S4 Ep 235: EFT Tapping for Weight Loss: The 4 Questions Revealing What's Keeping You Stuck
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
If you've ever felt like you know exactly what to do but still can't seem to follow through, this episode is for you.
After losing 120 pounds, navigating a regain, and spending years exploring everything from mindset work to coaching to EFT Tapping, I've come to believe that most of us aren't stuck because we need more willpower.
We're stuck because something inside us doesn't feel safe.
In this episode, I'm sharing four powerful questions that can help uncover the hidden fears, beliefs, and emotional patterns that may be keeping you stuck—not just in weight loss, but in business, relationships, money, and life.
We'll also talk about EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique), why it's become one of my favorite tools for nervous system regulation, and I'll walk you through a simple tapping exercise you can use yourself.
The Four Questions
✨ What Happens If It Changes?
✨ How Will Other People Feel About It?
✨ What Pain Might I Experience If I Change This?
✨ What Will I Lose If I Make This Change?
The answers may reveal more than you expect.
Because they usually aren't about food.
They're about safety.

The diet industry doesn't want you to know about this, you guys. Like the diet industry wants us to think we need more willpower, something's wrong with us, we need less hunger cues. And what if
You're like me, and it's more about these deep beliefs that are right within us. I'm Addy Beale here on Midlife Badassery, and today we are going to get into the emotional freedom technique. And this is also known as EFT or tapping. And if you're watching on YouTube, you can see me tapping my body. If you're following along on audio, I am hitting these meridian points, these acute pressure points in our body.
today I just want to share to you from the heart about how tapping was so transformational on my journey in with my coaching clients and coming from that space of this 300 pound ball of misery that I was in when I set off on my weight loss quest and lost 120 pounds. And I set out to get weight loss surgery because I didn't know what to do. And I was looking for help.
And
this is back when like the coaching industry isn't quite what it is today. I was asking doctors, I was seeking, seeking, seeking, because I was just like, I know I know my soul was banging on the wall. And this will come into I'm gonna ask you to answer these four questions today. And these four questions are going to change.
how you look at what you are believing, what is holding you back on your quest, whether that's weight loss, business, money, relationships, it's all the same shit, you guys, right? Like it doesn't end. So I've been doing this tapping work in my community, in the midlife badassery community, all year, really, and everybody just loves it because I think it's something you can feel pretty quickly. Like when you have an emotional charge about
Something and even when you don't, this just feels good. It feels good to release this energy in your body because takes down your cortisol levels, neutralizes your amygdala, and this creates a place that we can build new neural pathways, we can introduce new thoughts. If you're in this constant
fight or flight, which our brains needed back in the day when there were a bunch of friggin' tigers outside your cave, right? But like your boss calling you into the office isn't a tiger.
You know, but your body acts like it. You know, your husband and you having an argument isn't a tiger, but your body is reacting like that. And especially midlife women, as our hormones change and our adrenals are relied on so much more this happened to me last year, you guys. I was like
wiped out and I remember going to see my naturopath and she was like addie she was like where do you feel safe and I realized I wasn't I didn't feel safe anywhere you know and I remember I'd be driving and I'd be tapping in my car I'd be tapping to just
Get back to a sense of normal. this skill is going to be a game changer for you on your quest. And I'm going to show you how today, but I also want to invite you to dive a little bit deeper if you really want to understand what is going on underneath. So, to do that, you're gonna need to answer these four questions. Okay. And I'm gonna share with you my vulnerable answers because this is the deep shit. And I see this in my clients where I
No, they're holding back in a certain area, like they're eating to avoid becoming that person they might be if they lost the weight, because it would remove them from the circumstance they're tolerating.
This can be the deeper stuff for you to look at, right? but tapping is going to help you neutralize the emotion around it so that you can start to make real change because real life-lasting change comes from within. It comes from rewiring these beliefs. It doesn't come from us getting the diet, getting the surgery, getting thinner,
So first question you're gonna ask yourself is what happens if it changes, right? Like what happens to that thing? Like let's say you narrow it down even. Let's say you're night eating. You are
You know, every night when when I went through this recent regain and I was really uncomfortable in my body, it was inflamed. I was not having fun at work. I was sitting in a car all day. And now I know my soul was like, what are you doing again? Get the freak, you gotta live your light, right? Like, but I didn't know my soul was banging on the wall again. It's hard to see it when you're in it. You know what I mean? Especially when you're not feeling well. And emotional freedom.
