want is going to start to open those opportunities so you just watch and see what happens, right?
And so as I keep building this vision and I'm gonna get my plan laid out, like what things are gonna come into place to happen, to steer me in whatever direction this is, all of this happen is happening for some reason, and I'm stoked to see what the hell it is. I hope you guys are too about yourselves.
Me if you're loving the ride. Listen, I can't thank you guys enough for listening, for being here with me, and until next week, witches and bitches slay.