Technique, you guys. I want this to be an awareness for you because you can dive really deep in this, I'm a midlife self-help junkie badass here sharing my journey, right? I don't only do tapping, but I am for sure.
Teaching what I know about it and how it's changed my life because all of these things I picked up along the way to lose 120 pounds and leave corporate America, create this life in my dreams, and again not stop while I regained, but get back up realizing my body wasn't feeling safe. And I had the tools to go to to make myself feel safe and to release my anger and my frustration and neutralize my body so I could say, okay, what's really going on here?
What am I not hearing? What am I not listening? So for me, this question, what happens if it changes so often for me was tied to feeling great, knowing what to do with this energy that wasn't
Neutralized. And this can go back to my too much video a few podcasts ago, you guys. I'll link the video here and in the show notes for you because when I try to smoosh my too-muchness, when I try to smoosh me, Addy, who I am, this energy, when I try to smoosh that, which I would do with food.
With reading, with Netflix, with booze, with all of it at once, right? When I would try to smoosh her. that's what happens if I stop putting my
food in my face, if I stop just fitting in their little corporate box, if I stop just doing the day-to-day fucking grind, being on the hamster wheel, if I stop that.
What happens? What what am I afraid of? I become too much. I get told to go back in the fucking box. I get reprimanded. I get like you gotta dial your personality back. this is my thing, Your thing is probably gonna be something different, which is why
I'm doing a workshop this weekend. If you guys are catching this real time to help you uncover what your thing is.
How will other people feel about it? That's some deep shit, you guys. How is your husband gonna feel if you get thin? How is your how are your girlfriends? How is your circle gonna feel if you get that goal?
How do you think they're gonna feel about it? Because again, you know, you can't
know what other people are gonna feel, but it's the thought about what you think they're gonna feel about it that can often stop us, right? And you might be thinking, Addie, what the hell does this have to do with tapping? And I'm here to tell you everything. Because for you, you can tap. You can go out, find some Bill Yates, tap through it, but what I want you to find and understand are these things that are blocking and stopping you because this is where your power comes in.
to help rewrite your story and collapse the timeline. We all want it faster.
If you want it truly want it faster, let's say, for example, you're taking a GLP one right now, and you know long term you don't want to be on it, but you know, like the hunger cravings are gonna come back when you get off it or what I haven't experimented with this, so I don't know. But hey, if this is getting you where you're going, you do it, sister, you do it. But this is the work that when you come out the other side, if you decide you can't be on this or you don't want to be on this, like that you are learning.
about what it is really about inside of you.
Okay, so those first two questions you got you guys, right? What will happen if it changes and how will other people feel about it? And then
what pain might you experience if you change this? Now this is also some understanding the neuroscience behind this,
Because your body is just trying to keep you safe. So its idea of pain is you not eating that pizza at 10 p.m. because you just couldn't get to that's pain, right? That's like the lion coming to eat you. And the truth is that.
It's not really painful. Like this is the thing. Like I found fasting after I had already lost like a hundred pounds because my whole quest was food is fuel. I just wanted to be the person that food was neutralized for.
I have allowed myself to feel comfort in food. So when I would come home from work for the past two years when I was regaining and feeling not safe in my body, and just like so if I stopped eating these things that were just comforting me because I wasn't thinking about things or I wasn't feeling things, it was shutting me down, what would I need to experience?
Now I'm thinking about this, you guys. I'm like, what would I have had to experience? Because I think what I did was I went and changed my circumstances versus all of this. And I've been sharing it live with you guys on this podcast this whole time and on Facebook. So it'd be funny to go back and find those moments because I know I was sharing when I was so frustrated when I was in it.
It would have been listening to myself about what was really going on. So instead of listening to all of these thoughts and these feelings I had, instead of processing them, I would have had to process emotion. And this is why tapping, you guys, it's such an easy way to process emotion. And so I was doing it, but not.
Like I knew how to do it and I knew I wasn't because it was going to get uncomfortable and I was going to have to step outside of what I was doing and do what I'm here doing with you guys because my soul was called for so much more and she wasn't having it. And it was like two years of shoving her down again and she was like, nope, you know, not doing it. a really interesting question to ask yourself, right?
digging up these deeper things I want to rewire because I know to get to the next level, to get to the next goal, whether it's to lose the next 40 pounds, whether it's to earn 500 grand, like whatever that level.
Looks like for you is going to feel uncomfortable in your body, right? So we want to neutralize that discomfort, and then we come out the other side and we start to like build a normality around it. And is that a word, you guys? Normality? I just made up, I make up words. I squirrel, I make up words. You love it or you leave it. What can I say?
Okay, your last question today, What will I lose if I make this change? So what will I lose, right? What I for me, like when when I was working and in the car and regaining and just feeling uncomfortable and my face is like everything was uncomfortable, my whole body was inflamed. What I would lose, not shoving my emotions down.
Was just that easy money. I mean, I made good money, right? Like that easy corporate America paycheck and that sense of stability that that brought. And
Having to say, like, how do I feel safe in my body being an entrepreneur, which is a more high-risk venture than showing up and doing a job I'm really good at and get paid a lot of money for? Like, how do I take that leap, right? So I'm giving up that safety and stability, but also it was making me miserable in the same breath because I didn't feel safe in it. What the hell? I'm learning so much on this podcast with you guys today. Shit.
Okay, well, now that we're analyzing me, so I want to know for you guys if you can drop in the comments, send me a message, what's gonna happen if you change? How are other people gonna feel about it? What pain might you experience if you make the change? What will you lose if you make the change, right?
Okay, so now that you guys might have an idea of something that's stopping you, right? I want to take this and show you how I would do this through my body. And I'm gonna say out loud where I'm tapping. So if you're listening on the audio podcast, you can follow along too. I want to show you as an example.
of how I might rewire that fear in me of le let's say leaving the job, which ultimately doesn't seem like the root cause I would tap for being overweight, right? But when I got down into the questions, it's really what it was for me this time. And this is the thing, you guys, it changes all the time.
Like our whys change. I was listening to an older podcast of mine on this actually. And back then I my why was food is fuel.
And I had already experienced that at this point I was talking about my why had totally shifted. My why was to light my soul up and put my energy in the world because I had already been through that journey on this quest of self-discovery, right? On this looking inside of myself for solutions. Well, I look outside, because that's what a self help junkie does, right? Like I'm like, what are the new, what are the tools? And this is part of what I'm setting up in my community.
this summer are these tools that can help get what are the fundamentals that these tools you can just pull out of your pocket when you need them like tapping on the road because you know your body's in like just anxiety and fear and whatever,
I'm tapping on the side of the hand, and this is my setup statement. So I'm gonna say something about how I'm feeling negatively, and then I'm gonna let it be, and then I add on a little statement of acceptance.
Even though I'm so stressed out about my job and I just feel horrible and I know I'm eating my emotions away, I know I will come out the other side. Even though I feel so stressed out about my job and I know I'm eating my emotions away, I know I will come out the other side.
I will say the location as we go through the tapping sequence, and again, putting myself back in that space of just not feeling safe and not enjoying my life in the circumstances I was in, right? So
It just feels so hard to go to work inside of my eyebrow. It feels so hard to go to work outside of the eye, and it just feels so uncomfortable. My body is angry under the eye, and I just can't find my way out of this under the nose, and I'm so angry under my lip, and I'm so frustrated.
Collarbone and I just can't.
And I just don't want to go. I just hate it.
Under your arm? I can't even believe I'm tolerating it. Top of the head. I'm so frustrated.
Corner of the eyebrow. It's just too much. Side out of the eye. And I can't stand it under my eye. I just don't want to go anymore under my nose, but I feel like I have to under my lip. And that frustrates me even more. Collarbone. And I feel trapped.
underarm and it feels like there's nothing I can do about it. Top of the head. But I know that's not true.
And now that I've kind of like talked through my anger a little bit and I'm feeling a little more neutralized, I would just talk through all those shit thoughts, you guys. Like I just talk through them and I tap them out,
you're gonna get this like you feel that anger, whatever that is a little more neutralized, and you're gonna naturally see yourself starting to say, but I'm here and I know what the real deal is, right? Top of my eyebrow, corner of eye. I know I want something more for myself under my eye, and yet I'm choosing to show up for this right now under my nose, and that's okay.
under my lip. I can decide when I'm ready to make a change. Collarbone. And that change could be easy, under arm, or it could be hard. Top of the head. And I know when I do make this decision, inside of the eyebrow, that it will start to shift everything.
Outside of the eye, meanwhile
under the eye, I can start to use my tools under the nose, like tapping, under my lip, like thought rewiring, my collarbone.
Like meditation.
under the arm, like breathing.
Top of the head to just feel better in my body now.
I'm gonna make it easy, letting it go. I'm not gonna keep going, but when I'm tapping out my own personal beliefs, this is what I do. And I think there's a skill you start to start to develop to be able to allow yourself to see negative thoughts you're having because we're told to shove them down, not look at them, and they're not serving us in there, you guys. We have 60,000 thoughts running on autopilot in there.
And these are the things that are stopping you. They're just trying to keep you safe. They're just trying to do in their job. but like feeling
like you can talk out loud to yourself. And this is why I find my ultra ego GPT really powerful because I think women can talk to it like they don't even talk to a coach.
You know, it's putting me out of business, quite frankly. My alter ego GPTs are so friggin' good. I'm like, no one even needs a coach anymore. You get an alter ego GPT. And it's like this stuff's really good, you know? And I am gonna come up with one to find our limiting beliefs,
You guys can do it from what you have here today. Just those four questions and the tapping points and the knowing the meridian points, right? You can go through it. You can also, this is, I love to use this daily. And no, I don't get any kickbacks, but I should, huh? This is Jessica Ortner's daily guidance tapping cards, and this is how I've added it to my daily routine
Because in my planner in the me first guide, which is the next step to all this madness, right? I go through this process every morning, and I have this little part that reminds me to do a self-reflection. And when I do that, I tap every single morning and I use these as guidance, but I also have lists of limiting beliefs that I had hired a coach on to help me get out this time because I knew I wasn't seeing things. And she I knew she would like make
me dig in there right and so this is what I want to be for you. I'm gonna be your genny this weekend because we're gonna uncover this shit and help you wire it out the other side. But if you can't do that follow along here subscribe
Listen for more because we're gonna have more tools coming at you. And all week in the badassery community, for you guys that are in there, and if you want to get it's free, you guys come in, you get a little taste of the magic of the badassery, right? If you're a midlife woman looking to make change, you're not sure what you want. Maybe you've been on a weight loss journey, maybe you already slayed that shit, maybe you don't care about it, but maybe you know you're meant for something more and you want to unlock it and you're on this.
What do I do, right? Like, what is stopping you?
From uncovering the greatness and we do a lot of big dream and stuff, right? But this deck is fun because it also has the tapping points on the inside. And then this is my muse card I got. That's a different deck. That's a different thing. But it comes with a little guidebook, which I always love with my tapping cards. But on the back, it gives you a little thing to tap yourself, and then of course it's got a beautiful card for you. So it tells you side of hand, eyebrow, side of eye, and you can go through it.
Right, and she's got the prompts for wherever you're at. But I think understanding how to tap for yourself and what you're going through is a really powerful tool to have. Like you guys, I'm telling you, if I didn't have these tools, I would still be gaining weight, being shoved into my little corporate box still. I would be inflamed, I would be frustrated. I mean, I think, but I
Also, I'm rewriting that story because I needed that time to really feel safe in investigating my health because I spent a lot of money uncovering things with a natural path regarding mold toxicity and my eczema and eczema. I'm not owning that, I am not my eczema, eczema, right? Like just dealing with that and different health issues we have, right? So I'm really trying to rewire that story. Ginny, help me see that actually. She's like, you gotta stop talking about that. Like your soul is being
On the wall, but I'm like, but it was it was banging on the fucking wall. Let me out. She's like, it's not serving you. I'm like, damn, right? But this is what we need coaches for. We need other people to see. And other badasses on the ride with us, right? Like I self-coach myself every single day, every day without fail. And yet we I still need another perspective. And I often don't want to hear it because that's who I am, but I often need to hear it.
You know? So take this today, self-reflect you guys. I hope you can come and join us.
All the game changers I uncovered on my path of, you know, losing a massive amount of weight and leaving corporate America twice now, buy an RV, travel in the country, you know, all of these things that help me do these things that were in my eyes exceptional. You know, I didn't ever think I could do them. I didn't, I just kept stepping forward and trying new things and discovering them. So all of my game changers, I really want to make sure I lay the foundation
in the podcast and on YouTube too. So if you're not following me on YouTube yet please do do all this stuff. Subscribe hit the bell I go live every week with my weigh-in almost to my 30 pound mark you guys woohoo the crowd
Wow, she's a skinny bitch. She's a skin. Okay, sorry. That was a little. And if you're on audio, you're like, what? I'm like full on dancing. I've given up trying to podcast so much hair. I am what not to do on YouTube right now. Or a podcast.
